Book Description
From exploring the myriad of historical sites packed into the world-famous Centro neighborhood and dining on Mexican-Asian fusion cuisine to viewing the renowned paintings of Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, David Siquieros, and Jose Clemente Orozco, Moon Handbooks Mexico City is the guide to the best the city has to offer, both on and off the beaten path. Practical information includes suggested travel strategies and lists of must-see sights, plus essentials on dining, transportation, and accommodations for a range of budgets. Complete with details for day-trips to wander the colonial village of Tlalpan, climb the pyramids of Teotihuacan, or hike to see Monarch butterflies in forest reserves, Moon Handbooks Mexico City gives travelers the tools they need to create a more personal and memorable experience.
Customer Reviews:
The traveling Bible.......2007-09-25
Although this guide was a bit out dated and recommended resturants on the more expensive side, the maps and information were perfect. I accompanied it with Mexico City: An opinionated guide for curious travelers and the combination was PERFECT. The Opinionated Guide was more about the culture and the inside of Mexico City whereas Moons Guide was a bit more turisty. In the Moons Guide we were able to get a brief history of each sight. I would most definitely recommend this book. If you are traveling to more than one city in Mexico though, I would probably get an all encompasing book. This book is a bit large to carry in addition to others. But this one is GREAT for Mexico City and the places surrounding it.
Excellent Resource.......2007-03-30
This book is an excellent resource when you are traveling to Mexico City. Very comprehensive and well written. We spent a week in Mexico City and we didn't scratch the surface of the City or what this book has to offer. I recommend it.
Not enough info if you plan to use the metro.......2007-03-15
True, this book does have a lot of information about Mexico City. On that end, I was relatively pleased, however, this book does nothing other than give you a street address or intersection to help you find a destination. This book will not help you if you plan to walk and use the metro as the maps do not contain enough detail for you to plan your route from metro station to your desired destination. Thankfully I had Let's Go Mexico. While Let's Go did not have near the detail of Moon's Mexico City (it is, after all, a book on the entire country), it would list the nearest metro station along with the address of the destination. On a different note, I was disappointed that this book did not warn me about choosing Sunday as a day to shop at the artisan markets. Those markets that this book pointed out were open on Sunday had a reduced selection and many closed stalls.
A solid guide to Mexico City.......2007-02-26
The Moon Handbook to Mexico City was sufficiently comprehensive for a five-day trip, including a side trip to Teotihuacan. It's nothing fancy: the writing is strictly utilitarian but what it lacks in flair it makes up for in scope. Navigating an urban center as large as Mexico City you need a book like this--it tells you what you need to know about nearly every area of interest to a tourist. When visiting a city of 20 million I'll gladly sacrifice flair for details, especially where safety and security are concerned. In this respect Moon delivered.
And while other reviewers may complain that the maps the book contains are inadequate, don't forget that Mexico City is, by any number of different metrics, one of the world's largest cities. Almost ANY map will be inadequate. And while the Moon Guide's maps could certainly have been more detailed, they are, like the written portion, solid and comprehensive. Bottom line: the Moon Handbook will get you through Mexico City, but the fun times and memories will be up to you.
Very Complete, but poorly organized.......2006-10-22
This book has the most complete information on Mexico City and the surrounding area that I've seen! The information on hotels, attractions, and transportation well-written and informative. Even better, the book covers almost every conceivable place near Mexico City that you could go for a day/weekend trip.
If you intend to go to Mexico and visit places in and around Mexico City, this is the only book you will need. Lugging around a 1,100-page Lonely Planet guidebook is not necessary.
The biggest flaw of this book is the organization -- the neighborhoods are covered in a piecemeal way, and it's nearly impossible to figure out where things are in relation to each other. To deal with the immense size of Mexico City, the author decided to break the city up into non-overlapping neighborhoods and treat them almost like separate cities. The result leaves you knowing what you want to see but not knowing exactly how to get there. (The other cities covered in the book do not have this problem.)
Other Mexico City guidebooks will probably have this problem, because the city is just too huge.
On an extended visit to Mexico City, this book should be supplemented with a good street map or a knowledgeable hotel employee.

