A fantastic resource.......2006-05-23
My husband and I took this with us on our honeymoon to Cozemel. What an EXCELLENT resource it proved to be! The reviews and suggestions were right on the money. We appriciated the personal input and specifics for sites, activities, resturants, etc - it was as though a good friend was giving you traveling advice.
The book is well layed out and easy to navigate.
We carried this with us during our site-seeing adventures both on and off the island and it proved to be invalueable. There is no question that our trip would not have been as outstanding had we not had it.

Book Description
The Grand Excursion of 1854 brought 1200 people to the edge of the world. Of course, they knew the actual world went far beyond the Mississippi River. But they were city folk. To them a world without large cities, thriving businesses, and factories belching clouds of black smoke was still "savage." The small settlements between Davenport and St. Anthony hardly made an impression, and Indians were regarded as exotic and fearsome creatures.
When the excursionists debarked in St. Paul, continuing their quest, they immediately jumped onto stages and wagons bound for the Falls of St. Anthony. What they wanted all along was a taste of nature in the raw. What they saw as participants during their seven-day "Grand Excursion" more than answered their expectations in beauty and rugged spectacle.
Retracing the route of the Grand Excursion is an exhilarating experience. The grand vistas, picturesque islands, and awe- inspiring bluffs are still there. Eagles still soar overhead, and waterfowl continue to nest in the sloughs and backwaters. But today's skyline along the shore is as much shaped by steeples and smokestacks as by willow and cottonwood trees. In the space of 150 years, the river has spawned the flourishing cities that today line its banks and pay tribute to its nurturing presence.
Customer Reviews:
A highly entertaining and informative work.......2004-06-06
Enhanced with more than one hundred color and b/w illustrations, Mississippi Escapade: Reliving The Grand Excursion Of 1854 is a superbly organized and presented documentation and celebration of an 1854 journey by a group of notable and fashionable people which brought worldwide attention to what was then America's western and wilderness frontier. Ten years in the making, Grand Excursion 2004 proved to be a catalyst from significant and grandiose civic improvements in more than forty Upper Mississippi communities, including Minneapolis and St. Paul. Of special note will be the largest steamboat flotilla in a hundred years that will travel the Mississippi from the Quad Cities to the Twin Cities from June 25 to July 5, 2004. A highly entertaining and informative work which is especially suited to school and community library American History collections, co-authors Paul Clifford Larson and Pamela Allen Larson are to be commended for their collaborative expertise and excellence.
Beautiful book; some misinformation.......2004-05-07
We received this book at our public library after lots of anticipation. The photographs are beautiful, and it is a nice representation of the towns along the Mississippi River. The book is geared toward students; but I believe any history buff --or anyone who loves the beauty of Mississippi River towns will enjoy looking at it. The book has the breezy style of a Dorling Kindersley book; lots of information condensed and simplified for easy reading. I noticed for my particular area (McGregor, Iowa & Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin) there's misinformation (number of Ringling brothers born in McGregor is wrong (5 not 4 as is stated in the book) -- and the statement that Pike's Peak State Park is the highest point in Iowa (not true -- although it may be the highest vantage point along the river -- it's not the highest point in Iowa) This makes me think other facts are glossed over or misrepresented. Mistakes like these are rampant in history books; people tend to believe incorrect information when they don't check more than one source.

The author was convicted for giving out this advice..........2005-02-03
Don't waste your money.
The author is a sham artist. He was convicted, and in a plea bargain handed over his entire client list to the US Governtment. None of the advice in this book is legal or legitimate.
Author Is Going to Prison.......2004-11-30
Anyone who believes this BS is either really stupid or really naive. The author has been charged with defrauding the federal government, has agreed to a plea bargain, and will enter the U.S. District Court in San Francisco next month to plead guilty. As part of the plea bargain Mr. Schneider has turned over his client list to the IRS, complete with addresses, phone numbers and other information. Some tax advice: When something sounds too good to be true - it always is.

Tried it, book doesn't work........2004-05-04
I followed the book's instructions to the letter and tried to open a current account at three Singapore banks recommended in the book. Only one replied, saying I could only open an account denominated in US dollars or Singapore dollars, and not any other currency, contrary to what the book says. In addition, this bank wanted somebody already known to them to introduce me to them before they'd deal with me. This book is a waste of time and money. I'm now doing internet research to get the informmation I need to do what I want to do. It takes a lot more time, but I feel confident of success.
we have a winner for "Worst Investing Book"!.......2004-05-04
this book is the equivalent of the saturday morning "get rich quick" scheisters you see on TV (and incidentally, the author, naturally, pitches his wares at the end).
the advice in the book goes beyond being bad...its irresponsible, misleading, and negligent.
here's one of the author's brainfarts (paraphrased):
"open an off shore reinsurance company, and then with your domestic company, purchase insurance from your off shore company--that way the premiums are both tax-deductible and a source of profit at the same time!" ---and how exactly would this help you in event of a claim?
or better still (and i quote):
" (US) banks are in bad shape--worse shape, in fact (though none are provided---a common refrain in this book, claims w/o data!), than most foreign banks. Of course, your money is insured up to $100k by the FDIC, but what would happen in the event of a universal banking crisis? Federal agencies could never handle the massive run on banks that would ensue..." ---oh, so this is to imply that a small private off-shore bank is going to serve as the new financial risk-free rate determinant (setting all financial markets back 100+ yrs), and this small off-shore bank is going to be far safer than the US Govt (FDIC)?
this book is an insult to anyone w/ a critical mind. its beyond terrible. its a great way to lose money, whether you invest as he advocates, or simply throwing away your $30 to buy it.
A collection of bedtime stories.......2003-12-31
This book is poorly structured. The author reiterates the same concept of going offshore over and over again. He does not reveal any detail on how to do it. Instead, he gives you a great number of short stories that he had heard from someone else. This was one of the worst books I had ever read! Stay away!

