I found this book to be incrediably useful. I purchased the guide book before my trip to North Carolina and found the detail about Nitrox availability, camera friendly dive boats, and dive shops to be right on the mark! I've never seen this kind of detail available in any other diving guide book.
I definatley recommend this book to any diver planning a diving vacation.

SUBJECTIVE VIEWS, INTERESTING CHOICES, GOOD SUGGESTIONS.......2002-09-20

A diver for just two years, I have already used this Unofficial Guide on at least three occasions. Yes, the choices presented are highly subjective (as most diving guides tend to be), but there are a wide range of locales and choices to get one started. I have begun all of my diving vacations by referring first to this guide...then researching more thoroughly on the internet. Usually, I end up using one of the dive operators and diving resorts which the book has suggested and finish the process by making reservations via the internet or by phone. If you enjoy reading more comprehensively about diving before making your decision, look elsewhere...if you are like me and prefer to glance at something more condensed or capsulized, check out "World's Best Diving Vacations."

Interesting and Informative.......2002-07-22

This book is a must have for anyone traveling to diving/snorkeling destinations. My husband and I recently used it while traveling to Long Island Bahamas. Information on lodging, restaurants and points of interest were right on the mark. We have recommended this book to friends who found it very useful also.

Divers and non-divers alike would benefit from this guide. The author writes in an informative and interesting style, giving personal and historical information. It is enjoyable and easy to read. I pick it up for pleasure to read about places I want to travel to in the future.

This guide makes it possible to travel with confidence to completely unfamiliar places, knowing what to expect when you get there. Don't go diving without it.

This Unofficial Guide is a must-have if you like to keep your gear-bag packed for your next adventure. Jean Pierce has been there, done it and dived it. Having dived from Palau to Peurto Rico, myself, I thought I knew all there was to know about getting to the world's best diving, but this book has opened my eyes to even more. Informative, and written from a diver's eyes (as opposed to the travel agent's); it gives you the information you need to know if you want to get maximum bang for your diving dollar and diving time. I believe in traveling light, but I will always find room for this book in my bag -- it's just that necessary.

Extremely limited perspective.......2002-05-04

An absolute waste of money! As it turns out, I've been diving recently at many of the locations listed plus quite a few others. Given the title, I thought the list would be quite comprehensive. I expect there will always be differences of Opinion on subjects like this, but I can't figure out the logic of the locations chosen. The authors maintain that ease of travel is important to them, then list Heron Island Australia, but leave out locations like Bali. My biggest criticism, however is the long list of East Coast USA choices.

What a wonderful story about our best friends. It brought back fond memories and tears of our first Golden Retriever, Riley. He was adopted but developed a severe medical problem. Riley poured out his heart with love. I would recommend this book to anyone who owns a dog, owned a dog, wants to own a dog, or is wondering what it would be like to own a dog. You will fall in love with Kilroy and his friend Riley. It is a touching story of friendship and bonding and the service Guide Dogs provide to those in need. Definitely Five Stars!

A Book to Touch Your Heart.......2004-01-13

I have just finished reading Dear Kilroy. From the first few words, I knew that I didn't want this book to end. I was totally immersed in every page. Harrison's ability to put emotions into such descriptive language left me yearning to cuddle my own dogs. It's beautifully written with equally expressive photos. I can't remember a book that has touched my heart in such a meaningful way as Dear Kilroy.

I am a teacher. "Dear Kilroy" is a terrific book for the classroom. Through the stories and photos about dogs, the author shares meaningful lessons about human relations and living more fully. Students can relate to the stories--they "get" it. The story "Riley's Eye" is particularly good when discussing tolerance and acceptance of others. This book is also an excellent example of evocative storytelling; the writing is descriptive yet tight. Every word counts. "Dear Kilroy" is not a children's book, but it is appropriate for all ages. Highly recommended.

Uplifting and Compelling.......2003-08-19

Nora Vitz Harrison's collection of inspirational stories, photographs and imaginary correspondence captures the magic of the human-canine bond. The common characters among the stories tie the book together so one story flows to the next. I sat down to read the introduction and discovered several hours later that I had read the entire book in one sitting -- it's that compelling. As I read, I came to care for each of the characters, both human and canine. I yearned for a happy ending for all of them. But Harrison's very personal book is true to life; not every story has a happy ending. While DEAR KILROY elicited tears, it also made me laugh out loud many times. It may be about dogs -- guide dogs, animal-shelter dogs and pet dogs -- but DEAR KILROY is more than a "dog" book. It is a book about life, love and becoming better humans. As I read the last page, I felt uplifted, and I was reminded of the very important lessons our animal friends can teach us if we would just pay attention. DEAR KILROY has become my gift of choice to all my animal-loving friends. A beautiful book.

