Product Description
On the demand side, exporters and strategic planners focusing on seaweeds and other algae in Australia face a number of questions. Which countries are supplying seaweeds and other algae to Australia? How important is Australia compared to others in terms of the entire global and regional market? How much do the imports of seaweeds and other algae vary from one country of origin to another in Australia? On the supply side, Australia also exports seaweeds and other algae. Which countries receive the most exports from Australia? How are these exports concentrated across buyers? What is the value of these exports and which countries are the largest buyers? This report was created for strategic planners, international marketing executives and import/export managers who are concerned with the market for seaweeds and other algae in Australia. With the globalization of this market, managers can no longer be contented with a local view. Nor can managers be contented with out-of-date statistics which appear several years after the fact. I have developed a methodology, based on macroeconomic and trade models, to estimate the market for seaweeds and other algae for those countries serving Australia via exports, or supplying from Australia via imports. It does so for the current year based on a variety of key historical indicators and econometric models. In what follows, Chapter 2 begins by summarizing where Australia fits into the world market for imported and exported seaweeds and other algae. The total level of imports and exports on a worldwide basis, and those for Australia in particular, is estimated using a model which aggregates across over 150 key country markets and projects these to the current year. From there, each country represents a percent of the world market. This market is served from a number of competitive countries of origin. Based on both demand- and supply-side dynamics, market shares by country of origin are then calculated across each country market destination. These shares lead to a volume of import and export values for each country and are aggregated to regional and world totals. In doing so, we are able to obtain maximum likelihood estimates of both the value of each market and the share that Australia is likely to receive this year. From these figures, rankings are calculated to allow managers to prioritize Australia compared to other major country markets. In this way, all the figures provided in this report are forecasts that can be combined with internal information sources for strategic planning purposes.

Description:
Caulerpa taxifolia was first discovered in New South Wales, Australia, in April 2000 and is now present in nine waterways. Infestations, which range from sparse distributions of scattered runners to dense beds 40 cm thick, covered approximately 8.1 km^2 by mid 2004. Various methods for controlling the alga were trialed. The application of coarse sea salt at a concentration of 50 kg/m^2 was found to be the most effective method as it rapidly killed the alga, had relatively minor effects on native biota (seagrass and infauna) and was relatively inexpensive. In small-scale trials, frond density of C. taxifolia had decreased by 70-95% one week after salting and no fronds were present after 1 or 6 months. Seagrass and infauna were also affected by salt, but abundances had generally recovered after 6 months. The effectiveness of salting at larger scales depended on the method of application and salting appeared to be most successful in the cooler months when C. taxifolia dies back naturally. Results of large-scale salting trials were mixed. In one waterway, a single application of salt resulted in the apparent removal of almost 5200 m^2 of C. taxifolia; in another, repeated salting of a 3000 m^2 infestation led to a considerable reduction in the density of the alga, but no overall change in the boundaries of the infestation. Eradication of C. taxifolia from New South Wales is unlikely, but local control measures, extensive monitoring and experimentation are continuing in an attempt to limit the impact of this invasive alga.

The best guide we found to the western National Parks.......2002-06-13
We took several guide books with us when we took the Great American Vacation last year, but this was the one we returned to again and again. The sections on each park were big enough to give you plenty of ideas for things to do during a 3-4 day visit, but not so big as to be overwhelming. It has a nice introductory section for each park, a list of hikes of various difficulties, good maps and beautiful pictures. You won't need a separate guide for each park if you have this book.
Book Description
A New Look at Abraham Lincoln, His Agenda, and an Unnecessary War
Most Americans consider Abraham Lincoln to be the greatest president in history. His legend as the Great Emancipator has grown to mythic proportions as hundreds of books, a national holiday, and a monument in Washington, D.C., extol his heroism and martyrdom. But what if most everything you knew about Lincoln were false? What if, instead of an American hero who sought to free the slaves, Lincoln were in fact a calculating politician who waged the bloodiest war in american history in order to build an empire that rivaled Great Britain's? In The Real Lincoln, author Thomas J. DiLorenzo uncovers a side of Lincoln not told in many history books and overshadowed by the immense Lincoln legend.
