Nooooooo! This book must be available to the public! it is a medeocore translation, but who cares (:-))

This book from Shaykh AlAkbar was written because someone said to him that there was no no more tasawwuf left, let alone there were no Auliya left.

What did he do? He wrote Ruh Al-Quds wa Al-Durrat AlFakhira! Included in this book are pages of the Auliya whom he met, studied with and learned from, including women!

Ibn AlArabi is the qutb of men, and we may not be able to understand him, or be like him, but this translation is easy to understand, and digest!

          Book Description

Homer E. Capehart's life is a remarkable success story. Lacking any formal education beyond high school, Capehart was a self-made millionaire by the 1930s. Turning to politics, he made a career out of opposition to big government and support for an anti-interventionist foreign policy.

5 out of 5 stars Best Way To Learn About Al Capone.......2005-09-25

From the first to last page, this book will keep you readin. Telling the full story of Al Capone, from his birth to his entry into gangs to his rise then fall, and his death. This book also has accutual gangster slang with translations. Also, it uses kid friendly comics, words, and police reports. It also dispells many rumors you may have heard about Al Capone. All in all, a great book. A must buy!

          5 out of 5 stars ............2003-12-08

Very good book. I bought it for school because I had to do a report on a biography, and I'm very happy I chose it. It has all the facts you need to give a great presentation on a biography, and it includes lots of fun extras that will make you want to read more!

5 out of 5 stars Al Capone and his gang.......2003-03-18

Al Capone and His Gang by Alan MacDonald is a great book about Al Capone. It describes his life in a comic book way. It also tells about his bootleg career. The quote I like best is, "I love my job, thats what I'm good at," because I don't see how anyone could think killing is fun. This book also reveals Al's secret diary, and it's the number one source for gangster slang. I like this book because the life of Al Capone is really interesting and full of surprises. I recommend this book to teenagers who love biographies that are suspenseful and full of surprises.

          4 out of 5 stars the review.......2003-01-08

Al Capone was a real life mob boss from the 1920's and this is his story

from beginning to end. The author describes the man, Chicago, and organized

crime in the 1920's perfectly. It's almost like your with Al Capone on his daily

routs, on the streets and in jail. Money, booze, and women are what gangsters

desire and this is what the book is about.

The book was very written, and is very easy to read. The book seams like it

is at a sixth grade reading level with cartoons and hand written notes said to be

written by Al himself. It was in perfect order so you the reader could under

stand where the story was heading.

This book is a good read for anyone who likes old gangsters, prohibition, and

Organized crime. I liked this book because it wasn't strenuous to read and had

great info. about Al Capone and his gang. I give this book a four star rating.

It's not a five star rating due to the lack of information on his wife and kid.

5 out of 5 stars Al Capone and his Gang.......2002-10-03

I liked this book because I learned a lot about gangs and their code words like "bump off" which means to kill someone and I really liked the comics on most of the pages. It was a gang book with comedy instead of gore. I would highly recommend this book if you are interested in Al Capone.

This book came in a good condition within a decent amount of time. It was way cheaper than other stores/sites. Cheap and easy is what I like, so this book was a great buy for me. Kudos to the seller: I'd shop again with them anytime!

This is a great book and a wonderful journey into the world of mixed media. I loved the section on how to alter real photos!

            4 out of 5 stars Beautiful images.......2007-05-27

This book has many wonderful pictures and lists the items need to use for the effects but the instructions are not specific enough for a beginner to dive right in if they are not familiar with certain products. I find myself looking through for techniques that I have not used and really wish that several of the projects were a bit more specific. Overall I really love the book but could see that it could be overwelming for someone who is shy from trying new things.

            5 out of 5 stars wonderful.......2007-03-25

in my job as graphic designer I often get stuck in a certain way or ideas of a design and this book just popped me into a totally new way of thinking and giving me a ton of fresh ideas

4 out of 5 stars Great Image Transfer Reference.......2007-02-03

I checked this book out from the library twice, and liked it so much I decided to buy it. My favorite feature: the book explains many methods to use for image transfers from copier, inkjet, and other image sources. It also has tons of full-color examples. I don't particularly care for the author's style of art, but the varied ideas, as well as the gallery of other artists' work, make up for it.

            5 out of 5 stars Excellent.......2001-07-10

If you can get a copy of this book, do so. You'll be doing yourself a favor. This is an excellent book for pest identification in gardens. One caveat-DO NOT FOLLOW THE CONTROL RECOMMENDATIONS. This book was last published in 1976, and the controls are seriously outdated. However, it is still the best book for pest ID's in the garden or around the house available.

