Books on websites are usually old before they come out.
Not this one.
Seth has recorded the timeless thinking behind websites. The thinking that will never change and will help you create brilliant stuff.
No other book does this, not this way, not this sharp, short and bold.
It's a short book, but longer isn't needed. You get it at the first pages. The rest is to drill in into your system.
Brilliant book. Brilliant author by the way (check out his video's that roam around on the web and you'll know this book is great).
Very Powerfull.......2007-05-07
If you're looking to do business on the internet this book will prove invaluable, its a manual how to make a internet business succeed, without it so many important factors can be overlooked making the end result i.e. your profits sink to the bottom...a must read for the serious entrepreneur who wants to make serious money on the net.
A Bit Disappointing.......2007-02-12
I was a little disappointed after reading this book. I expected a thorough tutorial on how to make websites better. The book is basically a critique of websites. Also, since I read this in 2007 and the book apparently was written in 2001 the critiqued websites are old. In my experience in this day and age there are few websites that break the rules presented in the book. Maybe everyone read the book and fixed them. For me, the critiques and suggestions were not new information for me. I also purchased Godin's Unleashing the Ideadvirus. I hope it's better.
Missing content.......2006-11-10
This is a little fun thing to read, but it provides too little content in my mind.
The Big Red Herring.......2006-09-17
Let me first say that I'm a huge fan of Seth Godin. That being said, this is not one of Seth's better works. A better title might have been: The Big Red Herring: A few of my web page pet peeves.
Here's how the book breaks down. There are a total of 111 pages. There are 46 mini-critiques which are comprised of one page with a single B&W screenshot of a webpage or email and a facing page explaining what you're looking at. These pages are usually only about 3 - 4 paragraphs (half the page). Of the 46 mini-critiques, 7 are about emails. This leaves 39 mini-critiques about actual websites.
I think that for the money we should have had at least a few of the screenshots in color, particularly the one where Seth tells us that the buttons are the wrong color, but doesn't mention what color they are. We don't know, we're looking at a B&W picture.
There are only about 13 unique insights. So each insight is repeated an average of 3 times. In the book Seth himself says, "Redundancy is often the enemy of a great web experience". Well, ditto for the book experience.
The first web site listed on Seth's recommended site list is [...] You'll find that the only content on the web site is directed toward selling you the book that you're already holding. There are no extra web site critiques or examples. As Seth himself would say, "Where's the banana?"

Awful idea, awful pictures.......2003-05-09
Perhaps the drawings in this book were art therapy for the participants; they certainly don't do anything for the viewer. Definitely not worth the trees it took to print, but if you're sent a review copy, the book does have that "can't-help-looking" effect of a car crash.
50+ untrained artists execute infantile drawings in pencil, crayon, and poster paints. The ideas for a perfect world are either predictable (Ingrid Newkirk, founder of PETA, covers a page with pro-vegan messages; Harold Bloom-in a particularly embarrassing scrawl-draws a girl reading) or so nebulous as to be incomprehensible without an essay (Alan Dershowitz fumbles through three pages without clarifying his painting). I have no doubt the contributors are well-intentioned, but the contributions themselves are surprisingly rote, praising family, ecology, industry, religion, and the like without any unique take on the individual's hopes or desires for the world. A book that drew its responses from grade schoolers might have better artwork or more surprising ideas.
But man, I can't stop looking at that Harold Bloom scribble.
The Best Book I Have Read This Year........2003-01-13
The Author has written a first rate book. Her concept is unique and gives us a special view of powerful individuals who are in positions of importance and who have and will, in the future, inflence national policies that affect each of us. I am especially struck by the eloquence of their statements and by the difficulty most of them had with their artistic presentation....I advise the reader to read the Introduction before they rush into the individual interviews.Ms. Trione puts the entire concept in an interesting and somewhat unexpected perspective. I hope that we will have more of her books. Do not miss A Perfect World
Fascinating!.......2003-01-13
Debra Trione has found a wonderful way to get the heart of each of the 50 people she interviewed. Each interview is personal and engaging. Trione's idea to have each person create a unique painting is simple, yet brilliant. She has taken each of the people she interviewed right back to the age that they last held a paintbrush. The paintings are childlike, yet honest, sincere and captivating representations of many different views of "A Perfect World."
Imanginative Approach.......2003-01-13
Debra Trione has used an imaginative approach interviewing many of America's leaders. The result is an insightful compilation of their views on making our world a better place for mankind. It is an enjoyable book to read.

