As might be expected with a book published in 1986, some of the information in this book has perhaps been superseded by later findings. But, I do think that, in general this book does give a good view of life in a Classical Roman town. Plus, I really enjoyed the excellent pictures and cutaways, which gave me a good understanding of what things actually looked like back then. If you, or your young reader, are interested in what the world of Classical Rome really looked like, and what their homes looked like, then I highly recommend this book to you.
The cash flow business is creating a whole new generation of success stories, and you can share in the wealth, whether you are looking for:
Full-blown self-employment
People all across America are making thousands to tens of thousands of dollars per month in this red-hot new business that has already been discovered and reported on in The Wall Street Journal and elsewhere. It does not require any special financial education or occupational background, nor is it restricted by age, nationality, or gender. It is open to anyone willing to learn the simple three-step cash flow process that author Laurence J. Pino explains so clearly in Cash In on Cash Flow.
Consider this: one out of every fifteen pieces of real estate sold in the United States involves an arrangement where a private individual takes back a note and receives payments long into the future. The sellers of eight out of ten businesses in the United States take payments over time. And consider lottery winners. After the initial excitement wears off and the reality sets in that lottery winnings will be spread over twenty years minus up-front taxes, the lottery winners realize that they've gotten too good at spending money before it comes in. What all of these people have in common is the fact that they are owed future payments but would prefer to receive an immediate lump sum of cash (even though it is smaller) rather than wait so long for these payments. The cash flow business deals with the buying and brokering of future payments just like these, from private individuals who want to trade mortgage notes, invoices, lottery winnings, car accident settlements, insurance policies, and other assets for a lump sum of cash. That's where a cash flow specialist comes in, and that is what this book is all about -- how you can become a specialist and earn handsome income on a part-time or full-time basis.
A pioneer in the cash flow business, Pino has perfected the system and written the first book on the subject. As a cash flow specialist, you will not be trying to sell products to friends, relatives, or neighbors. You don't have to "sign people up" to make money. And you don't have to make hefty capital investments. You can work when you want to, right from your home, according to your own lifestyle and income objectives.
And the best news? You don't even need your own capital to get started. If you've got capital, you can invest in cash flows and earn incredible yields on your money. If you don't, you can still earn substantial fees brokering cash flows to people who do. Cash In on Cash Flow explains it all, simply and clearly.

Bad Reviews On This Book Aren't Warranted.......2006-10-16
This book is actually written well. If you are thinking about getting into this business (note business) than I would highly suggest reading this book FIRST before you do! It does a good job explaining how the note business works and what different notes you can buy. There are about 60+ different kind of cash flow notes out there you can buy or broker to other buyers. The book talks about several kinds of different notes and gives you the details to help you familarize yourself with how the business works. I thought it was very informative and glad I bought it to learn about the note business.
Now, on the other hand...DO NOT BUY INTO THEIR REDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE SEMINAR COURSE THEY WILL TRY TO PRESSURE YOU INTO IF YOU GO TO ONE OF THEIR "FREE" TV INFOMERCIAL SEMINARS THEY HOLD AROUND THE COUNTRY!!! You can get furthur education on the business WAY cheaper from "reputable & honest" teachers in this business and save yourself a lot of money! As in the note business...do your due-diligence with online searches and reading reviews before you jump in.
Author can't be trusted.......2006-09-09
Do a Google search on Laurence Pino before you buy his book(s).
Put your money to better use.
Great for beginners...........2005-09-25
I've been a Note Broker/Cash Flow Specialist for 4 years now and I refer all of my trainees to this book. It's very detailed in defining the main debt instruments that dominate the industry and pointing you in the right direction of who to network with in order to generate business.
The one thing I disagree with is that the author claims you'll succeed part-time. Like any other profession, this one requires a lot of time and effort. And anyone who has experience brokering anything knows that good brokers make dozens, if not hundreds, of calls per day. If you like speaking over the phone and have the time, then this business will easily add a good $20-$40K to your annual income, possibly more.
Good book but not a 5 star.......2005-06-18
The only thing that bothered me about this book was that most of the information is repetitive. Again and again the same things are repeated. I would say, about 40% of the book could have been saved by eliminating the repetition. Book is well illustrated with examples and references. Have some sound ideas and advice. It did not have the thrill of a best seller. Has not the grip required to earn a 5 star rating.
Cash Flow by buying into debt.......2004-07-11
LARRY PINO is an expert at cash flow. He has studied his craft and when it comes to factoring, nobody does it better. Larry Pino also has that rare gift in that he knows how to teach very well what he has done so successfully himself.
If you are looking for a way to create wealth, increase cash flow, consider Larry Pino's excellent book. It's a winner and jam packed with ideas.

