Sign me up; the only question is which one to choose.......2004-12-27
This is a fabulous resource for those who want to get away from it all in the Pacific Northwest. I picked up this book because even though I grew up in the NW, I have always wanted to take a weekend somewhere quiet and romantic in the area. Our trips home these days are filled with relatives and family events, which while wonderful are draining in their own right. OK, well perhaps the stress of an executive job in corporate America, and two small, wonderful, relentless, beautiful, demanding....children makes the idea of a weekend with nothing to do but watch the ocean, read, and relax, something to aspire to, and dream about, and well, something we must do now for our sanity!
The book looks at romantic inns, bed and breakfasts, and small hotels throughout the northwest from the Oregon coast, to British Columbia, both in small towns and out of the way secluded locations to the big cities like Seattle, Portland and Vancouver. The different locations are presented in full color, and organized by region.
I really enjoyed the combination of descriptions and many personal insights. The photography is outstanding, and each location is presented well. However, I would depict this book as being more as a coffee table book than a travel guide. Many travel guides have much more detail to use while on the road. This book is one that can be used to make a choice, while knowing that follow up information will be required to execute your plans.
This is a beautiful book, well written, and one that will hopefully generate the result of a weekend getaway for us in the near future. A great visual and informational treat for anyone interested in visiting this part of the country.
GREAT.......2003-07-13
I live in this part of the country, I didn't know there was no much great places to stay here! Thank you! I know lots of places to get away! I just need that special someone! :)
I never would have found a secret getaway without this book!.......2000-07-30
My husband and I spent a wonderful two days in July 2000 staying in "The Cabin." at the Guest House Cottages on Whidbey Island. We found this romantic spot in this book. There are so many wonderful places in this book, so I will tell you about the place we stayed to give you an idea of the quality of the listings presented in this great resource.
We stayed in the cutest log cabin you have ever seen, pictures at my site. A complimentary continental breakfast was set up for us on arrival. We loved having our own kitchen and a grocery store nearby so we could pick up needed supplies for a picnic at the beach. There was a beautiful pool where you could lay out in the sun. In the winter you would be sipping hot chocolate by one of the beautiful fireplaces in your cabin. The cabins were off the road in the woods and have queen or king-size featherbeds. The floors, walls and ceilings were all wood. They have river-rock fireplaces or wood-burning stoves, skylights and antique furnishings. The one we stayed in had beautiful stained-glass windows. They really went out of their way to make our stay as romantic as possible. Once you have your key, the cabin is all yours. It is your own private getaway. If you are running late they even offer to leave the key out for you when you arrive.
There was a private deck complete with barbecue and two chairs so you could sit and look out over the pond inhabited by African geese. The surroundings were lush and green and we saw lots of the cutest bunnies.
We also visited a lavender field and brought home a little lavender plant. If you do visit these same cottages, don't forget to visit Deception Pass. In fact, plan to stay at least two days, there are plenty of activities, including hiking and sailing.
I can truly say that without this book, we would most likely have never known about this secret hideaway. So, between you and me....don't tell too many people! This is a great place. Only tell your best friends or buy them this book. I also recommend this book as a wedding present.
The pages are filled with pictures of each getaway and the general prices are also listed for your convenience. I believe there is a new book with updated information, but this is the one I have.

Beautifully Photographed; A Wonderful Resource!.......2000-02-04
"Weekends for Two in the Pacific Northwest" is a perfect resource for couples looking to have some away-time in a special place. From Ashland to Seattle, the beautiful photographs and detailed explainations are very helpful in planning your gettaway. Prices and aspects of dozens of hotels, lodges, B&Bs, etc. are explored and the authors even give personal oppinons, and suggestions on which rooms are more romantic. I would recommend this book to anyone with a heart for romance. It's a favorite in my household!
Incredible!!!!.......1998-03-18
This book has done a wonderful job of collecting some of the best places in the Pacific Northwest for couples. It gives comprehensive descriptions, tells you the best rooms to stay in, gives rates (they may be a little out of date now, but still-ballpark), and in general does a good job of showcasing the selected hotels. It made me want to visit every one of them. If you live in the area, or are visiting, and are romantically inclined, or know someone who is, get this book.

