Strolling through France.......2001-02-11
Just an extraordinary and concise grouping of apparently easy hikes of short duration, the majority of which can be handled by anyone. Perhaps they make more sense if you have visited France before. The choice of areas is extensive and probably putting half a dozen together would make for a most interesting vacation. Extemely easy to read. Just hope the trails are still there - wasn't there some sort of EU protest recently about abandoning such trails? Better get going, soon!

Customer Reviews:
Seminar Empowerment in a Book.......2007-10-15
In general, people seem to have extreme reactions to Tony Robbins. This idea appears to be supported by the variations in the reviews of Awaken the Giant Within. Love him or hate him, he is arguably one of the greatest motivational speakers of all time. In line with that level of excellence, I believe this book has earned its place among the top self-help books ever written.
Like any other self-help book, whether you find this book useful or not depends on what you are looking for. One important thing to consider before buying/reading this book is whether you want to use it to improve your life or to help someone else. While the material can be used for both, it is primarily focused on creating change within yourself.
Compared to his first book, Unlimited Power, which focused heavily on Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) as developed by Richard Bandler and John Grinder, Awaken the Giant Within presents a similar method of creating change which he calls Neuro-Associative Conditioning (NAC).
The difference between the two approaches, however subtle, is powerfully important. As he says in the book, the term "programming" has an implication that once you've done an NLP pattern, such as a "swish" pattern (described in Unlimited Power), then it is logical to conclude that the change is programmed in permanently. Instead, he focuses on the importance of conditioning and reinforcing change. Just as one trip to the gym is unlikely to create a lifetime of physical fitness, creating and maintaining change requires consistent reinforcement and conditioning.
In essence, NAC and the material presented in this book are NLP for the masses. If you are interested in studying the more technical aspects of NLP, Bandler and Grinder's books would be a great place to start, beginning with Frogs into Princes: Neuro Linguistic Programming. Books by other authors such as Magic of NLP Demystified: A Pragmatic Guide to Communication & Change (Positive Change Guides) and NLP: The New Technology of Achievement provide a more comprehensive and systematic overview of basic NLP techniques.
Awaken the Giant Within is filled with inspirational stories combined with specific systems and strategies designed to create change. As Tony often says, knowledge is only potential power and only becomes power if you put it into action. If you decide to read this "seminar in a book," remember that it's the application of the information that creates the change.
Changed my life the day I started reating.......2007-10-09
This book is great. I was afraid it would be a lot of lame "You're special!" stuff. Instead Tony gives simple tools that change the way you think and react to emotions and events. I no longer dwell on unimportant small things and instead move forward toward greater things.
I have an older edition, I think from 1992, which was somewhat dated, since it has some humorous and ironic references to "Influential people like Michael Jackson" or the interesting story about a young kid who gave it is all that turned out to be "none other than OJ Simpson".
The exercises were quite helpful and enlightening, this book will make you understand yourself in a new way.
Good book from sketchy infomercial guy.......2007-09-21
First of all I do think this is a powerful book. This is due more to Tony Robbins ability to generate enthusiasm in the reader and his ability to organize already-published materials than it does with his own originality though.
I'm not the biggest Tony Robbins fan nowadays. I've heard him make too many ridiculous, unproven comments on his tapes to completely take him seriously. And his infomercial persona is hard to shake, but at the heart of it this is really powerful book for transformation just like he claims. It's mainly things he picked up from older self-help books and things like NLP but Tony does organize it in a usable fashion and really gets you pumped up to put some changes into effect.
I went through a hard time many years ago and this book helped me turn one of the worst experiences in my life into one of the most productive, so for that I will always have a soft spot for Tony and this book.
I do recommend staying away from his overpriced seminars though. Everything a smart and motivated person needs is already in this book. You do not need to pay a penny more to anyone over the cost of this book if you are serious about making life changes.
I'd also like to point out that this is a tighter, stronger book than his first one, and recommend a new person start here.
A Great Book That Never Claims to be Pure NLP.......2007-09-02
Awaken the Giant has it's place on bookshelves if for no other reason that it is a workable system to empower a person's entire life.
In doing this, Robbins has done an outstanding job to make change techniques applicable to the average person. His previous book, Unlimited Power, conveys Robbins' understanding of NLP and therefore can be claimed to be a book on the subject. The problem with Unlimited Power is that there countless books on NLP by much more reputable and learned authors than Robbins.
Awaken the Giant is a book that extends well past his first works and the way I see it, adds tremendous value to the field of positive psychology. How, I hear you mutter? Awaken the Giant, using NLP and conditioning techniques at its core, is a well thought out and cohesive system of change, rather than a collection of insights and techniques as many pure NLP books are. The book really focuses on taking control of your life and how to do it. It is not a book of fluffy half-theories and heart-warming anecdotes as most self help books are.
Awaken the Giant never claims to be a book on NLP, and, in fact, takes a main premise of NLP - you have all the resources inside you - and helps organise those resources so they work for you, not against you.
The book is a little long, and could have been a bit more concise, however, it is presented in a much user friendly way than Unlimited Power.
As an NLPer, I appreciate the outcome Robbins had in mind for this book - a whole system for the average person couldn't tell you the difference between a metaprogram and a submodality, but is probably frustrated with underachieving.
Real Results in the Real World.......2007-08-13
I bought this book 3 years ago. I was 35, selling cars, making less than $35,000 a year, fat, a smoker, and wondering where all the supposed "promise" I had ever went. I had a few good years in the past, but they were long gone. I didn't just read this book, I consumed it. Like Baptists read the Bible I read this book, and I started a success journal. Now, 3 years later. I work for myself (if you can call doing whatever I want work) and make $10,000 - $15,000 per month. I work out 6 days a week, I don't smoke, every relationship I have with everyone I love is 3x better than it ever has been.
I read "motivation", "self-help" and "how to succeed" books since I was 19 years old. And I did my best to follow them... not much happened in the end. This book, when Tony said "do this", I did it and there was an INSTANT change. Instant change after Instant change turned into the beginnings of a new life after 6 months, the taste of freedom after 18 months, and now unstoppable, unflappable, unimaginable success and happiness for a guy with a high school degree and never a penny in the bank before my next paycheck (until after Tony Robbins). Is this an unvarnished RAVE? You bet! I read this ONE book and applied it to my life. Now I have the life I always wanted.

