Customer Reviews:
too little for too much!.......2007-02-04
this book contains little useful information regarding koi keeping...
only a lot of big low resolution (some seem like taken with a cell phone) pics of koi. And of course the price...when I got this book I tought I was beeing scammed...for this money one could buy 5 other realy good books on koi! I realy don't know for whom is this book written. It has little information for begginers and no useful information for pros, only big pics! But you can find better ones on the net...and more information in the wikipedia section on koi...
The only good thing in this book is the paper quality!
The last koi book you'll ever need.......2005-10-04
This book is a work of art, replete with what seems like thousands of gorgeous full-page photos and art prints, as well as essays on a broad range of topics. It's definitely koi-centric, so don't expect a book on pond-building, but for the true aficionado this is a must-have.

Loved it, but knew what to expect.......2007-06-09
I did totally love this book, and had trouble putting it down. That being said - this is not a care guide, and is basically just a book of "fun facts". A lot if the information is common knowlege to anyone who has kept snakes for any length of time, and I didn't learn anything of real particular use in it, but it was fun to read. But then again, I wasn't really looking to find "that gerat lost secret that nobody else has ever known". If you are very new to snakes, or are interested in learning about snakes, or interested in someday purchasing your first snake it would probably be more informative - but is still basically just a fun read, and just has fun facts and tidbits.
Not written by someone knowledgeable about snakes..........2005-12-05
While the format is cute, and it contains some interesting (but questionable) anecdotes, I feel that the author should have enlisted someone in the herp field to help her write this book. The "secrets" aren't really "secret" to many of us who have been keeping snakes for even a little while. The insertion of lizard material just makes it all the more random and disjointed.
Such basic information is better written in a more organized and instructional format to teach the beginner.
Cute but not a Care Guide.......2005-08-02
If you want a cute book to read for entertainment and/or trivia this book is pretty good. If you are looking for a cae guide for your herps, this is not the book. I enjoyed parts of it but was expecting more health tips.
Entertaining, and Cute.......2005-03-24
This book isn't going to help you if you have problems. It won't reveal anything vitally important about the care and maintenance of your herp. But, it is a cute little book, and fun to page through if you're looking for esoteric knowledge. From the title, I really was expecting something more ... useful to a keeper, but for a collection of reptile trivia, it's pretty good.
A Must Have Book!!!!!!.......2003-01-20
I own the Book "277 Secrets Your Snake (and Lizard) Wants You to Know. Unusual and Useful Information for Snake Owners and Snake Lovers." by Paulette Cooper. It is by far the best book I have ever read. I have gotten to understand much much more of the snake world just by reading the first 100 pages out of 181 pages. Its not your regular factual/formal book it isn't that formal at all, it is clearly stated in the book. There are interesting facts, stories that you'll have to read to believe, and extremely useful information for snake owners all over the globe.
So instead of doing hours of research online just to find a simple answer to a simple question, just order the book, check the index and find what your looking for. This wonderful book has helped me in ways I can't even try to explain, all I know is that ever since I read the first page of that book, my pet corn snake (Buddy) and hognose snake (Cobra) have been living the good life.

The only thing that could have been better in this book, is the amount of pictures, it just has a couple of pictures in the middle, that's all. But that's the only negative thing about this book.

A MUST HAVE for every machine quilter. At last, a detailed road map to skilled machine quilting, written by one of the top quilters in the field. Distinguished quilter Diane Gaudynski serves up a practical new approach to quilting by machine. Based on her popular machine quilting series in American Quilter magazine, this book gives readers the ins and outs of creating a design that instantly improves accuracy and fluidity of line. This international prize-winning quilter, author, lecturer, and teacher debunks six common myths about machine quilting. Quilters will especially enjoy the authors detailed description of echo quilting and echo-quilted feathers. Diane states her goal is to add to the quilters knowledge of machine-quilting skills and solve some common problems. She says, Dispelling some myths, learning some simple aids and techniques, and tackling the job in an organized and informed way will allow you to master this most basic of machine tasks.

Why settle for phlox if you can have heliconia? If you want to make your garden and patio a showplace of dramatic exotics such as bromeliads and orchids, this book is the perfect starting point. Jack Kramer, a well-known orchid specialist, begins with the basics: climate zones, garden types and planning, and basic techniques. Houseplants have their own section covering soil, light, temperature, watering, and feeding. The real value of the book is in the discussion (and incredible pictures) of various plant families (amaryllis, arum, banana, begonia, bromeliad, cactus, nepenthes, gesneriad, ginger, lily, and orchid) and their general characteristics and needs. Browse through this excellent book in the winter and plan for spring.

Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Book Description
Finally women can talk about what they used to only dream about....
Forbidden Flowers is Nancy Friday's second collection of sexual fantasies -- and it's even more explicit and outspoken than her original erotic masterpiece, My Secret Garden. The constant refrain from the legions of women across America who read My Secret Garden was, "Thank God I'm not the only one..." who had those wild, exciting erotic thoughts. With Forbidden Flowers, these women can yet again experience the exhilarating freedom that comes with the awareness and acceptance of their sexual selves.

