On a recent trip to Washington, DC, I brought along a copy of "Michelin The Green Guide Washington, DC." It was the first time I had used a guidebook in this wonderful city, which I have visited often over the years, spending much time in its extraordinary museums and the Smithsonian Institute. This updated, post 9/11, Micheline book really made a difference - opening up a new world, and saving me lots of time and money also.

The White House, the Capitol, the monuments and the federal memorials - from the glorious Lincoln Memorial, (which I always visit when in town), to the always moving Vietnam War and the impressive Korean War Memorials, the brilliant Phillips Collection and other museums, the Washington National Cathedral, etc., all come to life with historical insight, color photographs and Washington, DC maps, detailed and marked with fascinating walking tours. The Michelin Green Guide to Washington, DC is extremely practical and covers all aspects of a trip to this historic city, including the most interesting neighborhoods to wander through, and a variety of some of the best restaurants the town has to offer. Excursions from DC highlight the best of Alexandria and the Mount Vernon area in nearby Virginia.

From a Native's Perspective.......2002-06-09

Anything with the name Michelin tells me that it is well thought out and offers practical advice and information. This book is no exception to that rule. The Washington DC Green Guide is up-to-date for life in post-9-11 Washington. Helpful contact information, hours of operation and maps are included among neighborhood histories and in-depth museum information that will make you think you've already visited the places! My favorite feature of the book is the address and contact information. The embassies, museums, theatres, major shopping locales and other businesses are listed in an organized manner making it most helpful to make reservations or equipe you to handle any other inquiry you might have. Though its descriptions are ample and helpful as a native, I must admit, I noticed the absence of some insider tidbits with which I have become familiar in my decades living in the Capital City. There are a few historical establishments & restaurants (Old Ebbitts, for instance) which are not included. Overall though, I must give this book a high ranking because it is hard to wrap up our grand city in one book without having to be choosy about what is to be included and what should be left out. Though I live in DC and have all my life, I enjoy this book because it allows me to become aware of some features of our grand town which I may have previously overlooked. It is a great resource for visiting tourists as well and great for Washingtonians to keep on hand when they forsee out-of-town guests. The only thing that would make this book more useful were if it came with a Metro card!

I bought this book not knowing the best way to reorganise my sewing room. It has gives so many wonderful ideas and helps you make them into reality. Easy to follow, great pictures and such a joy to read, which I do still do for further inspiration.

Creating my "not quite perfect" quilting space.......2007-10-03

I'm in the process of converting a boys' bedroom to a quilting room, so I was looking for specific ideas from the experts. Even though my quilting space will not be a 'perfect quilting space' as a result of reading this book, it will be so much better! I appreciated the author's guidelines for making the cutting and the pressing surfaces each the correct height - for the individual quilter, not just the average height quilter (I'm 5' tall, so "average height" does not work well for me) - and her attention to ergonomic considerations in all areas. Her ideas on use of space near the sewing machine, with small cutting and pressing areas right there, make so much sense, but would not have occurred to me. The book was well written; I just read it straight through, then went back to the sections as I was making more detailed plans. I would recommend it to anyone planning a quilting space, or redoing one that they have. It was very useful to me.

Perfect book for quilters.......2007-09-08

I have been contemplating setting up my sewing room to make it truely a "quilting studio" as the author says we should call it. In the first chapter alone I learned about ergonomics for quilters and changed some things that helped me immediately. I had things set up the wrong height and orientation and these changes relieved my back and legs immediately. Throughout the book there are excellent suggestions, and six actual makeover examples. I highly recommend this book for quilters who want to make even the smallest change to their quilt studios.

If I were starting to build a room specifically for crafting, these are wonderful ideas, but a little extreme as far as setting it up. But I did give the book to a friend building anew home that may be able to afford all the items in the pictures shown.

This book is more conceptual than 'practical application', but I really liked it. I found out *why* I organize (to put it loosely) things the way I do and found some ways to make it work for me. Most books by professional organizers work great for people whose idea of disorganization is the occasional jacket not hung up. However, I wouldn't use this book by itself. I would recommend using this book for insight into what your style (or combination of styles) is and then apply that to a more "practical application" book like "Organizing Plain and Simple." That way, you can easily identify which hints and tips will work for you without wasting a lot of time and money through trial and error.

I have read a few organization books. this book helps you find your 'organization style'. I thought it was great. Really easy to get through, tells you how to make lists. The book is not an instruction manual, it is really only suggestions on what to do. If you give them a chance and actually do them, things will be easier.

I purchased both The Journey is the Destination and The Art of Life on the same day. Over the next two days, I rotated the books as I couldn't decide on which one to read first. Jennifer obviously dove deeply into Dan's life. The stories that are told from memories collected from Dan's closest friends and his family are engaging. There is no doubt that Dan left a mark on everyone he met. Even more incredible is that he continues to leave his mark on the lives of those who meet him through these books. His death may have been premature but he certainly didn't waste the short amount of time that he was given. He certainly deserves to be known as one of the twentieth centuries heroes.

It's a shame Kathy(his mother) never wrote this book.
By far the most imtimate and well written part of this book was the last chapter that Kathy Eldon wrote.
Obviously Jennifer New loves Dan's life like we all do but unfortuneatly she never met him and that glaringly stands out in the biography. There is way too much creative license here,the fact he is raised to almost sainthood can be squeemish at times.Jennifer's writing leaves a lot to be desired, but through the clumsy writing you can't helped but be inspired by the life of Dan Eldon.
Dan is amazing!! His photos say more about him than any bunch of words can. 'The Journey is the destination" is a must have book!!
Flip through that and I guarentee your life will be changed forever!
