Wild Trees of Idaho is, in completeness and competence, one of the best state tree books available in the U.S. But because Idaho's flora has affinities to the boreal forests to its north, the Pacific Northwest rainforest, the Great Basin, Rocky Mountains, and Great Plains, this book is a must for tree enthusiasts from all of Idaho's neighbor states and Canadian provinces as well. More than an identification guide (though a good example of that genre), Wild Trees opens with a broad account of how Idaho's forests evolved over the last hundred million years; and an ecological essay on its present-day vegetation communities.
Idaho's sylvan richness, including its many introduced naturalized species, make for a varied array of broadleaved and coniferous species. Each receives a page of text and one of black/white illustrations. There is an 8-page color insert containing brilliant photos of 78 species. Key identification characters are stressed, as are locations in Idaho where noteworthy specimens of each species can be seen, data on the largest Idaho specimens, and generally very reliable natural history information. The writing style is folksy and accessible, yet technically of a high level. This book has a lot to teach.

The Storming Media report number is A758034. The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: This paper is a critical review of bare beach logistics over-the- shore (LOTS) operations. It examines the utility of the bare beach and asks if this method of LOTS is still viable for today's military. It begins with a general description of LOTS and describes unique characteristics of the bare beach operation. It then reviews the history of LOTS from World War II through the present day. This historical perspective gives insight into the utility that LOTS provided in past campaigns and what might be expected of LOTS in support of present day operations. It then investigates three constraints limiting the utility of bare beach LOTS operations: number and location of watercraft, sea state minimums, and infrastructure beyond the beach. This review of bare beach LOTS reveals that it is a high-cost, high-risk, and often unreliable operation that does not meet operational requirements of the regional warfighting CINCs. Next the operation is viewed from the warfighter's perspective. From this vantage, bare beach LOTS may be the logistics support option with the lowest operational cost, and therefore of great utility regardless of the logistical cost. In conclusion, this paper emphasizes the need to improve and enhance bare beach LOTS capability to adequately support the warfighter.

I recommend not buying both of the Few books - there's what seems to be quite a bit of overlapping content between them -- pick the one book that is closer to what you're working on and just get that one, it'll cover what you need.
There are some interesting concepts in here - if you read his blog you'll have a really good idea for what you're getting.

Show Me the Numbers provides the practical and useful information needed to creat tables and graphs to effectively tell your quantitative story. Through numerous examples and illustrations, Stephen Few points out the good, the bad, and the just plain ugly ways that quantitative data can be presented. Numbers are important to any business. This book provides the reader with the tools needed to fluently communicate using the language of numbers.

This is a very basic overview of easy descriptive statistics, combined with some Tufte-esque notes on graph display, but for the more sophisticated reader on metrics/data/stats, this is not a real keeper. About 20% of it was new or thought-provoking, so if you're already well-read on this topic, don't get this one.

This is a great book which clearly elucidates design principles. The fact that all the graphs explained are created in Excel also makes the book more practicable.

The book's content is good and useful for the analyst who needs to present numbers concisely and clearly, making people understand at the first sight.
However, the writing of the book is a bit clumsy. The book progresses slowly.This book makes its point only at the middle of the book. I was expecting the book went straight to the point to share about the techniques of presenting numbers effectively at the very front pages.

A great look at the adult entertainment business.......2001-09-30
I found this book to be very enlightening about the adult movie business, as well as the strip clubs and mens magazine empires. The book focuses more on the businesses than it does the author, although there is extensive personal information given. It seems that the information given is just enough to explain the actions the author took. It moves fast, so you must give it undivided attention to catch the details. I particularly appreciated the ending and the sumarization of the author's opinions. The review of the book before this one, I feel, does not understand the author's desire to keep her more personal life private. I can understand why she would feel this way, and I read it for the information on the businesses afore mentioned, not necessarily for an interest in the author herself.
Autobiography could be much improved........2001-07-09
While this book is interesting it is ultimately disappointing. The disappointment comes in two areas. The first and simplist is that the book needs extensive editing. Simple proofreading should have removed numerous spelling errors and other problems with basic English. While these things do not prevent the understanding of the text they are distracting and reduce the effectiveness of any piece. A good editor would also have improved the consistency of the book. Characters are introduced with little explanation and names are adjusted in a confusing manner. Many areas cry out for more background. There are almost never any dates mentioned in the book so it becomes very hard to keep track of how long it is between events. One simple example of lack of details is the one sentence mentioning that it was a good thing the author had decided to home-school her children. There was never any background about how this decision was reached, who did the teaching, or what the results seem to have been. There is just so much in the story that received too little attention.
The second problem is that the book purports to be a look behind the x-rated business and while it touches this the main point of the book is to complain about what had been done to the author by everyone she had ever met and to justify her actions based on this. If her first husband ever offered even as much as emotional support after their marriage it isn't mentioned. Even concerning her present husband there is nothing about what he has done to help her or how they love each other. He is introduced and married in a paragraph which is summed up by saying they dated for a year and then got married. The book sounds like a catharsis and that can be a good thing for the author but for the rest of us a more balanced story would fill out the portrait of the author. The book is not a bad idea but an extensive rewrite under the direction of a good editor would lengthen the book and make it a much better document.

Classic English Interiors is a great book depicting the more upper-scale homes/interiors of England. The photos are exceptionally good too. If you are contemplating using English style in your decorating scheme, this is surely a good book of information and photos.

Not only does this book have great pictures but Henrietta Churchill-Spender dishes on the gossip about her illustrious ancestors. I was privileged to enjoy a tour of the private quarters of the Duke at Blenheim Palace and lots of the pictures are of parts of his home not always open to the public. There is even a picture of the Duke's favorite old green leather chair. Beautiful book with beautiful pictures of a magnificent home.

The Spencer-Churchills are a remarkable family. This well-illustrated, handsomely produced account by a member of the family, is a fascinating 400 year social history of this clan.
Meant for a wide audience, this work gives a sneak peek into the private lives of some of England's best, such as John Churchill, the first Duke, and Sir Winston Churchill.
The unique illustrations alone make the book worth buying. A must have for any lover of royalty, Sir Winston, the Stuart Dynasty, English biography, or social history.
ENGLANDS GRANDEST ESTATE.......2006-03-11
This is a very good book on a fascinating family and a grand estate. Blenheim is without doubt the grandest of the non royal estates, it really is quite a stack of stones. The history makes the house all the more interesting. From the first Duke of Marlborough to Consuelo Vanderbilt to Winston Churchill, this estate has really seen some history. The images in this book are very good and the text is very well researched. Looking at the sumptuousness of this colosses, it is apparent that Queen Anne was more that a little pleased with the Dukes campaigns against the Sun King, for this estate was much nicer than anything the Crown possessed.
INTERESTING BOOK WITH INFORMATIVE TEXT AND GORGEOUS PHOTOS.......2005-10-31
I received this book as a gift and it has been read and looked at many, many times. The photographs by Andreas von Einsiedel and Geoff Dann are stunning and show the splendours of Blenheim Palace in all their ancient glory.
There is an informative genealogical table and the bibliography is short but informative - especially when the author used Marian Fowlers book, Blenheim: Biography of a Palace (1991) as a source.
This is the perfect coffe table book and would make a glorious Christmas or Hannukah gift.
Very highly recommended - especially for the photographs.
