Customer Reviews:
Basic, simple, easy and practical tutorial guide........2007-08-11
This book is a tutorial for business flowcharting. This is not a reference book, it is a tutorial; as such it has lot of repetitions and exercises to be sure you learn why and how to create useful flowcharts. If you are a computer programmer, don't get this book, as it does not cover that kind of flowcharts. But if you are a manager, planner, medical doctor (this is a good guide to develop flowcharts for clinical guidelines), or technical writer and you have never created flowcharts before, get this book.
This book cover four flowcharts: basic, detailed, opportunity and deployment charts. They may have other names in other books or softwares but they are the most common types used in the business environment.
The book does NOT cover the usage of any flowcharting software; after reading this you will be able to do it with any software or just with a pencil and paper. The book is about the why, when and how, not about using some software.
The book is pretty easy to read; I think even a child can learn from this book without any problem.
Also, with the book are included some flowcharting paper templates so you can make photocopies and practice.
Very Plain and Simple!.......2007-06-15
This thin book provides the basics of flowcharting basics for a very reasonable price without needing to trawl through the internet to find it.
If you know how to draw basic flow charts in applications like Visio and other MS Office tools, it's likely you will find that you will not get anything out of this book.
This book is designed for someone who is completely new to flow charting, or for someone who needs to teach this skill to others.
What I would have like to have seen is an additional section describing the different standards used in flowcharting and a list of common tools that are available.
While most of the information can be found online for free, it is nice to have it printed in one spot.
Simple yet very useful.......2003-07-24
There's almost no reference on the market today about flowcharting basics and their usage for different purposes. Since the basic information is vital for whom plan to begin process mapping, this book is a very good beginning to understand and teach the team the flowcharting basics and different types of flowcharts which can be selected according to your needs. Examples and hints are also very useful.

Book Description
A beautifully illustrated book on the life and message of Sri Ramana Maharshi, an Indian saint of recent times, Timeless in Time explores the life of this beloved holy man.
Customer Reviews:
The best biography of Ramana.......2007-04-03
Ramana's biography is a must read for any serious student of Advaita (Non-dualism). There are many biographies of Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi, the famous twentieth century saint. Among these this book is the best, I think, for the following reasons:
1. It is neither too short nor too long. The editors took the Indian edition of 'Timeless in Time' and deleted some non-essential items, particularly those pertaining to his devotees. It retains all the key facts pertaining to the life of Maharshi.
2. It has many pictures, both color and black and white, some of which are published for the first time.
3. It also contains his key teachings and sayings. All of Ramana's quotes are in red color (as opposed to black color for the rest of the text). This facilitates clear identification of Ramana's quotes.
4. The paper and print quality of the book are excellent. The publishers, World Wisdom, deserve praise for this work. Each page exhibits the devotion and dedication of the World Wisdom staff involved in this publication. There is a printed design in each page, which is very beautiful. It deserves to be called a 'collector's edition'.
For anyone new to Ramana, I would recommend this book both as an interesting study of his life and also as an introduction to his teachings. Another 'must-read' book to follow up on this is "The Collected Works of Sri Ramana Maharshi".
Celebrates his life and teachings and makes for a solid introduction for newcomers.......2006-07-09
Sri Ramana Maharshi's Timeless In Time blends the autobiographical statements of Sri Ramana Maharshi with his teachings and biographical background details by A.R. Natarajan, gathered from direct sources, pairing all this with over a hundred photos and a glossary of Hindu terms to provide an outstanding survey of one of the greatest Hindu sages of our times. Maharshi was known for his simple approach in leading people to spiritual realization and for his peaceful presence: Timeless In Time celebrates his life and teachings and makes for a solid introduction for newcomers.
Book Description
The simple and direct teachings of Ramana, which are covered in this Book, and which open the flood-gates of joy are perhaps important reasons for Ramana's timelessness.Truth has been made so easily accessible,so unbelievably close,so experientially possible for each and every one that the fascination of Ramana's teachings is irresistable.
Over the past several decades we have acquired vast, varied and authentic material about Ramana. These were not available or could not be used by earlier biographers. It is now nearly seventy years since the first biography was written. There is need for new insights and perspectives as there is a growing awareness of the power of Ramana's presence. One is able to relate more directly to him.Readers in the new millineum need to savour and enjoy the sweetness of the fresh discoveries and new material which has sunfolded since then.
