Nice "Northwest travel guide".......2003-02-10

I visit Portland often and have long wanted to also spend some time in Seattle. As much as I get to Portland, I had no idea about some of the places mentioned in this book. Lots of attractions, where to eat, where to shop, what to wear in both Portland & Seattle, and so forth. With all the times I've been in the great Northwest, I had no idea how much there truly was to see in both cities. And the book is written in a casual enough style, so that not only can you read about various places to see, but also this can be used as a quick reference.

The next time I travel to Portland (and when I get up to Seattle), I'm definitely taking this book with me so I can visit some of the areas and restaurants I've missed in my previous travels there.

Anyone planning a visit to either city will enjoy this book.

I love the Entreprenuer's web site and magazine so I snapped this book up. It's really a fireside reading and doesn't go into detailed action steps. You are better off going on the government's import export web site: http://www.itds.treas.gov/index.html

The authors of this book could not make up their minds "should this be a joke or serious book" their choice was to make serious subjects into a joke and thus made a truly worthless book. It got to the point where I was so upset at having to read 6th grade jokes (sorry 6th graders, you are probably much more clever) that any information was lost. You can learn as more about the import/export business by going to the store and reading shipping labels.

Why isn't there an author attached to this book? Just editors from this quick buck series. Do they have experience starting a import/export business? You can probably find everything in this book from google. Save your money.

I am surprised by all the other negative reviews. THis is a good book on the basics of importing. It is a little general, and some is a little out of date. Good ideas, and a good start. I copied the cover so I could read some of the publishers other titles. I liked it. I also recommend Nelson, Zodl, and Weiss' books. THose are more specific with details.

There is nothing in this book about importing or exporting. It is about starting a business in general and is full of information you could obtain in one average business magazine. Total waste of time.

This book might be nice for a pre-kindergarten reading level and someone that has absolutely no serious interest in starting an import/export business, for the others i recommend not purchasing this crap. This book will only anger you when it defines importing as follows "Importing is, basically, the opposite of exporting..." Ya don't say!? I'm still searching for another import/export book worth a flip, so far i've found my best information from digging through the U.S. customs website, better luck to the rest of ya.

Very good coffee table book........2006-01-27

I'm not a big fan of this type of book, but this one is very good. First, it's an english translation from French, and gives the reader another (very French) point of view. Second, it gives descriptions and nice pictures of many breeds most in the US have never seen.

Just a warning, before you fall in love with some rare breed after reading about it once, keep in mind they will be expensive, and the popular breeds are popular for a reason. I have seen many of the European breeds in action, and some of the descrpitions in this book must only describe the best of the breed, on it's best day. Many are very generous, particularly if the breed originated in France.

It's a nice reference and I get it off the shelf frequently when I have my dog friends over; my neices and nephews enjoy reading "that book with all the dogs" as well.

A great look at gundogs from the eyes of a French hunter.......2001-12-06

Although superficially just another pretty canine encyclopedia, the succinct and honest descriptions of the breeds make this worth the price. Typical of Europeans, Lepeudry knows how to look critically at something without necessarily being critical OF it (indeed, he takes great pride in the cynological achievements from all over the globe). He provides great insights into the regional breeds of France, as well as other Continentals such as the GWP and Pudelpointer. He tells about his countrymen did not initially understand the nature of flushing spaniels and retrievers, and subsequently bred many poor ones. Predominantly American breeds (e.g. the Chessie and the Toller) are featured as well, but no mention of the Boykin or American Water Spaniel. Hounds, terriers, and dachshunds get their own section. His description of how the French countryside has changed (thus changing hunting and hunting dogs) will strike home with American who see the same things happening now on our continent. This book is a good read for American sporting dog enthusiasts, as the author's perspective and style is refreshing break from the "oh-so-careful-not-to-offend" style of most American gun dog writers.

