Book Description
Phil Cresta was no run-of-the-mill thief. Mastermind of the legendary Brink's armored truck robbery and a string of countless other high-stakes heists, he stole more than ten million dollars in escapades that often were breathtakingly daring and at times marvelously inventive. The robberies baffled both police and fellow outlaws for decades, and most of the crimes remain unsolved today. Now the open case files of these memorable thefts can be closed as Cresta himself provides the true story on how they were planned and carried out.
Born in Boston's North End in 1928, Cresta was raised in an abusive household. He was sent to Concord Reformatory as a teenager, where he learned the craft of picking locks, a skill later honed during stays at the Charlestown and Walpole prisons in Massachusetts. Following the Brinks robbery in 1968, he was put on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted List, but eluded the law for five years, living in Chicago under an assumed name. After serving time at Walpole for the Brinks job, Cresta died penniless in Chicago in 1995. Yet shortly before his death, he revealed the full extent of his astonishing capers to coauthor Bill Crowley, a retired Boston police detective.
Drawing from their extensive conversations, this riveting page-turner chronicles how Cresta, along with partners "Angelo" and "Tony," pulled off robberies of jewelers, rare coin dealers, furriers, and armored trucks, detailing the meticulous planning that marked his criminal career. Cresta's final accounting is brimming with vivid tales of betrayal, murder, and intrigue as well as a colorful cast of characters, including mob bosses, wise guys, informants, paid "ears," corrupt judges, a Hollywood starlet, and even the Mayor of Chicago.
Filled with drama, tension, and humor, this absorbing saga takes the reader inside the dangerous yet exhilarating world of a life dedicated to crime.

Unbelievable! Unbelievable the story is true that is..........2005-10-24
Very well done. Will make a great movie too.
Wannabe wiseguys might want to read this book.......2004-04-06
A lot of fun to read. You can't help but laugh at a lot of these true-crime stories. You just can't make this stuff up. This book would make a great movie.
Final Confession.......2002-07-16
Very enjoyable. I agree with other reviewers about its
contents. My vote to play Phil Cresta in a movie is
Robert Di Nero. Looking forward to the movie.
Good read, not great, but good.......2001-04-26
A Decent book, very interesting read. The style in which the story is told is very engrossing as it is told from the first person. The one drawback to the book is that it is based on one persons recollections and biases. With the exception of the Plymouth mail truck robbery most of these crimes were standard criminal enterprises, hardly crime of the century material. Of the crime he boasts the most of, a Brinks hold up, Cresta ended up going to prison. This is the story of a man who thought he was smarter then he was and in the end, was too smart for his own good.
Can't wait for the movie!!!.......2001-03-13
I read until I finished (3am), because I couldn't put it down. It is a very well written, interesting, and entertaining story of an lifestyle that is often contrived or overdone by others in the genre. The no-nonsense, unapologetic tone is definitely fitting of the central figure, Phil Cresta. I give my highest recommendation, which doesn't show itself very often. I can't wait for the movie, and you shouldn't either. Get a copy, block some time (I doubt you'll be able to put it down either), and enjoy.

Great Reference.......2000-06-26
Its great to have a book that owners and veterinarians alike can read for reference. Ferrets aren't as popular as dogs and cats, therefore books and information on ferrets are hard to find. This book is a comfort to have for any ferret-owner.

