great information on new zealand cities and points of interest, historical & commercial. excellent itineraries with photography to give you a true sense of the trip, including physical requirements. recommend it highly for a first-time visitor!
Colorful, informative travel tips but lack of maps/direction.......2004-01-21
This is a colorful book with lots of pictures about New Zealand. Its first couple of chapters include the history and culture of New Zealand are especially interesting. They were very useful for visitors to the Kiwi country. However, its lack of large street maps, area maps and detail route maps are disappointing as well as annoying. Although the front cover has an overview map of both the north & south island, I think it will improve the ease of reading and research if various level of district maps and street maps are provided, especially when a traveller was deciding which hotel/motel to book reservations and how far he/she needs to drive from one scenic spot to the next. Without this, it is disasterous for travel planning. Other things to include will be web sites for driving directions such as www.wises.co.nz etc. For a backpack traveller like me, I will even be willing to pay more if road maps/ street map of Auckland are included with the book (which some of the publishers are already doing).

Best Book (By Far) On Cross Selling.......2003-08-27
This is the best book (by far) on cross selling that I've found. The books principles can be summarized by Mr. Harding's acronym "BEST."
(1) Buyers. Identify the key buyers in the client organization and strive to create relationships with as many -- if not all -- of these buyers as possible.
(2) Events. Create "events" such as kick-off meetings, progress meetings, and fact-finding/exporatory meetings that put you in a position to build these relationships and mine for signals (number #3 which follows) of additional needs or concerns.
(3) Signals. Listen for signals that the client may need additional services. These signals may be obvious (such as the announcement of a merger or acquisition) or may be simple comments.
(4) Techniques. Professionals should equip themselves with listening, relationship-building, and sales skills in addition to professional skills and expertise.
The book provides extensive case studies to show each principle in detail and also provides a representative list of the types of events and signals to consider. Again, this book is by far the best available on cross selling. I highly recommend it.
Practical answers for the #1 sales challenge!.......2002-10-21
At my company we have been struggling to solve the cross-selling issue for some time. Our sales organization has not been able to commit to a viable cross-selling strategy and to implement it over time. The result: money left on the table and poor customer satisfaction (or simply customer annoyance).
If you have looked around at the sales books out there, you know that there is not a lot of really good practical advice on cross-selling strategies. Harding does a great job offering suggestions which are effective and reasonable. We have used some of the strategies in his previous two books with great success and we are looking forward to implementing the cross-selling strategies as well. Another great book!
a great practical guide.......2002-10-21
After more than 15 years experience in business and in companies large and small, I've seen plenty of cross-selling initiatives fall short of expectations. When I saw this book, I was hopeful though somewhat skeptical. But this book really delivers. It's a great practical guide to actually getting things done. The author uses real-life examples and stories to help illustrate points and this takes things from the realm of theory and makes them understandable and actionable. I don't usually write reviews but it is not often that you find a business book that actually deals with a topic in a clear and effective way. Good stuff.
*A*lways *B*e *C*losing.......2002-08-25
Cross-Selling Success is a well-written book about the various techniques to developing new accounts. While that may not be critical to the advancement and promotion of every single employee in an organization, it certainly can boost the career of a significant portion.
When combined with Levine's Guerrilla PR: Wired, which explains how to promote and assist the client, Cross-Selling Success can immeasurably boost both your client's and your bottom lines.
Don't view this book as little more than a glorified used-car salesman's style. Excuse me, I meant pre-owned sales consultant's assistance.
Rather, view it not even a guide to acquiring new accounts. For what is this skill but an insight into human psychology? A way to ascertain a person's feelings and thoughts upon a certain business relationship, size up the strengths and weaknesses of those thoughts and then offer that individual an option that better satisfies that individual's preferences.
Because of that, I recommend Cross-Selling Success.

Not big on details, but an excellent overview of how to integrate exercise, nutrition, and gardening, with plenty of motivation packed in. Unless you're an expert in all these areas (or uninterested in any), I highly recommend this book.

