Being a native of Phoenix Arizona, I found this book very interesting and it tells what makes the most sense. The frightning story and distasteful jokes of Winnie Ruth Judd has been told and re-told for years. "The small beautiful trunk murderess who killed two people..chopped them up..loaded them both into trunks...and took them to LA on a train......alone!!" This never did make sense to me. Except for a few secrets Winnie kept until her death...this book explains what happened.

Second Book On Winnie Offers New Insights.......2003-10-10

the first book on the Judd case "Winnie Ruth Judd: The Trunk Murderess", is a better read than this one, probably because it's authors were screenwriters. But Ms Bomersbach's book has far more information, much of it new and some culled from personal interviews with Winnie Ruth Judd herself! The author is a top notch researcher to be sure, but not a great storyteller. This book works best as a supplement to its predecessor; I think of them as a set, and with Amazon's used book section, they will both be available for years to come for only a couple of dollars each. Note: Get the Sanctuary paperback reprint of this book--updated after Winnie's death, it has more pictures than the hardcover and an expanded text.

Gripping true crime!.......2001-09-04

Back before the Manson Family or OJ, there was Winnie Ruth Judd...the famous murderess who is still a household name for anyone over the age of 90 (just ask my grandmother!). This is a wonderful chronicle of the fascinating true crime case...vivid and immensely readable!

I read this book and now everytime I drive by the State Mental Hospital on Van Buren Street in Phoenix, I think of all the years that Winnie Ruth Judd spent there. This author's brilliant and time consuming research, plus she actually visited and slept at Winnie Ruth Judd's apartment and got the "true" story of all that happened from Winnie Ruth Judd, herself. The story took place in 1931, long before Phoenix became a major city, and is one of the most bizarre stories I have ever read. This is a fascinating story, and I could not put the book down until I had read from the front page to the last page.

Excellent resource for altered book artists.......2007-09-18

I truly enjoy this book as a resource for making altered books. It contains lot of ideas to give your altered books interesting elements and ways to tuck in little extras. I have to disagree with the reviewer who says it is just about scrapbooking. I don't scrapbook at all and find this an invaluable help for my paper arts hobby. However, scrapbookers will enjoy the ideas, as well.

It's OK, but not enough diagrams.......2007-08-02

I got this book because, like many others, wanted to get some good ideas on incorporating these elements into my collage and photo art. The focus is very scrapbook-y, but that wouldn't matter to me if there were at least some good diagrams/step-by-step instructions on how to complete the projects.

I have several other bookbinding books that show complicated binding approaches with diagrams that make it so easy to complete. This book needs some diagrams! In this book, there were many ideas I had seen before, but I still thought the examples are a nice collection of approaches, however, the instructions are poorly written.

On a positive side, the templates are nice.

Since I have several other books that show similar examples, I will probably end up giving this book to a friend who scrapbooks. I do think this is a good book for scrapbookers--the examples and ideas will appeal to them. I'm somewhere between scrapbooking and collage/mixed media artist, so there are other books that appeal to me more.

This is one of the most fun books I've looked at in along time. It had some wonderful swags and arrangements. I'm sure I will get ideas from many of them. Very nice photos.

Useful, but outdated.......2007-02-17

This book provides a solid overview of the adoption process. However, it was written a decade ago, and much of the information is now out-of-date. For people considering international adoption, I'd recommend Dawn Davenport's book, The Complete Book of International Adoption. The two books are similar in content, but Davenport's is current. The Gilman book is still worthwhile, but it wouldn't be my first choice.

Excellent informative reading for beginners in Adoption reaserch...........2006-10-30

This is one of the books that you can say "Don't judge it by its cover". When you see it at first you could say "This is only for couples" but you will get wrong. It's excellent for couple adoptive parent like for single adoptive parent. It's very detailed, it even mention topics that not many adoption book covers. I highly recommend this to anyone that is looking for adoption either you are single or not.

In 1927, the French designer Charlotte Perriand—then only twenty-four years old—won instant acclaim for her design for the "Bar sous le toit" (bar in the garret), shown at the Salon d'Automne in Paris. The project brought her to the attention of Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret, who asked Perriand to join their atelier. There she was put in charge of the furniture and fittings program and worked on such legendary designs as the sculptural "chaise lounge," the "grand confort" chair, and the "fauteuil à dossier basculant" (sling chair).

Her autobiography, "Charlotte Perriand: A Life of Creation"—published in France in 1998—is the first mahor English-language volume on her career and personal history. In addition to her association with Le Corbusier, Perrieand recounts her experiences in Russia, the Far East, and South America; she also discusses the projects she worked on after leaving Le Corbusier's atelier in 1937, ranging from a vast ski resort at Les Arcs to the "espace thé" (tea area) in the UNESCO garden in Paris. Perriand's fascinating memoir is unique not only in its firsthand depiction of the goals and tenets of the heroic period of modern architecture but also in its portrayal of a century of life in Paris.