Ramana's beauty beggars all descriptions. To highlight this more than one hundred illustrations have been included to enhance the artistic beauty of the presentation.

Woodham presents the timeless wisdom of the Gita in contemporary English Poetry, bringing to life its ancient yet perennially applicable message.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent.......2005-11-11
One reviewer here seems to have forgotten that the original Sanskrit text rhymed, so to render it into rhyme in English is, in my opinion, clever.
As one who owns many translations of the Gita myself, I must say that this is the most readable. Past efforts to translate the Sanskrit into English have given us stilted, stiff and confusing text. Though I love Prabupada and consider myself a fringe devotee, even HIS translation can be, well, tedious to read, especially some of the overlong purports.
This Gita just grooves along, painting a much clearer picture of the conversation between Sri Krishna and Arjuna and the situation in which it is framed. Recommended, especially if you want to read to kids.
Rhyming and rappin' Gita.......2004-05-16
When I first picked up this book to preview it, I'd flip through it and would read individual lines in each chapter. The lines seemed clear in isolation. (I have a number of Gita translations). But after I bought this and read it from the start, I realized every last word on each line rhymes with every last word on the next line or, every 2 lines rhymes on the last word. Examples from the book: nonviolence-science, clean-serene, life-wife, attitude-solitude, truth-aloof, souls-control, etc.. Obviously they aren't all perfect rhymes but all the verses are manipulated to make a rhyme or near rhyme no matter what it takes. I'll admit the author doesn't go too far astray of topic to do this but does take definite liberties to make the rhymes work. As I read, I found myself boppin' my head like I was reading an elementary nursery rhyme. It sounds like the Munchkins of Munchinkin Land on the Wizard of Oz who always had to speak and or sing in rhyme; hardly a dignified Gita translation. It's distracting me. I found myself concentrating on following a rhythm rather than trying to understand the meaning of the words. I should have looked closer before purchasing and I threw away my reciept so I'm a little upset, (relatively speaking on the level of the gunas or on the level where I think I'm a doer that is). I thought I was getting an easy to read translation but instead got a rappin', hand clapping, foot tappin', head boppin, finger snappin, head bangin, i'm down on the street and I got the beat how now brown cow. It's throwing me off...hoe down. As other reviewers have said perhaps this is meant for children or those who wouldn't read the gita otherwise. If you don't mind boppin' along with the gita than fine. Just know what you're getting.
Only poetry book I ever liked........2002-03-16
I am 17 and didn't exaclty find poetry of much interest to me till I read Bhagavad Gita THE SONG DIVINE. I recommend this book for anyone who likes to read, it is a pleasent addition to ones library or backpack (if you are a student like me).
sincerly,
Harry Jaganath.
A portable, poetic Gita.......2001-07-03
This is an edition of the Gita unlike any I've seen. At first the poetic approach caught me off guard, but when I read a bit I found it very entertaining. The discipline of the meter and rhyme brings the verses into a 'sutra' (nutshell) form, and considering the involved subject matter, the writer does it very well.
The interpretation strongly favors the personal God, clearly the proper and most illuminating view of the Bhagavad-gita.
For me this compact, enjoyable, and uplifting book is a perfect companion on long trips.
Entertaining, easy access to the Gita.......2001-06-22
This book is a real treasure! Its rhyming verses make the Gita fun to read, especially out loud with friends or family. I've found my kids are very attracted to it, whereas the more philosophical versions seem boring to them. (Mitchell's version was a complete dud!) The verses tell the complete story of this important and instructive meeting between Krishna and Arjuna, condensing it without leaving out anything essential. The profound spiritual messages of the Gita come through loud and clear, yet Woodham's brilliant couplets make it palatable even to those whose interest in spirituality isn't very strong. This is just the kind of book I'll love to give as a gift to young people, old friends, relatives of all ages---even myself! The price is right, and it's very attractively put together. That combined with its entertainment factor makes this a highly recommended choice.

