very limited in scope. The drawings are good enough for identification but they are common plants rather than some of the more unusual that are around.

Book Description
Boom, cracked the thunder, almost immediately after the lightning had turned the sky from ink black to so bright you had to squint. The gale was forcing us back towards the treacherous African coastline, on this my first trans Atlantic sail. Truthfully, my first sail ever! Cast ashore in the West Indies, one adventure followed another in this true-life quest to spread my wings. Humor and local color are generously added to the mix. Parents, don't let your daughters leave home until you've read this book.

OK, So Now I Know Too!.......2004-02-17
This is a must read for any young lady out there. Good for older ones too, so they can find out what they missed. And, let's not forget those parents who are nervous about a potentially adventurous daughter, or anyone for that matter who likes a good read.
This girl does it all and manages to learn a few tricks along the way, one of them becoming an qualified pilot.
A great read! Curl up into a comfy chair and enjoy it
Riveting adventure.......2004-01-03
A real-life adventure that reads like fiction, Lorri Morgan's letters to her mother chronicle an adventurous young life unhampered by fear of the unknown. Ms. Morgan had been encouraged by her mother, who had been unable to travel, to take advantage of her freedom, her youth, her wit, and her sheer physical skill, to experience the world fully. And she does. Her adventures are leavened with a clear sense of self. The book is engagingly written with wry humor and total lack of self-conscious sentimentality. This is a must-read.
OK, So Now I Know in review.......2003-12-28
Ok,So Now I Know is the first published work of Lorri Morgan. A free spirited California surfer girl who decides to go traveling. In the early 70's while many of us were day-dreaming about globe hopping from one adventure to the next, Ms. Morgan was out there doing it. We first encounter her in the Canary Islands as she prepares to board a small sailboat with three Swedish men for a transatlantic voyage to the Caribben. We follow her through the next several years spent principally in the Caribbean, but with forays into Central and South America as well as mainland Europe. She chronicles her story by way of a series of letters sent home to her mother as well as a running narrative of her adventures. Blessed with athletic good looks and a quick wit she has no problems accumulating friends and lovers along the way. We watch as she becomes accustomed to life in the islands, learns sailing, diving, and to pilot a small plane. I found myself asking over and over again, why didn't I do this?
What we learn here is that it is possible to live our dreams. This would be a good read for any young person that might be contemplating life beyond the safe environs of home. Stuff your pack and go.
A REAL LIFE SURVIVOR.......2003-12-28
This is a true story of a young woman exploring the world, often by herself and on a limited budget. She learned to sail and she learned to fly, all in the beautiful backdrop of the West Indies. What an adventure!! Her experiences are detailed with humor and reflections on the good times and the difficult times. Her courage to set off on her own, at such a young age, is an inspiration. Instead of watching "real life" on TV, turn off your set, and read a book about a REAL LIFE.
What an ADVENTURE!!.......2003-12-25
This book recalls the adventures of a young woman exploring the world one day at a time, often on a shoestring budget, going places and seeing things that most people only dream about.
Encouraged by her mother to experience life and travel, Lorri shares her always fascinating, sometimes terrifying adventures through letters home and personal recollections.
During her time in the West Indies, Morgan helped crew on a number of sail boats, learned to fly in order to support a fledgling business, and met many interesting and colorful people.
Her account is a first person travelogue and coming of age experience that depicts the "let's see what will happen next" attitude of a remarkable young woman.
Book Description
Stories that address the grieving process of humans and animals who have lost their companions and that give advice on how best to help yourself and others recover
• Gives practical advice on recovery, including self-care, support systems, and homeopathic recipes, and also discusses the painful topic of euthanasia
• The first book to address the topic of animal grief at the loss of a companion, explaining how to recognize grief in animals and how to help them heal
Anyone who has lost a treasured animal companion knows that this can be as devastating as losing a human loved one. Unfortunately, our society's sympathy with this loss is not commensurate with the actual grief people feel. Kaetheryn Walker fills this void by presenting true stories of the grief process she and others went through after the death of their animal companions. She gives practical advice on recovery, including daily self-care, support systems, and homeopathic remedies, and discusses the painful topic of euthanasia as well. Her book is also the first to address the important topic of animal grief at the loss of a companion. She explains how to recognize grief in animals and how to help them heal.
Customer Reviews:
A great reference for helping animals.......2006-05-04
I actually lost my copy of this book, and I've added it to my wish list so I can replace it. The book is written in anecdotal format; the author uses case studies from her practice to demonstrate how particular remedies are used in particular cases of grief/shock. You don't have to be a Ph.D. or a hugely experienced homeopath to use this book.
Over the years I have used recommendation from this book to help animals recover from the death of their owners and abandonment in shelters. My most recent rescue--a cat who had been surrendered to a shelter when his former owner became too sick to take care of him, almost died while in the shelter (from illness and a broken heart), found a home and then was kicked back to the shelter due to behavior issues, and finally moved into my house, where he lives happily and peacefully with my two older cats--benefited profoundly from the advice given in this book. Only yesterday I was able to use information I remembered from this book to help a baby goat whose mother orphaned him.