Book Description
The wolves of Minnesota are one of conservation's greatest success stories. Of the 48 contiguous United States, only Minnesota-with a wolf population at an estimated 2,600-has managed to protect and sustain a viable wolf population over the past two decades. Today, the wolf is close to being removed from the federal government's endangered species list. But while some applaud the wolf's return, others worry about the human cultural costs of maintaining such a large population, and others wonder if that population is too high for the wolf's own good. Edited by renowned expert "wolfman" Dr. L. David Mech and comprising the work of several researchers who have studied Minnesota wolves, "The Wolves of Minnesota" is an authoritative account of the background of the wolf in Minnesota. It features the fascinating story of the comeback of the wolf in Minnesota and examines the cultural costs of the comeback of the animal, to the point where the question is not "Will we ever hear the howl of the wolf again?" but "How many howls are enough?" "The Wolves of Minnesota" examines the animal and its packs and populations, the past and present ranges of the species in Minnesota, the rich history of the scientific research about it, the biology of the wolf, the wolf's prey, wolf-human interactions, and the future of the wolf in Minnesota.
Customer Reviews:
Enthusiastically recommended for wolf lovers everywhere........2006-11-05
Edited by renowned wolf expert L. David Mech, The Wolves of Minnesota: Howl in the Heartland collects the expertise of individuals who have devoted themselves to studying Minnesota wolves, and presents the amazing true story of the wild Minnesota wolf's remarkable comeback. Gorgeous full-color photography on almost every page enhances this collection of essays that range from a summary of the wolf's life cycle and predator/prey habits to an in-depth discussion of managing the conflict between livestock owners who suffer from wolf depredations, wildlife supporters who have strong beliefs against allowing the killing of wolves, and government wolf control and compensation programs meant to chart an equitable middle ground. Enthusiastically recommended for wolf lovers everywhere.
Great pictures and good introductory text.......2006-11-05
In this book, the alpha male of wolf studies, David Mech, has collected contributions from other leading researchers on a variety of topics concerning wolf behavior, wolf-human conflicts, and wolf research and policy. It differs from other books on wolves in focusing very narrowly on the Minnesota population, with only occasional mention of connected metapopulations in Michigan, Ontario and Wisconsin.
The book is filled with beautiful pictures of wolves at all times of the Minnesota year - - winter, no longer winter, and getting to be winter. (These seasons are also known as "winter" and "road construction.") Jokes aside, the pictures are beautiful and well worth the modest price of the book.
The chapters provide a very helpful introduction to wolves, written at the classic tenth-grade reading level that we are all supposed to use for adults. They are accessible and informative, but wolf freaks won't find anything new.
I'd heartily recommend this book for every high school and public library in Minnesota, and also recommend it to others for the pictures. The text is good for a certain audience, which I hope I've described above, but not for other audiences.
Incredible Book.......2001-08-26
I recieved this book as a gift, and I was duly impressed by the stunning photography and loads of intriguing wolf information. I am also an avid wolf artist, and I use this book's color photography for reference quite often. Anyone who loves wolves and wild canids, Minnesotan or not, should read this book.

