Though Nietzsche never called himself an anarchist, his philosophy and writing have provided inspiration and instruction for many of the 20th century's primary anarchist voices. Examines various dimensions of Nietzsche's thought among historical and contemporary anarchist thinkers, hammering out a philosophical iconoclasm much overlooked in historical surveys.

1 out of 5 stars The title is completely misleading.......2002-10-08

To the best of my knowledge, there are freshwater fish and marine (saltwater fish). A book called "understanding FRESHWATER fish", so I would have thought, would include information about coldwater AND tropical fish, since both are, in fact, freshwater fish. This book, however contains information about ONLY coldwater fish. The title, therefore, should be, "understanding COLDWATER fish". Also, the author is ONLY Dick Mills; Gina Sanford's name appears nowhere in the book, as far as I could find.

                Book Description

With a coil, braid, and twist, plus other ingeniously easy techniques, these magnificent silver bracelets, necklaces, and earrings take lovely shape. Each of the 99 projects, illustrated with color photos and diagrams, shows exactly why wire jewelry has become today's hot craft. All that's needed are very basic tools and this helpful advice on making coils, plying wires, stretching out the coils to form graceful waves, joining rings to make elegant chains, fashioning wire into figure eights, incorporating beads, or creating crocheted adornments. Pretty earrings come in a delicate teardrop or corkscrew style, a flat braided necklace has a unique, oxidized finish, and the traditional chain mail bracelet features freshwater pearls. Every piece in this handsome collection is graded for difficulty. A Selection of the Crafters Choice Book Club.

It's a little hard to follow, and it seems like some of the instructions are incomplete.

4 out of 5 stars silver wire jewelry.......2007-01-29

This book is pretty detailed and has interesting designs to try. The only thing I didn't like about it was the pictures of the finished work is not listed on the page where the instructions are. While making a new piece of jewelry, I do like to have the picture on the same page so I can compare what I am doing to the finished work pictured in the book. Otherwise, this book is pretty good.

2 out of 5 stars Beware of incorrect instructions.......2007-01-28

I don't have the same problem the other readers have (although I agree the layout could have been better): My problem is with the first project I attempted in the book (a chainmaille-type necklace)... the sizes of the materials asked for do not jive once you try them. If you've ever worked with wire before you'll know that 2.8mm, 20 gauge jump rings will not link together many 5mm,18 gauge jump rings. The 2.8mm rings are WAY too small! I bought the jump rings because I did not want to wrap my own and than attempted the project only to realize this problem. Now I have to buy new sizes and try to figure out what will be large enough to work together. The pictures are nice and some of the projects look very interesting which is why I wanted to try it but having errors in the instructions is just going to frustrate readers...like myself!

                5 out of 5 stars Excellent.......2006-07-08

I learned a lot from this book. It is the best book for a beginner that I know of. The explanations are clear and no nonsense. It's not a beautiful book; it's a good book.

2 out of 5 stars Awful Awful Layout.......2006-05-13

Like other reviewers, I bought this book (along with Woven Wire Jewelry by Chandler and Ritchey) thinking how on earth could a book be that bad. It was. The layout is simply amateurish and the photography of the projects isn't on the same level as other instructional books I have.

The directions are ok, provided you have some experience working with wire and don't need to see a picture to know you're doing the step correctly.

The projects are not particularly inspired, although there was one stringing technique, more of a beading technique than wire, that I made as the necklace and reused as a bracelet as well, with terrific results.

You may find a project or two in here that strikes your fancy, which would make the purchase of the book worthwhile, but if you're looking for a solid instructional book with plenty of demonstative photos, skip this one and go for Woven Wire Jewely. It's a much better investment.

                  1 out of 5 stars INCORRECT ADVICE.......2007-07-26

This book suggests (on page 57 under 'sleeping') that an infant be put to sleep on his tummy, which is WRONG. Never put a baby on their tummy to sleep to prevent SIDS.

5 out of 5 stars It was first written years ago, .......2007-06-27

but it's still a classic and "must have" book for all expectant and new moms. I used it frequently with my children (who are now grown and having children of their own). I buy this book for every baby shower I attend. Everyone has loved it. Marguerite Kelly provides wisdom, humor and down to earth advice. You will laugh and cry as you read, but you'll NEVER be sorry you did. It's also fast reading!!!!

