Customer Reviews:
A great tour of the covered waterways along with history.......2007-07-27
A previous review noted they had an outdated version. This is the new 2006 version that I just received. Great read and a must book to keep on board if you are cruising any of these waterways.
Contains Restaurants, Marinas, Gas, Food Supplies Side trips and Safe bays to Anchor along the way etc.
Pictures and history of each town and port you will be approaching. Shipped free and makes a great gift for any boater who be might traveling to the covered regions. Nice coffee table book if you live in the regions too!
A fairly comprehensive guide.......2007-05-13
I bought this mostly for Lake Champlain, but it seems to be a fairly comprehensive guide to boaters along the Hudson River, through Lake Champlain and on up to the St. Lawrence River. It offers information on the local marina's and sightseeing. I wish the maps had been a little more comprehensive, but in general I think I will find alot of use for the book.
Excellent Guide.......2005-02-28
We purchased this book in anticipation of a Lake Champlain cruise this summer (2005). Excellent description of anchorages, which is exactly what we were looking for. Many photos, too bad they are all B&W.
The only thing I would like to see is a new edition, the current one is 4 years old, and as such, I would expect some of the marina information to be out of date.

Book Description
This book is the first comprehensive cruising guide for the enormously popular "circle trip" from Manhattan to Lake Ontario and back through Lake Champlain, providing boaters with mile-by-mile descriptions and detailed information on more than 300 anchorages and marinas located along the way. The text also contains important information on shoaling, commercial traffic, weather, locks and bridges, and more. Comprehensive ratings for beauty, interest, and available facilities help boaters decide itineraries, and custom chartlets guide boaters into busy mariners and secluded anchorages alike. Throughout, the Rumseys act as personal tour guides, detailing the region's rich history of pointing out what there is to see and do.

Might be good for some people.......1999-07-08
Recently I brought a 36 foot boat from Whitby, Ontario through the Canal System, down the Hudson, through Hell Gate to Long Island Sound. I thought this book would be my bible, but found almost no useful information. The book is written entirely from the perspective of going up river, and is very hard to follow if you're going down. Much of the information is already out of date - several times when we tried to follow its advise, the marina or docking area it decribed was non-existent. Other facilities are ignored. For example, Whitby, which has two large marinas was not mentioned. The discussion of going the through locks was rather limited, though probably helpful to the small boat owner. There were very few pictures - certainly not enough to show what the canals are like. Also, the book stopped (actually started) at the Battery without mention of Hell Gate, which must be of interest to a significant number of readers. I suppose this book would be helpful to a power boater looking for the next restaurant, but it was a major disappointment to me.
Customer Reviews:
If you like antiques.......2006-08-14
This book would have been great 15 years ago. Things have changed around the waterways such as described in this book. Very dispointing, especially the critics. I've checked some of the phone numbers and most have been changed. As a matter of fact, the area code for lower Quebec is not 514 but 450 and this since 1990...
So do what you like but remember, if your nostalgic, this book is for you. If you like current data, look elsewhere..sorry.
Very helpful on my trip up Champlain Canal and Lake.......2005-09-12
Ths book was very helpful on a several-day trip I made up the Champlain Canal and Lake Champlain. It directed me to a fabulous anchorage I would otherwise likely not have learned about. I'd recommend buying it well in advance of a trip (at least weeks) in order to read and digest the information. This book must be used in conjunction with official navigation charts, and I'd recommend the official New York State Cruising Guide to the Canal System.
Ny Waterways Guide.......2005-08-30
A thorough compilliation of facts and data for mariners interested in cruising NY and Vermont waterways from the Hudson river up through Lake Champlain and its environs.
Well done and very informative. One should have this book with them for planning and cruising.
Noah charts must be obtained seperately.
An excellent and Guide for the Northeast Boater.......2000-03-15
Chris Brown truely has a grasp on what a boater in the Northeast is looking for. I found that the information about the ports of call were particularly helpful for those not familiar with these areas. Highly recommended for those traveling in the Northeast.
Fun & Information-Filled.......1999-06-09
I found this book a must have for my cruise this spring. It's jam-packed with information, from the depth of water to a complete list of marinas and their amenities. I am surprised that a book that is so packed with critical information could also be so easy to understand and fun. The many photos, maps and stories make this book a pleasure to read. I'm glad I purchased this book a month before my trip. I kept it on my night stand, and by reading a little bit each night, it made for a better vacation. The references throughout the book, like tips for clearing customs, what not to miss, and tourist information listings, alone were worth the price of the book to me. As a novice boater. I also appreciated the chapter on marina etiquette.