Not just for the hunter.......2000-07-10

In the preface, the author writes that while not everyone likes a hunter, hunting dogs are very likeable. This is an excellent introduction to the sporting dog breeds. The text describes about 70 breeds, including some rare ones that have recently been introduced to North America, including the Braque du Bourbonnais, the French Spaniel, the Picardy Spaniel, and the Bracco Italiano. The photography is excellent. The author groups breeds according to their main function (pointer, retriever, spaniel, scenthound, and terrier) and organizes them by region of origin. For the pet-lover, who is looking for a companion dog, the description of hunting style is useful: Do you want a dog who will run way ahead of you and call back in a loud bay, or one who will stay close by your side? The book gives a lot of information on the evolution of gun-dog breeds, in some cases applauding the results (the Brittany is described as "perfect") and otherwise, complaining about breeders tainting the original breed with the introduction of dogs from outlying regions. One drawback of the book is that the author ignores the fact that hunters hunt only about four months out of the year, and the rest of the time they need to be able to live with their dogs. There is little information on how the various breeds are in the home: easy to housebreak? OK with pet cats? shed a lot? dig up the yard? drool? grooming needs? Another criticism is that the histories are not entirely accurate. For example, the author claims the Bourbonnais was re-created after becoming extinct (not exactly) and that today's white Spinoni are considered to be closer to the original breed than the brown roans (the opposite is true).

Book is geared towards kids - not too complicated. But at the same time a comprehensive and informative read. I enjoyed reading it as a parent. The book includes The history of money, how coins are made, History of American coins, collecting basics, and care of the collection.

Fabulous!.......2004-01-30

Being a long-time fan of Miss Dunaway, I bought this the day it was released and read it straight through when I got home. Frankly, I wasn't expecting much. I always got the impression she has no sense of humor, particularly about herself. I also figured she was writing this for the money, and it would be a typical take-the-money-and-run, say-nothing bland autobiography like most of the other celebrity junk that's out there. Boy was I wrong! While Miss Dunaway is certainly a very serious person, the book was pretty candid, the good and the bad, covering topics I didn't think she'd cover much like Mommie Dearest, Marcello Mastriani, her two marriages, etc. She covers it all pretty thoroughly and candidly. While this book is certainly not a "tell-all" or at the Shelley Winters level (thank goodness), it's pretty thorough. She also covers a lot of her early career, college, and her growing up in rural Florida, a lot of information you can't get from magazine articles or prior media materials about her. It was very, very well done, well written, and is obviously must-read material for any fan or someone interested in the premier actresses of her generation. You won't be disappointed. It also has some great photographs in the center section, and Terry O'Neill did the cover. Great stuff!

A lovely surprise.......2000-06-13

Not knowing quite what to expect, I was happy to read a very warm, candid story by an actor whose work I admire a great deal. As Dunaway told her story, I could not help but think that her body of work would stand side by side with those actors of her generation who are so glorified -- Beatty, Nicholson, et. al. That she is not appreciated in the same way as those actors explains her vulnerability all the more. After reading this book, I would definitely have her over for dinner.

Well-written, insightful and intelligent........1998-11-23

With startling honesty, Dunaway intimately details her fascinating life. The book does lapse into mild self-indulgence at times, but her introspection reveals an interesting mind. Her fierce determination and dedication is vividly depicted, hinting at the price she paid for stardom, as well as painting an interesting portrait of what it is to be a female actor of her calibre and over fifty in Hollywood today.

Faye Dunaway paints an impressionistic painting of her life.......1998-08-26

First of all, let me say that as "celebrity biographies" go, this is one of the better ones. Rather than produce a mere catalogue of people, places, and events, Faye Dunaway gives her readers impressionistic peeks into her life; her words are used like water-colored pastels to create a pleasing but not too controversial work. Although she overemphasizes pop-psychology explanations, Faye Dunaway still manages to bring her readers closer to Faye Dunaway the Woman and the Actress while chipping away at Faye Dunaway the Icon. It's a nice compliment to her work on film.

Poorly written, not revealing...and self-serving........1998-07-30

Faye Dunaway, a terrific actress, should, as they say, not quit her day job. Her book is poorly written and redundant, redundant, redundant! A superb technician on the stage, she paradoxically has a room-temperature IQ, to judge from this memoir. And her accounts of some parts of her life, such as the filming of Roman Polanski's Chinatown, are self-serving. It's too bad we never get beneath the veneer in this boring read.
