In this beautifully illustrated, practical field guide, ecologist and botanist Thomas E. Hemmerly identifies more than 600 species of Ozark flowering plants. Ozark Wildflowers is the only book with full color photographs that covers all flowering plants of the Ozark region, including the Ouachita Mountains and Crowley's Ridge.
Hemmerly's primary focus is herbaceous plants, but he also includes an assortment of trees, shrubs, and woody vines with showy flowers. He conveniently organizes the species descriptions primarily by color and secondarily by the grand group--monocot or dicot--to which they belong. To further assist the reader, Hemmerly has included a glossary, an appendix of Ozark natural areas, a bibliography, and an index.
In addition to serving as an identification guide, Ozark Wildflowers features plants in the context of their environment and the regions where they occur. Hemmerly surveys other plants and animals that form communities with wildflowers and describes the soil, water, climate, and geology that influence Ozark ecology. Great overview of Western Alps Ski Routes.......2007-05-19
Obviously not all can be encompassed within a volume the size of this book, but with the addition of topo maps(and obviously all your hard gear, experience prep, and exercise), i can imagine very little else needed to travel extensively within the areas discribed. It covers routes from as far West as Le Meije, Chamonix, to Verbier,Monte Rosa and Saas Fee eastward. The other volume covers everything East and North of here. For those planning a trip to the area, this book can answer more questions than most guides, hut caretakers, or shops will care to about the basics of any of the given areas. Certainly full of better information than days of messing about on the web will find you. Support these types of books; they are certainly more helpful and life affirming than the most recent political polemic. Plus it has lots of pictures for stoke.

Silk ribbon embroidery utilizes many of the same stitches as more traditional crewel embroidery, but the unique qualities of the ribbon make for a very different look. This beautiful book (conveniently spiral bound to lie flat when working) offers a comprehensive stitch guide and good coverage of all the basics. Each stitch is given a clear diagram, and many also include color photos of a detail featuring that stitch. In addition, Judith Baker Montano presents charming descriptions of what inspired her lovely, elaborate finished pieces, which she calls "free-form stitchery."

I just saw my Aunt Mary's book and had to have a copy! It is loaded with inspiration and makes me so excited to try some of the stitches. I love the simple drawings to show the stitches and the examples are wonderful! I am a mixed media and fabric artist so I loved the ideas and inspiration this little book gave me!
I loved it so much I purchased three more to give to my mom and two friends!

Book Description
This is the first full-length, serious biography of Frederick Temple, an eminent, nineteenth-century figure and father of William Temple who was Archbishop of Canterbury during the Second World War. Born on a Greek island, of middle-class but impoverished parents, he was educated at Balliol College on a scholarship, became principal of a college which trained teachers for pauper children, then headmaster of Rugby, and Bishop successively of Exeter and London before finally becoming Archbishop of Canterbury at the age of 76 in 1897. In the realm of education he could be considered the real designer of the Oxford and Cambridge Examination Board in the 1850s; was a contributor to the first of the `scandalous' volumes of liberal theology, Essays and Reviews in 1860; was secretary of the Taunton Commission on grammar school education in 1868; and gave the Bampton lectures of 1884 on science and religion which made the theory of evolution respectable. As Bishop of London he attempted to mediate in the London dock strike of 1889; was responsible for the final form of the Archbishops' reply to the Pope's encyclical on Anglican orders; presided over the `Archbishops' Headings' on certain ritual practices in the `Church Crisis' at the end of the century; was much involved in Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee celebrations; and crowned Edward VII. He collapsed in the House of Lords after speaking in the debate on the education bill of 1902 and died soon afterwards. To gather the material for this fluent and attractive biography, the author has made use of the Temple family papers, most of which have been hitherto unpublished, as well as the more than 100 volumes of the Archbishop's official papers at Lambeth Palace.

This is a great introduction to investing! Easy to understand and chock-full of information. I would recommend this to anyone who feels they have more to learn about the in's and out's of investing.
Need a Little More.......2003-12-14
Mattive covers the basics of investing for the beginner, but the coverage is too minimal. Even the beginner requires more information than is provided in this new book.
One good point is that he attempts to teach the new investor about options, a topic that is too often omitted in such books. For additional help with conservative uses for options, I recommend The Short Book on Options.