LOVE IT!!!.......2005-04-14
It's great to know that women have the same fantasies as men. I loved this book and continue to savor it as the years go by. Wish she would write another one.
Would Make A Playboy Blush.......2003-11-08
Nancy Friday asked women from around the world to send in their sexual experiences and fantasies. The result was some of the most provocative reading ever published. If you embarrass easily, this book is not for you. Just about every sexual taboo is mentioned in this book and in great detail. But beyond the fantasies and experiences of these women, are the comments and observations of Nancy Friday herself. This book can be an awakening for any man or woman. An awakening in that, if you have had a certain type of fantasy or experience and feel that you are the only person in the world who has had such, you may learn of others who have had similar ones. Or you may be awakened to fantasies you have never thought of, but after reading the book, find yourself thinking about them, or desiring to do them. I have owned a number of copies of this revealing book only to have different individuals borrow them and never return them. I recall once when I was in a snack bar reading the book, some women noticed it and inquired about its contents. I told them what the book was about and they said, it's very good on my part to be interested in what women think about. They then wanted to read a page, just to see what it was all about. But they didn't end up reading only one page. They kept on reading and reading and reading. I finally had to ask for the book in order to get it back, and half of them were blushing. This isn't a porn book by any means, then again no porn book is even in this ones league!!! For various reasons, I don't own an edition of this book now, but, one reason I don't is that if I did, I know it would only be a short time before someone would want to borrow it, and I'd never see it again. If you enjoy reading about women's real sexual fantasies and experiences, you will want this book.
Don't bother.......2002-12-02
"My Secret Garden" was far better. Some of the stories read far more like male fantasies of what "dirty girl" fantasies might be. Somehow, this book just left me cold & bored.
Very Disappointing.......2001-08-05
The basic idea of this book is a good one, that women's sexual fantasies are healthy and normal and something to enjoy. I bought this book hoping to be aroused but was mostly just bored with it. It is just a collection of letters from women who read the first book, My Secret Garden, and are sending in their fantasy for this book. That is fine but each letter is in its entirety and are all basically the same. Example: Dear Nancy, your book changed my life and was great, bla, bla, bla. Next paragraph, let me tell you about myself,(boring) bla, bla, bla. Next paragraph, let me tell you about my fantasy (finally!), then some mostly so-so fantasies (although a few were good) and then another letter--the same thing. Also commentary by Nancy Friday before each chapter and after some letters.(dull and uninteresting to me) Just write some hot fantasies or erotic stories for pure enjoyment!
Wonderfully Hot.......2000-11-11
Let's face it. For most of us, the intellectual aspect of this book and all of Nancy Friday's books on sexual fantasies is not why we read these books. They turn us on. If someone catches us reading them, we can use the excuse that we are interested in social scientific questions about women (and men) and how they think. I think that if not for the social scientific discussions, this book might have been banned in 1973.
The book tries to cover all areas of women's sexual fantasies, so it stands to reason that some parts will squick some readers. I think that it's best not to read it all in one sitting; it will eventually get boring and repetitive. A chapter or two at a time for the first sitting is best. Of course, one will develop a few favorites among all the fantasies, and read them over and over again. I have, but I'm not going to tell which ones. :-)
Men should read this book as well. They're bound to find it as stimulating as women, and it should help them understand women better.
Book Description
The French artist, Rene Lalique (1860-1945) created art--notably glass, jewelry, and architectural decoration--so strikingly bold and original that the word "Lalique" became synonymous with luxury. And while few artists leave a living legacy, Rene Lalique did, in the form of the company that still bears his name and is controlled by his family, which has through the generations refined and added to le style Lalique.

Lalique Illustrations.......2003-12-18
As the author of the Essential Rene Lalique, I'd like to address the issue Mark Waller raised in his review at Amazon.com concerning the images used in the book. Abrams and its partner, Wonderland Press, chose not to use the list of images I submitted with my manuscript, and they also chose not to inform me of their selections. The first time I saw the illustrations was when they sent me a copy of the published book. I too share his frustration at this missed opportunity to present better material.
Harry Abrams what happened!.......2003-07-16
A Book on the antiques field that proclaims on its back cover "be an expert in 5 minutes" (only), has a long way to go to impress me, it has to be said. However the author plainly knows his 20th century glass history and has done his homework on the man, but clearly does not know Lalique' s work or glass. The photos are the same old Christie image collection that might work for an auction catalogue but are dangerously out of context in the hands of an academic. The Images duplicate many of the cataloging errors of the worst type by a junior at Christies-one caption -Car ornaments, perfume bottles and an ink well.
All in all I was sad that Harry N Abrams whose son was a client of mine, who once quoted his father as saying "you should get a hernia taking one of my books off the shelf!" Has, as a first step into a book on this great artist , chosen to produce this diminutive disappointment.
