      5 out of 5 stars Easy-to-follow, native's guide with good suggestions.......2006-08-01

I found the guide to be VERY well organized and helpful. The restaurant and hotel suggestions (we stayed at the Cow Hollow Motor Inn) were helpful and spot on. We were not disappointed.

The fold out map could have been more extensive, especially because a couple of the restaurants were in locations that extended beyond the map itself.

The book is light (weight-wise) which is a plus in my view especially when you're doing a lot on foot.

3 out of 5 stars not very nicely structured.......2006-06-21

this is the book that has enough information in it but organized in a strange way. it's perfect for people who don't want to think themselves at all. it's got all the daily itineraries you can follow without thinking and judging. but i'd rather it simply provides the information and let me do the planing. in order to do that you have to flip back and forth all the time because information about the same place can be in different sections everywhere. e.g, one place could be under romantic and reginal and shopping section. so if you just want to go to this place, you have to refer to both and it's easy to miss something. but i do like the nice pictures in the book.

I have a jungle carpet python, Morelia spilota cheynei. The book listed its sci. name as Python spilotus vareigatus cheynei. They have warped their true names, eliminating the Morelia classification. I have seen better info in the Barron's series, which I recommend. Here, the pics are great, but the info is poor. Do not buy.

                    Wire jewelry reimagined

In search of new ways to explore the potential of crochet and knitting, renowned designer Annie Modesitt picked up some unusual tools: wire, beads, and ribbon. The results were unlike anything she’d created before: sparkling, multifaceted creations with intricate texture and movement. Annie was hooked—and you will be too. This collection of bracelets, necklaces, earrings, and pins opens a whole new avenue for crafters looking for the fun, the unusual, and the beautiful.

Annie guides you through the basics of knitting and crocheting with wire—including casting on, stitching, blocking, binding off, and more. She also offers advice to experienced knitters and crocheters for translating skills from yarn to wire, including basics like selecting the right metals and tools. The projects allow a wide range of customization so that each piece of jewelry you make can be unique. Detailed illustrations and full-color photographs accompany each design. From a sterling silver bracelet and a loosely knit necklace bedecked with pearls, to a blue velvet choker and woven wreath earrings, these projects combine metal with beads, fabric, and gems in the most innovative ways.

“Wire knitting sparkles, it shines and glimmers. When I wear a jewelry piece I have knit, I feel adorned,” Annie Modesitt writes. So adorn yourself with these uniquely beautiful creations!

3 out of 5 stars Not sold on this book.......2007-09-29

Annie is a great designer whose knit patterns I've come to love, so thought I'd give this book a try as well. Although the photography is second to none and inspiring the patterns, for me, lacked indepth directions. They need to be more complete. I also feel that its the basic same pattern over and over just extended to a greater width and more beads with slight variations, primarily cuff/choker designs. Actually the pieces look uncomfortable to wear.

                    4 out of 5 stars I like this one..........2007-07-05

For as long as I have crocheted, I never really considered doing jewelry until lately when I started doing kumihimo braiding. As in many crochet books, patterns are recycled and predictable. But I have to say this book has provided me with a reason to rethink and maybe give the craft a try. The explanations and directions are not over explained, the photography is lovely and the designs inspiring. You shouldn't use this book to learn to crochet, have a better than beginner understanding of how to knit or crochet and doing a little research at your local bead store (we have some great ones here in DC) and handling some tools at the local hardware shop (not all needle-nose pliers are equal) wouldn't hurt either.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful book, great inspiration and instruction.......2007-07-03

There are some really nice designs in this book, and just a few which are a little over the top that I probably will never make. Most of them are quite 'wearable'. The book is filled with amazing photography where you can clearly see the details of the wire pieces.

Plus, there are great chapters on how to knit with wire, and how to crochet with wire--very informative. The book is made up of the following chapters:
                    Necklaces
                    Bracelets
                    Sets
                    Earrings and Pins
                    Knitting with wire
                    Crocheting with wire
                    Finishing wire pieces
Resources (great recommendations on where and what to buy)

4 out of 5 stars Great way to start.......2007-06-14

This book has beautiful projects to make. The instructions are fairly simple and helpful. Though there are some areas where I wish that they had better pictures to explain, I did find that the descriptions are pretty accurate (especially when telling you what the wire should feel like and how you should feel like you are over-exaggerating your movements). I highly recommend this book to a beginner, but even more so for an intermediate wire-knitter who just wants to be inspired by some beautiful projects.

                    2 out of 5 stars Disappointed.......2007-06-07

There weren't dozens of products. There were several errors in patterns. And these are expensive little things to make.

                    Book Description

Crocheting takes on a new dimension in this fun and creative collection of 30 stunning yet easy-to-make necklaces, earrings, and bracelets—all made using wire. Like most of the books on this type of medium, you should know how to crochet first and in the case of this book, know how to read a pattern. The designs are simple and depending on your taste, not thrilling. However, it's a beginner book. Let this one be the book you use to learn the craft then once you have the fundamentals down, let you own style come out!

5 out of 5 stars Very cool projects that you really want to make!.......2007-07-03

This is such a neat little book. It measures 6x7", so it can easily go with you in your crochet bag. The photos are fantastic, and the designs are very wearable. I want to make nearly every one of them.
It covers basic how-to techniques, as well as what tools you will need and specific crochet techniques with wire and beads.

                    The projects are:
                    Bracelets (2)
                    Necklaces (3)
                    Sets (10)
                    Purse (1)
                    Baskets (3)
                    Box (1)

Instructions/patterns are very clear, and some include schematics. It is a great little crochet jewelry book!