The Mystical Pilgrimage with a message of Equality.......2001-11-24
I had read this book some time back.I have read books on a similar subject by the following:-
Pilgrimage to Sabrimala-K.R.Vaidyanathan-probably a journalist as he has a rambling style.Yes there is a lot of information but very anecdotal.
Aiyappa Cult and its Mysticisim-Lars Kjaer Holm-Anthrolopolgy.
He has a very socially scientific process of covering a cult.
This book by srikant is really a Message to all.It is a brilliant effort to get into and explain to laymen the quintessential of Lord Aiyappa's worship and its egalitarian approach.
This book was a literal page turner but with a lot of thought being provoked.(...)

jeff chandler: between the pages.......2007-06-27
jeff chandler, actor of many motion pictures some 40 years ago, died before his time & before he explored all of his overt & hidden talents. this broad sweeping book covers his early childhood in brooklyn, ny and proves the old adage that we are indeed the sum of all that comes before us. through the pages of this well-researched book, the author traces mr. chandler's life, his take on his co-stars, directors, locations but most of all his private life and how you can't have both: a successful career and a marriage that is a success. personal & private life often gets strained & sometimes fractured. his was no different.
This book isn't even close.......2005-12-29
I had a very close friendship with Jeff's youngest daughter Dana Chandler Grossel and years back we had planned to collaborate on a work about her father, something that wouldn't sensationalize, but rather humanize the Jeff Chandler people thought they knew, but really didn't. Sadly Dana and I could never write the book because she became ill and I am glad we didn't because the public really doesn't have a right to know about the "real" personal life of this man and his family.
Honestly, the best source of info about Jeff Chandler was from his daughters Dana and Jamie who sadly, both died of cancer within a year of one another. Dana and I talked for hours about her father, I know things about him that no one on this earth except his late daughters and wife knew, and I will never divulge them.
What I will say is this, he was a good man and a loving father and that means more than anything else anyone could ever say about him. Some "fans" go to the extreme, either making him out to be a saint, or making him out to be a freak. He was neither. None of those worshipping fans out there could EVER write a book that would do Jeff or his family justice.
Jeff Chandler - the star and the man........2004-12-21
This book is written by a big fan of his. That is fine. I had wished for a more seasoned writer to tackle this complex man.But this book will register with any true Chandler fan. I remember as a young kid viewing Chocise and then his movie Away All Boats.I have seen all of his movies and they mostly hold up today as few stars do.He was at universal during the early fifties - gaining fame with Hudson, and Curtis. He was one of the few actors that helped his actresses look so good. Ladies such as : Crawford and Novack and Turner.
This man was a good man - with a sad ending. His last film was Merrills Mauraders and he was very good as the war wearing and sick general.I wish the author concentrated more on this. It would have been a better book if she interviewed some of his friends and children more extensively- which she did not.
By the way the utter baloney of what Esther Williams wrote is liable, wrong and sick. She was NOT a close friend of his, is suffering from alzheimers and his close friend Sheila Mccrae confirms this.
I know where I speak.Jeff Chandler was my Uncle!!!!!
Finally a Jeff Chandler bio -- The Ecstasy and the Agony.......2003-08-03
Rarely has a book inspired such intensely mixed feelings in me. For years I wanted to know more about the life and career of Jeff Chandler, who was intriguing in so many ways--a handsome, prematurely grey, Jewish leading man who played almost everything but Jews, a good-looking man in an offbeat way, scarred from a motor accident, a man revered for his friendship and loyalty, who offered his own eye when his friend Sammy Davis was in danger of losing both his own, and a tough guy who died far too young from medical misadventure. So despite grave misgivings when I saw that this new book was a vanity publication (i.e., published by financial arrangement by the author rather than being chosen for publication based on its merits), I leapt at the chance to read it. And indeed it answered, and elaborated on the answers to, many questions and curiosities I'd had about Chandler. There is much herein that is interesting to read about his early life, his accidents, his friendships, and in particular his demise. But there is a HUGE caveat: Marilyn Kirk is a fan and, despite her bio blurb, apparently not a professional writer. Now neither of these factors prevent anyone from producing a fine book. But this is not a fine book. As books go, it is not even a good one. The author's style is nonexistent, beyond a fulsome adoration of her subject. Chronology is so utterly dispensed with that it becomes nigh impossible to keep facts straight, as the author