Introduction to the Endangered Manatee.......2000-07-04
Written and published in Florida, this small volume gives an excellent introduction to this subject. The text is accompanied by excellent black and white photographs throughout. Characteristics and an overview of the Manatee from a historical perspective is given briefly. Why this species is endangered is discussed. The habits and natural history is presented briefly. There is also an excellent section on where the Manatee can be viewed in Florida. For instance not many residents of the Tampa Bay Florida area know that Florida Power has a seasonal Manatee viewing center at the Big Bend Power Station in Apollo Beach, right outside Tampa. This is free to the public and during cold snaps large numbers of Manatees congregate at the warm water discharge. Also mentioned is "Snooty", perhaps the most famous Manatee in the world, right in Bradenton, Florida. Snooty has been in captivity since 1949 and has outlived most of his caretakers! All of this and more interesting facts are in this book. This book would be great for anyone planning a Florida vacation who would like to see these unique animals. It is easy to read, and would hold the interest of older children as well as adults.
Manatees - Vanishing Mermaids.......2000-04-27
For the money, this is a great value. Very interesting, easy to read book for kids 9+ and adults interested in manatees, conservation and where to see them.

Book Description
The parable of the unjust steward in Luke 16:1-13 is a unity which teaches faithful stewardship of material possession against an eschatological backdrop. This interpretation is confirmed by examination of the pericope itself and progressively wider levels of context within Luke's Gospel. Chapter one provides a history of recent interpretations of the parable (nineteenth and twentieth centuries) as background for the ensuing study. Detailed exegesis of Luke 16:1-13 itself is found in chapter two. The investigation is broadened in chapter three to include the immediate and broader literary contexts (Luke 15-16 and 9:51-19:44, respectively). Chapter four examines the theological context, in particular the themes of riches and poverty and the kingdom of God. Chapter five summarizes the major conclusions of the book. The book is a thorough summary of the literature on the parable, the central section, and the themes of riches and poverty and eschatology in the third Gospel.

Cary Grant epitomizes the glamour and style of Hollywood's golden age. And the photographs in Geoffrey Wansell's book, Cary Grant: Dark Angel, capture that essence. The pictures--studio publicity stills, movie posters, candid paparazzi snapshots and family photos--carry the reader through the stages of Grant's life as he moves from one role to another and one love to another. The photos are so good they speak for themselves. Quotes from such celebrities as Marlene Dietrich and Sophia Loren and film critic Pauline Kael add to the viewing pleasure in this encounter with the dashing Hollywood icon.
Customer Reviews:
Pure Angel.......2003-07-20
This is a great chronological account of CG's movies and his life in between and during each one as he made them. There are lot of common pictures, and some you rarely see. All the same, though, it's a wonderful biography, one of the best I've read.
CARY GRANT :Dark Angel by Geoffrey Wansell.......2003-04-01
I found this book to be a wonderful insight into the glorious life of Cary Grant....many have said it before ,however the combination of wonderful photographs and truthful respectful
wording makes this a must for Cary Grant Fans ....just great!!!
APOTHE-CARY.......2000-08-11
Cary Grant was such a gentleman, so gay, charming and debonair. The pictures show him at his homoerotic best, to the delight of all his hardcore fans. This book is great, with nice writing and not a juicy detail left out (and were they ever juicy...*slurp*) Cary Grant is the man! Giddy-up, dah-ling! Ride 'em cowboy!
Book Description
In this magisterial study of the life and work of St. Anselm, Sir Richard Southern provides the definitive study of one of the most complex and fascinating philosophical minds in Christian history. St. Anselm brings together all the elements of a man whose intensely concentrated search for God filled all the phases and aspects of his life and work. Nothing in Anselm's thinking was simply ordinary or typical of his age.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent!.......1999-12-27
Saint Anselm (of Bec and Canterbury) and William the Conqueror (of Normandy and England) were near-contemporaries. Each radically redefined what it meant to be a European. This book explores that process. I found it startling to read, but very satisfying.