If you are looking for a book to help YOU recover from pet loss, this book isn't for you. There are numerous books on the market to help humans recover from pet loss. This book is designed for you to help your animal companion cope with his or her grief and emotional turmoil after losing a beloved human or animal friend.
One word of caution: The author (and I) believe that animals have souls and feelings--NOT that animals are people in fur suits, but that animals have feelings which they manifest in their own way unique to their species. If this approach to animal welfare is too "woo woo" for you, you may want to give this book a miss. But if you are interested in homeopathy and you sense that your animal is depressed or otherwise traumatized by a loss, this book will be a great reference tool. Shelter workers and animal "foster carers" could benefit from this book, too.
Helpful and pactical.......2002-02-02
I am a volunteer foster mom for kittens and cats, having had about 200 animals adopted.I deal with animal loss-I have to deal with cats I raised in my home and personally feel the loss and adopters who call me in tears and are very distresses. I recommend this book-probably because it doesn't have poetry and stories that move readers to tears, I find people can read that their feelings of loss are very valid and extremely personal-and it helps. I am not a professional but I am asked for help when an animal is ill or passed away and this book is short enough that readers will stay with it. The homeopathic part of this book is not for everyone-probably only a small portion of animal owners. But I followed some suggestions and as they say "It can't hurt to try!"
This book is a homeopathic materia medica for animals.......2000-11-10
I think potential buyers of this book should not be deceived by the title into thinking that it is a guide to healing from pet loss, as I was. The author is a fervent, not to say fanatic, veterinary homeopath. What starts out as personal anecdotes about euthanizing or losing beloved pets turns into anecdotes about rescuing traumatized animals (surely a laudable thing) and healing them with things like Natrum muriaticum (chloride of sodium)and Borax (borate of sodium). As a pet lover myself, I'm the last to point a finger at someone who anthropomorphizes animals, but I do start wondering when animal emotions are supposedly "understood" by a human to such a fine degree - is it really possible to distinguish "rage in general" vs. rage from being left alone" vs. "rage at having the throat touched", and that each of these different rages can be cured by a different herb? Perhaps it is possible, and since the author believes in long-distance telepathic communication with animals, perhaps she knows something that I don't. The communication I have experienced from animals has truly been deeper than anything I was ever taught could be possible - but I wonder if layering on too much human emotion spoils the purity, the difference of relating to an animal rather than another human. The book makes several good, though not original points; that giving our pets a peaceful end to suffering requires great courage of the heart, that animals do suffer emotional trauma and do grieve the loss of human or other animal companions. The human-animal bond is indeed a very special, very important bond to forge - the capacity to love another outside oneself is paramount to being a good human being. Becoming the "ambassador" for an animal requires commitment, watchfulness and care; what our companion animals give us in return is beyond measure. Had I been interested in learning homeopathic veterinary medicine, I would have purchased this author's other book "Homeopathic First Aid for Animals". If you are looking for a book to help you deal with grief at losing a beloved (pet of any type, parent, a love), buy "My Cat Saved My Life" by Philip Schreibman. It will help you much more.
AFTERWORD: (9/5/01) It is now almost a year since I lost my beloved 17-year-old cat, Hugo. I felt moved to add a few words to what I wrote about this book in 11/00. I want to clarify that I believe with all my being that our companion animals DO indeed understand us when we talk to them and and touch them and can even read our moods. (Read Anthony Gugielmo's book, "The Walrus on My Table"). And I hope with all my heart that telepathic communication between animals and humans and healing with homeopathic remedies occur. But I bought this book based on the title, which is such a comforting statement when you are grieving a loss..."the heart that is loved never forgets". It would have been the perfect title for the books "Angel Paws" and "Angel Whiskers", both books that deal with coping with the grief over losing a companion animal better than the above volume. I hold no quarrel with this this book, nor this author's point of view. I just wanted others in my situation to know that better solace for sorrow could be found elsewhere. I have moved on to rescue two other cats since I lost Hugo; a 10-year-old cat whose owner had to enter a nursing home and could not take his cat and a starving kitten from my driveway. I say this not to glorify myself, but to make the point that, no matter how much I love my other feline companions, the hole in my heart left by my bright spirit, Hugo's, absence will never be filled as long as I am alive. I know that I will meet him again, when, as they say, I go over the "Rainbow Bridge" myself. I also want to tell seniors and their relatives/dear ones something very important - the animal shelter community has changed. If you are lonely for an animal companion, but are resisting because you worry about whether you will "be around"...stop hesitating! There are MANY animals out there who would be so happy to share your life, no matter for how long! I never in the world thought I would adopt a 10-year-old cat (I am turning 50 this year); but I did and it was a revelation. Even if one or both of you has only a few years left, don't they deserve to be happy ones?, full of love? There are so many sad animal stories around, but we should realize that things ARE getting better, that some people DO care, and that love can be just around the corner, for today, for tomorrow, for who knows how long? And there will be others to pick up the torch and carry the love forward. God Blesses All Creatures, if one can but see.

