Simply the greatest guide to snowsport resorts for the west.......2007-09-10

This is an amazing book. It covers the answers for the questions that skiers and snowboarders have prior to visiting resorts they've never been to before - what are the trails really like in detail - where can we afford to eat - what tricks are there to getting around in the resorts? -Which resort leans more to our particular skills?...and so much more...

The tips are cool, the quips are fun, and it is just so much better than those stale books that spend 2 short pages and tell you no more than a resort's website.

Can't decide where to go skiing? You need this book!.......2005-11-03

Since I live in the deep south and don't know a lot of skiers, this book fit the bill for me in deciding where and when to try my mountain legs in the West. Not only does this book describe all the major resorts in detail, but it compares them in table form one with another. If you are spending money on airfare, lodging, ski rentals, tickets ect, this book has the potential to keep you from making an expensive mistake. It also has lots of technical skiing tips also. The information is very accurate. The only thing that is sparce is individual lodging reviews. I guess that is beyond the scope of a book like this. The folks that write the book are real SKIERS, not just travel writers. I highly recommend this book, and looking forward to a new edition when it comes out.

A Great Book Worthy of Its Subject.......2006-04-08

Originally published in an expensive hardcover edition as a catalogue to a European exhibition of the same name, Prestel has wisely chosen to republish this important book in a smaller, softbound and attractively priced format. This is an unexpected boon to lovers of Henri Matisse's art, as "Drawing With Scissors" is the most important publication on Matisse's famous last works - the paper cut-outs or gouaches decoupees - to appear in many years, and effectively supercedes John Elderfield's "The Cut-Outs of Henri Matisse" as the best introduction to these famous works. The authors are a noted group of European art historians, and each of the essays here explore different aspects of the making, meaning, and interpretation of these unique objects, from the cut-outs as Matisse's final attempt to unite color and drawing to the cut-outs as revolutionary works which explode the traditional opposition between "high art" and "decoration" in Western history. Although visually simple to the extreme and coloristically exuberant, these last works were the product of many years of searching and investigation into the nature of reality and the creative process, and the authors do justice to the unexpected intellectual heft behind the gorgeous appearance of the cut-outs. Personalizing the birth experience.......2007-10-04

As a woman who's feeling cornered into a cesarean due to a stubborn breech baby, I am grateful that Birthing From Within approaches birth from all angles fairly. So many other resources out there seem to not acknowledge that a cesarean birth is still the miraculous birth of our children and that there are ways to personalize and take ownership of the experience, instead of feeling as if we have no control over what's happening to our bodies and our babies. I am taking a Birthing From Within class, as I was planning and preparing for that all natural childbirth experience--that just doesn't seem meant to be for us right now. At first, I felt a bit resentful and jealous that others in the class were all going to have their perfect birth experiences and I would be left out in the cold of the modern medical world. With the support of my doula and my teacher, I am feeling much more prepared to enter into this birth knowing that it is still ours. As an interesting note, Pam England birthed her first baby via cesarean--perhaps this is why she has more empathy and has the insight to offer women the ability to do some soul searching beforehand to come to terms with the process and how to heal, move on and have the birth experience that we want. I am very grateful for this resource.

Facilitated self-exploration.......2007-09-28

Birthing from Within classes can be found all over, and can be a unique and powerful birth preparation. If you're planning to take a class, read this book first to get a sense of what the classes are supposed to entail, then interview the class instructor before signing up. Find out what you will be doing - be specific in your questions. I found that it's easy to call yourself a "Birthing from Within" instructor - it's no guarantee that the instructor will actually follow the principles and methods.

If you just plan to read the book, it's a nice guide to self-exploration. Some things might be tough to find the motivation to do without a teacher's encouragement and facilitation.

This is an excellent book for any woman going into pregnancy and birth. It will help you face your fears, accept what is to come, and make it the best possible experience you can have. The activities are especially helpful. I found this book to be vital in my preparation for a natural home VBAC. This book focuses on emotional preparation much more than physical facts, so don't be surprised that it pulls on your heartstrings and moves your emotions but doesn't give you the step by step labor instruction many other books have, since it's purpose is not to tell you how to labor, but to help you deal with the emotional rollercoaster labor can put you through.

This book is so good! I have searched and searched for a positive, helpful pregnancy/childbirth book and I finally found the one! I felt so good after reading this book, and read it in just two sittings because it is so interesting. The kindness that exudes from this book is amazing. After reading it I felt happy rather than more worried, even though it covers all the possible things you might encounter. It was like talking to a kind, very wise friend who has faith in you and your ability to cope. It was not preachy or pedantic or condescending- it inspires you rather than treats you like a "patient." It is full of very helpful things that you could only learn from experiencing birth yourself- it mentions many of the things that helped me in my first birth.

