Customer Reviews:
Used it Constantly!.......2007-07-09
We took a family trip to Prague. This book gives you several walking tours that will help you thoroughly tour the city. Absolutely would not go to Prague without it!
Useful travel book.......2004-08-31
I had this book with me on a recent trip to Prague. It was very helpful, including the colorful, pull-out maps. We went to two restaurants mentioned in the book, and both experiences were very good. The book also has some "walks" that take you through the different parts of the city, with landmarks clearly marked. It was relatively thin and small, so it was not a pain to carry it all around the city. The maps were probably the most useful for us. I would recommend this book for someone who wanted a good overall picture of Prague and its main attractions. If you want something more in depth, you might want a bigger book.

Book Description
A dramatic 1957 murder trial in Gainesville, Florida, examines the role of a misfit in a closed southern society. The defendant, a Jewish, deaf man, stands accused of murdering the wife of the town's prosecutor. The author, a boy in Gainesville during the time of the trial, looks beyond the trial transcripts by exploring Phillip Singer's life and what led him to commit the crime.
Customer Reviews:
Phillip Singer:An accounting.......2003-12-17
This most-amazing account of the life of a deaf man holds the reader's attention through all four sections. Historical events are reconstructed by the author after forty years. A great surprise ending. This should be a movie. I recommend it highly.

Book Description
Every quilter will want to possess this stunning anthology, which features 10 years worth of the most innovative pieces chosen for the Quilt National biennial exhibition--the top showcase for modern quilt artists. Acclaimed author Robert Shaw, a widely recognized expert on American folk art, introduces the volume and provides both a beautifully illustrated history of the art quilt movement and a special section on building, displaying, and caring for collection of quality pieces. The techniques and materials featured in these 400 spectacular quilts are as varied as the people who created them, and through spectacular color photographs and artists' discussions, readers will discover how the boundaries of traditional quilt-making have expanded in the last decade.

Art Quilts-The good, the bad, there is no ugle.......2007-06-01
This is the companion book to the PBS dvd, The Art of Quilting. If you do traditional quilting, this is not for you. For you who crazy quilt or art quilt, this is eye candy over the top. Many of the quilts were featured in the PBS dvd. But there is so much more in the book. This is the book to pick up when you are feeling "quilter's block". The beautiful pictures will inspire your creative side. The pictures are well done, in color and beautiful. This book will get worn since you will looking at it again and again.
Gorgeous photos of stunning quilts.......2007-05-20
Amazing inspirational book for quilters. This is one you'll turn to again and again before you reach for the fat quarters! Well worth the money.
Art Quilts.......2007-05-09
This is a large book, and page after page shows absolutely stunning quilts. I gave a copy to my friend for her birthday, and although it wasn't expensive, she kept commenting on the pleasure it gave her.
Art Quilts: Celebration: 400 Stunning Contemporary Designs.......2006-08-11
I loved it and so does everyone I show it to! It gives you so many ideas for your own projects and is visually simulating no matter what type of artist you are.
Art Quilts: A Celebration of 400 Contemporary Designs.......2006-07-10
I am really disappointed in this book; it is not what I expected. It has a lot of pictures, as promised but, I do not like hardly any of the designs (only 1 in the whole book that I think is rather nice). I also assumed that some instructions on techniques would be included--they're not.

