This book is really cool, although those who don't like pictures of slightly (but not much) decayed bodies will not like some of the pictures. I personally think they are cool and amazing. I really enjoyed the way the author put what they thought happened into a story.

The Photos Alone Are Worth the Stars.......2003-02-10

After seeing a clip on the Franklin Expedition in a documentary on mummies, I rushed to the library to see if there was a book on the subject. The only one available was this book in the juvenile section. At first I was disappointed, but, noticing a photo of the preserved body of one of the sailors, I checked it out. For a kids' book, this one is pretty cool. The first part of the book is a fictionalized (and very sanitized) story of chief stoker John Torrington and his friend and stoker Luke Smith on the HMS Terror. William Braine and Thomas Hartnell (John's brother) also make appearances. This story leaves the reader with questions that the author will answer in the second section describing the disinterring of Torrington, John Hartnell, and Braine and the information their well-preserved remains revealed. The photos are amazing and make this book fascinating for all ages. The first illustration of Torrington in the fictionalized story has him wearing the same articles found on his corpse (an intriguing, if a bit creepy, touch). The reading level and, at times, disturbing content is probably appropriate for kids 5th grade and up.

My mother gave this book to me when I was ten, which was a very long time ago. Those images of the mummies, so well-preserved that they don't look like mummies but like still-living human beings in some eternal pain we can't imagine -- they gave me nightmares then and they can still chill me to the stomach.

Buried in Ice is about two boats who went to the Arctic to discover new parts. They all died! Nobody worried though,because they had a three year supply of food.

What I like about the book is it's story,and adventure at the same time. Mystery because they want to find out what happenned to the crew. Adventure to survive in the cold.

I think we should apritiate explorers. For risking thier lives to find new things. These people tried to explor the Arctic. To find new places that were not put on the map yet,but they are now.

Fun to Wear Fabric Flowers by Elizabeth Searle.......2007-09-15

I own about every how to textile book in print; so I really do know a good craft book when I see one. This is a good one. The directions are clear and easy to follow, the examples are good, and there are plenty of variations offered for each method. I would certainly highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to make fabric flowers to use on garments, journal covers, collages, gift boxes, and a myriad of other possibilities. I checked it out of the library before buying it and ordered it as soon as I had read it, as it's one I know I'll use over time.

A Flower for Every Occasion.......2007-05-19

This is a book filled with really simple fabric flowers. When it arrived my craft group each chose a design and we made them at the next meeting. The directions are easy to follow and the range of designs from small pieces of fabric is very appealing. A different flower to dress up every garment is very achievable.

I just recently purchased this book, so I have not had a chance to use it yet, tho I have looked thro it. There are lots of patterns and ways in which to use them, and most of them seem simple and straight forward enough. I may write another review once I have used the book.

I was very impressed with this book, attractively presented with easy to read instructions for the projects. Not all of the projects appealed to me personally but there were more than enough to justify the purchase of the book. I am hoping to include some of the flowers as embellishments to my shibori dyed georgette jackets.

This is exactly the type of book I've been looking for !!! Thank you Elizabeth Searle for writing it and designing all of these ***fantastic*** flowers. The directions look to be very informative and easy to follow. What an awesome assortment to choose from. I AM SO EXCITED !! I just received it today and can hardly wait to begin making some myself. If you love gardening and flowers and if you enjoy the beautiful prose of Shakespeare, then you'll love this little book! The colorful botanical illustrations are exquisite. Three seperate indexes help you weave plants names with their romantic meanings and find phrases and quotations referring to these plants throughout Shakepeare's plays and sonnets. It made the perfect gift to my 22 year old daughter after a poignant performance of Ophelia in Hamlet. She loved it.

This book has been a great reference for me of all the flowers referred to in Shakespeare's writings. My daughter Rosemary, is playing the lead in "Much Ado About Nothing," her school play this Spring. I wanted to have the flowers available to give the students and teachers involved and now I have the Best ideas. Thank you so much for advertising this book of colors and scents for the imagination!

Good resource for the advanced student. This is full of excellent essays about Lear. However, the basic student might find them over-the-top and hard to read. Students interested in Shakespeare for major purposes will find that this is a great reference to keep on hand.