jumps willy-nilly through Chandler's life, almost giving the surreal impression that the events of that life occurred all at the same time. A chapter about Chandler's boyhood will have long passages about his funeral, or some other event from much later, not because the jump in time improves our understanding of the boyhood event, but apparently because the author simply flew off on a tangent. Similarly, the author bounces from calling Chandler "Jeff" to using his birth name "Ira" and back again, to the point of disorienting even the well-informed reader. The book suffers also from the worshipful, non-critical fan's point of view. The barest lip service is paid to the idea that Chandler might not have been a saint, and controversial aspects of his nature and rumors that might to some seem shameful are studiously avoided. Worst offense of all, though, for anyone expecting to read the truth about a subject is not the absence of critical analysis of the man and his work, nor the jumbled syntax and timelines, but the overwhelming reliance on fan magazines as a primary source of information. Fan magazine stories, as every serious student of film history knows, were concocted extensively by studio publicity people or by their lackeys at the magazine and can never be relied upon as source of factual information. Yet author Kirk cites 55 publications in her bibliography, 75% of which are fan magazines. And her notes indicate that the other, comparatively reliable, publications used as sources (the L.A. Times, Chicago Tribune, etc.) were cited almost exclusively as regards Chandler's illness, death, and the subsequent investigation. The conclusion is unavoidable that virtually everything preceding that portion of her book is based most extensively on the completely unreliable material in fan magazines. Indeed, Kirk herself lists nearly seven pages of fan magazine articles, calling them "a very useful source of information on the life of Jeff Chandler."
In the end, it is not my intent to denigrate the effort Kirk has put into this book, nor the devotion she obviously holds for her subject. I've written biographies and I know how difficult the task is to complete one at all, let alone well. And truth be told, even knowing what I know about this book, if I had it to do over again, I would buy and read the book, such is my interest in the subject. But though this is the only biography of Jeff Chandler in print (and very likely the only one that will ever be), it is not the definitive biography, nor is it a reliable or well-written one. It serves to whet the appetite for a real book by someone who knows how to research and organize, who has stylistic skills and a critically subjective point of view, and who isn't afraid someone might not like the guy she's writing about. And if ever there were a warning about the mixed-blessings of print-on-demand vanity pressings, this is it. A good-sized book on an interesting but probably not very commercial subject got published. But it misleads those uninformed enough to believe anything published must be good, and it disappoints those who hoped for something of note. And even if you know your film history, the knot of truth and flack-generated fancy presented here is impossible to untangle. It's a pity.

But it misleads those uninformed enough to believe anything published must be good, and it disappoints those who hoped for something of note. And even if you know your film history, the knot of truth and flack-generated fancy presented here is impossible to untangle. It's a pity.

Book Description
Ruggedly handsome Jeff Chandler won over fans with his versatile acting in film, television, radio, and theatre. He was particularly respected for his roles in Westerns. Chandler got an Oscar nomination in 1950 for Broken Arrow, was involved in the production of 27 box-office champions, and worked with such stars as Orson Welles, Susan Hayward, and James Stewart.
First, a biography covers Chandler's life: his birth in 1918; WWII service; the start of his radio career in 1946; his first film role soon after; and his success as a recording artist, song-writer, and owner of "Chandler Music;" his death in 1961 and the subsequent malpractice suit filed by his family. The work then covers his 54 films from The Invisible Wall (1947) to Merrill's Marauders (1962). Each chronologically arranged entry provides the studio name, month and year of release, the ad line, alternate titles, running times, format, genre, ratings, cast and crew credits, and a synopsis, plus such information as behind-the-scenes details and additional comments, review extracts, and quotes from Chandler and others about the film. A section on music and spoken word follows, listing all credits and statistics as above, plus program notes and quotes from Chandler. The radio section gives the program and episode name, date, episode number, and credits. The next section lists television appearances with the same information as in the film section.
Chandler's play (The Trojan Horse) with the troupe, dates, number of performances, cast and crew, synopsis and additional comments, is described last. A full bibliography concludes the work, which is illustrated with personal and professional photographs.