This is great stuff. Research is amazing. Should be in the library of all history and politics buffs. Larger than normal print makes it easy to read.
"Fighting Frank" Carvell: Partisan and Patriot.......2004-02-02
A must for anyone interested in 20th century Canadian History! Lucidly written it details the political career of Frank Broadstreet Carvell, a country lawyer from Woodstock, New Brunswick who led the Liberal hunt for Tory scandals from 1911 -1917. He uncovered the Southampton Railway Scandal, formulated bribery charges against J. Kidd Flemming (NB's popular premier) and prosecuted him out of office and then accused the federal Government of Robert Borden of patronage in handing out shell contracts during the early years of the Great War.
By 1917, this caustic partisan critic had risen to the second most powerful Liberal in Canada and was destined to succeed Sir Wilfred Laurier when he parted with his leader over the issue of conscription, thereby sacrificing his political career by voting in favor of the Military Service Act.
A very good story told in the backdrop of Federal and Provincial politics during the Great War.
Book Description
"Andy" Anderson pioneered postwar bush service to Alaska's Koyukuk River region, serving Natives, sportsmen, adventurers, and assorted "bush rats."
Customer Reviews:
As It Was........2007-08-25
The book is an accurate account of an unusual pioneer. I knew Andy, back in 1952, and have ridden in the Wien Norseman, with Andy piloting. If there is any fault to be found with his story, it is that it is understated.
Typically reserved, his account does not linger on the incredible cold and loneliness that was his lot on many of his journeys. His willingness to go to the rescue of lost and injured miners and trappers, at great risk to his own life and safety, testify to his own character.
Andy, and the pilots of his time, benefitted from the experience of his friend and mentor, Noel Wien. The pilots of today fly the routes that Andy pioneered.
I recommend the book, "Arctic Bush Pilot" to any who hunger for a taste of how it used to be, in the remote Arctic Circle regions of Alaska.
Not what I expected, but good none the less........2005-10-10
I bought this book expecting it to read about Bush flying. Much of it is devoted to the people the author had dealings with and the environment of Alaska.
This was still very interesting and I enjoyed reading the book. There is a fair bit about bush flying however I was expecting a bit more.
The book is a very nice read and I would recomend it to people interested in bush flying and post WWII Alaska.
Arctic Bush Pilot.......2005-08-13
Excellent book, fast shipping, great packaging. Thank you. Also I might add I received 3 more books from you which I was notified that they might arrive here by the 23rd, they arrived yesterday, the 12th. Super service. Thanks again.
Awesome book about the brave bush pilots!!!.......2005-05-15
This is a FANTASTIC book!! I simply could not put it down!! I bought it on the day I departed on my 4th trip to Alaska...the flight passed so quickly as I read page after page!!
I read with great interest the section about Jules Thibedeau, my First Cousin who was a bush pilot from Barrow, AK in the 50's and 60's...his comments about Jules, "The Walking Pilot" brought back memories of the stories I heard as a child about my cousin who would fly anywhere, at anytime, to help anyone in Alaska...a guy who was truely a "tough-luck, no-money" pilot who cared more for the people he helped than he did his own well-being many times.
Anderson's comments came back to life for me during that trip as I visitied Barrow for the first time...only to have an 80+ year-old Eskimo woman tell me how my cousin had saved her son when he was young kid...Jules had flown out in a blizzard to bring her sick child back to Barrow...
Bravo to Mr. Anderson on a "must read" book!!

ODE TO ANDY
A COLD DAY IN 73' - A DAY THAT IS MORE THAN SPECIAL TO ME
JUST ANOTHER DAY ONE MIGHT SURMISE BUT THAT DAY I WAS IN FOR A PLEASANT SURPRISE
ALL MY LIFE I HAD LONGED TO FLY, BUT NOW THE YEARS WERE PASSING ME BY.
ON THE LADDER OF LIFE, NEITHER OLD OR YOUNG,
I WAS NOW ON THE 37TH RUNG
THE EVENTS OF THE DAY, NOT PREVIOUSLY ARRANGED
MADE FOR THE DAY MY LIFE WAS CHANGED.
I'VE CHASED MANY RAINBOWS AND MANY DREAMS DID PURSUE
AND ON THIS DAY MY FAVORITE DREAM CAME TRUE.
WHEN I PULLED INTO THE AIRPORT IN GREENE COUNTY PA.
I JUST HAD THE FEELING THIS WAS MY LUCKY DAY.
AS I WALKED INTO HIS OFFICE, MY PRESENCE TO EXPLAIN
SAID I AM HERE TO LEARN TO FLY A PLANE.
THEN i'LL TAKE A SHOT AT IT, JIM ANDERSON'S MY NAME.
LITTLE DID I KNOW WHO WOULD PUT ME TO THE TEST
FOR I HAD JUST SIGNED UP TO BE TAUGHT BY THE BEST.
AND I RECALL OUR FLIGHTS AND THE MULTITUDE OF THRILLS
THAT I EXPERIENCED AS HE HELPED MY HONE MY SKILLS
WITH A MANNER THAT WAS EASY AND A VOICE THAT WAS SOFT
HIS STYLE NEVER VARIED WHETHER AGROUND OR ALOFT
HE TOOK HIS WORK SERIOUSLY THOUGH SOMETIMES HE WOULD TEASE
BUT WITH NO OTHER MENTOR WAS I EVER MORE AT EASE.
OH HOW I MARVEL AT THE THINGS HE HAS DONE
FOR HE WAS A PIONEER BUSH PILOT IN THE LAND OF THE MIDNIGHT SUN
FLYING THROUGH THE MOUNTAINS AND LANDING ON THE LAKES
WHERE YOU HAVE TO DO IT PROPERLY OR PAY FOR YOUR MISTAKES
WITH GOD AS HIS COPILOT HE ALWAYS MADE THE RUN
HIS LIFE HAS BEEN REWARDED FOR THE DEEDS HE HAS DONE.
AND I KNOW OLD WEST VIRGINIA IS PROUD OF THEIR NATIVE SON
AS ARE ALL OF US WHOSE HEARTS HE HAS WON.
NOW THE LIFE OF THIS ARCTIC BUSH PILOT IS AT LAST PUT INTO PRINT
OF THE YEARS IN THE ARCTIC AND HOW THOSE YEARS WERE SPENT
AND ANDY, I AM MOST REWARDED WHEN YOU CALL ME A TRUE FRIEND
I WANT ALWAYS TO BE DESERVING OF THAT TITLE TO THE END
SO LET ME CLOSE BY SAYING TO YOU AND YOUR LOVELY WIFE
I BECAME A WHOLE LOT RICHER THE DAY YOU CAME INTO MY LIFE
GOD BLESS AND KEEP YOU, ANDY
YOUR FRIEND AND LITTLE BROTHER
BOB WOOD
THIS ODE TO ANDY WAS WRITTEN BY ONE OF THE PILOTS ANDY TAUGHT TO FLY. HE HAS REMAINED A FRIEND OVER THE YEARS AND WHEN ANDY HAD HIS STROKE BOB SAT DOWN AND WROTE THIS MEMO TO HIM. BLESS YOU BOB

