Indispensible Guide for the Traveler.......2006-12-28
I popped over to Vietnam back in 2005 and lugged this book along with me, along with a couple of other guides. I actually had thought that this one would be worthless and weak, but it turned out to be by far the best resource of all. It's packed with information on places to go and things to do, and has scads of detail about addresses, hours of operation, admission fees, names of owners and operators, transportation options, recommended restaurants and dishes, what to concentrate upon at various museums and tourist sites, hotel rates, and so on.
I visited Hanoi, Hue, Danang, Hoi An, and Saigon, and found that this guide was valuable at every stop. It was of particular use in Hanoi, where I spent the most money on art, since it has very comprehensive entries on practically every gallery in town, what the price ranges and levels of quality are, what kinds of art are to be found there, et cetera. The authors also have suggestions on how and when to bargain and what shipping methods to use.
If you have the slightest intention of buying more than two items on a trip to Vietnam, or you want to ditch your tour group and go rogue, this book is highly recommended.
Adventure-of-a-lifetime guidelines for smart traveling.......2002-05-07

Filled with sensible advice, maps, addresses, tips, great places to go and an easy index, The Treasures and Pleasures of Vietnam and Cambodia covers everything short of being a primer in the native language. Highly recommended for anyone planning a trip to these exotic and beautiful lands, The Treasures And Pleasures Of Vietnam And Cambodia is a "must" for getting the most out of a business or vacation trip to these exotic lands.

Book Description
A suspenseful, emotionally charged real-life Sopranos: The son of New York's most notorious Mafia killer reveals the conflicted life he led being raised by a cold-blooded murderer, who was also a devoted family man, and the wrenching legacy of Mafia family life.
Al DeMeo will never forget the day in 1992 when a coworker, a fellow trader at the New York Stock Exchange, taunted him with a copy of the hot new book Murder Machine, chronicling the horrific criminal life of DeMeo's father, Roy, the head of the most deadly gang in organized crime. The moment sent DeMeo into a psychological tailspin: How could he have spent his life looking up to, and loving, a vicious killer?
For the Sins of My Father recounts the chilling rise and fall of the man who led the Gambino family's most fearsome killers and thieves, through the eyes of a son who had never known any other kind of life. Coming of age in an opulent Long Island house where money is abundant but its source is unclear, Al becomes Roy's confidant, sent to call in loans at age fourteen and gradually coming to understand his father's job description--loan shark, car thief, porn purveyor and, above all, murderer. But when Al is seventeen, Roy's body is found in the trunk of a car, a gangland slaying that places Al between federal prosecutors seeking his testimony and a mob crew determined to keep him quiet.
Desperate to abide by the father-son bond, but equally determined to escape his father's dangerous and doomed life, Al Demeo embarks on a courageous quest for the truth, reconciliation, and honor. With the implacable narrative drive of a thriller and the power of a painfully honest memoir, For the Sins of My Father presents a startling and unprecedented perspective on the underworld of organized crime, exposing for the first time the cruel legacy of a Mafia life.
From the Hardcover edition.

Roy Demeo the Gangster AND Family Man (as told by his son Albert).......2007-08-20
Wow! If you've ever read books that involve Roy Demeo (The Ice Man, Murder Machine to name a few), you will know that his reputation is that of a ruthless, antagonistic, killer who was widely feared by many for such a reputation. However, this book is interesting in the fact that the author tell about his life with his father, Roy Demeo, as told from a son's point of view. This exposes Roy Demeo's "family Man" side, and shows how much he really did love his wife and children.
Once criticism of the book is that it has a slow start. The first few chapters are slow and a little boring, but it gets better from there.
There's a flip side to every coin.......2007-08-01
After have read Murder Machine I came over The Since of my father by accident after surfing the net...I think it's a wonderful book by Albert, that gives you the insight from a sons perspective of a mob hitman.
Murder Machine was great, but how much did they acctually "spice up" the stories??? I thought "the sins of my father" was a fantastic book, very interesting and hearthwarming. If you like me enjoy mob-books, have a big heart and haven't read this one: buy it. Don't mind the people who gives it a low rating, they were expecting Lucky Luke or something.
Great book Albert De Meo. May your father R.I.P.
Albert Demeo.......2007-07-20
We see the life of a gangster through the eyes of a young boy. A young boy who adores his father and will do anything to please him. He is slowly introduced into the workings of the Mafia. The older he gets, the more tradegy his life encounters. Very well written. My only regret was that there were not enough photos in this book.
Poor.......2007-05-19
Getting a book published merely because your daddy was a gangster is a bit of crime. Me buying it and toiling through the amateurish prose even more of a crime.
don't bother.......2007-05-07
The kid doesn't know anything about his father other then what the police knew. you can find a lot better book about Demeo