Book Description
Here's twenty water garden designs that will bring elegant outdoor garden features inside the home. Designs come with step-by-step instructions, and cover a wide spectrum of choices to suit individual home interiors, available space, and budget considerations. The author discusses needed tools and equipmenteverything from pumps and filters for the water features to the required building materials for both raised and sunken indoor pools. The projects are presented in a series of detailed photos and diagrams that are complemented with instructive text. Projects include water gardens that range in size from a tabletop fountain decorated with small plants to a large sunken conservatory pool embellished with luxuriant tropical greenery and distinctive lighting and seating features. Other designs include room corner pools, room divider fountains, a shell grotto with a small pond, and even an indoor swimming pool with an adjoining water garden. Following the design projects are a detailed plant directory with cultivation advice, and a directory of appropriate fish breeds for various pond types and sizes. A concluding chapter offers detailed advice on indoor water garden maintenance. More than 200 full-color illustrations.
Customer Reviews:
Beautiful and Complete.......2004-03-17
This book is not only beautiful with full color images but delivers complete instructions for making simple water features to more intricate designs. You will be inspired to create your own designs as well as following the instructions between it's cover. At the very least this would make a beautiful "coffee table" book.
Small water features.......2003-05-17
Don't be fooled by the title - these are water gardens that will work indoors or out. This is the first book I've seen that focuses on SMALL water gardens. Usually I find that books on water gardens show a couple of small ones then go on to plan something they call a pond and I call a lake. I don't have space for a lake, but I do like having a water feature. Better still, I like two of them.
So I learned a lot from Yvonne Rees' book which gives careful plans, including construction suggestions for 20 small water gardens. Whether you build them inside or outside is up to you. Well illustrated, this book has information on plants and fish that will work well with each water garden, as well as tips for maintaining it. At the end of the book is a list of suppliers in the UK, US, Australia and New Zealand.
The first chapter, "Before You Start", helps you face up to some of the aspects of installing a water garden that you might not have considered. You need, for instance to consider the placement carefully. Where can the water garden best be seen? Where will it best fit into the rest of your garden? Where can guests enjoy it as you entertain, or where can it be a secret hideaway, just for you? If you would like a fountain or waterfall, where is the nearest electrical outlet?
The strength of this book lies in its practical advice for constructing raised or sunken water gardens. Most water gardens, except for those in pots, must be either raised or sunken and much of the success of either is based on careful planning and meticulous construction. Once the basics are safely in place you can relax and enjoy adding the finishing touches - you can make your water garden lush, or natural, contemporary or classical or combine the features of each that please you. You can add fountains, pebbles, plants or statuary. Making it into your dream pond is up to you. This book shows you how to tackle the project and how to adapt basic water features to your own style.
Some of the water gardens are fairly complex and you might find yourself calling in a contractor if you are not accustomed to construction projects. But all of the 20 designs can be adapted to simpler ponds, and all have a "Behind the Scenes" page showing how the work is done.
So if you have been dreaming of a water feature, but you didn't think you had enough space, or you didn't know what kind, or how to go about making it - enough with the excuses. Get this book, and get started on your water feature.
SMALL water gardens.......2003-05-15
Don't be fooled by the title - these are water gardens that will work equally well indoors or out. This is the first book I've seen that focuses on SMALL water gardens. I have to admit I got carried way mentally designing different ponds based on the author's ideas and, as I said, I already have two water features in a tiny garden. I was especially drawn to the herb tray. It was a long wooden box partitioned into three or five sections. The middle section contained a terra cotta pot, set in gravel, with a tiny fountain bubbling in its centre.
The other sections had similar pots sunk in gravel, each containing herb plants. In the book the author suggests a windowsill for this but outside you could put it in any sunny location with access to electricity for the fountain pump. The author shows you, with simple diagrams, how to make the box and the water feature and she suggests some herbs that would work well in this setting. Et Voila! A herb garden and a water feature in a very tiny space.
Some of the water gardens are much more complex than this and you might find yourself calling in a contractor if you are not accustomed to construction projects.
A real disappointment.......2002-07-31
While the litterature available on either water gardens or on indoor gardens is huge, there is still a gap when one is looking for ideas on how to introduce a water garden feature in the home.
Unfortunately, this book does not fill this gap. It is on most points overambitious when it does not simply go beyond its subject, for example when it comes to explanations on how to set up and maintain an aquarium or to treat a bonsai (there are a great many good books on both these topics).
Thus, any reader who is looking for concrete help to set up an indoor water feature is likely to be frustrated (as the author of this review is) due to the lack of real in depth guidance on either the aesthetical, technical or botanical aspects of such a project.
In other words, this book is a real disappointment.