Customer Reviews:
For Anyone Who Loves Labrador Retrievers.......2004-01-09
Even though none of my four Labrador Retrievers hunts for anymore substantial than the errant squirrel or chipmunk that happens to scamper through my big back yard that the Labs haunt at every opportunity, I read this wonderful book with awe and surprise, for author Todd Berger has used both a pictoral and an amusing descriptive narrative approach sure to enchant the casual Labrador fan. This is a book devoted exclusively to field dogs, meaning that branch of the Labrador breeding tree tuned specifically to the needs and prerogatives of the hunter, and his or her quest for the perfect hunting companion, which the Labrador at his best certainly is.
Berger employs an electic mix of talented sports writers who relay entertaining personal anecdotes concerning their adventures with their own Labs, and as any Lab owner can tell you, the dogs have such loveable and irrascible personalities it impossible not to have such amusing tall tales to tell. Indeed, to me this book represents a virtual celebration of wonders and qualities of the country's most popular working dog, a dog now so universally recognized as to literally define what it means to have a "family" dog. This particulur volume now rests on my living room coffee table, with a number of other such books, and it always provides guests and visitors with grist for comparing what they see whirling around them by way of my own dogs with somewhat less frantic and worshipping models of the very dogs so many of us have come to love. Enjoy!

... a dog for all seasons ..........2001-03-15
I used to hunt a long time ago, but have since grown distant from any need to kill for sport ... so, I was initially rather hesitant about this purchase ... I've had the book for about a week now, gone through it from cover to cover, and must say the hunting element still disturbs me somewhat ... but the subject has been treated in the best possible manner ...
The book is well laid out, with quality paper and colour separation ... the photography is very good, the backdrops & landscapes breath taking ... the dogs themselves are shown at their best ... sharing quiet moments with their human partners ... running, playing and working in water ... and doing that which they excel ... retrieving. A wonderful book for all who love Labradors ... and can keep an open mind about hunting ...
If you only buy one labrador book, make it this one!.......2000-12-23
There are alot of labrador picture books, but this is one of the best I've seen. Not only is the photography technically suburb, but the unique ways in which these dogs are portrayed shows you how much Byran loves labs and how much time he spends around them. Mr. Bryan postulates in the intro that people who don't hunt can't really appreciate their lab's full potential. I don't hunt, so our lab is a family dog. But this book allowed me to understand what she's capable of and to appreciate her already fine qualities even more.

Book Description
Woody Ornamentals will take its place alongside the spade and trowel as an indispensable gardening tool for plant lovers in the Deep South. No other book offers such complete information about trees, shrubs, woody vines, and ground covers for USDA Zone 8, an area beginning at the Texas-Mexico border and cutting a wide swath across the Deep South.
When David Rogers retired after a life's work in botany and returned to his native Deep South, he discovered that many new cultivated plants and rare species from all over the world had been introduced into the gardens and landscapes. This comprehensive work also identifies the native flora that contribute handsome, hardy plants to residential landscaping, the many subtropical trees and shrubs that do not grow in more northerly gardens, and the fruit-bearing trees such as mandarin orange, sand pear, and new varieties of apple.
The plants are listed alphabetically in the book by their generic name. General information about the plantstheir appearance, growth and habit, with details about geographic origin, environmental requirements, and special featuresappears in easy-to-read prose. For those who designate plants by their common name, an index to the common names references the generic name, and an additional index references the family, genus, and species. Photographs of unusual species and 174 beautiful, detailed line drawings supplement the text. Extensive tables of horticultural characteristics and landscape planning aids provide an overview of each species in the categories of large, medium, and small trees, shrubs, woody vines, and woody ground covers.

Book Description
Jack Lemmon was one of our most beloved movie stars. A two-time Academy Award winner, he appeared in dozens of memorable films, including such classics as Some Like It Hot, Mister Roberts, The Odd Couple, Grumpy Old Men, Missing, The Apartment, and The China Syndrome. On-screen, he came across as a kind of "everyman"—audiences loved him because they felt they knew him, because he was on of them.
In A Twist of Lemmon, Chris Lemmon shares family tales, intimate father-son conversations, and anecdotes from and about his dad. The result is a vivid and enchanting portrait of a less-than-perfect father who in some ways assumed a greater reality for his fans than he did for his son. Chris writes about the difficulty of growing up in a broken home, the treasured time spent with his father, and the friendship that evolved as they came to share their passions for both music and golf. This very personal portrait provides new insight into a man who charmed millions with his rascal's smile and his very human vulnerability.
When Jack Lemmon died in 2001, the world lost one of its favorite actors, but Chris Lemmon lost the man he had admired above all others. A Twist of Lemmon is his warm and moving and often very funny celebration of his larger-than-life father.
Joining Chris in his tribute are a number of the people who worked with Jack Lemmon over thy years, including actor Kevin Spacey. In his foreword, Spacey writes, "He was a credit to his profession because he was a man whose humanity was bigger than his talent. And when you think for a moment about the size and depth of that talent, then you begin to understand how seriously he took his role as a human being."
In this first book of its kind written about Jack Lemmon, that "human being" comes fully alive—as an actor, a father, and a best friend. It is a heartwarming and discerning look at a true American legend.

