I take this every time I go to Mexico, as it always seems to have something more to offer. My copy is beat up & worn out but I love it.

OK, but then again..........2002-10-16

It's a very enjoyable read, no doubt about that. What you WON'T find is a bunch of addresses of hotels and restaurants, no maps, and no bus schedules. What you WILL find is a very long series of amusing tips and hints about travel in Mexico. However, the book is a little dated, and it's been many a year since Carl Franz travelled through Mexico in the style here related--his current guided trips through Sonora will cost you in the thousands, which is certainly not what this book was all about!

Excellent guide to Mexico. We found this to be the best and most readable of many guides on topics that included just getting along; driving, eating, etc. Very readable, humorous. Too bad these guys don' t have similar books for other countries in the manner of the 'Moon' handbooks, Eyewitness guides, etc.

Much of the information is old, based as it is on the authors trips to Mexico for the past several decades. Doesn't make the book any less valuable or interesting. If you're going to Mexico on anything other than the sanitized tourist package, you should get and read this book.

Carl Franz's fantastic book is not your typical guide book, nor is it intended to be. If what you're looking for is facts and information, maps and a list of cheap hotels and restaurants this isn't the book for you. If you want to cross the border in your mind and see what Mexico and its people are really like, then go no further. This is a book you can enjoy whether or not you're planning to go anywhere near Mexico. And after you've read it you'll not only feel that you've been there, you'll be packing to go.

I'm planning a trip to Central America and a friend lent me a 1986 version of the book. I found it to be funny and informative...The stories bring the information to life in a way that dry, factual guidebooks can't even begin to approximate. The knowledge Franz imparts throughout the book is very useful for travelling in ANY and EVERY country. I enjoyed Franz's lively writing style and his "Adventures" reminded me of similar experiences I'd had backpacking in the Middle East, Europe and Asia. On several occasions it had me laughing out loud and reciting passages to my girlfriend (and travel-companion) as we remembered going thru exactly the same ordeals in other countries...the book should be used with a guide (like Lonely Planet or Rough Guide) that can give you location-specific advice for more organised travel itinaries. All-in-all I was so impressed with the book that I bought the latest edition. The low-budget travel tips alone make it indispensible. It is a must for first-time peregrines or people who are new to "keepin'-it-real" travel...

"Bassin' With The Pros" - A little too much basic stuff........2004-01-23

Bassin' With The Pros would be an excellent book if you're new to bass fishing or at least new to reading about it. I've read numerous books on the subject and found myself skipping over entire chapters in this book just because there was nothing new to learn.

Also, there aren't many actual technique tips from the pros. You'd be much better off with "Bassin' With The Best" for technique help.

To quote "The New York Times": "...the invaluable "National Trust Manual of Housekeeping" from England, a book crammed with advice ranging from how to remove a book from a shelf (by clasping the spine) to how to clean ormolu (dust lightly with a pony-hair brush and only once or twice a year). For those who want to do it right to a fair-thee-well, it doesn't get any better.

Excellent, direct, and full of case studies. Very helpful advice as it relates to each scenario and example of relationships and their foundations from which they are built. Just when you were asking yourself, "What does she mean by this?" the author would write, "and for those of you who are wondering what I mean by this...." and she would give a complete explanation to help the reader apply it to themselves. Her no-nonsense approach accomplished precisely the reader's goal of answering that "stay or go" question. She keeps the reader from waffling around getting at the real meat of the question by sticking to her pointed questions that we are assigned to ponder and answer truthfully. Truly helpful for that next step, after your friends' advice and counsel start to fall on deaf ears and fail to move you into action, one way or the other.

I looked at the book for a whole day before I took a big breath and started reading it. This book will probably save my relationship that I was about to quit. It even gave me more ways to appreciate my significant other. To be read as soon as difficulties occur. It will either save your relationship before the worst of it grows on you or will prevent you from staying in an unhappy relationship.
If your are willing to find your truth, open this book, easy to read, and so practical.

I already knew where I was at when I bought this book. I was as the book says in "limbo" and it was time to make a decision. I could either stay and try to put my all into it all or leave and start new. Well I decided to leave, because that is the direction I had been headed for awhile, and I just couldn't stay. It was a good choice, a scary one. The book was super to the point and the stories of others definately made me feel not alone.
Personally I choose to be happy and live life to the fullest and not let anything hold me back. I wasn't happy so I did what I needed to.

After years of spending a small fortune on marriage guidance, consultants, psychologists, and every other useless adviser on the planet - along came this wonderful book. The book takes the reader through a clear, concise, PRACTICAL, step-by-step approach to making that life changing decision of whether to recommit to or leave a relationship. I found the book to be a breath of fresh air in the choking confusion that accompanies such a decision.

This book simlifies marital problems too much - and it seems the author is more in favor of marraiges ending then staying together. I think this book should come with a warning label - buyer beware!