5 out of 5 stars Solid life cycle information, good crop info, buy it!.......1997-08-07

One of the basic books on serious gardener`s bookcases despite the outdated pesticide recommendations *which should not be followed*. Valuable because of the wide range of insect species described for many, many crops (everything from corn to rubber plants, sage to daisies, roses to lawn grasses) and the life cycle information included make this the best book I've found for figuring out rational methods for pest control. Few drawings, but good descriptions of the species`mean that this book should probably be used in conjunction with a good field guide, like Borror's _Insects_ volume (#19 in Peterson Field Guide Series). A publisher who would update and reissue this volume would be doing gardeners a big favor. Kay Lancaster

Being a new gardener, I was shocked to see all the bugs that started showing up in my backyard. Ones I had never seen before. How was I to know which were "naughty" bugs and which were "nice" bugs. I finally decided to buy Barbara's book. It has been so extremely helpful with identifying bugs in my garden as well as solutions to ridding my backyard of the pesky ones.

We all enjoy the book. I liked to know what to do about the insects in our garden. Turns out most of the insects are just fine and no threat to any plants. Our kids like the book to just snoop around and be able to learn more while having fun.

The book is a refreshing approach that combines gardening and natural history. I like the balance. A useful guide but also a good read on its own. The best part is having a book written about the prairies by authors who garden on the prairies. Too many books miss the mark for our region but this one is on target for the insect questions I've had. I hope more garden writers in our region pick up the torch as this book does.

                        5 out of 5 stars Good Balance.......2003-04-21

It's great to find a book that is actually of practical use. I like the mix of gardening info and Nature info. I've already identified a few critters in the garden and figured out which ones (there was only one) to keep an eye on for problems. The illustrations are top-notch. I like books that aren't dumbed-down but the average gardener can still use. I hope there are more books written by people who garden in our climate and don't just rehash info that is more relevant to warmer zones.

5 out of 5 stars The Prairie Gardeners Book of Bugs - An Excellent Book!!.......2003-04-17

Everyone who gardens, especially those who live in the prairies of Canada or the Northern USA, should read this book!

It not only has great information about entomology and the individual bugs but also details about how to live with them. The illustrations are wonderful too!

As a teacher, I suggest that it would make an excellent resource for school libraries as well because it's not only dry facts but is written in a manner that is easy and fun to read.

For expectant parents, it's part of the tradition to pore endlessly over baby-name books searching for the perfect moniker. Names carry stereotypes, vary in perceived attractiveness (a blond bombshell named Gertrude?), and help influence how we see ourselves. As Sigmund Freud once said, "A human being's name is a principal component in her person, perhaps a piece of his soul." In Beyond Jennifer and Jason, Madison and Montana, name experts Linda Rosenkrantz and Pamela Redmond Satran present a baby-name book that goes far beyond the usual name lists and definitions. Satran and Rosenkrantz provide a thorough history of American naming traditions, discuss the psychological and sociological impact of names, and, yes, include list after list after list of possibilities organized into categories: popular names, old-fashioned names, comfy names, yuppie names, African-American names, androgynous names, Shakespearean names, unpopular names, creative names, mythological names, effective and ineffective middle names, classical names... and so on. Annotated with humorous notes, descriptions, quotes, and name-derivation definitions, the book is a fun and fascinating read even for those not debating between Gravity and Jane or Mason and Hendrick. --Ericka Lutz

I am an avid Amazon shopper, and I was disappointed with this book. It's just pages of a bunch of lists of names. A lot of names are repeated in different categories. I would recommend the book, Baby Name Wizard.

3 out of 5 stars Okay, and has some good ideas.......2007-07-08

I liked some of the ideas that the authors presented, but overall I found the way that they broke up the book to be confusing. The names were not listed alphabetically, and in several cases I would read one section, and have some of the same names from earlier listed in another section. I will definitely be searching for another book to help me find a better variety of names with more organization.

This is the brand new edition of Beyond Jennifer & Jason, just published a few months ago. All the popularity lists in the books are updated and the information is guaranteed new -- and even ahead of its time! Unfortunately, it can be confusing knowing which edition is the latest one. But also know that even though styles in baby names do change, it happens gradually -- and you're choosing a name to last a lifetime, not just for a few years. Also look for our other new books Cool Names for Babies and coming in March 2007, The Baby Name Bible.

                          2 out of 5 stars Very outdated..........2007-01-09

I am expecting a baby in June of 2007 and ordered this book to assist with picking a baby name. Unfortunately, something I didn't notice when ordering is that the book was published in 1999. The book includes all sorts of lists of names - such as most popular baby names - however, the lists are all from 1998 or before. Trends in names seem to change, and since this book had not been updated in nine years it was of very little use. I have found the internet to be a much better resource.

