Compact and informative.......2006-12-14
While this guide isn't bursting with information about each plant, it offers a quick guide to many of the trees and wildflowers that one is likely to find in Virginia.
The guide is long and thin shaped with only a few pages. It's made of coated thick paper (or if you prefer, thin cardboard).

Customer Reviews:
Love the title............2007-10-17
I have been using that line for years..."Hope is not a strategy" I recently purchased this book on a longgggg layover at SFO. (It was time well spent) You would be amazed at how many salespeople go into a sales call without a strategy or work on a deal for months to realize they are not at "Power" The principles in this book are truly a "Field Guide" to successful solution selling, and will save you many hours of on the Job training.
Happy Selling!
Hope is Not a Strategy.......2007-05-07
What great insight into the real world of complex decision-making. I now see in such complex sales that the process is to work with the client on the larger issues, not wait until an RFP is done -- because you are then too late. Well worth the time to read.
great book!.......2007-01-28
there r a lot of sales books. but this book deal with B2B and hi-tech sales. very clear, describe the situation well and improve the performance. it's a must to all sales, marketing and marcom managers of hi-tech companies.
The best book on the complex sale I've read.......2007-01-16
This book hits the nail right on the head regarding the complex sale process and what it takes to be successful in a complex selling situation. Like all selling books, it starts a little slow and dwells in obvious theory for the first 4-5 chapters and has a system named with an acronym. But those flaws aside, the last two-thirds of this book has some absolutely great selling concepts. I bought this book for the ten sales reps who report to me, and a lot of the terminology in the book has found its way into our daily vernacular. I firmly believe if you follow the concepts in this book faithfully, success in complex selling is much more likely than using any other selling concepts that I've seen.
Hopeful Strategy.......2006-11-15
Well...at the end of the day there IS a little hope involved, but if you did not work the strategy in this book for your complex sale, hope is all you got. When you are on the complex sale, you have this book and Mahan Khalsa's approach that blend together for a neat toolkit. I've had the opportunity to be part of a presentation from one of the principals at The Complex Sale and saw the tools in this book in action. Happy Selling & Good Luck!

Book Description
There is a fantastic array of vegetables you can grow in your garden, and not all of them are annuals. In Perennial Vegetables the adventurous gardener will find information, tips, and sound advice on less common edibles that will make any garden a perpetual, low-maintenance source of food.
Imagine growing vegetables that require just about the same amount of care as the flowers in your perennial beds and bordersno annual tilling and potting and planting. They thrive and produce abundant and nutritious crops throughout the season. It sounds too good to be true, but in Perennial Vegetables author and plant specialist Eric Toensmeier (Edible Forest Gardens) introduces gardeners to a world of little-known and wholly underappreciated plants. Ranging beyond the usual suspects (asparagus, rhubarb, and artichoke) to include such minor crops as ground cherry and ramps (both of which have found their way onto exclusive restaurant menus) and the much sought after, anti-oxidant-rich wolfberry (also known as goji berries), Toensmeier explains how to raise, tend, harvest, and cook with plants that yield great crops and satisfaction.
Perennial vegetables are perfect as part of an edible landscape plan or permaculture garden. Profiling more than 100 species, illustrated with dozens of color photographs and illustrations, and filled with valuable growing tips, recipes, and resources, Perennial Vegetables is a groundbreaking and ground-healing book that will open the eyes of gardeners everywhere to the exciting world of edible perennials.
Customer Reviews:
Very useful book - highly recommended........2007-07-27
I very seldom buy new books, and even more seldom buy books as expensive as this. But I had a $25 Amazon gift certificate, so I went ahead and bought it, and I'm very glad I did.
The first section of the book is useful information on growing perennial vegetables (and other perennials, for that matter), and on landscaping using these plants, many of which have great ornamental value.
Part Two is a listing of each of the more than 100 (I didn't count) perennial vegtables, with information on each species. About half the listed plants have quite extensive growing information, and about half have shorter descriptions. A map is included for each species, showing where it will grow as a perennial and where it can be grown as an annual. Toensmeier has not included plant 'thugs' such as kudzu or Japanese knotweed, and warns the reader if any of the other plants may naturalize.
The author's inclusions of certain species (as vegetables) may be slightly questionable: we are more apt to think of them as fruit or as herbs, for example, rhubarb and lovage. (However, my daughter cooks a lot of Persian food, and uses rhubarb as a vegetable in a meat and vegetable stew.) Also, this book will be of even more use to people who live in a warmer climate than I do (northern Pennsylvania in the mountains, with Zone 4 weather). I actually already grow four of the vegetables in the book: rhubarb, lovage, Good King Henry, and sorrel. I discovered some others that I'll definitely try - two of which I had never even heard of before. Those who live considerably further south than I will find a wealth of species to try.
The book is well written, and carefully edited. It includes a list of recommended reading, a list of recommended web sites, a list of sources for seeds and plants, a list of sources for garden supplies and equipment, a bibliography, an index by both scientific and common names, and a really valuable list of perennial vegetables that will grow in each of the various climate types in the USA (including Hawaii).
If you're at all interested in growing perennial vegetables - or in permaculture in general - I think you'll want to read this book and probably to own it. I think it's a very useful book and a pleasure to read. I recommend it most highly.