Wonderful Book.......2007-08-13
I bought this book a couple weeks ago and I love it. It has so much information that every woman should know about. I would recommend this book to any woman who's pregnant or planning to become pregnant. Great information on choosing an OB or midwife. A definate must read.
Everything I wanted to know.......2007-08-09
Great book! It was the first place I went back to when contractions started. The ending covers an array of birth stories that give you a truthful and in depth look at the many possibilities and situations you may find yourself in.
The only downside is that the material is a bit dated - but only things like bringing a fist full of quarters to call family from a pay phone.
Good preparation for labor.......2007-06-22
This book does a good job explaining specific techniques to help you through labor. The authors also seem to have a relatively realistic and open-minded stance on natural childbirth - they feel it is far better to not have an epidural so that you can keep moving and change positions that will help labor and delivery. But they also acknowledge that there are times when an epidural is appropriate and if that's what you do and it works for you, then that is a successful birth experience too. Some books I've read from the natural childbirth slant don't even include epidurals in their list of "pain management" techniques, and will only mention all the negative things about them. This is more well-rounded.
INDESPENSIBLE!!!!!.......2007-06-02
If you are even *considering* a natual childbirth, this book is a MUST. It lays out the FACTS (yes, facts) about how dangerous episiotomies are-- and tells how childbirth-- natural childbirth-- can be MUCH less painful than it is made out to be. Of course, it does not say childbirth is PAIN FREE, but just that we are SOOOO radically unprepared for childbirth that our fear makes it hurt much more than it should-- and of course more than it has to. The techniques they advocate are solid.... it will make a difference in YOUR birth!
Only book you need!.......2007-04-02
I am a huge fan of the Sears Books. This book gave me everything I could possible want to know about birth. It is a fantastic resource and covers EVERYTHING there is to know. Really encourages Natural Childbirth and has great examples of positions and relaxation methods.

Loved this book!.......2006-06-20
I loved this book! Mary has lead such an amazing life. She's a wonderful and exceptional lady. She gives so much of her time and talent to others. I know she has many many more things to do, adventures to live and stories to share with us. Looking forward to the next book. And most of all, Thank you Mary for your inspiration. Big hug, Cris
Amazing Lady.......2005-11-29
On our recent trip to the states we were lucky enough to meet the Author (if you're reading Mary - Hi it's Kim and Roly Ziesemer from Australia - can't wait 'til you're over this way!!) - however, getting hold of a copy in Australia is easier said than done!!!
i am not a con man..........2005-08-20
my name is mary meglemre, auhtor of Me And Mr G...i would like to answer a review on my book site (weston.,ct)...first of all i work part time for a tour company...since the publichation of my book in Nov. 2001 i have used this opportunity to meet people, and find out how they liked my book (i am writing a follow up book called "He Went Fine, Charlie")..as far as my book "Me And Mr G" goes..it is based in fact (racing, la cage, etc...ect) with some mix of fiction....i have lived my life with courage and honor and i am so sorry weston,ct chose not to believe in me...but they can rest easy knowing that a portion of the proceeds from the book sold...did,indeed go to the "National Breast Cancer Foundation" (in my mother's name Alice B Meglemre).
Con Artist?.......2005-07-29
I too had the opportunity to meet the author. She claimed to be donating her time towards Breast Cancer and said she was volunteering to drive a tour bus in Orange County for one week. Don't be fooled. She's a paid employee. We trusted that she was as truthful as the stories she told. Shame on you Mary. Hard to believe that the book (which we bought after meeting her) is any more truthful.
Amazing Author, Amazing Book.......2003-03-22
I had the opportunity to spend the day with Mary while visiting Anaheim and realized that she is a very amazing person with so much to share. I immediately went out, purchased her book, and read it cover to cover. Her book was very well written and very interesting. I couldn't put it down. I read it cover to cover. I know she has so much more to tell, I hope she has plans for writing another.