Book Description
Crowned the "King of the Toys," the Miniature Pinscher is an elegant, confident and spirited Toy breed, whose reign of popularity extends beyond national boundaries. Miniature in size only, the "Min Pin," as he is affectionately called, possesses a Goliath's heart, with the courage to match, and a giant's personality, brimming with confidence and self-importance. This book provides the much-needed factual information about the Miniature Pinscher and its ancestry, character and standard, as well as proper selection, feeding, basic obedience and house-training and preventative health care. The new owner will welcome advice about puppy-proofing the home, general safety and preventing potential puppy problems, such as chewing and separation anxiety.
In addition to an authoritative, lively text, this book presents over 135 photographs in full color, which prove to be as informative as they are attractive. Helpful hints and important information are highlighted to provide easy access to everything the reader needs to know about life with a Min Pin from puppyhood to the senior years.
Customer Reviews:
Not worth buying.......2002-02-09
This book really didn't tell me anything I didn't know about a min-pin. I still have very important questions that need to be answered.. like if the dog gets along with other small animals. Very important and not stressed in the book. It didn't talk about cropping the dogs ears. I would definatly sugest looking into buying another book
Not enough emphasis on Min Pin nature.......2001-02-01
This is what is known as a 'cut and paste' dog book. Most of the book could apply to any small dog. That isn't all bad. What cost points with me was not enough emphasis on the personality of this breed. The Min Pin is high maintenance, and should never be purchased on a whim. This book is a fine small overview, with nice pictures and plenty of Nylabone ads.If you are serious about the breed, you need much more than this.
Customer Reviews:
Indispensible Resource.......2002-05-07
This is an indispensible resource for beginning through advanced FDC collectors. There are values listed for all Scott numbers for FDC or EKU (earliest known use) covers. For modern issues, valuations are provided for singles, blocks, plate blocks, and FDC ceremony programs. Complete coverage is also provided for back-of-the-book issues, postal stationery, plate number coils, presidential inauguration and related covers, and World War II patriotic covers. A cachet calculator helps in determining values for individual cachetmakers. Many first cachets are illustrated. My only suggestion for future editions would be to include more illustrations of cachets and fewer illustrations of stamps, which are readily available through other sources.

Customer Reviews:
Ortho's All About Annuals Review.......2005-01-22
I've seen Ortho's All About series for a few years now, and decided to purchase one of the guides to see how good they are. I bought All About Annuals by Ann Lovejoy and Leona Holdsworth Openshaw. This book is a slim 96 pages from title page to index, but it is surprisingly full of information. Most of the book is comprised of charts and the annual selection guide.
New gardeners would find this book to be very useful, especially if they don't know their annuals. The selection guide has a clear photo, Latin name, pronunciation, Common name, growing habit, and care information for each annual. More experienced gardeners would probably still be able to get some use from the more exotic annuals in the guide, but would probably be more excited by the annual seed starting chart. Lists of annuals for special spots, annual bloom time, and annual size would be useful for any gardener who wants a quick, easy guide.
Even though this book is small and doesn't include quite as many annuals as I'd hoped it would, it is clear, concise, and easy to use.

Book Description
In 1879 the young German scholar Hermann Diels published his celebrated Doxographi Graeci, (in which the major doxographical works of antiquity are collected and analysed). Diels' results have been foundational for the study of ancient philosophy ever since. In their ground-breaking study the authors focus on the doxographer Aetius, whose work Diels reconstructed from various later sources. First they examine the antecedents of Diels' Aetian hypothesis. Then Diels' theory and especially the philological techniques used in its formulation are subjected to detailed analysis. The remainder of the volume offers a fresh examination of the sources for our knowledge for Aetius. Diels' theory is revised and improved at significant points. Subsequent volumes will examine the contents and methods of the doxographer and his antecedents in earlier Greek philosophy. No scholar concerned with the history of ancient philosophy can afford to ignore this study.