Make beautiful dollhouse furniture with this book.......2002-01-11
This book contains detailed scale patterns for dozens of 1:12 scale miniature furnishings and toys. Many are scaled replicas of antique furnishings which once stood in the Mott Family home. Others are designs for miniatures seen in their world famous Mott's Miniature Musuem in California.
In the front of the book is a handy guide which reviews hobby tools, woods and glues to use with miniature furniture projects. There is also a beginners section which covers some of the basic miniature wood carving techniques before you get into the projects. Advanced miniaturists can bypass this section.
In the back of the book are 6 pages of full color lithographs which are applied to some of the projects. The original artwork for this colorwork was hand drawn and hand colored by Barbara Mott.
This 1995 release is the second revised edition of the original book first released in 1978.
Wonderful to build furniature........1999-06-08
This book has very good instructions on how to build miniature furniature. The directions are real easy to follow and understand. I realy like the decals in the back of the book.

A former Miss America from Colorado tells the gripping story of her life as an incest survivor. A Colorado best seller in hardcover, new in pb.
Customer Reviews:
Miss America by Day: Lessons learned from Ultimate Betrayals and Unconditional Love.......2007-10-08
I have a friend that went through sexual abuse with your father and has been suffering from this all her life. It was good to read the book to be able to understand her better and also feel it would be a good book for those that have been sexually abused by their father or any other person. You realize that you are not alone and the book helps you to understand what you are going through and why you are feeling the way you do.
A gift to those who've suffered.......2007-09-15
I read the article in People Magazine when Marilyn Van Derbur first told the world she had been a victim of incest. I shuddered and literally sobbed because it triggered a new memory for me. I'd just learned a couple years earlier I, too, had been a victimized, and I was in the process of healing. When I read her book I could relate over and over again to what she'd been through. This is a must-read for victims who want to become (or already have become) VICTORS! Soar Unafraid: Learning to Trust No Matter What
Believing Our Children.......2007-04-02
Painful as this book was to read, as a mother and a massage therapist I found it invaluable. It gives not only a gripping and heart wrenching story, but also useful ways that we can protect our children from abuse. Incest is not what you think, it affects so many more people in so many more ways than I ever thought possible. Miss Van Derbur uses her own remarkable story with statistical facts that make it impossible for anyone to say 'it would never happen to my child'. I'm so grateful that someone recommended this book to me for my own awareness of how our bodies store trauma. I have told almost every mother I know about some of the shocking facts this book reveals. Most importantly, it reminds us to talk to our children and believe them when they tell us the truth!
Excellent resource .......2007-01-10
This is a great book for both rape survivors and those who love them. This book talks about the social stigma over survivors, how they are not the ones who should feel shame, but those who abused them, helping rape and incest survivors understand they can be proud of the people they are. It also makes a beautiful connection that it doesn't matter what someone did to you, if it was a word, a touch, a brutal attack, it is how that interaction made you feel, how it hurt your spirit. This book does not minimize what happened to you and how that made you feel. It is a guide with eye opening stats, and useful advice to help protect children along with conversation starters. Even if you do not know anyone who has had this life experience, but unfortunately we all do, this is a great read for everyone to be better educated to support someone or prevent others from being hurt. Please read this book.
This book gave me hope.......2006-07-20
If you - or someone you love - has been raped or sexually violated, read this book. It is a step by step guide to recovery.