Pleasure Manual.......2007-05-10
Women can learn about their own pleasure with this sex manual. The tone of this book is all about having fun and forgetting conventionality.
Just plain good fun!!.......2007-02-23
This book is fun. It's all about not being hung up on convention, not getting bogged in old values, guilt or any of that. It's straight talking, like a night out with the girls and Ms Sincero has no hesitation in being very frank and explicit to describe and detail what she is saying.
For we blokes it helps us understand what might be a fantasy or need in our partners and get a feel for that from a woman's perspective, addressing threesomes, anal, toys and pretty much everything, often made properly relevant by Ms Sincero relaying some of her own personal experiences. Happily Ms Sincero also addresses the emotional issues with care and the respect they deserve. Someone exploring somewhere they don't want to go is equally as damaging and tragic as someone not exploring where they do want to go.
It may not be for everyone but Ms Sincero happily lets the reader feel entitled to know what they do or don't want without guilt or pressure and shares her pleasures and celebrates some of her adventures with her readers. Ms Sincero makes me wish I was a woman, she makes `picking up chicks' sound like for a woman it's even more fun than for a man.
So girls, read, laugh, maybe learn a little about your own pleasure, enjoy and, who knows? You may even decide you'd like to share what you enjoy with another woman. Happily Ms Sincero also addresses the fact that such things aren't for everyone, allowing for the fact that, no matter how much denial many of us may live in, the most ideal situation for true Loving Caring relationship beauty can be found in the security of exclusivity and a history of trust and track record. However, for those of us who don't have that in our lives and can use our sexuality as a veritable playground if we want, Ms Sincero provides a manual for some good clean guilt free fun. Cheers-Lloyd
Interesting `How To' and `What With' Manual (3.5*s).......2006-08-23
One could wonder if there is a need for this book? The author makes no attempt to supply any data concerning how widespread the desire or practice is for straight girls wanting to engage with other females. Her data collection seems to be rather limited - hardly scientific. In any event, the book is interesting and informative.
The book is mostly a sex manual. It covers positions, techniques, enhancing apparati, protective measures, etc - and quite well. Some of the protection techniques seem obnoxious. Maybe better screening of possible partners is a better alternative. There are some good basic points. Who can argue with the desirability of the female body. And then there is the almost infinite ability for female sustained lovemaking.
Beyond technique, it would seem that straight women would want much more commentary on even beginning such relationships without destroying current situations. Sorry, not much help there. The author's self-debate about whether such activity is indicative of bi-sexuality is pretty fuzzy, but in the end, as she says, is mostly irrelevant.
Perhaps the book can fill a void. It is informative and mildly encouraging for those with the desire but with cold feet.
overhyped and basically useless .......2006-07-20
Ok lets get down to why you should save your money and NOT get this book. First of all the author dedicates two or three chapters on WHY chicks should sleep with chicks. Well if your buying this book then I would think that your already curious or interested, correct? Then the author shares some really great "secrets" on the where and how to pick up other chicks, let me take the time to write some of them down here for you, first this no brainer, "Get them intoxicated, and my all time favorite,"take them behind a dumpster and get them to smoke weed". The author then fills the book up with helpfull hints like, "go put an ad on the internet" Dang, I would have never thought of that!! In summary, you can buy this book if you want, but don't expect anything other than common sense stuff, and I use the term VERY lightly!! Thank you for your time.
Women, don't let this book poison your mind.......2006-07-07
It's trying to turn straight women into leabians. If more women read this book they will just be influnce by it and start sleeping with women and no more men will have a woman. Don't Jen Sincero even cares about men. I hate lesbians cause they hate men.

A benchmark for intelligent, engaging nonfiction, this superbly designed book is written and illustrated with a lushness that takes the breath away. Robert Cumming is chairman of Christie's education department: he knows his art history. But he also knows how to seduce you with the sheer beauty of the material, and the well-placed pointer to telling details. Fifty double-page spreads cover artists from da Vinci and Rubens to Monet, Picasso, and Pollock. Each spread is a concentrated master-class on the life, the style, and the influence. Check out the luminous full-color reproductions of "Bacchus" and "The Conversion of St. Paul," then read the opening sentence above them--"One of the few great artists to have a criminal record, Caravaggio was violent, loutish, and frequently under arrest"--and see if you can resist the temptation to read on. Great Artists is a dream of a book that adults and their older children will fight over. (Ages 12 to adult) --Richard Farr
Customer Reviews:
Not for elementary children.......2007-10-05
Take the Young Adult age recommendation seriously. I purchased an updated copy of this book at an elementary school book fair. I'm not squeamish about nudity in art, but the text includes lots of words like "erotic", "homoerotic", "prostitute", "ravished", and "rape". Be aware that this could create a lot of questions that you may not be ready to answer, and your child may not be ready to hear. On the other hand, I quite enjoyed it and would recommend the book for older teens, college students, and adults.
Not What I Expected.......2006-08-12
I bought this book to help in our artist appreciation with my primary children in our home school. I don't have a problem with nudity in art work, and am willing to discuss and explain the reasons for nudity to my children. However, the book is overwhelmingly filled with nudity. At least twenty pages have rather large pictures of nudes and many are in seductive poses. I do not feel comfortable allowing my children to freely browse through this book and felt that the authors could have chosen different pieces of work that could have equally displayed the works of the artists.
I hoped for more.......2005-10-23
I was hoping for a book which helped the reader SEE the actual paintings of the masters. The particular brushstroke that made the painting interesting. The unusual shade or hue of color that made the flower come out of the painting. That sort of book. It is not. Still it has good illustrations and good information about the artists it covers.
Great Artists: Lives of 50 painters.......2005-07-26
This art book is a great bargain for the quality of the reproductions is very good. The writing is excellent.
A gorgeous and informative book!.......1999-03-30
This oversized book has dovoted 2 pages to each important artist from the 1400's to Jackson Pollock. As with all D-K books, the reproductions are wonderful and the information is fascinating. The arthor gives a mixture of facts about the artist's life, painting of the period, key works of the painter, and other events happening in the world at the time. I love this book!
Book Description
As the son of Mary Queen of Scots, born into her 'bloody nest,' James had the most precarious of childhoods. Even before his birth, his life was threatened: it was rumored that his father, Henry, had tried to make the pregnant Mary miscarraige by forcing her to witness the assasination of her supposed lover, David Riccio. By the time James was a one-year-old, Henry was murdered, possibly with the connivance of his mother, Mary was in exile in England and he was King of Scotland. By the age of five, he had experienced three different regents as the ancient dynasties of Scotland battled for power and made him a virtual prisoner in Stirling Castle. In fact, James did not set foot outside the confines of Stirling until he was eleven, when he took control of the country. But even with power in his hands, he would never feel safe. For the rest of his life, he could be caught up in bitter struggles between the warring political and religious factions who fought for control over his mind and body.