So imagine: you go to a restaurant, order a hamburger, take a bite and then another bite and realize something is fishy; that maybe it's a fish sandwich.Well, that was sort of the experience (the analogy is rather kind) I had when I started reading this fraudulent book. First I thought, how strange, I never had any idea Curly lived this type of life. I knew he drank too much. He married many times. But this? Curly in the mob? And then, yes, I thought, this cannot be; a guy named Horwitz from Brooklyn, N.Y., happens to have an uncle named Guido and needs to visit Sicily on his behalf. The author says in the forward that she did research "and it took a year to gather the information needed to write her story and to verify certain aspects of it." This is the most ridiculous, misleading book I've ever encountered. Sadly, I bought it. Amazon and the book itself should clearly label it "fiction" or better yet, garbage.. If you read the forward, you would think this is the real thing. I was excited at the thought of reading some insights into Curly. I read a few chapters, scratching my head along the way before I put it down for good. As someone earlier wrote here, I would rate it zero if I could. Anyone who bought this book should get a refund from Amazon or the author. And yes, it's not very well written..

If you're expecting a warm memoir from Curly Howard's oldest daughter, about a period of struggle in the great comedian, when family and friends helped to sustain him, this "book" is so far off the beam not even to qualify as an historical curiosity.
We've all been "burned" by misleading advertisements, or mis-labeling on products, i.e. records with a familiar name on the label and it turns out to be another singer, but the titling here is simply irresponsible. It's been written that the Publisher believes the work is basically fictional - okay - where's the prefacing statement to that effect? And that's not accounting for the absence of any show business/period references, scholarly research, which the editors apparently thought couldn't help the "story".
If this "Author" chose to write a book (or essay) exploring how such a story can even be imagined, it may have some use. Without that stretch, we are left with something very disrespectful to the publishing world and to fans. Is it possible that this writer's enthusiasm for this project clouded her professional instincts?
Curly Howard brought plenty of joy to this world; continues to do so. This book brings disappointment and depression to the eager readers.
Of course, the readers should be reminded of, or referred to, the excellent book, easily accessed through Amazon, actually written by Joan Howard Maurer of Jerome Horwitz, which covers alot of ground in that somewhat "mysterious" time in the life of one our most beloved actors.

I can't believe someone would publish this as a fact based story. It is so far from the documented truth about Curly it makes me crazy. Don't publishers check sources anymore? If you make up a story like this, at least have the guts to call it a Novel not a fact based book.

Besides the fact that it is purely fictional, this book isn't even well written and I sincerely doubt there was a legitimate publisher involved. There are typo's or misspelled words on nearly every page and the style is similar to something you might read by a 7th grader. Don't waste 3 hours of your life on this!

I could not put this book down!! Very well written very truthful.
I found it completely honest and sad.
I have read all the reviews and find it hard to understand the hateful things people say.
Why would anyone tell this story for any reason if it were not true.
As a woman, I understand you would not tell this for any amount of money.
If it were not true tell me why the family has not sued?
Can anyone say DNA?
Maybe its hard for some to understand, what it takes to tell a story that has haunted you for so many years.
Maybe some just want their ideas to be right and what they thought they knew to be true.
This story has some details that can be verified, maybe some should do that.I have.

Fear of the collar, although quite well written, only scratched the surface of the issues at hand in regard to the attrocity of Artane boys school. The book deals with one mans perception of what was undoubtedly a tragic part of Irish life. For readers of the book that endured this systematic beating of "men of the cloth" in Artane, this will not give an accurate description. The reason for this is that each person in the school went through different ordeals and humiliations. The book, in the reviewers opinion, should take a more generic stance and give the readers a more diverse range of opinions of people that were also present. That said, the book is worth a read but does not reach its potential.

Easy Plan To Follow.......2001-01-15

I heard the author at a financial seminar in Dallas in October of 2000. He spoke immediately after Wade Cook. Mr. Cook mentioned Charles Steed had a really good book about real estate (this was not a real estate seminar). After that, I heard about this book again so I ordered a copy. I must say, this is the easiest book to follow on buying real estate I've seen, and I've read most of them. It outlines a step by step plan a child could follow. Steed also uses stories that help make his point. Although the author seems to be speaking to people buying a home, the techniques are ones he has used in his investing career and are great for investors just beginning as well as people with some experience behind them. The technique for generating a cash down payment is EXCELLENT. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to get started investing in real estate or simply buying a home.

Home buying made easy!.......1999-01-05

There are many more ways to buy a piece of property than just going to the bank and begging for a mortgage - this book explains them. I was told we couldn't qualify for a loan. I heard the author of this book on the radio in Florida, bought the book, and within 3 months was able to make a deal to buy a nice three bedroom house in Tampa with 100 percent seller financing. It is also filled with ideas on how to make money investing in real estate. The book comes from the standpoint of being optomistic while shopping for your house and always going for what you want. I doubt we'd be in our new house now without it. It also does a great job of explaining real estate finance so even a novice can understand it.