Norma....do go on!.......2004-01-29
This is by far my favorite Marilyn book ever! There are so many photos, that you don't have to face that anxiety of looking at the last one! This is a several sitting book, even if you are just using it as a coffee table book..
Original Marilyn Angle - Worth Every Dollar........2001-07-24
If you can get this book, get it. Mr. Haspiel was a teenager when he met Marilyn and he stuck with her. His information is first hand, as opposed to authors who cash in on researched material. James Haspiel is the source writers went to for their magazine articles and such, and his book is wonderful. He even has pictures of Marilyn, proudly displayed, without make-up on.
MARILYN: THE ULTIMATE LOOK AT THE LEGEND.......2000-12-27
I found this book to be a very special one on Marilyn Monroe and her "platonic" relationship with a special fan/friend. This book spans an eight year relationship with the author. You get a "back-seat" view of how Monroe's personality was, whether it was happy, gloomy, or sad during their "friendship" period. I truly enjoyed reading this book. It should be considered a "must read" and "must have" copy for for all Monroe's fans' and buffs' libraries alike. As the previous reader stated, this book was written from a perspective of someone being very close to Miss Monroe; somewhat placing this as a "unique" and interesting bit of MM reading. Lastly, the author gives the reader a "touching" bit of his own soul, when he describes his very last meeting with Miss Monroe before leaving for California.
A candid account of the authors close frienship with MM.......1998-04-02
This book is a revealing account of Mr. Haspiels friendship/relationship with Marilyn Monroe ("Mazzie" as he affectionately calls her) during the last 8 years of her life. Not just another historical perspective of Miss Monroe's life, the book is written from the viewpoint of someone who was obviously quite close to Miss Monroe as the many photo's and documents substantiate. The candid revelations and thoughts concerning the author's and Miss Monroe's friendship is what makes this book unique. A highly recommended book especially for those interested in a more personal account of the life of Marilyn Monroe.

"Simply the BEST!".......2006-02-05
BRAVO! and BRAVO! again. I read it a long time ago, when it was just published, and have learned a lot about Marilyn Monroe through this great author's knowledge. A treasure for the reader who is looking for true facts and not like fiction "a la'June DiMaggio & Co! Perfect also for fans who want to do their own private Marilyn Monroe and visit places where she lived and worked. Wonderful!!!

"The people made me a star." Marilyn.......2004-07-07
This is a very good effort of pullimg together many facts about Marilyn. Her movies, books friends, photographers, lovers, fan clubs, web sites,etc.,etc.It is a very good collection of information and as a reference book ,very handy to have for further reading about her and her career.
It does not, however;shed any real light on Marilyn herself;but tells you where to find just about anything that is available about her.
There is very little depth about anything covered in the book;but taking it for what was intended; a collection of information,it is very good. The photos are poorly chosen and even more poorly printed;except for the cover. But then again, this is not a photo album, but does reference the many excellent ones that have been published.
It is not a biography;it is a reference book.
If one were to looking for one book to read on Marilyn and her career;this would not be the one to get. However; if you've seen most of her movies, read several books on her and been treated to a few of the excellent photo books;you'd probably find this book very valuable.Anyway, that's my take on this book.
The Ultimate Marilyn.......2000-02-28
This is such a good book. I had a report on Marilyn Monroe and this helped out so much! This had pictures which were beautiful pictures. Some things that were in this book were family, friends, husbands, lovers, teachers, mentors, rivals, enemies, agents, publicists, studio heads, producers, directors, writers, photographers, costume designers, gossip, scandals, innuendo, intrigues, threats, rumors, conspiracy theories, murder or suicide, books, biographies, movies, stage plays, songs, imitators, impersonators, worshippers, detractors, fan clubs, web sites, and much more!
I found this biography to be dull and boring to read........1999-10-18
The Ultimate Marilyn is a biography which is filled with information. It has facts, myths, and theories. However, it is also boring to read. Unlike most Marilyn biographies which I have read, it is not set up like a story. It merely has short blurbs on each aspect of her life.
one of the top 10 books on Monroe--Cunningham really does it.......1999-08-07
The book market is flooded with Monroe works, as everyone knows. However, there are several "must have" volumes, and Ernest Cunningham's work is definitely on that list. The book provides the reader with a wealth of information, divided into easily understood sections which, in turn, will lead the reader to virtually every book ever printed dealing with this screen goddess. Cunningham's research is both broad and impeccable, not duplicated anywhere else on the market. His writing is clean and clear with a tongue-in-cheek touch that is entertaining while also being informative. This book is truly "essential" for any Monroe fan or collector and would also be of high interest for the less devoted who simly want to know a bit more about the "why" and "how" of the Monroe legend.