Customer Reviews:
Not exactly what I wanted.......2002-08-21
I was looking for a book to give grooming and clipping information that I could use on my mixed breed dog. This book does include some information on those subjects (maybe 20 pages on clipping) but not enough for me to feel comfortable clipping my dog.
The majority of this book (over 40 pages) is devoted to skin disorders and how to treat them. Perhaps this will be useful later but it was not really what I was looking for.
Ok, but not the best.......2001-05-07
The book has usefull information, for example the steps you should follow in washing your dog or cat, but is very vague in the cuts for specific breeds. This book is perfect as an introduction for a more complete guide to grooming pets.
Product Description

Antique/Collectible Fishing Reels Review.......2006-08-24
The book was very nicely done. The photos and detail were displayed to easily compare your product. Recommend highly.
A GREAT BOOK ABOUT OLD FISHING REELS.......2001-01-24
Without hesitation I highly recommend this book. Mr. Jellison clearly provides a general primer on reel collecting and patent history. He includes thousands of value listings and I feel that the coverage of the subject is substantial, particularly in the area of reel repairs and evaluation of reel defects. A good reference for anyone interested in fishing reels of the past!
Disappiontment.......2001-01-22
The book is very general! There are not very many specifics about any of the reels. In fact,I personally own several reels from manufactors of reels listed in the book that are not even listed. I was very disappionted. If I would have been able to review this book in a book store,I would have not purchised it!
Antique&CollectibleFishingReels:Identification,Evaluation&.......2000-05-03
This book is of great value and interest to the collector of fishing equipment. They will know what to look for when attending swap meets and yard sales. It will also help them to make repairs if needed to their finds.

Fishing Tackle Antiques and Collectibles, Vol. 2.......2005-10-19
This is one of the few antique reel books that has extensive decent photos of collector reels and lures. The book is composed of about 1/3 lures and 2/3 reels. It would have been better to be either all lures. or all reels - since most of us collect one or the other. I collect reels, so my comments will only be for the reel section.
Unfortunately, the photo angles are inadequate for the reels. Most serious collectors want to see the face plate, the tail plate and the bottom of the reel. All three photos are required to properly identify many reels. Mr. White does not show the bottom of any reels - so you can't see the reel foot design or the foot bridge clearly - a major draw back. Though there are lots of photos, further disappointments await the buyer when he finds that many significant reel models from manufacturers are not shown or listed incorrectly - i.e. the Thomas Chubb Black Bass Reel. (Later found this reel listed under Henshall and Antwerp - which is the model crediting two people who helped Chubb with the design, not the manufacturer - which was Thomas Chubb.)
He also includes about 250 unknown reels - one assumes because it makes us feel better that he didn't identify those reels either. However, I note that quite a few of his unknown reels are identified by other authors in their books.
Mr. White also places values on the reels. Those values may reflect high end auction house prices, but they are more than twice or three times the prices seen on EBay every day for similar reels of excellent condition. Another draw back is Mr. Whites prices are for reels of "Excellent Condition." Since very few reels of "Excellent Condition" are ever seen - it further reduces value of Mr. White's evaluations. Even Mr. Whites says there could be %50 flucuation. I personally find Lawsson's Price Guide to be far closer to reality and its based on Lang's Auctions and give reels a numerical condition rating that you can compare to the value it was actually sold at. Unfortunately, Lawson's does not include any pictures, so it is limited help indentification wise.
In summary, a book with lots of reel and photos that may be some help with reel identification - if you have a marked reel. A cross referenced index by model, type, mfg. and key manufacture signature characteristics would have made the book a lot more helpful. In all fairness to Mr. White - no such book exists. This book has limited photo information, and no other information on reel identification characteristics or mfg. history. The photos were a good start - but it could have been so much more.

Vintage Fishing Reels of Sweden.......2007-01-12
Very thorough info on the early ABU line. I learned a lot of things, goes into depth, only wish there was more on the baitcasting line of reels. A lot of the info is in reference to other styles of reels which naturally is good for people collecting different styles. I only had wished that it had covered the 2500 line of reels more in depth. The info on the Record line, early Garcia line of 5000's, etc. is very good.

Book Description
In this companion volume to his critically acclaimed first book,
The Tao of Muhammad Ali, Davis Miller turns his attention to a second iconic figure of the twentieth century--and another of Miller's own seminal influences: film star and martial arts legend Bruce Lee.
Just weeks after completing Enter the Dragon, his first vehicle for a worldwide audience, Bruce Lee--the self-proclaimed world's fittest man--died mysteriously at the age of thirty-two. The film has since grossed over $500 million, making it one of the most profitable in the history of cinema, and Lee has acquired almost mythic status.
Lee was a flawed, complex, yet singular talent. He revolutionized the martial arts and forever changed action moviemaking. But what has his legacy truly meant to the fans he left behind? To author Davis Miller, Lee was a profound mentor and a transformative inspiration. As a troubled young man in rural North Carolina, Miller was on a road to nowhere when he first saw Enter the Dragon, an encounter that would lead him on a physical, emotional, and spiritual journey and would change his life.
As in The Tao of Muhammad Ali, Miller brilliantly combines biography--the fullest, most unflinching and revelatory to date--with his own coming-of-age story. The result is a unique and compelling book.