Book Description
This important work is an historical study of the Islamic writings in Spanish and Aljamiado (Spanish in Arabic script) of the Muslim minorities in medieval Christian Spain, the Mudejars and Moriscos. On the basis of both Christian sources, such as archival documents and the writings of John of Segovia, and Islamic sources in Spanish and Arabic, this book focuses on the life and writings of Yca Gidelli (ca 1450), religious authority of the Mudejar community of Segovia (Castile). Of crucial importance for the history of Islamic Spanish literature, Yca's best-known work is a Spanish translation of the Qurcan made at the request of bishop John of Segovia (d. 1458). This study follows the early history of Islamic writings in the vernacular (13th-14th centuries), continues with a description of Yca's writings and biography, and finally deals with his influence on Moriscos in the 16th and 17th centuries.

A must-read for anyone interested in history of the Moriscos, Aljamiado or the Spanish language in general........2007-06-01

I humbly begin my comments on this extraordinary and extraordinarily relevant work; the author has demonstrated such a level of insight and I would say genius in his brilliant analysis of the life and times of the hitherto obscure Yca de Segovia (whose actual name the author asserts quite probably was 'Isa Ash-Shadhilli), a brilliant Mudejar "alfaqui" (Moorish Islamic scholar)of Segovia, Castille, living under the Reconquista. Absolutely a must-read for anyone interested in the history of the Moriscos, their forgotten genius and legacy, and the Spanish language in general. The author brilliantly reconstitutes the life and works of the alfaqui 'Isa, how he most likely provided the Mudejars and soon-to-be Moriscos with the first translation/rendering of the (Arabic) Holy Qur'an into Castellano Spanish [one of the earliest ever renderings of the Holy Qur'an into any language?], and the tremendous implications that this work, as well as his compilation of works such as the Breviario Sunni (a Maliki fiqh book), had on their religious life. The author wrote his works in the now-dead "Aljamia" language (Romance written in the Arabic alphabet), which was similar to the Ladino of the Iberian Jews.
In my humble opinion (as a humble lay-person!), this is scholastic work of the highest order. The author painstakingly reconstructs the abovementioned works for which there is very little extant information available, and in doing so has created a work which is invigoratingly interesting and at the same time extraordinarily relevant to the student of Morisco history and Muslim minority history in general. Five emphatic stars!

Book Description
Although Homosexual Desire, first published in French in 1972 and in English in 1978, has become a classic in gay male theory, no full-length study of its author, Guy Hocquenghem, has been available in English until now. From the rise of the international gay liberation movement of the late 1960s to Hocquenghem’s AIDS-related death in 1988, Bill Marshall discusses the arguments and impact of Hocquenghem’s theoretical and political work while situating this work in its biographical, historical, and intellectual contexts.
Marshall explores all aspects of Hocquenghem’s writing—journalistic, theoretical, and fictional—much of this work still untranslated. His consideration reaches beyond the aftermath of the events of May 1968 and points toward the ways in which Hocquenghem’s work might invigorate contemporary debates on a range of issues in Marxist and queer theory and in gay, lesbian, and cultural studies. These include the construction of homosexuality in social discourse, the status of "identity politics," and the role of the state and civil society in the determination of each. Demonstrating Hocquenghem’s importance within the framework of French leftist thought, Marshall links him to his contemporaries Foucault, Deleuze, and Guattari. Tracing his connections to the intellectual traditions of Benjamin, Diderot, Fourier, Lucretius, and Gnosticism, he also illustrates Hocquenghem’s place within the European intellectual tradition.Guy Hocquenghem brings an important, challenging, and overly neglected French theorist back to the main stage.
