Book Description
The second edition of Trees and Shrubs of Colorado is more comprehensive than the first, published in 1988. The number of woody plants described has been doubled to 295 species, with the keys and descriptions rewritten and scientific names updated. The book is expanded to include 120 new illustrations and a new section of 185 color photographs that bring forth the beauty of Colorado's unique woody flora.
Customer Reviews:
Not quite what I expected..........2007-05-30
I bought the revised & expanded edition of this book (2006 version). I had a hard time trying to identify plants in the field. The illustrations are nice, but I think a photo would of helped me more. You have to flip through the book a lot to come to a conclusion on the species. Most of the focus is on the small parts of the plant, and not what the whole plant looks like.
This book must be a college text book. Maybe I was confused when purchasing it, because I thought it would be more like a field guide. Would of liked it to be an easier to follow book. I'm waiting for Stan Tekiela's book on trees/plants of Colorado to come out. His 'Birds of Colorado' guide is really good.
Fabulous field guide.......2006-10-05
These descriptions seem to be describing the the first edition of "Trees and Shrubs of Colorado" (1988) which indeed was truly effective on the eastern slope and within 150 mile radius of Colorado Springs. HOWEVER, the new edition (published in 2006) is more than double the size (in species, text, and illustrations!) of the first edition and includes the majority of trees and shrubs in the state of Colorado. Please give the new version a try before assuming the "title is misleading."
I give this book a 5-star!
worthless.......2004-03-01
This worthless book follows some arcane numbering system that could only be valuable to a computer programer. The descriptions are aimless and do not seem to match anything in nature
Misleading title.......2003-06-13
In the introduction, the author states that "the most effective range for this book is approximately a 150-mile radius of Pikes Peak." and adds "As you move to the four corners of the state and to the western slope, the book becomes less effective." I wish I had known this before I purchased the book, because it lacks the information I needed to help identify plants on the western slope of Colorado. However, if you live in the defined area, I'm sure you will find it useful. The drawings are beautifully done, the descriptions are adequate, and the appendices are well-done.

Book Description
Women's relationships with food are passionate and obsessive, embracing and comforting, complex and frustrating. This savory sampling of stories — by some of the best writers in and out of the food and travel fields — journeys to the heart of these age-old relationships, taking readers from the familiar kitchens of contemporary America to the far reaches of the globe. In France, an over-enthusiastic waitress serves M. F. K. Fisher the lunch of a lifetime to sustain her on a walk to Avallon. In Tunisia, Ruth Reichl dines at the home of a local, where the meal is eaten with the hands and a dash of sensuality. And in Fiji, where the women are big and beautiful and walk like royalty, Laurie Gough encounters food as a grand and constant celebration. The lively, literate tone of Her Fork in the Road makes it both an enduring read and an ideal companion for the kitchen or the road.