5 out of 5 stars Do you really need to know Ronald means "counsel rule?".......2006-12-06

Books that list names in alphabetical order with their (yawn) meanings absolutely put me to sleep. I love this book because it delves into subtle, intangible issues like image. I think all the advice the authors give on choosing your baby's name is right on target. Really, how many people name their baby based on the obscure and usually unknown meaning of a name? Will you go around telling people "Trixie means 'bringer of joy!'" Ha! We gave our son the name Henry for a lot of reasons, but not because it means "ruler of the home." Buy this book--it's worth it.

                            Book Description

An outrageous tale of fast cash, dirty politics, and extravagant greed in the Bayou State.

Louisiana is our most exotic state. It is religious and roguish, a place populated by Cajuns, Creoles, rednecks, and Bible-thumpers. It is a state that loves good food, good music, and good times. Laissez les bon temps rouler -- let the good times roll -- is the unofficial motto. Louisiana is also excessively corrupt. In the 1990s, it plunged headlong into legalized gambling, authorizing more games of chance than any other state. Leading the charge was Governor Edwin Edwards, who for years had flaunted his fondness for cold cash and high-stakes gambling, and who had used his razor-sharp mind and catlike reflexes to stay one step ahead of the law. Gambling, Edwin Edwards, and Louisiana's political culture would prove to be a combustible mix.

Bad Bet on the Bayou tells the story of what happened when the most corrupt industry came to our most corrupt state. It is a sweeping morality tale about commerce, politics, and what happens when the law catches up to the most basic human desires and frailties.

If you were asked to make up a Grisham type tale about politics and corruption I do not think it would rival the true story this book takes you through.

                            5 out of 5 stars A great book.......2002-11-24

"Vote for the crook. It's important." This was a bumper sticker seen around Louisiana at the time of the Edwards-Duke Election. It implores the electorate to vote for the three-time governor whose definition of an honest politician was one who stayed bought in order to beat the former Ku Klux Klan wizard.
Like this bumper sticker, the book is funny--the thievery was so inept and outrageous, yet sad because this stuff was really going on.
The author knows his stuff, and the subject area, Edwin Edwards and the rise of gambling in Louisiana is a great story. This book reads like a thriller.

                            3 out of 5 stars Lacks focus.......2002-08-07

The author could not decide what his subject was: a) the corrupting effects of contemporary gambling in Louisiana; b) how gambling licenses were won there; or c) Edwards' corrupt activities. Although I enjoyed many of its anecdotes, the book is structurally flawed and does not hang together. It also suffers from annoyingly redundant quotes.

Bridges undoubtedly could have written excellent 50-100 pp. pieces on each of the three subjects above, or he could have shortened them into very readable magazine pieces. But he has failed to turn these related topics into a cohesive whole.

                            5 out of 5 stars Where was "60 Minutes".......2002-03-18

This book is excellent because it is supported by hard evidence of Louisian-style corruption.. For example, the author reports that former U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Louisiana, Eddie Jordan, had a videotape of Gov. Edwards delivering a $20,000 bribe to former U.S. Representative Cleo Fields (D LA). Over the objection of his staff, Jordan declined to prosecute Fields or Edwards because , in his opinion, the evidence was insufficient. The Clinton Justice Department did not overrule Jordan's decision. How much more evidence did Jordan need? The real reason that Jordan decl;ined prosecution is that Fields and U.S. Representative William Jefferson (D LA) were both members of the Congressional Black Caucus, and Jefferson and Jordan worked together in the same law office. Jordan could not prosecute his enemy, Edwards. without prosecuting his friend, Fields. The bitter irony of Edwards' criminal activity is that the U.S. Court of Appeals will probably reverse his conviction on legitimate grounds. Both the prosecutors and the trial judge overreached by dismissing during jury deliberations the only juror who was voting for acquittal and by ministrepreting the RICO statute. In any event, the question remains: why did "60 Minutes", "20/20", and "Prime Time" fail to cover the Fields bribery case? Dan , Tom and Sam, "What's the answer?"

I got this book for my husband, as he's the non-fiction reader in our family. I was out of something to read, so I picked it up and could NOT put it down.

Bridges does a great job of putting a lot of convoluted information into readable form. Edwin Edwards and his Crazy Cajun Cronies didn't really do anything new...they just continued a long tradition of crooked Louisiana Politics!

I enjoyed almost all of this book...the only parts that made my eyes glaze over were the details regarding the financing. My mind just can't wrap around deals where the broker stands to make 27 MILLION dollars....and then one million a year after that!

If you ever wanted a peek into the world of slick politicians, oily gangsters and brash billionaires, this is your book. BAD BET ON THE BAYOU should be required reading for anyone who votes!

This book is concerned with how the Northerners, many of whom were political outcasts and financial failures, came to influence the development of England. It analyzes the structure of their group and the motives behind their rebellion.