Book Description
My pictures are like my eyes, Mario Testino has said. I photograph what I see and what I want to see. What this top fashion and celebrity photographer observes here, in a richly sensual volume, is his own glittering world of exotic locations and encounters. A man who flies around the world as regularly as others drive across town, he shares his travel memories of magnificent city nights and mysterious landscapes. These photographs, almost all previously unpublished, are full of radiance, color, and humorous juxtapositions. They are pure joie de vivre, a marvelous collage by a gifted photographer at his very best.

WHEN YOU LOOK AT THIS MAN'S WORK YOU FEEL ALIVE.......2007-01-24
I just loved this book ... but I'am a very big fan of Mario's work and him .. a must for your collection
Not the best of Testino.......2001-09-28
This a one of the books that I find disappointing. I prefer his work on other publications and if you're a lover Mario's work, buy Visionaire or the V magazine instead.
English Customer.......2001-09-27
Having bought Any Objections? by the same author with which I was dissapointed I was very glad to see a return to form by Mr. Testino. Alive is truly sumed up by its' title. Its full of life, colour, energy & passion with a healthy dose of sex thrown in for good measure. We are given an access-all-areas tour of Mr. Testino's glamourous life filled with fabulous parties, gorgeous locations & sexy models as well as incredibly candid portraits of celebrities. The photography is first-rate and clearly shows Testino's passion for the medium - he must never be without a camera in his hands! The over-all quality of the book is outstanding with hidden images on the reverse of the jacket and special touches that bring it high above the level of other photography volumes. A real must have for all lovers of the dolce vita!
UTTER DISAPPOINTMENT.......2001-09-11
After reviewing the book, u can definitely notice the editorial staff must have put a huge amount of afford in this book, trying to project something proper from all those utter mediocre material from mr. testino. Instead of the signature nicely crafted testino shoots that he's known for, we got tons of over-blown blurred cityscape snap shots that wouldn't even fit the wall of a DKNY shop! If this is another publication that is supposed to show "the other side" of the testino spectrum, like his previous books. Then it only shows that even a god can be mortal if he doesn't try.
completely overpriced with a un-necessarily large format to round up the disappointment.

I liked the book and I like Gwynnie - sorry, haters!.......2007-09-06
Sorry, but I just don't agree at all with the hateful comments about Gwyneth Paltrow.
Gwyneth doesn't get tattooed, steal other women's husbands, collect orphans, wear a vial of blood around her neck, get out of a car sans underwear, or shave her head in public. She doesn't wipe greasy hands on designer dresses. She doesn't get busted for DUI.
She hasn't been married five or six times and all that other nonsense.
Oooooooooooh....that's so boring.
Gwyneth is a lady, a natural beauty who doesn't have to be constantly in the tabloids.
She has two beautiful children.....and I think her husband is adorable.
She and her family are nice and normal. Sorry if that isn't exciting enough for you Paltrow-haters.
She was wonderful in "Shakespeare In Love", by the way.
Most OVER rated actress.......2005-03-09
Funny I thought I was the only one who noticed she lisps!!
And yes she is the poster child for 'Nepotism'
Gwyneth Puke-trow.......2002-06-27
Couldn't agree more with roxie and Glenn...she is nepotism at its worst. She was given everything in life. She is a less-than-average mumbling, lisp-infected "actress." She is not attractive in face or figure (and has terrible posture). She is an icon of NOTHING and has done nothing to better the world. Her best role was dating Brad Pitt. Harvey Weinsteing put a lot of eggs in her basket and had to make sure she remained popular. That is one reason she is where she is. The other is her parents. If they weren't who they are, she would be serving you at your local Denny's...ok, maybe that's too beneath "Gwynnie"...she'd be your shampoo girl at the local hair salon...
Why?.......2001-11-13
I agree with roxie52 on this one. Why people elevate actors and actresses to the position on role model... what have they done?? What has Paltrow done but ride Brad Pitts coat tails to fame and them dumped him! Not that Pitt is any great talant (50 million for a wedding band lawsuit) These people are so good at pretending to be someone else, because they have no clue who they really are. Paltrow is someone who has never had to worry about anything in her life, except if her shoes matched her dress. Are we really idolizing the person or there money and fame? I read this book just to get some insight into Paltrow's life. Rich kid, rich parents that's about the whole story. Save yourself a few dollars and buy a good novel instead!

