This is a very good, informative book, written with warmth and humour by someone who obviously has a great affection for the area and it's people. I've visited Salt Lake City for the last 4 years as a tourist and, as I read this book I'm back there smiling at it's quirks, looking around it's buildings, eating in it's restaurants and shopping in it's malls. The book is as easy going as the place it describes and is written logically, filling the reader in with the history and background before moving them around the city with added knowledge and appreciation of all that's there. This book will be my companion when I visit again this year. Oh and why only 4 stars - colour photographs instead of black and white please!

A guidebook should do two things. First, it needs to present a lot of factual information about places in the area it describes. Second, it must evaluate the places in a way that is useful to its target audience. This book meets the first requirement: it gives some historical information about the Salt Lake area and it describes many stores, restaurants, hotels, and other locations that will interest travelers. It also talks about health care, education, and other topics that are useful to people considering moving to SLC. Unfortunately, this Insider's Guide fails the second requirement by describing pretty much everything in glowing terms: if you believe this book, everyone is nice, the restaurants are all good, and you can't stay in a bad hotel. Compared to the more useful and frank evaluations found in the better guidebooks such as Rough Guide, Lonely Planet, or Let's Go, this book is definitely second class.

It has endless information on Career Possibilities for Bookworms, Careers in Libraries, Careers in Book Publishing, Careers in the Private Sector, Careers with Magazines and Newspapers, Careers in Glamour Industries, Careers in Education, Careers in Research, Careers with the Government, More Career Opportunities for Bookworms.

This book gives an insight of the vision the authors have for old and new professionals in the field.

One may wonder why all this focus on print medium, and not a single chapter dealing with new incarnations of the book: e-books, desktop publishing, etc. Hope and pray the next edition will incorporate the newer paths, and show that the box is not limited, anyways.

How to Get Paid to Read for a Living.......2003-06-03

If "book" is your favorite four-letter word, and you are looking for ways to get paid to read, then Careers for Bookworms and Other Literary Types can be your inspiration to find a new way to earn a living. While the authors explain in simple language the familiar jobs in the book industries, such as publishing, libraries and teaching, they also think way outside the box to present other jobs in which you can read for a living. Some are practical and some really stretch the definition of reading. For instance, would avid readers really think that reading fan mail for a celebrity or examining college applications would fit their interests? The most practical value of Careers for Bookworms are the interviews with real people who work in the jobs described and who explain how they, indeed, read for a living. The authors give the path a person has to take from entry level to the highest positions in each job and industry and also give information about trade organizations, job listings and other resources to help you find these jobs. The bottom line is that just about everyone has to read to some extent to do a better job, but this book is full of ideas for careers that might not have occurred to you. Whatever your interest, you are sure to find a way to incorporate reading into your job description.

Disappointing.......2003-03-10

Unlike the other reviewers, I found this book to be less than helpful. Yes, it does talk some about different literary-related fields, and I stress some, but the book lacks serious discussion of those careers. Plus, it gives limited resources for finding out more information....no websites and no mention of other literary career-related books. It only lists a few professional associations for each career. Also, there were no surprises as to which careers were selected, such as...becoming a librarian. If you just want a taste of what literary careers are out there, this book is worth a skim at your local bookstore, but if you really want to find out about these careers, follow up with books specifically geared toward a particular career.

The book describes the particular field in which a Bookworm can utilize their skills ( librarian, teacher, copy editor, etc.), tells you of any educational requirements needed, and gives a brief bibliography of additional resources at the chapter's end.

Careers for Bookworms is good in that introduces you to the various careers out there available for advid readers. Unfortunately it fails to discuss any internet possibilities for bookworms. Although it lists the jobs available, it fails to give in depth descriptions as to how one finds these jobs. The book certainly needs a revision but is a good start in those seeking career opportunities in reading books.

I used Interpet Products available from my local garden centre and I decided to check out some of the books advertised with their products and so ordered the "Your Healthy Garden Pond".
I have read this book and found it a very useful reference,easy to read and with good illustrations. I would recommend it to anyone with a small garden pond.

Must Read for a Healthy Pond.......2007-08-13

This is a very good book for those who already have a pond. It does not get into the design and construction of ponds, but concentrates on maintaining the pond you have. This is exactly what I was looking for. I did not need to design or construct a pond; however, I did need the knowledge to maintain an existing pond, and this book fit the bill perfectly.

It covers:
* Water quality - the nitrogen cycle and what tests you need to perform
* Filtration - types of filters, filter media, cleaning filters
* Algae and plants - types of plants and how to grow them, how to contain algae
* Fish - the different types of fish suitable for a pond and how to diagnose problems
* Pond cleaning - when and how to clean the pond
* Seasonal maintenance. - fall and winter preparations

Also this book is illustrated with many full color pictures so you can see clearly what the author is talking about.

It has some pretty good pictures but I was expecting more. Also, I think it has a somewhat confusing layout and I find myself have to flip from front to back to find answers to 1 plant. It's an interesting read but I haven't really used it to help identify plant diseases which is what I bought it for.

I checked out this book from the local library along with 30 others to browse through for a problem I was having in my garden. This was the ONLY book that helped me solve the problem. There are many, many vivid and realistic pictures. The text was simply written and the book was put together quite well.

There's only a couple picture of pests controlling insects, so I still don't know wich are they, only their names.

There's a wide list of pets and deseases, but there isn't much information in how they can be controlled.

This is my absolute favorite gardening book. It is so beloved that it needs to be replaced... yet it cannot! It has extremely practical information for people who wish to use organic pest control and other healthy gardening methods. It is extremely well organized and a breeze to use. I'm so upset that it is not available! I don't WANT another book, I want THIS one!
