Excellent Travel Guide to Scotland.......2000-01-02

This is one of the finest travel guides I've seen for Scotland. It contains a very detailed map of the entire country (rather than only parts), including road, rail and ferry routes, and covers the Highlands right up to Orkney and the Shetland Islands -- two places not well-covered in most books. More comprehensive than Fodor's or Frommer's guides to the country. The book would receive five stars if it included weather and climate information; otherwise, the comprehensive map and listings of contacts and places are excellent.

Predicting the Future--From a Kid's Point of View.......2005-05-03

Now that the 21st century is well on the way, I've found myself being drawn to books written in the 20th century talking about the 21st century. I find it both amusing and fascinating to see what authors were writing and predicting about "the future." COUNTDOWN TO 2000 is one such book, but written for kids. The book is written kind of as a prediction book/scrapbook combo and includes four major sections.

The first section explains where the word millennium came from, how the modern calendar came to be, and some suggestions on creating a time capsule. The second section is all about predictions. Predictions about the end of the world, robots, space exploration, and the environment. There's also a sections about science fiction and about what life was like around the year 999. The third section is also about predictions, but more on a personal level: the types of food people will eat, the clothes people will wear, how people will shop, the types of jobs, and how people will entertain themselves. The final section of the book is the major scrapbook feature and provides a place where people can record all sorts of events for the next 6 years (1996-2001): height, weight, friends, favorites songs, favorite teachers, favorite movies, etc.

I've always found the majority of children's prediction books to be funny. For example, the clothing section in COUNTDOWN TO 2000 makes the prediction that in the new millennium "space-age-fashion" (sterile white clothing with shiny metal)will be all the rage. This is a prediction that I have read in books for the past twenty years and it has yet to come to pass. Of course, there are some predictions made in the book that have become a reality. Back in 1996 the Internet had just started to enter the public mainstream and the book predicts that the Internet will play a huge role in the future and commands readers to "get prepared--the internet is coming to you." That's a prediction that did become a reality because most kids today can't imagine life without the Internet.

Besides the predictions and some simple games, COUNTDOWN TO 2000 also includes several interesting tidbits of information. For example, in 1957 a "House of the Future" was built at Disneyland that was made totally from plastic. Ten years later when the house was to be demolished for a new exhibit--the wrecking ball bounced off the surface and the house had to be taken apart by hand.

Overall, I enjoyed reading COUNTDOWN TO 2000. Though the book offers some educational and entertainment value, most kids won't have much interest, except those that will be amused by the book's (often hilarious) predictions.

Great reference.......2002-12-13

There are plenty of books out there that have super action poses, but not many with normal, usual settings. Each scene is photographed from a variety of angles. This book has the model poses that you can't find anywhere else like a back view of two people on the couch. An artist needs to be able to illustrate a believable, natural setting as much as he needs to capture motion. I love this book and I am surprised there aren't more just like it.

An excellent illustrators reference of couples interacting........1999-04-14

This is an illustrator's reference book, which depicts a great many poses of couples (one man and one woman) interacting in natural, believable atmospheres.

My only complaint is that the pictures aren't very dynamic. They seem rather static. But there are so many angles of so many poses, that it's a great book nonetheless; a handy additon to the reference-rack in the studio.

This book was a great read. Ricci Martin worte a great book on a beloved man, his DAD, and I am sure Dean is very happy with this book.

A Beautifully Written Book In Memory Of His Dad.......2005-04-30

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I felt that it was honestly written and I could actually get a sense of what it was like to be one of Dean Martin's children. I always knew that Dean Martin was a loving, nurturing and caring father and this book just reaffirmed that for me. Thanks to Ricci for doing a WONDERFUL job with allowing his readers to share in his memories with his famous Dad. After reading this book, it is very apparent to me that Dean Martin was the complete package: a GREAT entertainer, singer and movie star, and above all else a wonderful person and loving and caring father. He really was the type of person that he depicted and the person that we welcomed into our living rooms every Thursday night and with every opportunity we had to watch him on TV. Thanks Ricci for writing this book and making it one in which WE ALL REMEMBER.

To me this book was moe an autobiography about Ricci, Dean is in it but more as a supporting character rather than the main. Most chapters are about some event in Ricci's life and you might get some insight as how Dean felt about it, but if if you are expecting a pure biography about Dean Martin this book isn't for you.

If you love Dean Martin this is definetly the book for you!! I actually put the book down and stopped reading it to make it last longer. It was wonderful! Ricci takes you to their home and places you right there to watch their life unfold. I laughed at the good times and cried with the sad times. Makes me want to turn back the clock of time. This book is well written. The love of a son for his father & family is apparent. Now that I have read it, I will definetly read it again. This is a must read!!!!
