Irreverent guide is GREAT.......2005-09-23

After reading all the books I could find on the Virgin Islands,I have to say that I enjoyed this one the best. It gave me the information that I really wanted. My only regret is that there is not a more current edition. But that said, if you are planning a trip to the Virgin Islands this book is a must have!!!

My husband and I are moving to the U.S. Virgin Islands and could not find any books that were not geared towards all of the tourist traps and tourist sights. This guide gives you everything you need to know as a tourist and then everything else you would like to know that travel books never seem to have. This book not only tells you the great stuff but it also tells you the not so great stuff. My husband even read this book! Very insightful and very helpful.

Great intro to law text.......2005-09-30

As an MBA student, this text was a great introduction to business law. The actual cases proved to be quite interesting and illustrative of the topics discussed throughout the text. You must go through the text before reading the cases or you may be confused, but the terms are so well laid out that once familiar with them, the cases are quite easy to understand and you are able to brief them yourself! Will serve as an excellent reference and I have decided to keep it in my library.

I understand Jane Mallor to be top in her field. But since this book is geared toward a non-law student - a business student, I give this book a 1, and a zero if I had the chance.

This is being used as a text for a graduate level class. It is enjoyable to read, interesting, lucid, and well organized. The index and glossary are well structured. The authors make excellent use of bold text within the material and have plenty of helpful sidebar notes.

Good Introduction to Business Law.......2006-07-29

This was the textbook for an introductory course in business law I took. It does a great job at laying the groundwork of the US legal system and explodes many common myths. A large amount of material is covered clearly and consisely. The chapters on contracts and constitutional law alone are worth the price of the book. The authors do a good job hitting the high points and not getting bogged down in details that are inappropriate for an introductory course.

There are a few typographical errors that carried over to the thirteenth edition and ought to have been caught. Because this is a survey course, the reader may find supplemental material such as a law dictionary necessary to understand some of the finer points.

Informative, enlightening, and well-organized........2001-01-25

Like many Americans, I didn't know much about our country's principles of government or its legal system. This book helped me to become more knowledgeable about both. I admit, this is not reading I would choose to curl up with in front of the fire; this was part of a requirement for my MBA. However, I will remember what I've learned in this text long after my class ends. Having previously been clueless about the legal system, it is now exhilarating to read about, say, how the nine US Supreme Court Justices are dealing with the aftermath of the Gore vs. Bush debacle and actually understand what is going on. The chapters are well-organized and easy to understand. There are even helpful study tips and ways to brief a legal case in the beginning of the text. After completing this book, I not only feel better equipped to handle business decisions, but also feel empowered and enlightened for better understanding our great country.

This book is a great reference for anyone who enjoys collecting pooh. I recommend it to any collector. The only complaint I would have is that: there are two books, "Winnie the Pooh Collectibles" and "Winnie the Pooh Collectibles II". I do not think this site did a very good job of distinguishing between the two. I am looking to buy the first book.

This book is a must have for the avid Winnie the Pooh collector. Pages 8-47 are just on stuffed characters. It starts with very early plush characters and continues onward with newer ones. The next section, entitled "Ceramic Pooh and Friends", encompasses a variety of things. For example, cups, banks, plates, bookends, cookie jars, snow globes, musicals, picture frames, and figurines. This section also has platic figurines and Christmas Winnie the Pooh items.

There are pictures of each item along with a description underneath or beside it. The excerpts below each picture tell who or where the item was made, the year it was released, a detailed description, and how much each item is worth.

Overall, this book is very useful and easy to use. It is very helpful in showing how much an item is worth. Any Winnie the Pooh fan will enjoy this in their collection.

This is a great book. It lists many of the more common items and their prices so that you can actually see the value of items that you (may) own! Wonderful photographs and detailed information about the items.

Great for beginners!.......2001-04-03

I really like this book, and it has provided me with a decent amount of information without being overwhelming. A good number of cultivars are covered (although just a smattering of the thousands that are out there) and includes plenty of care instructions. It also has ideas on various methods of growing fuchsia plants (e.g., shaping plants, bonsai, etc.) and for using the blossoms in floral arrangements. Lots of color photos throughout it's 108 pages.

Ultimately disappointing.......2004-10-28

Although it is nice to have a volume that takes the Elvis Presley screen oeuvre at least somewhat serious, "Elvis: The Hollywood Years" seems to have been compiled by a European author unfamiliar with American show business history at large and whose "research" was limited to secondary British sources. How else could he possibly have come to the conclusion that "Uncle" Milton Berle was a "chubby comedian," or that Steve Allen proved to be a "stuffy" bigot? (The author obviously confuses Allen with Ed Sullivan) Or marvel over the fact that "G.I. Blues" beat "The African Queen" at the box-office. (Why shouldn't it have; "The African Queen" was celebrating its 10-year anniversary in 1961.) And on and on it goes. Never mind that according to author Bret half of Hollywood was gay, including -- hint, hint -- Elvis himself!; that, after all, has become de rigeur for this type of hit-and-run film book.

Good read with lots of detail.......2006-11-10

Billy Mitchell was a real war hero who did more for America than most people realize; and for those historians who are, in fact, aware of his pioneering achievements, they rarely pay him the full amount of credit he earned during his lifetime. After reading this book, one is awestruck by General Mitchell's ability to predict the future, and cannot but wonder why few took him seriously. Had the political leaders done so prior to WWII, thousands of lives subsequently lost in the Pacific would have been spared on both sides.

There is so much to learn about Elizabeth the 1st. In The Life and Times of Elizabeth the 1st, by Neville Williams an abundant amount of information is given about Elizabeth's life before and during her reign as Queen of England. Before Elizabeth became Queen she suffered through a rough childhood without a mother, being called horrible names by people and being imprisoned by her own sister. During her reign as Queen, Elizabeth had to deal with life in court, religious matters and being courted often by suitors, yet choosing to rule on her own. This book also has many illustrations, which helps you in your understanding of the book.

I felt this book had a lot of useful information about Queen Elizabeth's life. I also found it a very intriguing read. This book relates to the book To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee. In To Kill A Mockingbird Atticus shows courage. He shows courage when he took Tom Robinsons case and tried to save him even though he knew in doing so he knew it could possibly hurt him and his family. Like Atticus Elizabeth also showed courage. She showed courage when she chose to rule England on her own even though she was being pressured to marry. There is so much to learn about this incredible monarch and what she went through throughout her life. I would recommend this book for ages 12 and up.

Elizabeth is the subject of scores of biographies and this isn't one of the better ones. Williams' writing style is OK, but not deeply engaging, and he glosses over some of the most interesting periods in Elizabeth's life. The book is well-illustrated and is a decent introductory biography of Elizabeth, but it lacks the depth and insight any biography of this amazing woman should offer.