Of all Jane Austen's heroines, Emma Woodhouse is the most flawed, the most infuriating, and, in the end, the most endearing. Pride and Prejudice's Lizzie Bennet has more wit and sparkle; Catherine Morland in Northanger Abbey more imagination; and Sense and Sensibility's Elinor Dashwood certainly more sense--but Emma is lovable precisely because she is so imperfect. Austen only completed six novels in her lifetime, of which five feature young women whose chances for making a good marriage depend greatly on financial issues, and whose prospects if they fail are rather grim. Emma is the exception: "Emma Woodhouse, handsome, clever, and rich, with a comfortable home and happy disposition seemed to unite some of the best blessings of existence; and had lived nearly twenty-one years in the world with very little to distress or vex her." One may be tempted to wonder what Austen could possibly find to say about so fortunate a character. The answer is, quite a lot.
For Emma, raised to think well of herself, has such a high opinion of her own worth that it blinds her to the opinions of others. The story revolves around a comedy of errors: Emma befriends Harriet Smith, a young woman of unknown parentage, and attempts to remake her in her own image. Ignoring the gaping difference in their respective fortunes and stations in life, Emma convinces herself and her friend that Harriet should look as high as Emma herself might for a husband--and she zeroes in on an ambitious vicar as the perfect match. At the same time, she reads too much into a flirtation with Frank Churchill, the newly arrived son of family friends, and thoughtlessly starts a rumor about poor but beautiful Jane Fairfax, the beloved niece of two genteelly impoverished elderly ladies in the village. As Emma's fantastically misguided schemes threaten to surge out of control, the voice of reason is provided by Mr. Knightly, the Woodhouse's longtime friend and neighbor. Though Austen herself described Emma as "a heroine whom no one but myself will much like," she endowed her creation with enough charm to see her through her most egregious behavior, and the saving grace of being able to learn from her mistakes. By the end of the novel Harriet, Frank, and Jane are all properly accounted for, Emma is wiser (though certainly not sadder), and the reader has had the satisfaction of enjoying Jane Austen at the height of her powers. --Alix Wilber
Book Description
Jane Austen (1775-1817) is considered by many scholars to be the first great woman novelist. Her novels revolve around people, not events or coincidences. Miss Austen sets her novels in the upper middle class English country which was her own environment.
Her novels have increased in stature over time. Her skills of writing, including a dry humor and a witty elegance of expression have attracted generations to her work.
Miss Austen completed six novels and part of a seventh, "Sense and Sensibility", "Pride and Prejudice", "Mansfield Park", "Emma", "Northanger Abbey", "Persuasion" and the partial "Lady Susan". Quiet Vision publishes all seven.
Download Description
Emma (1816) is Jane Austen's comic masterpiece in which Emma Woodhouse finds her match-making skills sadly misdirected as she learns humility and self-knowledge at the same time as she discovers love.
Customer Reviews:
slow, but worth it.......2007-08-30
Be warned: this book is slow. very slow. i loved pride and prejudice, but i would have quit partway through this one if it hadn't been a gift.
However, if you have the patience and fortitude to get through it, you will be rewarded. Though i could have done without so much detail about the planning of a party, or full chapters of Emma and Mr. Knightley talking things to death, it was an overall good book. Emma is very fully developed. She starts out, not as a good girl with some faults, but as a vain, selfish, silly young woman, and comes out by the end of the book deeply and believably changed.
one thing I particularly enjoyed is that since Emma was always so wrong in her guesses, it was up to the reader to figure out what was really going on, and who was in love with whom. Especially towards the end, I had a lot of fun picking out hints and speculating, and seeing my guesses come out right.