Customer Reviews:
Practical but concise guide to underground goodies........2007-02-12
`The Complete Book of Bulbs, Corms, Tubers, and Rhizomes' by Brian Mathew and Philip Swindells, both British horticulturists, is an ambitious title which comes about as close as a 240 page book, even an oversized 240 paged book can come to being anywhere close to a `complete' treatment of such a broad subject.
The very first thing I notice about the book are the really attractive colored drawings used to illustrate some of the more important points in the beginning of the book, such as the tables illustrating planting depth. As nice as photographs are for most purposes, a colored drawing is often even better, because it focuses on the one important idea it is trying to communicate, leaving out every extraneous detail, not to mention unwelcome shadows and ill-positioned lighting.
The second thing that appeals to me is the heavy use of accurate scientific nomenclature. In the world of flowers where there are often several different names for the same thing, the only sure way you know you are talking about the same thing in two different books is if you use the scientific name. This extends even to common group names, so that in place of daffodils, all talk is of narcissus and in place of amaryllis, we discuss Hippeastrum. And, thankfully, the common but unused terms do appear in the index with a pointer to the term being used to identify the plant type.
While the book discusses four different types of underground structures that store nourishment from blooming to blooming, the book is organized more by season than by type of plant. Since most of us are far less concerned about whether our crocus plants are bulbs or corms (they are corms) than we are about when to plant what, this makes a lot of sense. Thus, for each season, there is a list of plants of all four types that bloom in that season.
The first 57 pages are taken up with introductory chapters that again focus on function rather than on variety (after a brief introduction covering the difference between the four). The highlight of this introduction is a very nicely drawn `life cycle' for a representative of each of the four plant types.
One thing I find just a bit surprising is that while this `complete' book seems to cover all perennials with underground food storage structures, it does not. For example, it says virtually nothing about dahlias, which my unabridged dictionary describes as having tuberous roots and does a very good job of reminding me of that famous tuber, the potato. I will take it on faith that dahlia's are not `true' tubers and are therefore outside the purview of this book (but maybe they should have said something to this effect).
The list of suppliers is very nice and as a heavy customer of U.S. purveyors of bulbs, it looks pretty complete to me. A real novelty, interesting, but of no practical use for us Yanks is maps of European, Australian, and New Zealand planting zones. Oi, Oi, Oi!
A very nice book if you can come by a copy for less than the $30 list price.