Through extensive research and meticulous documentation, DiLorenzo portrays the sixteenth president as a man who devoted his political career to revolutionizing the American form of government from one that was very limited in scope and highly decentralized—as the Founding Fathers intended—to a highly centralized, activist state. Standing in his way, however, was the South, with its independent states, its resistance to the national government, and its reliance on unfettered free trade. To accomplish his goals, Lincoln subverted the Constitution, trampled states' rights, and launched a devastating Civil War, whose wounds haunt us still. According to this provacative book, 600,000 American soldiers did not die for the honorable cause of ending slavery but for the dubious agenda of sacrificing the independence of the states to the supremacy of the federal government, which has been tightening its vise grip on our republic to this very day.
You will discover a side of Lincoln that you were probably never taught in school—a side that calls into question the very myths that surround him and helps explain the true origins of a bloody, and perhaps, unnecessary war.
"A devastating critique of America's most famous president."
—
Joseph Sobran, commentator and nationally syndicated columnist
"Today's federal government is considerably at odds with that envisioned by the framers of the Constitution. Thomas J. DiLorenzo gives an account of How this come about in The Real Lincoln."
—
Walter E. Williams, from the foreword
"A peacefully negotiated secession was the best way to handle all the problems facing Americans in 1860. A war of coercion was Lincoln's creation. It sometimes takes a century or more to bring an important historical event into perspective. This study does just that and leaves the reader asking, 'Why didn't we know this before?'"
—
Donald Livingston, professor of philosophy, Emory University
"Professor DiLorenzo has penetrated to the very heart and core of American history with a laser beam of fact and analysis."
—
Clyde Wilson, professor of history, University of South Carolina, and editor, The John C. Calhoun Papers

Read only if you want to learn.......2007-10-03
This book is very detailed and thorough, I don't think you will be let down. If you thought Abe Lincoln freed slaves and loved everyone and was honest as long as his face, you will be in for a big surprise. The author explains THE REAL LINCOLN as someone who was just as racist as almost all the northers. Lincoln never had any plans of freeing slaves but making sure the central government came together. This President issued martial law in many southern states just so he could get his way; this president jailed many editors of newspapers in the NORTH because they were against the civil war; this president lead a war that killed 600,000 men, women, and children.
Dilorenzo from the very beginning of the book explains there were close to a dozen countries that were ending slavery peacefully and even explains that it wouldn't have been worth having slavely since the indistural revolution was starting. Why did Lincoln cause a civil war over something that was ending peacefully everywhere else? Because he wanted to institute the centralized government. If you think all southerns were racists and the only ones, you will learn that many northerns wanted to send all blacks back to Africa.
I think you will be glad to add this book to your library. I know I was. I simply bought this book because I did not know very much about Lincoln but Dilorenzo sure cleared that up.
Enjoy everyone!
The Real Lincoln.......2007-09-04
A real eye opener, should be required reading for every school age child begining in the 6th grade and studied in every high school history class.
We weren't taught this in school.......2007-08-27
Disturbing book. The states had a right to secede from the union. This was accepted at the time. The right of secession is in fact a key to controlling the powers of a central government.
Lincoln entered the war without congressional approval, calling it a "rebellion". He suspended the writ of Habeas Corpus without approval from Congress. The Supreme Court said that this was not constitutional, but Lincoln ignored it. Lincoln then took control of the newspapers, imprisoning without trial on the order of 13,000 people, including many people who voiced opposition to him.
The Northern armies, as is well documented, plundered the southern countryside: destroying homes, killing innocent women and children, killing livestock and burning crops. All this to save the Union.
Lincoln was The Great Centralizer. With him began the American Empire. This was continued after the Civil War with Manifest Destiny and the destruction of the Indian Nations.
We'e all been lied to.................2007-07-23
.....by our teachers, who were lied to by theirs. We were taught that the Civil War was about slavery, and that Abe Lincoln was a secular saint, a man who believed in equality for all, and who saved the greatness of America. These are all lies.
The Civil War has its origins in the founding of America, where two competing systems fought for ascendency. Was America to be Federalist, an organic whole [Washington, Adams, John Marshall]? Or were we to be Democratic, to form a voluntary Compact of free, and independent states[Thomas Jefferson, Patrick Henry, Spencer Roane]? To have one voice, and an iron fist, dealing with foreigners, but an infinity of free voices at home. This is part [only part] of the famous Jefferson/Marshall feud.