                  5 out of 5 stars Old-y and good-y!.......2007-03-20

I read this when I was pregnant with my daughter (and then used it throughout her early childhood.) She'll be 32 in June. It really helped me understand what she was "doing" and gave me wonderful advice and reassurance. Super activities & recepies, too.
My husband and I have several friends who are just starting their families and we have bought each of them a copy.
I love the writing style: "Our Nadia...." Two women wrote it together and describe all their children's behaviors, without doing a "mine & hers" kind of distinction.

                  5 out of 5 stars What a Terrific Help!.......2007-01-06

As a new, clueless mom, this book helped so, so much! Ideas such as giving the baby his/her own spoon while mom tried to feed the baby. This helped to avoid a battle with the baby attempting to grab mom's spoon. Helped baby learn to feed him/herself, too!

Other practical ideas for emotional support for mom, also!!

I give this to all friends who are new moms.

                  5 out of 5 stars Mother's Bible.......2006-10-15

We bought this book when our kids were babies now they're all married and we're expecting our first Grandchild, a BOY! We bought this book for a baby shower gift for our daughter in law because it is so useful for expecting and non-expecting mothers :-) When we didn't know what to do, the Mother's almanac always steered us in the right direction and we didn't do so badly raising our four children. It's one of the most valuable books a family can have.

                  5 out of 5 stars I love this book!.......2005-11-12

I am a new convert and single mother. Some things were confusing for me, such as saying my daughter "is a sunbeam". This book has helped me understand so much more about the LDS culture and how to apply it to my home. It is written for fairly mainstream mothers - home schooling isn't mentioned in it - but it is very solid information. I have found it to be a great addition to my parenting home library and strongly feel this should be in every LDS home with children.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful LDS Mother's "How To" Book!.......2005-10-13

This is a great book. My husband purchased it for me when I was looking at several "How To" books when my son was a newborn. Since it's for the LDS mother, it has wonderful ideas from how to teach your children the gospel to keeping up your house. It also has a section on increasing your spirituality. I love how it has sections on making your own home-made cleaning products, to budgeting to creating family traditions. It's also broken down to each phase of life (newborn, toddler, preschool, adolesent, teenager, etc.). I love this book and strongly recommend it.

Thanks to this book I'm about to start a new career as a bucket chunker. And I used to think I'd have to stay a technical writer forever. What a find!

Times are tough, so maybe you're not "too good" to be a professional Armpit Sniffer. Good practical information and comical enough to keep an unemployed New Englander from giving up hope. I think anyone who is out of a job or bored with their current career path would like this book.

Mommies At Work is a fabulous book that has become a favorite bedtime read for my two and a half year old daughter. As a working mom, it's great to find a book that so positively depicts mommies doing all kinds of different jobs. Any child with a mom who works outside the home will find something to relate to in this book because it focuses on the important things that moms do to show their love for their kids. Mommies At Work communicates to a child that no matter what kind of job a mom does, her favorite thing is"..coming home to you." This little story reminds me of a similar yet more sentimental take on the subject of working moms - When Mama Comes Home Tonight. Mommies At Work is a nice book that lets kids know that their working mom loves them a lot! It is refreshing that this story is remarkably free of any particular political agenda regarding working mothers which is as it should be for the benefit of the children who read it.

Charles-Édouard Jeanneret, a Swiss-born Frenchman better known as Le Corbusier, may well have been the 20th century's greatest architect. He was also a capable painter, a brilliant theoretician and polemicist, and a terrible city planner. This book does not offer the usual analysis of Le Corbusier's work or his place in history; rather, it is the result of the interaction between Corbu and René Burri, a young Magnum photographer who documented a bit of the architect's life and a few of his buildings between 1955 and his death in 1965.

It's a human story as much as an architectural one, giving clues about how Corbu lived, worked, and related to people in his later years, and how people lived in and used his buildings. This is a wide-ranging work of photojournalism that stands up well decades after its inception. It also provides a look at seven of the designer's structures, including landmarks such as Villa Savoye, the Ronchamp Chapel, La Tourette monastery, and the Unité d'Habitation in Marseilles.

This large, horizontal-format book of 184 pages contains hundreds of photos, mostly black-and-white, and they give people as much prominence as the structures, bringing the architect, his clients, their buildings, and the buildings' occupants to life in a way that conventional architecture tomes do not. A fascinating, one-of-a-kind book that forms a valuable supplement to the standard works on Le Corbusier, it should appeal equally to those interested in documentary photography, architecture, and major cultural figures. --John Pastier

                              Book Description

These beautiful photographs are an outstanding document of value for art and architectural history and will provide many a surprise for those who browse through this volume.