Book Description
The true life story of Canadian Arctic bush pilot Don C. Braun is must reading for aviation fans everywhere. His fireside narrative plus 32 pages of photos capture the spirit and adventures of the first man to land a wheeled aircraft at the North Pole. Born on a farm near St. Cloud, Minnesota, in 1913, Don built and flew a glider as a teenager and then operated an aircraft repair shop at Harlem Airport in Chicago in the 1930's. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941 and flew the North West Staging Route from Edmonton to Alaska. His first bush flying was in an RCAF Norseman during the war years, and he went on to become one of the best known and most respected Canadian Arctic bush pilots of his time. He joined with Max Ward in getting Wardair off the ground as a small charter operation out of Yellowknife in the 1950's. While Max grew Wardair into one of the world's premier charter airlines, Don preferred the cockpit and the North. His stories of close calls and life in the North always spoke his mind, and this handsome book does no less. The Artic Fox, as he was known in the North, was superbly resourceful, bailing himself out of tight situations almost daily in his days of High Arctic flying. A great pilot and an even better mechanic, Don shares details aviation fans will know and love. This is your book, pilots and all others who love flying.
Customer Reviews:
American in Canadian Skies.......2000-10-31
Don Braun volunteered to fly for the Canadians during WWII and stayed in Canada after the war as a bush pilot. Don flew the far North with Wardair from the begining and proved himself to be a talented pilot in an unforgiving land. I found the stories to be well written and usually fascinating. Don was a pro in a type of flying that did not tolerate fools or mistakes. He pioneered some of the early routes and bush airstrips.
Although a bit homespun at times the stories themselves overshadow any tendency for skimming. I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to readers that enjoy Northern flying and adventure stories. There are not many books on Canadian bush flying, most are about Alaskan pilots. This one is one of the better accounts of post WWII Canadian flying.

Book Description
If you'd love to have a dog, but are afraid of making a mistake in purchase, housebreaking methods, or everyday canine care, here's the book for you. In short, here's the perfect book for beginners! The author starts with advice on finding a good breeder or reputable pet store--avoiding unscrupulous puppy farms and disreputable dealers. Readers also learn how to cope with their puppy's important and sometimes difficult first night at home, a time when most little dogs cry for their mothers and littermates. Instruction that follows deals with house-breaking, coping with chewing, assimilating puppies and children in the same household, controlling barking, living with energetic dogs, and much more. A special chapter gives advice to experienced owners who choose "difficult" breeds, or find themselves having to deal with special behavior problems. The book has attractive color photos on most pages, plus a wealth of quick-reference tips in eye-catching sidebars.
Customer Reviews:
Great first dog book for the prospective owner........2002-01-01
This is a great first book to read if you are think of getting a dog or puppy in the future. It has excellent pictures illustrating the techniques discussed in the text. It gives a realistic picture of what is involved in selecting and training your puppy from day 1 when you bring it home. It says nothing I consider in my opinion "wrong". The book also focuses on socialization and positive training right from the begining, and you cannot do more "right" than that!
Book Description
More than 150 orchid genera are described, each accompanied by a superb Marion Sheehan illustration that shows a representative species; all display the same structures in similar views so that the reader can easily compare the variations among genera. In 1995, the authors received the American Orchid Society's Gold Medal of Achievement.

well-written self-indulgent tripe.......2002-05-27
This book is genuinely mean-spirited. The author is full of her "poor little gorgeous me" self-pity, which she amplifies with cardboard characterizations of her unliked relatives and tiresome references to old movies - not that she brings any original insights to these.
The great sin of this novel is that the writer/narrator sets herself up as a diva of pain. It takes a while for you to realize that everyone in the book except this woman is in pain. She it seems is thin, rich, happily married and scornful. All those around her are fair fodder for her cruelty. And while I daresay the childhood she describes was awful, her total lack of interest in anyone other than herself serves as an effective dampening to your pity.
I'm a very non-critical reader and I love almost all books. I hated this.