Book Description
"Wonderful!” (Grace Paley).
“Heartwarming and smart and wonderfully written” (
Detroit Free Press).
“Provides edifying advice, intimately given, like the best-selling
Tuesdays with Morrie” (the
Dallas Morning News).
“Altogether original” (Dr. Laura Schlessinger).
“This story will speak to the humanity of the reader” (
Jewish Book World).
The Beggar King and the Secret of Happiness is that rare, magical book—a book that tells a good story but also shows us how the tales we learned when we were children shed light on our adult lives. Joel ben Izzy had the unusual opportunity to relive those lessons when he lost his voice and reconnected with his old teacher, Lenny, a retired storyteller. Through his meetings with Lenny, Joel rediscovers the wisdom of ancient tales and takes us on a journey into a world of beggars and kings, monks and tigers, lost horses and buried treasures—and in the end tells us the secret of happiness.
Customer Reviews:
Discerning book lover.......2007-01-05
I had picked up this book at a book fair a while back and it sat on my book self for months. One afternoon I started reading it and I was completely capitivated by the beauty, insight and inspiration contained in this bright treasure. The book speaks to your soul. It is also funny, wise and instructive. Ben Izzy gives us an opportunity to learn from his strength and challenges. When life hands you lemons you have options on what to do with them. Ben Izzy explores and discovers the ability to make lots of lemonade. This book was so moving that I wanted several special people in my life to have it and be able to read it again and again. Everyone that recieved a copy was equally knocked out. All I can say is do not pass this one up. This book will warm your soul and inspire you.
A Pleasant Read.......2006-09-08
This book intersperses short stories from around the world with the author's struggles coping with partial muteness. Rather than being preachy or sentimental, the author entertains us by providing international tales that foretell lessons he learns in his own life. The author's advice re: happiness reminds me of Theodore Roethke's beautiful lines:
"I feel my fate in what I cannot fear.
I learn by going where I have to go."
I did not provide this book with five stars, only because I felt the author's relationship with his friend Lenny was co-dependent and deserved less attention. Of course, that relationship leads the author to a large part of his self-actualization, but I would have liked to hear more about his wife--she shines in every small aside about her. If you want to be entertained and read a story about an author coping with an illness (that affects his ability to speak) in his own unique, admirable way, this is the book for you.
A Inspiring True Story!.......2006-08-25
This book found me the day I was attending the wake of a good friend. I was feeling miserable of course and decided to start this book minutes before I got out of the car at the funeral home to take my mind of off my grief. I read the prologue and was hooked to this story. It has changed my outlook on life and on the death of my friend. It is great how the author takes each folktale and applies it to his life. This book is full of many life lessons and I am truly inspired to look through the curses in my life to find the blessings like Joel ben Izzy did. I have just bought this book and plan to read it to my High School World History classes this fall. I think this is a must read book for everyone. Give yourself a gift and read this book!
A TRUE STORYTELLER..........2006-03-19
Each person has their own story to share. Joel ben Izzy shares his story in this small book with great power. The author weaves wisdom stories from a multitude of cultures and applies them to his life story. The meaning and measure of ben Izzy's words challenges the reader to think of their story and emphasizes the importance of sharing it with someone.
Ben Izzy, recounts his life focusing on a central event, him losing his voice due to cancer. The tale describes the family heartache and personal struggles he must overcome to find the true story within himself. Read and reread this wonderful tale of love, loss, and enlightenment.
If you are looking for the meaning of YOUR life..........2005-09-28
...this is a good place to start. Joel draws you in with his engaging storytelling, insight, humble nature. I found myself trying to slow down and read just a little every night because I didn't want it to end so soon. But I could just have easily read the book in one sitting. Don't miss this one.

Book Description
I'd Do It Again!
Author Harriet Wright's priceless adventures began in her mid-twenties when Jimmy Durante plucked her from the waters of the Aquacade at the 1939-40 World's Fair to join the first chorus line of the famed Copacabana Supper Club.
Harriet soon became part of the nightclub crowdmentioned regularly in the most famous of the New York gossip columns. She traveled with the rich and famous, raised a son who gained his own notoriety, and had more adventures than Forrest Gump. I'd Do It Again! recounts her journeys to a life in Cairo, a romance in Tunisia, a weekend in jail, a six-week Caribbean escapade with Jose Ferre, and much more!
Her son Clovis, a rebellious teenager, became the youngest designer to ever win the prestigious Coty Critics Award, the fashion industry equivalent of an Oscar. His success provided Harriet with a backstage pass to the world of fashion. But Harriet also had her share of heartache, including the suspicious death of a husband.
I'd Do It Again! is the riveting and entertaining life story of a resilient woman who refuses to let life pass her by. Instead, she lives itto its fullest extent!

What a life!!!!.......2005-12-04
This was such a fun book, spanning the life of Harriet Wright, the last living member of the original Copacabana chorusline. I thought the book would just be about the club years, but it is so much more. She dated the presidents son (FDR) and ran with the rich and famous. Her time in Hollywood, the hichhike across country her time in Cairo were all fascinating. The story of her son was equally amazing: he grew up to become famous. WOW, what a life this woman lived, and she had so many ups and downs.