A Twist of Lemmon and a Touch of Class.......2007-01-19
CL pays the ultimate tribute to his father in this classy portrayal of the supremely gifted father and the somewhat lonely but not lost son trying to sort out a complicated relationship made more complex amidst the mixed fortunes born of fame and celebrity and the tensions and heartaches that always come with divorce. This is a wonderful read that confirms much of the positive image that most people hold of the elder Lemmon while affirming the deep love that father and son were able to share in an environment that has split so many other families apart. Jack Lemmon was without doubt driven in terms of his career, but the measure of the man is that he reserved a part of himself for his son that was theirs and theirs alone.
both tart and sweet, it's Lemmonade.......2006-12-18
Recommended: A Twist of Lemmon: a Tribute to My Father, by Chris Lemmon
Chris Lemmon writes as though chatting with a friend, about the father he loved. I was drawn in by the humanity of the man and the honesty of his son, the author. According to Chris, Jack Lemmon was like an ornery little boy, a little like my own father. Both father and son were aware of Jack's strengths and shortcomings (drinking, a temper, over-dedication to his career). I think Jack Lemmon is probably recognizable in some person in everyone's life. STAR is not the picture drawn here.
There is some language that a few sensitive folks may find offensive; I did say he was ornery didn't I? However,I believe if those folks read on, they will be glad they did. There's nothing really vulgar, but some humor is pretty worldly. Chris says that one of his father's favorite lines to the nurses, even near the end, was "Wanna take a peek at Stiffy?" Alternating from hospital room to scenes from Jack's life Chris Lemmon creates a complete picture of the man without ever going Hollywood neon.
Jack Lemmon's son remembers his father.......2006-10-21
A twist of Lemmon is Chris Lemmon's literate, deeply-felt tribute to his father, the unique Jack Lemmon. CL wrote partly for his children, who must have liked his elk- and poodle-stories better than his golfer's yarn (but tell this to a golfer), partly because it helped him heal the big loss he felt.
An extraordinary insight into people's nature presented his highly-gifted father with a career that lasted half a century. Two oscars, eight nominations, best actor in Cannes (twice). There were times when he stood alone. His Billy-Wilder-films have no equal but he was proud of DAYS OF WINE AND ROSES 1962 and SAVE THE TIGER 1973 - he suffered creative agonies and was never happier. A committed democrat and environmentalist. "Experts" smiled at his breath-taking performance in THE CHINA SYNDROME 1979 - three weeks later fiction came true. No other film, except MISSING 1982 - about a father who searches for his son in Chilean morgues - made more headlines.
Many anecdotes revolve around "America's sweetheart" who wrecked jaguars and ferraris, did not make the cut at Pebble Beach and was chased by moose, eagles, bobcats and bears. He had great moral courage, though: The fact that he suffered painful operations during his childhood did not keep him from entering the navy (many heroes stayed in Hollywood) and make dangerous stunts. Too few films catch his "quirky, unpredictable, sweet devil side". He was one of Hollywood's most exciting stars.
A tribute is no platform for criticism and while CL drops many hints most of his concerns remain unspoken. Nobody could accuse CL of "nepotism". JL made it by himself and expected the same of his son. That he played small parts in his father's films is perfectly legitimate. It was a proud moment when his father was in the front row "applauding, whistling, wiping away a tear". Daddy's amazement that junior worked hard enough to buy a car is the book's comic highlight (the Paris-brothel-episode is not bad either). How I wish that CL could have protected his generous, trusting and compassionate father from all those well-meaning people who asked him favors and harmed his career (the man of flesh & blood belonged to his family but his reflexion on celluloid belongs to us). Neither could he influence his father's eating habits (cheeseburgers) despite a warning shot: CL lost his mother Cynthia Stone to cancer in 1988 (his book is of course a tribute to both parents who remained optimists to the end).
His parents divorced when he was three, both remarried and he commuted between two patchwork-families with younger sisters. He and his father had fishing-trips to Alaska ("it was only during those times that I felt he really belonged to me"), jam-sessions, golf. He excuses his father's "inadvertent irresponsibility" - he woke his father up with a triple-martini when he was six - but is still haunted by "that empty chair at dinner-table" and felt "in the doghouse" when separated from his father. He did not grow up in his father's household and survival was difficult for a son-of-the-first-marriage who was a teenager during the hippie-era. JL's second family was part of his everyday life and "the only person I think he ever did commit to totally was Felicia" - his second wife. "Pop and Felicia had been partying hard the night before...an airborne ashtray had sliced pop's forehead". JL's private life is still terra incognita (or "treasure island" for biographers).
His moving description of his father's last fight ("I never heard him complain once...his only concern during the final days was for us, his family") and his desperate attempts to tell the dying father what he did not say to the living one are the highest points in CL's book. Chemotherapy; radiation; the reprieve; devastating surgeries; colostomy; morphine; the respirator. But CL also writes: "He had too much pride to let us know if he was suffering". Memories of his fater who held him after his mother's burial counterpoint his account. He makes also an alarming confession: "I remember feeling hurt that no one had told him...that I'd been out there with him through those many weeks he's been unconscious" although he admits: "We'd all remained in a state of utter denial".
CL holds out to the end and his real, great merit is that he does without rose-colored-glasses because he understands that his father, about whom Kevin Spacey said that his humanity was even bigger than his talent, deserves the truth. I hope this book becomes a best-seller!
A character actor pays homage to his famous movie star father.......2006-09-13
Actor Chris Lemmon, not as famous as his late movie star father Jack pays homage to the elder Lemmon in this book. The elder Lemmon has done quite a few films throughout his career with his late longtime friend Walter Matthau. Chris' mother divorced Jack when Chris was a toddler. Chris became a cast member of one of Fox's first sitcoms,Duet, which ran from April 1987 to August 1989. Duet was then spun off as Open House which ran for nearly a year. Chris' character Richard Phillips and his wife Linda, played by Alison LaPlaca, were respectively,a patio furniture salesman and an executive film producer. Richard quit the retail business and became a cocktail lounge pianist. On the spin-off Linda went into real estate. Post-Duet-OH,Chris has had a series of guest roles on various shows. Hundreds of people, including Michael Douglas and his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones,attended memorial services for Jack in 2001. Jack was 75 years old when he passed away. I dedicate this book to Jack's memory.
well written but..........2006-09-02
depressing as each chapter starts with a final illness segment. Without that it would have been a MUCH better and more enjoyable book. It may have been cathartic and healing for Chris, but not so for me.