The book isn't so amazing that i would urge everyone to struggle through the whole length of it, but it's a worthwhile and enjoyable read. it just could have been much shortened.
Tiresome.......2007-08-21
I guess I am an exception. I found the book, Emma, to be overly long and tiresome. The book focuses mostly on social calls between Emma and her neighbors and their dialogue. Emma is just so snobbish and aware of her high status that it was hard to find her likeable at first. I found myself liking her more towards the end of the book as she saw the error of her ways. I loved Pride and Prejudice...but this book just didn't really click with me.
Equal to Austen's Best.......2007-08-11
Emma Woodhouse is an atypical heroine for a Jane Austen novel. Usually, we see disadvantaged girls struggle to find happiness through marriage. In Emma's case, we see a girl who has everything in the world she could want. She is rich, pretty, and happy. She has no desire to be married, as it would interfere with the simple life she enjoys with her father and she knows it would break his heart to be parted from her. The story follows Emma's life beginning at 21 as she tries to help a young girl named Harriet Smith marry above her station. Emma also engages in a flirtation with a young man and generally makes a bit of a mess of things whenever she gets involved.
I have read that Jane Austen felt that Emma was a character only her creator could like. I would have to disagree with that. Emma is certainly flawed, but her heart is almost always in the right place. Pride has blinded her to her own limitations but she is also one who does not shrink from the responsibility of her mistakes and tries very hard to learn from them. I found this admirable and grew to like her more and more as the book progressed.
Aside from Emma, the rest of the cast was also very well written. Her father is a complete hypochondriac and often engages in behavior that would typically be considered highly rude. Yet, he is motivated so completely by a desire to be kind to others that his misguided application of that desire only endears him to the reader. Mr. Knightley, the no-nonsense friend of the family is admittedly not the most complex character in the world, but he is a very good one and his solidity is a great counterbalance to Emma's wishful thinking.
In summary, Emma is a nice change of pace from Jane Austen's other novels. It starts off well and grows more engaging as it continues. The characters are interesting and Emma herself grows considerably during the course of the novel.
A True Classic.......2007-07-28
I read this book in college and I reread it every so often. Emma is a funny, light story that is more than a little touching. Emma is so busy arranging other people's lives that she neglects her own wants and needs. Emma is wealthy and a godd person, but she's not a saint and she doean't come off as one.
It's Clueless.......2007-07-14
And I mean that in a good way. When the movie Clueless came out, I must have watched it a thousand times. Then, I read Emma and was delighted to find that my Clueless was actually based off of this book. The whole story is great and I am once again reminded that sometimes I am also not a good judge of a person's character!
It's a light, fun, Jane Austen read. I recommend it.

Overrated, nauseating, self absorbed FishStick.......2005-09-13
An average looking if not homely intuitive actress (but with VERY little training)who had nepotism times a billion at her disposal. Without her connections, would have NEVER made it beyond off off broadway. Pretty at times and other times rather ugly, a skinny but formless figure, sometimes quite good acting and other times terribly untrained and clueless and ineffective and absolute BOX OFFICE POISON. She is no Grace Kelly, a true classic beauty. She is not a great actor like her mother, and she sounds valley girlish in all of her asinine ego driven quotes. I keep hearing she's A List. How? Her movies bomb and bomb and bomb. Noone goes to see her and she has smartly stuck to smaller films because she cannot carry a big film and has no fan base. She will not be heard of in a few years from now after she has more kids. Noone cares about her and she's just too average to have any kind of legacy in looks, talent, and everything else. But Apple is the cutest baby in the world. That's the truth.