Book Description
A stunning and original compendium of photographs starring dogs and their owners.
Prince is a beautiful collection of Victorian photographs of dogs posing with and without their loving owners. Charming and strangely moving, these photographs defy conventional expectations. Seemingly a random assortment-the photographs were rescued by the author from a junkshop-they gradually assume a sense of meaning, as if there were a story being told with every picture.
Both hilarious and poignant, Prince and Other Dogs is the ideal gift for anyone who loves dogs.
Customer Reviews:
Prince and Other Dogs.......2007-03-21
This is a surprise birthday present for my husband. It arrived in a timely fashion and in good shape. Thanks.
A gem of a book!.......2005-01-01
This is a beautiful and heart-stirring little book of dogs and their people. The love for one's dog is not bound by century nor time. We have a common thread with these "strangers" from the past: we all love our dogs. I do the same thing with my dog! I pose with her, sit next to her, kiss her--all for the camera. This is a book to leave not on your shelf but out on the coffee table to share with everyone! It is a simple book--all photos, no text. I like it that way. This allows the photos to speak to you. I find myself picking up the book time-and-again and meditating on each picture. Wondering what the dog's name was, the person's name. How long did they live? Where are they from? I look at their clothes and the expressions on the dog's and person's face. They all have a story. I look at the dog's cute little body and dirty little paws and wonder how many steps those paws walked. Then I look over at my own dog sleeping peacefully and my heart swells with love. This is a gem of a book for any dog lover or lover of photos from the past. Simply lovely!
A Good Book For A Smile.......2003-04-18
If you love dogs and pictures of dogs, you'll love this. It's one I keep by my bed to relax me for a short rest or nap.
LITTLE DOG LOST.......2002-02-01
Little Dog Lost...but now is FOUND. These Victorian photographs haven't been viewed for 100 years. When I was looking at them I felt like these little dogs were lost and I had found them in Libby Hall's book and they live on. Every page has a wonderful, beloved, beautiful dog who's face is saying "love me". I have several Victorian photo and ephemera books but "Libby Hall's Prince" is the one to get! Don't pass on this book!
I like the way this book is presented, too. The photographs fit the pages. There isn't much commentary, just the fascinating photographs. I thank Libby Hall for putting this book together and I hope that if she finds more photographs that she won't hesitate to do another book. She has preserved these photos for all to see and they will be cherished.
Wonderful! Must have book for any dog lover!.......2001-04-30
Each photograph warmed my heart and brought a smile to my face! This is the absolute best book of dog photographs I have ever seen. The book is full of old studio photographs of dogs, sometimes together with family members,no captions added. The dogs shown in the book were obviously much-loved members of their families. There is also a second book now: PRINCE II (which is just as good as this first book).

Book Description
More than any other world leader in recent times, George W. Bush is a man of faith…a conservative Christian who has brought the power of prayer and the search for God's will into the Oval Office. His faith has proven to be a bedrock of strength and resolve during two of the most tumultuous years in our nation's history. According to
Newsweek magazine, "This presidency is the most resolutely faith based in modern times. An enterprise founded, supported and guided by trust in the temporal and spiritual power of God." David Aikman, skilled journalist and former senior correspondent for
TIME magazine, pens this dramatic and gripping account of Bush's journey to faith. Based on interviews and behind-the-scenes stories, you'll learn how…
- His life changed after a conversation with Billy Graham on the beach at Kennebunkport
- He walked away from alcoholism toward a new destiny
- The events following 9/11 caused many to view him as God's chosen man for this critical time in history
- His decision to go to war with Iraq became the ultimate test of his faith
A Man of Faith…an intimate look at how Bush's spiritual life has impacted his presidency, the nation, and the world.
Customer Reviews:
President Bush: A great man of faith and a great President.......2007-02-26
I guess I am the only one that has actually read this book and the Bible. An unnecessary war? Maybe these people have been hiding under a rock. Or maybe they are just liberals that love to act like they have faith until they open their mouths and it becomes obvious they have no idea what they are talking about. Anyway, if you are a "true" Christian that actually reads and understands your Bible, you will enjoy this book. Thank God for President Bush. A great man of convictions, values, and morals. The rest of you - well you are cowardly traitors.
NOT ALL WHO CRY LORD LORD SHALL ENTER THE KINGDOM.......2006-10-24
A man of faith with the faith unspecified.
Back in the 1800's when his folks were in politics, they firmly believed the wrong side won the AMerican REvolution.
This book, written by a subject of the British throne reveals why Bush once again places us as peons and mercenaries for the british imperial crown.
Back in the 1800's the bush family joined Cotton MAther of Yale in burning landowners as witches in order to steal their profitable farms.
Now he demonizes the IRaqi nation and kills an estimated million of them to steal their oil fields
Nothing new under the sun. Only do not call it faith
FAith in the gun, maybe.
Saint JAmes writes even the devil believes in God and shudders in fear.
Faith without good works is nothing.
By their fruits will you know them.
Bush's fruits stink to high heaven.
For a faith with good works read a theologian like the REverend Father John Dear's Jesus the rebel, and learn why every Christian faithful and true must firmly oppose George W Bush.
By the way, this piece of partisan politicizing which helped steal our 2004 elections by deceiving countless well-intended but eagerly gullible people is now going for fourteen cents.
Bush has strong faith.......2006-05-04
in the right of the rich to get richer, while the poor get poorer and the middle class treads water. Re his targeted tax cuts: 53 per cent to the wealthiest 2 percent.
in the importance of corporate welfare. Heavy tax subsidies for the energy industry and no bulk purchasing of meds for the elderly. Bulk purchasing would decrease the cost for the elderly, but drive down profits for big pharma.
in the exemption of himself from the commandment not to bear false witness. Every time Bush calls the war in Iraq part of the war against terror he lies. Even he has admitted there were no connections between Saddam and 9/11.
Bush's stance on conservation (relaxed controls of air and water pollution) is also at odds with the biblical teaching that God has made us stewards of the earth.
Measured against the teachings of Jesus, Bush's faith amounts to empty words for photo ops. One can cry, "Lord, lord" and not please the Lord. Jesus had a word for those whose deeds are empty of the faith they profess: hypocrites.
Useful corrections to the errors in this book are to be found in Kevin Phillips, American Theocracy and Bruce Bartlett, Impostor. Even better correctives are to found in the gospels: Bush approves of torture, capital punishment, and the amassing of wealth. All things that Jesus despised.
Hmmm.......2006-04-20
Who would Jesus bomb? Who shall we bomb next in the name of Jesus?
A man of faith? FAITH??? .......2006-04-14
Judging by the pathetic mess George W. Bush has made of the USA and Iraq during the last five years, the masses of people he's killed through his phony wars, and the negative feelings he's engendered in so many countries around the world, one has to wonder WHAT exactly IS his "faith"? Surely it isn't Christianity...anyone with half a brain who knows anything about Jesus' message (non-violence and tolerance, for those without a clue) can see that Bush has violated nearly every tenet of Christianity during his life and especially during his "presidency".
What IS Bush's "faith" exactly? It's his faith in his own self-righteousness...faith in his corporate buddies to bail him out of any hole he digs for himself...faith in the ignorance of so many so-called "Christian" folk to support his ignorant, misguided leadership. That's what Bush's "faith" is. It sure ain't in the actions and teachings of Jesus Christ.