Book Description
Ed Lemmon managed the largest fenced pasture in the world (865,000 acres—an area larger than Rhode Island), bossed the single biggest roundup in history, held the record for the largest number of cattle (nine hundred) cut out, roped, and brought to the branding fire in a single day, and handled more cattle (more than a million head) than any other man.
Lemmon covered virtually every foot of range in western South Dakota and parts of Wyoming, Montana, and Nebraska on horseback and knew every important brand in the West. His recollections read like a who's who of the good old–bad old days: cattle kings and saddle tramps, stock detectives and cattle rustlers, stage-drivers and stage robbers, ranch wives and "scarlet poppies"—Ed Lemmon knew them all or had "heard tell."

Book Description
Jack Lemmon is known to audiences the world over for his roles in classic comedies of the 50s and 60s such as 'Some Like It Hot', 'Mr Roberts', 'The Apartment' and 'The Odd Couple'. But, in a film career that spanned over 45 years, he also excelled in ground breaking dramatic roles that sometimes riled Governments and raised social issues in every decade through to the 90s. For the first time, Call Me Bud examines this amazing career in film from his arrival in Hollywood fresh from the pioneering days of TV right through to his last appearances as the 21st century dawned. Along the way, the story takes in legendary Directors from George Cukor and Billy Wilder to Robert Altman, and writers from Garson Kanin through Neil Simon to David Mamet. Amidst all the Oscars and Emmy's too, there's time to look at the man's crucial ethos on acting, his unselfish support of those starting out in the business and the impact he had on so many other fine actors from Walter Matthau to Kevin Spacey. Often known as 'America's Everyman' for his approachability, the truth is that Jack Lemmon was an extraordinary man and actor. Over the course of almost 70 films, Call Me Bud shows just why.