In the early 1800's, Henry Clay advanced his American System, which aimed at centralization via a National Bank, protective tariffs, and [government funded] internal improvements. John Marshall was his judicial voice, Spencer Roane the voice of opposition. But, Clay and Marshall were NOT evil men. They loved America, but had ideas differing from those of the founders about how to make it great. Alas, by 1860, The Great Chief Justice and The Great Compromiser were dead.....
...enter Abe, a brilliant apostle of Henry Clay. Lincoln realized that if centralization was to win out, a civil war would be needed to crush the South once and for all. The Civil War was not over slavery; it was a war to insure northern economic domination. Slavery could have been ended at any point by compensated emancipation. It would have ended anyway, made economically untenable by changing times. Yes, slavery was wrong, but it was also stupid, destructive of those who used it.
Lincoln was able to precipitate a civil war, then, for four long years, he trampled the Constitution he was sworn to uphold. Legislators, and journalists, were jailed. War crimes were committed in our own land. A man who, on public record as racist as any Klansman, called for emancipation to keep England and France out of the war.
Up to Appomattox, the right [NOT wisdom] of secession was assumed to be inherent in the Federal Compact known as the Constitution. Earlier overtures at secession [by Northern states] were opposed as unwise, not as illegal.
Abraham Lincoln was one of the most evil men who ever walked the earth. He was quite willing to kill 660,000 Americans in a war over economic theory. This absolutely superb book dares to tell the truth. I may disagree with the author on some points: I do NOT number US Grant with the war criminals; he was a great and decent man. Dr. DiLorenzo gives Abe blame for Hitler's 6,000,000 Jews; that's too strong even for me, but he sure makes a case[whatever his faults, Lincoln was not an anti Semite]. For all this, the murder of Lincoln was a profound tragedy; some of his Congressional followers were far worse, and most were incompetent.
You may disagree with everything I say. You may call me a fool. You may even consider Abe a secular deity. That's OK; we are still Americans. The land of Thomas Jefferson and Patrick Henry still lives. But, you need to read this book; you not only have a right to know the truth, you have an obligation.
LINCOLN THE DESPOT.......2007-06-15
Dilorenzo calls into question the Lincoln legacy, citing a litany of constitutional abuses by Lincoln in his quest for war, his discriminate & mercantile economic policies that belittled and betrayed the ideas behind the American Revolution, and Abe's supremacist beliefs that fly in the face of his "Great Emancipator" label.
This book is for anyone who knew there was more to "Honest" Abe and the motives for the Civil War than what was taught in high school, and wants to discover the ideology and politics of Lincoln that drove him to initiate such a hostile approach to states rights and commandeer the federal government to the point of anointing himself king.
Lincoln worshipers beware - you will either be enlightened or offended, depending on whether or not you have an agenda.
As Dilorenzo exposes, Lincoln's agenda was not in the spirit of freedom and the emancipation of slaves, but rather that of a tyrant hell-bent on imposing his will in order to give birth to a heavy handed, tax happy, anti-capitalist centralized government - state sovereignty be damned.

A great gift for everyone from 0 to 90 years old.......2007-03-08
It has been a surprise to open this book. Just amazing! I believe it is perfect for a baby, for an adult, for everyone, it is a pleasure to go through the colorful pop-up pages and the inserts.
I really love it.
NEW YORK'S CHRISTMAS FINEST.......2007-02-10
WONDERFUL POP UP BOOK COVERING ALL THE GREATEST NEW YORK HAS TO OFFER AT THE HOLIDAYS.
WOULD MAKE A GREAT VIEWING TRADITION AT CHRISTMAS.
Six striking pop-ups, but lackluster text & extras.......2007-01-21
First and most importantly - if you want big, centerpiece pop-ups, this book delivers. "Christmas in New York"'s main attractions don't boast Robert Sabuda-like paper architecture, but they do have bigness and boldness and are the book's greatest strength. You get six scenes (skip ahead if you don't want the surprise spoiled!) - the giant Rockefeller Center Christmas tree before its famous ice rink, a lavish pink marzipan fan to accompany George Balanchine's The Nutcracker, the Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall, the Fifth Avenue shopping district on Christmas Eve, a photo-real Christmas tree bedecked with a flock of angels (impressive and satisfying to unfold), and Times Square on New Year's Eve.