Customer Reviews:
Ask him about his first wife.......2007-08-03
I read this psycho-junk and that is exactly what it is. Ask the good doctor about his first failed marriage and how that came about. Sounds like "conditional love" to me. I would give it a negative five if I could.
ICK!!!! Worst book ever!.......2007-07-19
This is the worst book I have ever laid my eyes on. It has nothing to do with anything "real." In fact, it was all about not taking responsibility for anything you do, and not expecting anything from anyone. I shudder to think that this actually got published. My dog could write something better than this rubbish!
Unrelenting honesty, death of ego and hard work.......2007-05-20
Finally, I have an answer as to why so many of my relationships have failed.
Greg's "truth" is brutal, but necessary. In the end, the only hurt is to
the ego, which is only an illusion (albeit a powerful one, and somewhat
necessary in this physical world). As somebody who has been studying Wayne
Dyer ("The Power of Intention") and other metahpysical works, this book is
a wonderful complement to my spiritual practice. It applies to all
romantic orientations. "The Secret" is getting a lot of attention, and the
study of attractor patterns is finally reaching the human concsiousness
on a large scale (e.g., "Power Vs. Force: The Hidden Determinants of Human Behavior,"
by David R. Hawkins). We are Spiritual beings having a human experience.
Greg's book was brought to my attention by the Center for Spiritual Living,
in Santa Rosa, CA, as part of a Wednesday night service. It spawned a study
group and is a wonderful adjunct when studied along with metaphysical
principles. Also, it came along just as I was ending another relationship.
But, I was comforted because, for the first time, the hows and whys of what
went wrong were right there in black and white. Now the real work begins,
and I am going to take the time to do the internal work so that I can love
others because their happiness means more to me than my own, and not
because of how they make me feel. It will be a challenge, but it is worth
it. I am grateful for this wonderful knowledge that Greg Baer presents
with amazing simplicity. Understanding his point is the easy part. No more
imitation love for me. I would rather be single than place so many rules
on free spirits. But, since I desire a partner, the work has begun.
Thanks. If everybody read, understood and applied the knowledge of this
book, I think we might see and end to the sad dramas on daytime
television. Thank you, Mr. Greg Baer!
The best practical guide to living a happier life!.......2007-04-23
This book is the best book I have ever read about love, life and the pursuit of happiness.
Greg Baer talks about how we can find real, unconditional love, eliminate anger from our relationships and become more loving ourselves. Most of us did not experience unconditional love when we grew up. When we were quiet and obedient, the adults around us were kind and smiled at us. But when we were messy and noisy, they responded with sharp, angry voices. In order to protect ourselves from our parents' anger or disapproval, we developed protective behaviors like withdrawing, lying, attacking, clinging or acting like a victim. We carry those behaviors into adulthood, where they serve us reasonably well, but generally don't make us happy. We also rely on things like money, shopping, flattery, alcohol, etc. to keep us "happy". You could call those things imitation love, because they make us happy in the short term, but never in the long term.
When we stop blaming others for our own unhappiness we have taken the first step towards a happier life. Greg Baer lays out a very practical approach to happiness, which I have found missing in many other books. Instead of "just be happy" or "stop being angry" (if it was only that easy), he details a few simple steps to take. They may not be easy, but they're simple and very doable!
3 years ago my life was a mess - I was constantly yelling at my two boys, and my husband and I were barely communicating with each other. By reading Greg Baer's book with a group of people in a book club format we learned the steps and supported each other on our path. Today our group is still going strong and meets every Tuesday evening. My life is much different today; I am much happier and have regained my sense of hope for the future.
The Holy Grail!!!.......2007-03-09
What can I say? I've read every book, taken every class and listened to every so called "Wiseman/Wisewoman." Dr. Greg Baer walks the walk! Real Love is the key to true and lasting happiness!
Love,
Rev. Sandra Lee Serrano
Peacemaker
Book Description
In his insightful and engrossing lecture, Leo Steinberg surveys and critiques the work of Robert Rauschenberg, one of the great American post-war artists. He also discusses his own experience as a critic in the exciting and turbulent art world of New York in the 1950s and 1960s. The result is a rare glimpse not only into Rauschenberg, but also into Steinberg.
With the sharpness and confidence that can only come from a critic who has long been involved with Rauschenberg's work, Steinberg offers an in-depth discussion of such major pieces as the Erased DeKooning Drawing, Bed, and Monogram. He explains the subtle differences between his interpretations and those of other critics, such as Clement Greenberg and Hilton Kramer. He candidly reflects on how he has changed his mind over the years, and defends his new ideas about Rauschenberg's work with precise, fresh arguments. He critically evaluates Rauschenberg's more recent work and addresses how it falls short from the artist's earlier work.
From Rauschenberg's silk-screen prints of the 1960s to the vegetable dye transfer prints of the 1990s, Steinberg warns against the dangers of overinterpretation and iconographic enthusiasm. He argues that the unifying strand through this great artist's work is his drive to appropriate, to take objects and images from the world and make them his own by making them become a part of his art.
Provocative, intelligent, and beautifully articulated, Steinberg's words shed light on one remarkable artist and on the post-war New York art scene, on Steinberg's particular appreciation of Rauschenberg and on his life's work as an art critic.
Customer Reviews:
Encouragement from a leading critic.......2005-10-24
A lecture by the late Leo Steinerg, one of the leading lights of American Art History. It is personal and informal, fitting the occasion,an event honoring Rauschenberg, of whose work he was an early supporter. This is pleasant reading, particularly for those accustomed tothe more complex style of his academic writing.
The only disappointment I experienced was in my failure to find any reason, which resonated with me, as to why I should be equally impressed by the work of this contemporary of mine. However, to many, Rauschenberg is a signicant contemporary artist, for them, this graceful piece will evoke the glow that comes from shared sentiments.
The majority of works shown in full color........2003-07-21
I agree that this small book is engaging and a fun read. Even more, I thought the images of Rauschenberg's work were very well chosen and by far the majority in color. I was shocked that Mary Lynn Kotz chose to show Rauschenberg's "Winter Pool" in black and white (tragedy!)in her book, "Rauschenberg/Art And Life"...it is in full color in this gem. I would buy this book first.
A gem of a book.......2000-05-22
This is not a typical lecture. It is Leo Steinberg at his best--witty, learned, insightful--giving us a brief survey of Robert Rauschenburg's art from the early 1950s until the present day. The book is beautifully designed and printed, and makes a great gift for anyone interested in the New York art scene. A lot of book for the buck.