Jeff Chandler - The Forgotten Hollywood Star.......2006-07-15
Jeff Wells has done an admirable job of putting together a well researched and nicely written book - however this is a compact book - it is not a typical biography. Wells has split the book into a brief and very straight forward biography, then there are sections on Chandlers' films, his work on the radio, random appearances on television and a synopsis of Chandler's music.
If a reader didn't know anything about Jeff Chandler, this would be the book to recommend. This is a quick read but there is a lot of solid information regarding Chandler's film and radio career in Hollywood.
For those in the know about who Jeff Chandler was and what films he was in, this is not entirely satisfactory read - basically the book reads like a blue print - the author doesn't allow his voice to emerge and it feels like Wells may not have viewed all of Chandlers' films - missing from this book is an analysis of Chandler's performances. Basically, Jeff Chandler was the king of the B's and most unfortunately, Chandler didn't always have the right co-star or director. Chandler worked mostly in Westerns, War Films or the obligatory "Swords & Sandals" (with the exception of Sinatra, it seems every leading man got stuck in one of these 1950's oddities) - once in a great while, Chandler would be found in a contemporary piece - not often enough.
For instance, a film like "A Stranger In My Arms" - this is a great story with some very good actors (Mary Astor, June Allyson, Charles Coburn, Sandra Dee) However, there is no chemistry between Chandler and his leading lady, June Allyson and the film was shot in black and white when it should have been in glorious technicolor. Produced by Ross Hunter it surprising lacks any real passion from the leading man and woman - the best stuff in the film is Chandler and Sandra Dee haming it up in bar scene. See this film for the fine performances of the supporting players. With the right leading lady, it could have been a nice film for Chandler.
Unfortunately, Wells does not try to examine Esther Williams' nasty claims about Jeff Chandler and cross dressing. Also, the biography section ends in 1961 when Jeff Chandler passes away.
In 2003, Marilyn Kirk "self published" a book on Jeff Chander - basically her book is a horror show; mistakes, quoting from old movie magazines (the least reliable source of information) and the book is in desparate need of a good editor but overall Marilyn Kirk is a huge fan of Chandler and between the lines of her poorly written & somewhat delusional book there is a great passion for Chandler.
After reading Well's book on Chandler - just a little touch of that passion would have been welcomed. All in all, Wells has created his version of "the dummy's guide to Jeff Chandler" BUT it doesn't make it a bad book. Laura Wagner, book reviewer for great movie buff zine "Classic Images" gave Well's book a poor review which wasn't deserved.
Essentially, this book is like a pebble skimming across a very large pond. Jeff Wells has created an excellent research tool on Jeff Chandler, at least the essence of Chandler's work has been cataloged and because of Wells, someone who can really write a biography will come along for the late and much forgotten, Mr. Jeff Chandler.

Book Description
Thomas Davis (1814-1845) was a leading figure in the `Young Ireland' movement of the 1840s. With Charles Gavan Duffy and John Blake Dillon, he created the influential weekly newspaper "Nation" in an effort to support Daniel O'Connell's campaign to repeal the Act of Union. A man of great political and literary promise, he died at only thirty-one; his early death left many questions unanswered about his thoughts and aspirations. His first biography, written by his friend and collaborator Duffy, was published in 1890, and is an invaluable source for Davis's life and his part in the Irish nationalist struggle. Duffy's work was as well a eulogy, presenting Davis in so favorable a light that he seems at times unreal. To provide a more thorough, objective portrait of Davis, respected historian Helen F. Mulvey here presents a scholarly examination of Davis's life and thoughts.
Throughout this engaging narrative, Mulvey covers the principal events of Davis's life and work, discusses his role in the evolution of Irish nationalism, and reveals his importance to generations of nationalists. Mulvey pays particular attention to his motivations, ideas, interests, friendships, and inconsistencies. A man of many talents, Davis might have become a lawyer, an historian of Ireland, a writer of historical fiction, or a champion of various public causes, political or social. He was a man of moderation, however, flexible and intelligent about ends and means. His gifts for friendship, his grace of manner drew people to him and marked him out as a natural leader. Even his political opponents admired him.
With the perspective of time and recent research in Irish history, Mulvey offers a unique look at the vision Davis had for his country. She concludes that Davis's nationalism was essentially of a constitutional kind, and that he would have given no support to the violence that has prevailed in the last twenty-five years.
