Good Guidebook.......2007-06-21

I always appreciate having a guidebook for the specific area that I am in and this guidebook is better than most. However, I have a few complains that are typical of guidebooks like this. 1. The photos could be improved. 2. There needs to be a bit more information as to when these plants sprout and bloom so one can tell when to look for each species. A chart might be nice. 3. There needs to be some sort of key to give people a starting place for identifying species. The complaint I have heard the most from people using this book in the field is that they get frustrated just flipping through pages trying to find the plants by photo. On the positive side, there are some excellent keys for species identification within families. A list of species by habitat type would also greatly improve the book (i.e. roadsides, creek beds, moist areas, dry hillsides, high elevation, beaches etc.)

I have just finished browsing through this wonderful guide to plants of an Aleutian island. This is the first book with color photographs to address this part of Alaska. Having visited the island, some years ago, I am fully aware of the fabulous flora that exists there. The flowers are very easy to see as the only trees are a few that were planted in a sheltered spot in town by some early explorers.

The book includes about 160 plants and lists scientific, common, and Aleut names. The text gives detailed information on identification and uses of plants by the local people. The drawings accompanying the text are very good, some even art quality. These are, probably, one of the greatest attributes of the book. Unfortunately, not as much attention was given to good, clear and precise photography. I have discovered that about 75% of the public needs a good photographic color image to aid them in plant identification. His type of photography takes an enormous amount of time and effort in order to proper display flower characteristics as well as leaf shape and substance. These items can often be extremely important to proper identification.

The book is well organized and precise but will, probably, not be used very much as a guide in the field. It is too cumbersome to easily extract specific information from the book. It will, nevertheless, make a great addition to any wildflower enthusiast's reference library.

Where has this guy been hiding.......2003-04-10

Having spent a busy weekend sightseeing, shopping and eating in Lille thanks to this amusing and shrewd guidebook, I have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone else travelling in France and Belgium. The book had all the information we needed for using public transport, getting to know the locals and seeing the sights without ever making us feel like hicks or gawping visitors. We will be in Paris this Easter and have already chosen our hotels and at least two restaurants from the same book. Does this guy write about anywhere else? If he knows other cities like he knows this one, I want to read about it.

Food for thought and thoughts on food.......2002-07-10

Laughter and good food make an excellent combination. This book is full of annecdotes and gossipy tips and snippets, yet it also is as mouthwatering as a recipe book. The author reviews restaurants without resorting to fashionable cosmopolitan cliches. Your mouth waters as he remembers succulent sauces and naughty desserts, you smile as he gossips about the waiters and restaurant owners, you want to linger on the salivating detail of every favourote dish and each evocative evening spent in cellars and dining rooms. Yet, when he talks of history, you are as enchanted by the true human nature of kings and artists that he conveys. I love his casual and very individual approach to sightseeing. He can give equal status to a shop selling haute couture for dogs as an art gallery or monument, and he seems to know where all the good stuff is hidden away from the coach trade. I have queued for hours at the Louvre and Musee d'Orsay in Paris, yet this guy knows of a private house with dozens of Monets on view. And best of all he knows where to find the best meals in town without breaking the bank. This book is hot on the practical side of travelling as well. Following his tips, I found out how to travel first class on Eurostar for less than the price of a second class ticket. My only complaint is that this is not part of a series. I travel all over France and Europe and would love to listen to this author's advice on the rest of the country and the continent.

Eat well before you read it.......2002-03-22

Don't read this book when you are hungry. the food descriptions will make you drool. I used this guide when friends from London came over for the weekend. Mouth-watering restaurant reviews and spot-on opinions and advice about Paris. Useful, good value and sometimes very funny. The book also has full sets of city maps and subway guides, and give very clear directions with every listing. I reckon it would be a great read on the train or the plane as well.

Hilarious, a great read!.......2002-03-01

I laughed out loud
It is a long time since I have enjoyed a travel book so much that I laughed out loud. However, I have found myself smiling and chuckling on the metro each day since I picked up this hugely enjoyable read. The author provides us with plenty of invaluable tips on where to go and how to get there, with hundreds of restaurant and site reviews. But the great thing about this book is that everything has been tried and tested by one man, and he is a man with a top sense of humour and a fund of hilarious annecdotes about his fellow diners and visitors. I have worked in Paris for many years and I recognise so many of my favourite places in his stories and listings. Yet this fellow Englishman seems to know of many absolute treasures that have been hidden under my nose for years. I cannot wait to try more of them. I might even treat myself to a visit to Brussels, on the strength of his suggestions. An enjoyable read and a genuine key to any city.