Bring it Back.......2000-03-14
Perennial Gardening (American Garden Guides) is one of my favorite garden books. It is concise, accurate, extremely well illustrated,and does not confuse the reader with excessive information. I am a horticulturalist and the Head Grower for a 60 acre wholesale container nursery. I have been responsible for growing perennials for over 20years. Often I am ask to speak to retail customers or the general public. This is my most highly recommended book for people first starting to develop a perennial Garden.
Well organized and easy identification of plants........1999-04-08
I am on my 6th week with this book from my local library. I can't get enough. I have read many books and magazines and this book is well organized and has great clearity and easy access for plant descriptions. I highly recommend getting a copy from your library and checking it out for yourself. I hope these reviews will help bring this book back around for the gardeners who want a good book to add to their collection.
Very informative and easy to use........1998-08-07
I have this book and keep it handly for reference year round. It gets a lot of use in the spring & fall, when I need a quick brush up on what to move or divide and when. I have recommended this book to many of my gardening friends. I hope at least some of them got a copy. I know many more who want a copy.
Get this book back in print..........1997-12-27
Actually, I have't read this book because book stores don't carry it. It is out of stock and nobody can get it. I know it's a good book, though, because it is part of The American Gardening Guide series. I have the Annual Gardening book in this series and it is very well organized and informative. I would dearly love a copy of Perennial Gardening. I hope a book distributor will read this, and due to the fact that it just so happens they still have a copy in stock, they contact me at my email address below.

This excellent book is one of my plant "bibles." Good photographs and good character and cultural information for a broad range of garden perennials. It could be even BETTER, as it is slipping out of date (more than 10 years!). Time for a good revision, not just a reprint. This superb foundation should be invested in and built upon by the publisher. I own 5 copies and also give copies as gifts. I'd renew all of them if more current varietal information were included...
Excellent and Comprehensive Reference.......2000-02-12
I have owned this book for ten years and probably use it at least ten to fifteen times a year. I have given several as gifts and frequently hear positive remarks about the book years later from the recipient. A very comprehensive reference that will not disappoint.

I DON'T ALWAYS BELIEVE WHAT I READ FROM SECONDHAND SOURCES BUT THIS BOOK SEEMS TO BE ACCURATE IN ITS TELLING OF THE LIFE OF CECIL BEATON AS IT RELATED TO GARBO. I WAS PLEASED TO LEARN DETAILS OF GARBO'S PRIVATE LIFE AS A RECLUSE SINCE SUCH INFORMATION IS SCARCE. THE BOOK IS CERTAINLY A GREAT READ AS MR. BEATON WAS QUITE INTERESTING HIMSELF & HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO EXPERIENCE GARBO IN FIRST PERSON.

A dramatic story minus the drama........2001-08-06
Disappointing. I kept wanting to like this book, but it never engaged my interest. This is the Jack Webb version of the story, "Just the facts, M'am." This is strictly documentary reporting by his MI5 case officer, not storytelling. There's no drama, suspense or intrigue. Remember the Giants-Dodgers playoff game where Bobby Thompson hit his home run? This is like reading the boxscore in the newspaper, instead of hearing the sportscaster call the play on the radio. I hope somewhere there is a better Garbo book. He's an amazing, heroic man whose story deserves to be told with all the cleverness, imagination and dramatic flair that was no doubt his.