Worth it for the photos you haven't seen........2006-10-03
This book was a wedding gift, and I can't put it down! This unusually shaped heavy-stock paperback book (the book is short, but very thick). has plenty of high-quality photography throughout. This is a must-buy for any Marilyn fan, because these aren't the same old Life mag shots you see everywhere. Evans' collection shows her every dimension, through the movies, the marriages, her private side and her star power. This covers her forgotton interviews, and provides actual dates for the photos, which is nice, because Marilyn did a lot of press in her 36 years, and it is nice to know how they fit in the timeline of her life. Marilyn's potato sack photo was the first thing to catch my eye thumbing through (see page 73). Fun book!

Customer Reviews:
can't use it!.......2007-04-05
I received the 2006-2007 calendar in march 2007. I expected to receive the 2007-2008 version. With only three month's left on it, I could not use it and returned it. I spent about $10.00 dollars in shipping charges that are not reimbursed. I was very disappointed to receive an old calendar.
Comprehensive informative and a good value .......2006-01-19

Bernard Shaw: Volume III: 1918-1950: The Lure of Fantasy (Bernard Shaw)

Book Description
When Michael Holroyd's multivolume life of Bernard Shaw was published, it was hailed as a masterpiece, and William Golding predicted that it would take its place "among the great biographies." Now the biography is available for the first time in a lively and accessible abridgment by the author. This is the quintessence of Shaw. The narrative has a new verve and pace, and the light and shade of Shaw's world are more dramatically revealed as Holroyd counterpoints the private and public Shaw with inimitable insight and scholarship.
Playwright, wit, socialist, polemicist, vegetarian, and irresistible charmer, Bernard Shaw was the most controversial literary figure of his age, the scourge of Victorian values and middle-class pretensions. Born in Dublin in 1856, he grew up there, a lonely child in an unsettling ménage à trois. His father, George Carr Shaw, had turned to drink, and his mother was muse to a Svengali-like music teacher whom she followed to London. The young Shaw, anxious to escape his heritage, also left for London to reinvent himself as the legendary G.B.S.--novelist, lover, politician, music critic, and finally playwright. From his first passionate affair with a beautiful middle-aged widow, he moved on to flirtations and liaisons with young actresses and socialists before finally settling into marriage in 1898.
At the turn of the century, Shaw was in his prime, a theatrical impresario and author of those great campaigning plays--Man and Superman, Major Barbara, The Doctor's Dilemma, and John Bull's Other Island--that used laughter as an anesthetic for the operation he performed on British society. By 1914 the author of Pygmalion was the most popular writer in England, and increasingly recognized throughout Europe and America. Though ready with advice to others on how to stay married, he fell painfully in love with two of the most dazzling actresses of the age, Ellen Terry and Mrs. Patrick Campbell.
The reluctant recipient of a Nobel Prize for literature and an Academy Award for his screenplay for Pygmalion, Shaw became an international icon between the two world wars, feted from China and Soviet Russia to India and New Zealand, though still contriving to provoke the establishment in the United States, South Africa, and Ireland. In old age he was vigorous and prolific, espousing many new and quixotic causes. He revealed himself increasingly as conjurer, fabulist, and seer through his powerful late works, including Saint Joan, the Chekhovian Heartbreak House, the modernist fantasy Back to Methuselah, and the imaginative dream plays and political extravaganzas.
Covering almost a century, from 1856 to 1950, this unparalleled life of Shaw presents the magnificent double portrait of an age and of a man who was born fifty years too soon. Holroyd magically captures the essence of Shaw's protean genius in a tragicomedy that