The Scottish take over .......2007-06-17
Often books about European royalty are so complex that the reader needs to have a finger forever on family trees as he/she wades though the chapters. This book about a critical leader in our Anglo-Saxon past is very easy to read and provides some important new information and highlights the critical bonds between England and Scotland at the end of the Tudor era. I highly recommend this very readable book
The first ruler of Britain, almost a capable plotter.......2006-01-20
What machinations! The court of the Tudors and Stuarts in the late sixteenth and early seventeenth century were not easy places to navigate. For a young boy left by his mother to the in-fighting of Lairds and nobles it was an even more difficult place. It would be considered tragic now, that a boy like James should be used as a pawn for others gains, but for his time it was simply a game, and a game with huge wins and losses.
Alan Stewarts book is almost very very good but I felt it fell short on many points. It is a highly readable work, and it covers some excellent matieral I had never read about before - the plotting and constant scheming of the courts. It also, to my relief, treated the issues in context to the time. There was no moralising about what happened, but it was very much presentation of the facts and their consequences.
James VI of Scotland had grown up literally an orphan with his mother imprisoned in England and then beheaded. While he managed to manipulate the Scottish court, the intricacies of the British Court escaped him and his ability to rule England was often compromised. Perhaps too, in comparison to Elizabeth I he paled in significance in all aspects.
This is a pretty good presentation of the first of the Stuart Kings who lasted little more than a century - but in that time managed a huge amount of upheaval to the British landscape and temperament.
Book Description
James VI and I united the crowns of England and Scotland. His books are fundamental sources of the principles that underlay the union and among the most influential writings of their period. James' political philosophy was a moderated absolutism, shedding light on the political climate of Shakespeare's England and the intellectual background to the civil wars of the mid-seventeenth century. This edition is the first to draw on all the early texts of James' books, with an introduction setting them in their historical context.

Book Description
This is a historical study of the career of King James VI and I, as king of Scotland (1567-1625) and England (1603-1625), who achieved a union of the crowns as the first king of Great Britain, and who undertook to end the recurring religious wars. His peacemaking by diplomatic means was complemented by his efforts to foster closer relations among the churches. The peace that he helped to maintain by these initiatives, though cut short by the coming of the Thirty Years' War, was immensely beneficial both to Britain and to the other countries of Europe.
Customer Reviews:
A Comprehensive Look at Jacobean England.......2001-12-14
A very thorough and perceptive analysis of the Reign of James VI of Scotland, later to be James I of England. Patterson's depiction of James as a conciliatory force within British Christendom is well supported in this excellent period history. Articulate and intellectually stimulating.
A Significant Historic Contribution.......2000-12-01
Dr. Patterson's King James VI and I and the Reunion of Christendom is a significant contribution to the volume of works written about early 17th Century . The work shows that James tried to acheive an ecumenical union among the fractured states of Europe in a century that saw one crisis after another. The incredible amount of research that went into this book is clearly evident. This would make an excellent addition to anyone's library.

Book Description
The enthralling story of Thomas Hope, who counselled three kings through a tumultuous time in Scottish history. The son of an Edinburgh merchant, Hope had a spectacular beginning to his career—at the age of seventeen, he travelled to France to triumph in his first court case and caught the attention of his young king, James VI. It was the beginning of a life at the heart of the government of Scotland. From James VI and I to Cromwell, from John Knox to Montrose, Lord Advocate Hope was a rock in a fast-changing world. He witnessed the reigns of Charles I and Charles II, the founding of the East India Company, affairs of state and affairs of the heart, and matters political and diplomatic.

A good biography on a not well known queen.......2007-01-12
Anne of Denmark, wife of James VI & I, has not inspired very many biographers and historians in comparison with her predecessor, Elizabeth I, and her successor, Henrietta Maria. However, Anne was the first queen of both England and Scotland, the first consort in the House of Stuart. And given the rumors circulating about the sexuality of James I, it's surprising that more has not been written about their marriage.
This biography does a good job of detailing Anne's life as a princess in Denmark, in particular where she was during those years and her relationship with her parents and grandparents. Those years have been all but lost in other writings of Anne and James. Her years as queen in both Scotland and then England are also well detailed, considering that there is not as much information on her day to day life as there should be.
Overall, for those who wish to gather information on a mostly forgotten queen and court, I believe this biography is a good place to start.