Book Description
'The tide spreads a mantle of silk Around the Great Blasket Island' So wrote Micheal O'Guiheen of his beloved island home. But by 1953 the authorities had evacuated the Great Blasket and its traditions were vanishing. Micheal O'Guiheen, 'the Poet' of the book, was the son of Peig Sayers, who wrote 'An Old Woman's Reflections'. But while that was a celebration of the good times, and her son's schoolmate Maurice O'Sullivan's 'Twenty Years A-Growing' was a book of laughing youth, this takes the story to sombre middle age. It tells of sunny times clouded over only by unconscious intimations of mortality, not only of youth but also of an irreplaceable culture: the consternation caused by a passing comet, the drudgery of a turf-gathering expedition turning into a carefree rabbit hunt. This first and only English edition of O'Guiheen's 'cri de coeur' is supplemented by translations, from the author's own poetry, previously only available in the original. The Blasket Islands are three miles off Ireland's Dingle Peninsular. Until their evacuation just after the Second World War, the lives of the 150 or so Blasket Islanders had remained unchanged for centuries. A rich oral tradition of story-telling, poetry, and folktales kept alive the legends and history of the islands, and has made tier literature famous throughout the world. The seven Blasket Island books published by OUP contain memoirs and reminiscences from within this literary tradition, evoking a way of life which has now vanished.

Pity Youth Does Not Last.......2007-10-06
It has been years since I read this book, yet it keeps coming to mind. The author's use of language is exquisite and touching. It is a tale of life in a time and place that can never be replicated. I have never seen the Blasket Islands, nor known anyone from there, yet I feel that I have been there and experienced it as fully as if I lived there in the islands' zenith, which, like the youth referred to in the title, surely could not last in the modern world.