Book Description
Maxwell E. Perkins, famed editor of such literary luminaries as F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway, Zora Neale Hurston, Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, and Thomas Wolfe, was a man whose personal and professional lives often intersected. Nowhere is this more evident than in his correspondence with Elizabeth Lemmon, the Virginia socialite who became his long-distance confidante. Despite the platonic nature of their relationship, others realized the intensity of their connection. The letters contained in As Ever Yours, published here for the first time, reveal an epistolary love story-and they provide fresh insights into Perkins the man and Perkins the editor.
Max first met Elizabeth in 1922 at the Perkins home in Plainfield, New Jersey. Immediately drawn to her stark beauty and southern charm, he struck up a correspondence with her that lasted until his death in 1947. As Ever Yours contains 121 of Perkins's letters to Lemmon as well as the 20 extant letters from Lemmon to Perkins; the rest are presumed lost or destroyed. Letters from Fitzgerald and Wolfe also shed light on the pair's dynamic relationship.
The letters make for compelling reading as Perkins details his personal life in New Jersey and Connecticut and his professional life in the New York publishing world. The writers he discovered, edited, and encouraged at Charles Scribner's Sons emerge as endearing and believable characters, brought to life in Perkins's vivid narrative voice. He is witty, self-deprecating, and painterly in his descriptions of people and locales together with the social milieu of his day. Protected by distance, Max used his letter-writing relationship to unburden himself in a way he could not with his coworkers, his authors, or even his wife-and these letters simultaneously highlight his editorial judgment and disclose his private feelings.
Expertly edited by Rodger L. Tarr, As Ever Yours will be important to students and scholars of the history of publishing. The Perkins-Lemmon letters illuminate the thoughts and experiences of the greatest literary editor of the twentieth century.
"When I found these cigarettes you had left I thought at first to keep them as a rememberance. But I am far from needing a rememberance."
-From Max Perkins's first letter to Elizabeth Lemmon, dated 14 April 1922

Groundbreaking Work on Early Nazism.......2007-06-23
Much attention has been focused by historians on the effects of the Nazi Party and its theories of racism/anti-Semitism in Germany and elsewhere once the Nazis consolidated their authority when the February 27, 1933 Reichstag fire gave them an excuse to seize total control through an emergency decree of power. Too little attention has been made to the formation and buildup of the Nazis' racial and social theories prior to their seizure of power.
The author of this fine work, "Goebbels and Der Angriff," fills a gap in the history of the Nazi Party by examining the impact of the Nazi propaganda newspaper "Der Angriff" (The Attack) from its inception in 1927 up to January 1933 when Hitler became Chancellor. Previously historians seemed to discount Der Angriff as nothing more than a little read, and even less effective, propaganda sheet.
Der Angriff was established by Goebbels in Berlin in 1927 when the Nazi Party was banned (and consequently so was Goebbels as a speaker for the party). The importance of the newspaper was disclosed by Goebbels himself once the Nazis took power: Goebbels exclaimed that Germany only needed two newspapers, the "Volkischer Beobachter" (roughly, the National/Nationalist Racialist Observer) and Der Angriff. Within the first six years of Nazi rule, i.e., by February 1939, over 1,000 independent non-Nazi newspapers in Germany went under, either from direct pressure by the government and/or an inability to compete with the Nazis' subsidized organs.
As Berlin in the 1930s was the largest city in Germany (and the second largest in the world), achieving political supremacy in that city was paramount to obtaining political power throughout Germany.
Russel Lemmons' book analyzes the content and recurring themes of what was really a powerful tool of the Nazi party that helped it to remain a force in German politics, and keep the party (i.e., its loyalists) together even though the party itself had been banned, albeit temporarily.
The book demonstrates that without a doubt the overarching theme of the Nazi Party from the outset was making the Jewish people scapegoats for everything that was wrong in Germany and the world.
The book further demonstrates that the "Hitler myth" was not simply created during Hitler's economic, political, and military successes in 1935-1940 but was in fact inculcated in the German people from the very beginning of Hitler's rise to power.
The book also demonstrates that the Nazi Party glorified violence as Der Angriff time and again recounted heroic struggles of violent clashes by the party's private army of enforcers, the "Sturmabteilung" (Storm Battalion) or SA against enemies of the party, most especially communists.
Other themes discussed in the book are the Nazi Party's attempts to appeal to the working man (in contradistinction to current thought that the Nazis primary appeal after a poor showing in the 1928 elections was to farmers/peasants) and attacks on the governing financial, political, and economic "System" that exploited the working man.
The book is a very thoughtful examination of the early history of the Nazi party in Berlin through an analysis of its major party organ run by Berlin party leader ("Gauleiter" - District Leader), and later Nazi government Minister of Propaganda, Joseph Goebbels.