I rated this book as I did because I found that the best design I would be interested in making is on the front cover. I expected the quality of the designs inside to be just as elegant. This is just my opinion based upon what I was looking for. For someone else this book may be just the right mix of variety of designs for them.

I have just started crocheting with wire and out of the approximately 10 books I have collected, this one is my favorite. It has good information in it along with helpful directions. The pictures of the jewelry and baskets are beautiful. I like the projects because they are different without being something too over-the-top for the average person to actually wear.

I bought 5 shade gardening books at once, and this is the one that I like the best. It is very easy to read, informative, and has a good balance between text & pictures. There is much good advice for the novice gardener in this book. Highly recommend.

5 out of 5 stars Great introductory book.......2001-04-05

I recently got five shade gardening books in one "go" and this is the one I like the best. It is very practical with advice for the "klutzy" or novice gardener. My one complaint is not enough pictures of the plants described - but get a picture guide (like the Taylor's guide) as a complementary book and you'll be all set. It also has a mail-order nursery guide in the back, so you can GET all the plants described. I'm very satisfied with this book.

I have used this book extensively to decided on which plants I want to plant in certain areas. It is not perfectly suited to Québec, as the truly hardy selections are not always included, but very useful in any case

Every parent of twins knows that raising them can be full of unique challenges. Getting through the first twelve months may be especially difficult, but that is only the first hurdle. In Raising Twins After the First Year, author Karen Gottesman, a mother of boy-and-girl twins herself, guides parents through the many specific issues they will face as their twins grow from age one to ten. She covers ways to deal with “the terrible two’s times two”—potty training, the legitimacy of cryptophasia (twin language), sibling rivalry, managing double mood swings, how to start to give your twins independence, and much more. Completely practical and down-to-earth, Raising Twins After the First Year will be a useful and comforting resource for every parent bringing up twins.

When I saw the title of this book I was thrilled -- it was exactly what I was looking for! But I was very disappointed when I began reading it. I hoped the book would get better with each chapter but it only got worse... The chapters based on age are very limited and short. It was so basic and boring that I was shocked this book even got published. It explains many "no-brainer" to parents of twins. An example is that it takes the time to explain that fraternal twins were created with two eggs and identical twins with one egg. I'm guessing the majority of twin parents already knew that...

I would love to find a book that provides tips in raising twins after the infant stage -- but this book is NOT it.

I was so excited to get this book and when I got to the end I was still waiting for the tricks and advise to the many issues I am having with my 21 month old twins. The author has some good stories and thoughts that pertained to her situations. I didn't seem to find the answers or comments to any problems I was having. I wish there was more info on the problem stages instead of a little info on every stage. I had to stop reading after about a third through the book because I didn't need info on age 5 + yet. I should have gotten a book about toddler issues and then later in life, when needed, buy a book on preteens etc.

The book was a good read but not what I was looking for. Try "Ready or not there we go" by Elizabeth Lyons MUCH better for toddler twins!!!!

I just got this book (my twins turn 1 in a few days) and eagerly read through the first several chapters. It was an entertaing, fun read, but I was a little dissapointed. I was just hoping for more tricks, ideas, and hands-on suggestions. Perhaps it will be more useful when my twins are older.

Very few books on American architects for children exist, period. This is a "must" for any kid (or parent) interested in the subject. Frank Lloyd-Wright for Kids is a wonderful addition to an older child's bookshelf, especially if he or she is interested in the art, architecture, history and/or engineering. In Frank Lloyd Wright for Kids, all these subjects-- plus 21 hands-on activities-- are interwoven to increase awareness and understanding of culture, history and the role of architecture in society. We especially enjoyed the hands-on suggestions- everything from cooking to science to art to poetry. For these reasons this book gets my enthusiastic support.

I'm about to do student teaching and have been preparing elementary ART lesson plans. I purchased this book to support a Frank Lloyd Wright stained glass project (out of tissue and construction paper). It looked like a great children's book for background info. to introduce the concepts of architecture, geometric figures, and some art history. It says 8 and up, but their is no way they would sit through a skimming of this book during class! The pictures are boring and not in color, so much of Wright's appeal are his colors! Especially to children! What was Thorne-Thomsen thinking!? Half the book is wordy bibliography, the other half is a bunch of basic assignments, which are good ideas, but don't really follow through.. for example, the Fallingwater graham cracker house - which sounded neat, doesn't actually have directions, it just suggests you use graham crackers and royal icing and wax paper and cardboard under the structure (DUH!!). Very disappointing.

5 out of 5 stars Very informative! Great for budding architects!.......1999-08-30

This book has black and white, and red pictures of different shapes and structures as well as alot of personal history of Frank Lloyd Wright. It also has games, activities and recipes. Fascinating for our next generation of architects!

                              Book Description

Having seized the throne from his cousin Richard II in 1399, Henry Bolingbroke, the first nobleman to be made king of England since the twelfth century, faced the remarkable challenge of securing his power and authority over a kingdom that was divided and in turmoil. This collection of essays - the first such collection focusing specifically on the reign of the first Lancastrian king - by some of the leading historians of late medieval England, takes a fresh look at the crucial but neglected first years of Henry IV's reign, examining how Henry met and overcame the challenges which his usurpation created. Topics covered include a reappraisal of the events surrounding the revolution of 1399; Henry's relations with his northern magnates; the Yorkshire rising of 1405; the 'Long Parliament' of 1406 and the nature and purpose of the king's council. This collection adds significantly to an understanding of the character of Henry IV, as well as the circumstances in which he ruled, and will be essential for anyone with an interest in late medieval English political history. Dr GWILYM DODD is Lecturer in History at the University of Nottingham; Dr DOUGLAS BIGGS teaches at the Department of History at Waldorf College. Contributors: M. ARVANIGIAN, MICHAEL J.