Miller, Davis. The Tao of Bruce Lee: A Martial Arts Memoir
Miller combines a biography of Bruce Lee with his own coming-of-age story as a "karate kid" in the early 1970s. Whether describing how a viewing of Lee's Enter the Dragon changed his life or dispelling many of the myths behind the Lee legend, Miller manages to turn the story of two lives into a fascinating study of the nature of the hero in popular culture. Bruce And The Truth.......2007-01-25
The subtitle, A Martial Arts Memoir, describes what this book is really about. It's not a biography about Bruce Lee - though various "facts" and "myths" about him are detailed or debunked. Rather, it's a tale of how Bruce Lee's movies, athleticism, martial arts prowess, focus and determination, philosophy, and larger-than-life persona awoke the dormant soul of a ninety pound weakling. The Tao of Bruce Lee details Davis Miller's transformation from sad, loner, directionless, teenage failure into an accomplished martial artist, writer and, most importantly, vibrant, purposeful human being. The misery of Miller's life before seeing Bruce Lee explode on the screen in Enter the Dragon is, in places, gut-wrenching. But the sadness and despair are replaced by optimism and an the urge to yell, "`atta-boy!" as the young Miller slowly wriggles out of his cocoon. Miller's is a story of possibilities; if he can discover himself, find meaning and contentment in life, anyone can. Beside the quasi-spiritual autobiographical stuff, Miller touches on Bruce Lee's martial arts skills and reputation, his meteoric rise to superstardom, particularly in Asia, the facts surrounding his death and his enduring worldwide impact. There is a lot about Muhammad Ali and comparisons and contrasts between these two very talented men (and what they gave to the world.) Miller brings up Ali so much, one may wonder why he didn't simply write one book, The Tao of Muhammad Ali and Bruce Lee. This book is better on reflection than when actually reading it. I like it more now - and would rate it higher - than I did when I turned the last page this morning. It has a good aftertaste.

Another great book by Davis Miller.......2005-07-04
When I first read the Tao of Bruce Lee, I was expecting another biography of Lee (and being a die-hard fan of Lee, that would have been perfectly fine), but this book turned out to be a lot more than that.
The first half of the book deals with the life of Davis Miller himself - growing up as a scrawny, ninety pound kid in North Carolina - and the profound impact Lee had on his life. Inspired by Lee, Miller finds the motivation to try and better his meaningless life by practicing hard to become the greatest Martial Artist alive (or as he puts it: "lightning on limbs"). I am sure the discipline and dedication he learnt while practicing Martial Arts helped him later in his life as a writer.
The second half of the book focuses more on Lee, and tries to remove the "thick mist of money making" that has obscured the true story of Bruce Lee by presenting a very honest and well researched account of Lee's life. Overall, an extremely well written and readable book.
Fun reading.......2004-12-03
"I desperately need something to read", I suddenly recalled when I was heading for my favourite coffeshop. So, I popped in and started to look for something, and this book sort of beamed at me. I got it under the impression that it was a biography about Bruce Lee, but it turns out that it is more a book about Davis Miller's relation to Bruce Lee and how Lee has influenced him. It is very easy reading and a quite nice book, and at page 97 and onwards a small biography about Bruce Lee (or Li Jun Fan, which was his real name) appears. Apparently it is hard to find any books with true facts, Davis Miller claims that this one shall be rather close to truth, and you will learn that Bruce Lee wasn't the lonely martial arts master that one thinks. If you like martial arts in general, and more specifically Bruce Lee, get this book, you will finish it within a couple of days and it is fun reading.

Book Description
This book is the first modern intellectual biography of the Scottish theologian and political theorist Samuel Rutherford (c. 1600-1661). Its main purpose is to provide a thorough discussion of Rutherford's religious and political ideas, and their role in the ideology of the Scottish Covenanters whose rebellion against Charles I marked the beginning of the British troubles in the mid-seventeenth century. The book also constitutes an important multidisciplinary case study in the Calvinist and Puritan traditions.
Customer Reviews:
An honest, sympathetic and lucid account.......1999-11-24
Rutherford is popularly known through his famous Letters. However, he was a much more complex chartacter. Dr Coffey handles difficult issues expertly so that it is an intellectual treat to reads. He interacts very capably with modern (mis)interpretations. This book illuminates the subject. Only a few very minor errors have been noted.