All are brightly illustrated in vivid pastels and paints with, as appropriate, brassiness, cheer, or the soft, detailed charm of traditional children's books. It may be cliche to say, but it really is a joy to open them again and again. The treats don't end there, either - in the back, there's an innovative bit of packaging (which I won't spoil) containing an illustrated gift tag, a paper ornament that unfolds to a miniature of one of the book's pop-ups, and a tiny map of New York with the landmarks mentioned in the book and a snowy skyline on the reverse.
The backbone of the book, then, is solid. When you get to the all the little extras and flavor text, though, it sags. The additional pop-ups tucked in the side flaps and little booklets telling neat trivia stories are, in these deluxe "grown-up" pop-ups, like the crackerjacks you eat after you've rummaged for the toy. They tell you neat new stuff about the big images and engage your mind.
We do have some such bits here, like a section detailing the history and significance of all the massive works of art in Rockefeller Center (did you know one mural had to be replaced due to its depiction of Lenin among humanity's heroes?) or about a toy train in the Botanical Gardens that runs through a miniature New York made entirely of vegetation. An anecdote from John Rockefeller on the origin of the famous Christmas tree in the plaza his grandfather built is much appreciated, as are the sparse but enchanting photos of the Nutcracker ballet and the mention of the unusual role L. Frank Baum had in shaping the modern holiday. Often, though, the text bits read like publicity releases, vapid and mindlessly running down dates and statistics in lieu of something that grips the imagination. We're dutifully walked through the story of the Nutcracker, as if it were brand-new to us; we take time to acclaim the continued productivity of the corporate tenants of Rockefeller Center, where NBC, the author notes approvingly, "continues to create quality television programming". Seldom in a blurb does the author forget to begin by informing us with satisfaction how much we all love a given site or end by telling us how, we are assured, we will continue to love it for years to come.
Guys, you already got me. If I've shelled out $35 for a pop-up book on the subject, I already think New York City is great. Give me something I DON'T know - something that'll make me love it even more.
No extra little pop-ups are hiding in the flaps; beautiful the central works may be, there is a touch of laziness in the production. Some of the images are copied and pasted - both rows of Rockettes, the back buildings in the last pop-up. These're big images, so you do notice. One pop-up is bookended with photos of New York's famously lavish department store window displays, but the author's selection of displays is atypically drab, photographed as if dimmed to a brownish palette. There isn't much motion to the pop-ups - you can pull a tab to make skaters semi-glide, and the Rockettes kick a little bit. The author also cracks a couple "heh, heh, WOMEN, eh, boys?" comments in passing. They're very slight, almost too slight to mention, but - dude. This is a pop-up book. On CHRISTMAS. Leave the agenda at home.
Also frustrating - the text tantalizingly alludes to but never shows a number of intriguing and surely awe-inspiring sights, presumably because the author wants you to come and see them for yourself. (He opens the book with an account of how awed and changed his Midwestern family was by their New York City Christmas visit, and he chats up landmarks as if he's selling them, not spinning yarns for an already-curious audience.) Don't tell me about the three-story-high lit-up snowflake on 57th Street or the laser light show in the roof of Grand Central if I'm not going to SEE them, darn it.
I go on and on about the flaws, but the bottom line - you want nice pop-up tableaux, you've got six of them, well-chosen and -painted. At $35, it is overpriced; I wouldn't pay over $30. It's not in the league of "The New York Pop-up Book", to which it will be inevitably seen as a companion, but it's an enjoyable, if more conventional, addition to your Christmas.
Beautiful NYC at Christmas.......2007-01-21
This book is so spectacular I can't even describe it. Buy it for yourself if you can't think of someone to buy for. People will love it!

Great present.......2007-07-04
One of the most fun books I've seen in a long time. Macys on Parade popup was given to me as a present, I grew up watching the parade on TV and this book brought back great memories. The quality was very good.
Not Worth the $$$.......2007-01-09
If you are a huge fan of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade you will be disappointed. This book is ok and nice but in no way worth the money. The quality of the pop-up is not good. On some of the pages the pop-up function does not work that well and gets stuck in the book. Overall the quality and content of the book are not worth spending the money on.