This book is my new best friend.......2001-12-30

Just returned from road testing this book in Paris and found it to be absoutely spot on. We found ourself visiting bars and cafes and even museums that we must have passed a dozen times before, and discoverting a genuinely local welcome in the big city. The hotel listings are fabulous, the food reports astute and the insiders' perspective is invaluable. I lent my copy to a fellow passenegr on the TGV train home, who told me that the Lille pages were just as accurate. All I have to do now, is plan my next trip at my leisure. Buy this book. You will save the over price on your first day's eating, shopping or partying.
I must have a dozen guide books to France, but this is, without doubt, the most candid and passionate. I never felt as thougb I was being prushed or processed through the tourist traps.

BEST Cat Book Ever!!.......2007-09-08

This book is the best book for quickly informing on cat traits and cat care. Many useful observations such as "Love is knowing that when I flop on one side at your feet I'm saying "Play with me"". Lots of tidbits like this to educate new cat owners and even old cat owners! Such as "Love is knowing that when I stick my rump in your face, I'm just being sub misssive not trying to seduce you."

The format is cute images and single statements on each page so it is quick to read. Young readers can learn from it. It also informs the reader of clues to watch for to recognize a cat is sick and what objects are dangerous to cats.

This book should be given to every new cat owner.

From what I know, there are only three books that have been writin about Peter Cushing: the two volumes of his auto-biography and this amazing book. This is a very informative and entertaining book on an amazing actor. It gives detailed information about every movie Peter Cushing ever acted in. This book is a must have for every die-hard Peter Cushing fan.

A good reference book that shows much love of the subject........1999-09-16

This is a fan love letter to Peter Cushing. As such it is, perhaps, beyond criticising. It contains an obsesive amount of material on Mr. Cushing and others involved in the old Hammer films. Despite it's fan perspective, it manages to give fair critical readings of his movies. Be warned, the book is pricey for what you get. If you are a rabid Cushing fan, however, or a genre fan with deep pockets, this book is recommended.

I bought the two volume set and after reading through and doing some research took advantage of the free one hour consultation. That and the books were really all I needed!
Over the past few months activity has been brisk in Texas. .. Like the author mentioned to me several months ago, if you find solid properties investors will come. She was right. I had very little money to start. I now have three solid liquid investors that are willing to source money for me. There is still a lot for me to learn but, I just want to thank the author for writing these books and for being there for me in the very beginning of my tax deed career. I have began to build a good list of reference contacts in the real estate industry and am beginning to succeed beyond my wildest dreams. Not only did I get the info I needed in these books but a grounding in Real Estate terms and many sample forms some of which i have put to good use. The books are worth evey penny if you put them to use and I did, big time!

Not worth the price of the book.......2004-12-14

This book contains only general information available elsewhere on the internet for free. The few basic facts are rehashed and restated in order to fill out the book, together with useless make a list recommendations.

If you need info on Tax Deeds don't bother.......2004-07-08

This book talks mostly about Tax Liens, not Tax Deeds. Also because each state is different it is very general. If you know nothing and I mean nothing about Tax Liens, it might be worth buying, but you can research it yourself by calling the assessor/tax collector in your area and then searching county records. You'll find you will have to do most of the leg-work yourself anyway, the book even tells you this!

Gives you the real info...not the hype.......2004-04-07

I have purchased many books on Real estate investing and found that this book along with volume two gave me everything I needed to get started investing in tax liens and deeds. Volume one gives you a complete overview and volume two is written in a simple step by step "how-to" format that is easy to follow and makes sense. I have already purchased a number of liens in AZ and think this author has given me invaluable information...worth many times the cost of the books!

Best Value in a complete self study program.......2003-11-30

This book along with volume 2 gave me far more information than I have been able to get anyplace else, including from all those infomercial and seminar packages. I've used the books to learn how to purchase tax deed property right here in AZ and look forward to going to Nevada. The two volume set even came with a one hour free phone consultation! that's how I learned the even though AZ is a lien state I could buy deed property. Ms. Villanova's books are worth every penny and then some!