Long time Sinatra Fan.......2007-08-11

This is probably one of the most complete selections I have ever seen. Having been a Sinatra fan since the late 1940s, I have a lot of very fond memories of seeing him in person, first with the TD band, personal concerts, Old Gold Radio Show, and Your Hit Parade Radio show, plus many personal appearances in the Los Angeles area and Las Vegas. This book complements my own collection of Sinatra memorabelia. It's nice to read an authorized book about the kind of person he really was.

The ultimate Sinatra book.......2007-06-10

Frank Sinatra was, in my opinion, the greatest entertainer of all time. I collect Sinatra recordings and books, and "The Sinatra Treasures" is probably the best Sinatra compilation I've ever seen. In addition to numerous interviews, Sinatra quotes and hundreds of rare photos, it also contains a collection of various Sinatra memorabilia pocketed throughout the book. There's a photo album of pictures from Sinatra early in his career, ticket stubs, a radio script, reproductions of programs from two presidential inaugurations that Sinatra performed at, and much more. There's also an audio CD containing clips from Sinatra interviews, radio appearances, monologues and a few rare recordings, including the version of "High Hopes" used to promote John Kennedy's presidential campaign.

This wonderful collection of Sinatra material sheds light on the numerous aspects of Frank's life as a performer, father and friend. All Sinatra fans should own a copy of this book. (When it was first released, the book retailed for about $75, so the current price is a real bargain. Snatch up your copies while you can!)

Essential for every Sinatra fan.......2007-03-19

I couldn't believe when I stumbled upon this page that nobody had written a review yet! So I thought I would just add a few words of encouragement for anyone debating whether or not to order this book.

First of all, this book is more than a book. It contains a cd with some never before released songs and promos, pull-out dupicates of hand written letters, duplicates of photos from the Sinatra family albums, album covers of albums that were never produced, and so much more.

I purchased this book the week that it was released, for almost $50, and even at that price it was worth it. I see now that amazon is offering it for only $20! If I were you, I'd swoop up two! One to keep unopened, and one to open. It's that good of a book. If I had to recommend just one Sinatra book, I think this would be it. I like some others, like Nancy Sinatra's book, Tina Sinatra's book, and the DK book Sinatra, but this one is tops, especially because it contains so many rare items.

If you are a Sinatra fan, I whole heartedly recommend this book! Get one for you, and every other Sinatra lover in your family!

I bought this book as a gift for my husband, who is an avid lifelong fan of Frank. He loves it, and so do I. It makes one feel like part of the family.

A Joyful Afternoon with Frank Sinatra.......2006-09-01

Even if you are NOT a Sinatra fan you will truly enjoy "The Sinatra Treasures" written by Charles Pignone. The book is beautifully put together with page savers. When looking through the book, the cellophane envelopes holding the Sinatra mementos, make one feel as though one is going through a "family album", with fond memories of the various events throughout Mr. Sinatra's life. A marvelous "coffee table book", too, but you will pick it up and glance through the book and find yourself stopping to read the stories. This book was highly recommended to me and I pass that recommendation on to you.

This is a collection of Frank Sinatra's never before published intimate photos with detailed captions, mostly snap shots taken by the legendary Hollywood photographer, Bob Willoughby, who also did photo collections of Elizabeth Taylor and Audrey Hepburn. This 207-page paperback is virtually a 'feast-on-the-eyes' for any fan of the Chairman of the Board.

Willoughby focused on the singer/actor's very good years in the movies from 1953 thru 1965, commencing with the movie "From Here To Eternity" which was a blockbuster at the box office and garnered numerous Oscar Awards, to his 1965 movie, "Marriage On The Rocks" with Deborah Kerr, Dean Martin and Sinatra's daughter, Nancy. On this section shows a full-page photo of Sinatra standing in front of a Divorce Attorney's office which has a big sign that reads: "Divorce your loved one with dignity." Mr. Willoughby did a fantastic job in putting all these photos together, spotlighting on Sinatra's stolen moments with his co-stars Dean Martin, Deborah Kerr, Shirley MacLain, Sammy Davis, Jr., Peter Lawford, Judy Garland, Kim Novak and also the great arranger/conductor and Sinatra's very good friend, Nelson Riddle, among many others.

Highly recommended to all Sinatra enthusiasts. This will be a nice addition to your Sinatra books.

This book is a suberb look at Frank Sinatra from photos that have never been seen before and are simply fascinating. The book itself is beautifully put together and every picture gleams.
The captions are extensive and informative. A lot of care went into this book. In many ways it is superior to the It Was a Very Good Year Book, which was much more popular - higher quality photos, a lot in color, a lot of prime information about some of Sinatra's best films. If you are thinking of getting this, GET IT!! You won't be sorry!