Get to know more background about the parade.......2003-09-27
Fun book with lost of details about behind the scenes from an insider at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade. Find out about band selection, float planning, balloon construction, clown brigades, balloon handlers, etc. A good book if you are going to the parade or planning to watch it on TV. My favorite pop-ups are the Radio City Music Hall Rockettes (complete with hi-kicking legs!) and the Snoopy balloon suspended between 2 skyscrapers.

Customer Reviews:
What a disappointment!.......2002-08-23
I had such high hopes for this book, but found myself sorely disappointed. Yes, it's a quick read (as one of the other reviews noted) -- that's because there's hardly any information in it! It basically offers the information one could find in just about any issue of just about any mainstream baby or parenting magazine: that children's intelligence is a combination of nature and nurture and that to maximize your child's brain development you should offer them a loving, stimulating environment. ... I find it difficult to imagine that any parent motivated enough to buy this book doesn't already know all that. There seemed to be very little practical advice (certainly almost nothing beyond what one could glean from common sense and a cursory reading of a few elementary magazine articles).
In short, spend your money on something else. Maybe a book to read with your baby...
Great book for all new parents.......2002-02-20
This book is terrific! A very quick read (especially important for new parents!) and full of very valuable information. This book is great because of the clear cut advice and practical, specific suggestions for enriching your child's early development.
Many of the suggestions are simple and easy to do, but will make a big difference in the lives of your children. Written with a respect for children that is often lacking in the way people tend to treat young children. This book is not about pushing your child to get perfect test scores. It shows how raise a child that is happy and secure who will want to pursue knowledge and creativity on their own.
Great Starter Book.......2001-08-17
This book is a quick read and wonderful for getting started on learning how to help your child develop into the best person they can be.
This book deals with the first three years of your child's life. It gives you ideas from playing with your children to sending your child to music classes. It breaks down the types of learning and how best to incorporate all into your child's daily activity. It also helps to break down the activities that are best for you child at certain ages.
I definitely suggest this book for parents beginning guide to the development of a child's learning processes.
This is also a great book for the parent who says they do not have enough time to read anything regarding their new baby. It is a quick read and very educational.
Book Description
Since the 1960s, the artist Bruce Nauman has developed a highly complex and pluralistic oeuvre ranging from discrete sculpture, performance, film, video, and text-based works to elaborate multipart installations incorporating sound, video recording and monitors, and architectural structures. Nauman's work is often interpreted in terms of movements and mediums, including performance, postminimalism, process, and conceptual art, thereby emphasizing its apparent eclecticism. But what is often overlooked is that underlying these seemingly disparate artistic tendencies are conceptual continuities, one of which is an investigation of the nature of language.
Unlike many of his contemporaries, Nauman has refrained from participating in the critical discourse surrounding his own work. He has given relatively few interviews over the course of his career and has little to do with the art press or critical establishment. Indeed, he granted Janet Kraynak and The MIT Press almost complete autonomy in the preparation of this volume. In contrast to Nauman?s reputation for silence, however, from the beginning of his career, the incorporation of language has been a central feature of his art. This collection takes as its starting point the seeming paradox of an artist of so few words who produces an art of so many words.
Please Pay Attention Please contains all of Nauman's major interviews from 1965 to 2001, as well as a comprehensive body of his writings, including instructions and proposal texts, dialogues transcribed from audio-video works, and prose texts written specifically for installation sculptures. Where relevant, the texts are accompanied by illustrations of the artworks for which they were composed. In the critical essay that serves as the book's introduction, the editor investigates Nauman's art in relation to the linguistic turn in art practices of the 1960s?-understanding language through the speech act--and its legacy in contemporary art.
Customer Reviews:
Fabulous insight.......2007-07-03
Please Pay Attention Please offers fabulous insight into the ideas behind Bruce Nauman's art. With its focus on words and language, the interviews in the book help to explain Nauman's relationship with language and its origins, including some of his literary and philosophical interests. Nauman presents his art in a straightforward way, so readers can expect to find some redundancy from interview to interview. I found the book to be invaluable insight into one of America's most brilliant experimental artists.
