baby travel.......2004-05-15

Out of 3 books i bought on how to travel with a baby. This one was the least helpful off the 3. It lacked any real information on equipment and packing etc. I found a relatively new book 'Traveling with a baby' to be a bit more informative.

Common sense in book-form.......2002-09-16

I bought this book hoping it would help me plan a trip to France with my 10 month old----it really helped me with nothing. A lot of common sense "tips" (be sure to always have snacks on hand! bring enough formula/baby food for the flight and a possible delay!), yet I could not find information on car seats, high chairs, outlet covers in hotel rooms, etc. Don't waste your money on this book.

Insight on Ronald Reagan........2007-07-29

This book is well-written and gives a lot of insight on Reagan's campaigns for the presidency.
Mr.Kuhn was involved in those campaigns dating back to the 1970's.
The author covers Ronald Reagan's two terms in the White House very well.
He also details the President's travels and some of the political strategies that came into play with Gorbachev in particular.
If you are a Reagan fan this book is a great read.
I would recommend this book over Peter Wallison's book.Mr.Kuhn was around Ronald Reagan a lot longer and covers a longer time period.

Addictive Author!.......2007-07-23

I loved this book. I almost could not put it down once I started. No spin in this book. No touting conservatism, or bashing liberals. What a remarkable insight into America's finest president.

EXCELLENT REAGAN BOOK.......2007-07-04

I've read many book on Reagan and this is one of the best in showing the man. The author had a jumpseat view of history, and you'll finish the book being slightly envious of him for having one of the coolest possible jobs!

It's clear that Mr. Kuhn has a deep admiration for the Reagans but the book comes off as objective.

One would think that after reading twenty-nine books about Ronald Reagan, his life, his administration, and his family you would know just about everything there is to know about him. Not so. Reagan, like Abraham Lincoln, has so many facets to his life and character that everyone who knew him seems to view him and the events of his life in a somewhat different light. So, with each succeeding book you learn something new about him or at least get a new slant on something you thought you already knew. And that is particularly true of this book.

James Kuhn worked as an advance man in Ohio during Reagan's failed attempt to gain the Republican nomination for president in 1976. He followed that up by serving as an advance man for Reagan throughout the nation as Reagan first won the nomination and then was elected president in 1980. During Reagan's first term, he worked in advance operations for the White House and later, during Reagan's second term, was the president's executive assistant. This brought him into close personal contact with the president on a daily basis. As Kuhn described it; he was "the one constant in a churning sea of faces, issues and policies."

In his unique position Kuhn was able to observe Ronald Reagan as he performed his duties as president of the United States without necessarily becoming part of the action. He was with Reagan constantly but not in a political capacity. Instead, he dealt with the president more on a personal level while traveling with him and being responsible for the details of his schedule, and his various trips and meetings. Over time, Kuhn was able to draw some interesting and insightful conclusions regarding Ronald Reagan's character, his personality, and his effectiveness as a leader and as the leader of the free world. And during Reagan's eight years in office, he was also able to observe the close and loving relationship between Nancy and Ronald Reagan up close and personal.

Jim Kuhn's memoirs, then, are especially valuable, for through them we can see Ronald Reagan as he really was and gain new insight into the people and events of his time in office.

An Easy Read - Too Easy, Too Light.......2004-08-03

As the American polity becomes more divided, people attempt to spin events to their own perception of reality. This book is remarkably and surprisingly free of a political spin. It gives you an insight to a president who effected major changes in America and internationally. However, it is only a small insight; this is a remarkably light book and it must be said, not a well written book. That aside, I do recommend it.

If you want a substantive insight to President Reagan read "The Bully Pulpit" by William Ker Muir, Jr. However, "Ronald Reagan In Private" will give you an insight to the limited advance man's interaction with a presidential candidate and later President. Later we see what an Executive Assistant to the President sees of a President. Given this is a 271-page book and the advance-man portion takes up the first 135 pages, the insight to Reagan the man from the perception of his Executive Assistant is disappointingly sparse. But, it is there and whether you come from the Conservative or Liberal political philosophy, Reagan is an important president and this book will give you a better understanding of that man.

After reading several books on bookbinding, this is one of my favorites that I find myself going back to again and again for both instruction and inspiration. On the craft of bookbinding, the instructions are clear and there are a number of interesting structures to explore. This book also moves into the realm of book artist, with the author explaining how she uses her experiences to develop content for her books.

After making blank books for some time, it's exciting to be inspired to develop books where both form and content work together.

Definitely worth having in your library.

I bought this book because I wanted to learn how to better train my children to grow up to be leaders. As I started reading I quickly found that this book isn't just for parents of children, but for anybody who wants to learn what it means to be a better leader themselves.

Coaching provides example after example of leaders in business, sports and politics and how they learned to develop themselves into leaders. Many of their stories talk about how they became leaders early on in childhood because of mentors, teachers and parents who pushed them to be something great.

Each chapter takes the reader through the leadership process, what it means and how to become and effective leader. Coaching is simultaneously an inspirational book while also providing solid points, tips and strategies in developing oneself (or one's children) into strong leaders. No leadership rock is left unturned or secret uncovered.

The Future In Their Hands.......2005-04-12

This wonderful volume extends the authors knowledge of sports leadership into all walks of life. With many practical applications and plentiful material from myriad sources, this is among my very favorite leadership books.

Don't be fooled into thinking this book is only for making leaders of children. This is just as applicable to subordinates and perhaps even to a floundering but teachable superior. It's highly accesible while remaining concise and never overstating a point.
