      Book Description

Capitol Hill veteran Kenneth Ackerman re-creates an American political landscape where fierce battles for power unfolded against a chivalrous code of honor in a country struggling to emerge from the long shadow of the Civil War. James Garfield’s 1880 dark horse campaign after the longest-ever Republican nominating convention, his victory in the closest-ever popular vote for president, his struggle against bitterly feuding factions once elected, and the public’s response to his assassination is the most dramatic presidential odyssey of the Gilded Age—and among the most momentous in our nation’s history. This journey through political backrooms, dazzling convention floors, and intrigue-filled congressional and White House chambers, reveals the era’s decency and humanity as well as the sharp partisanship that exploded in the pistol shots of assassin Charles Guiteau, the disgruntled patronage-seeker eager to replace the elected Commander-in-Chief with one of his own choosing.

5 out of 5 stars A must read for American History Buffs, Gilded Age.......2007-10-11

I enjoyed this book so much, I sent this letter to the author:
"Dear Mr. Ackerman, I recently read and thoroughly enjoyed your fantastic book, Dark Horse: The Surprise Election and Political Murder of President James A. Garfield. I feel it is worthy of a Pulitzer Prize for History. I found your writing style to be engrossing as, even though I knew much of the history you recounted, I read each page of the book most eagerly. I had just finished Roy Morris' Fraud of the Century and, as much as I enjoyed it, I found your book to be a more compelling tale. Your character development is superb and I love how you tied the thread of the Conkling/Blaine feud of 1866 to events throughout the book. The final weaving together of the tale in Chapter 15 is a beautiful closure to a moving story that, as you accurately captured, impacted and captivated large numbers of Americans. Your research and documentation were extremely thorough and quite logically incorporated into the chronological flow of events. Your footnotes are pure joy for a politics and history buff (like me). I didn't really feel I had finished the book until I read the endnotes, as they added to my deeper understanding and appreciation of the events. Having lived through the Kennedy assassination, the comparisons with Garfield's demise are most intriguing and the distinctions also profound. Both were younger presidents who had won narrow victories to gain the White House. Both were succeeded by vice presidents who were clearly 'ticket balancers.' But Kennedy's assassination has forever been plagued with conspiracy theories, while Garfield's had no doubt as to the assassin. Alas, to pursue this line of thought would invite rambling on my part, but these ideas do cross my mind. I think your book would make a great movie, except for the sad reality that Hollywood would inevitably destroy a great story. Also, most likely, it isn't the kind of story that would capture much interest among our populace, at least in my judgment (keeping in mind the kinds of movies that seem to proliferate theater complexes these days). If only I were wrong about this! Your recapitulations of future developments of each of the prime players in the book (Chapter 15) are tailor made for the closing of a great film. I found particularly touching the telling of Mollie Garfield having married Joe Stanley Brown. Some minor observations, suggestions, and thoughts I have are as follows: - A table of the results of the 1880 Presidential Election and a national map of the results (as I have attached) might have been a good addition to the book. I did thoroughly enjoy your tables of the key convention ballots. (Obviously, my bias as a mathematician and cartographer is showing.) - I am working on a book (well, it is really more of a tutorial) of the History of Partisan Representation in the United States Congress. As you are well aware, the story of the evenly divided 47th Senate, in and of itself, is a fascinating one and your accounting of the battle for control of the Senate is most illuminating. Your description of the tie-breaking (precedent setting) votes of Chester Arthur is great drama. -- In this vein, while you point out that one of Arthur's first actions as President was to call the Senate into special session to choose a President Pro Tempore, you never related who they selected for this position. My research indicates that Thomas F. Bayard (D-DE) served from October 10 to 13, 1881, David Davis (Independent-IL) from October 13, 1881 to March 3, 1883, and George F. Edmunds (R-VT) from March 3 to December 2, 1883. Perhaps with the Senate evenly split, this particular tale was too complex and off the focus of your storyline to include. - Not to nit-pick, but in case your book is ever reprinted, some minor points: -- on page 205, last line of paragraph two, the spelling of 'ungentlemanly' missed the editors gaze, -- on page 234, end of line 15 should probably read 'In fact' instead of 'If fact.' -- the last endnote 'I am a poor hater' should be attributed to page 453. - If space had provided for it, including the White House family portrait on the cover of the book would have been wonderful. Just viewing this photo (in the context of the murder of Garfield and all you shared about his wife and children) truly conveys the personal tragedy that occurred, separate from the great loss to our country. - Indeed, as you note, we do need a solid, contemporary biography of James G. Blaine. Equally, I would welcome one of Chester A. Arthur. While a product of machine politics, as you described him, he showed character, spirit, decency, and integrity that made him attractive. I would enjoy reading more about him. Again, please accept my thanks for your superb work and for sharing this wonderful tale. Sincerely, R. Bruce Telfeyan"
--By the way, he did write me back a substantial note of thanks. As did other reviewers, I subsequently visited the Garfield NHS in Mentor, OH, and his burial site (really a beautiful shrine) in the eastern part or Cleveland, OH.

5 out of 5 stars Well done tale of political intrigue.......2007-03-23

This is a fascinating look at a little known president in American history. It covers the convention that nominated Garfield where he was not even a contender. Garfield was a representative for General Sherman who was against General Grant and James Blaine. This convention was one of the most interesting in our history and shows how the freedom of delegates can result in a compromise that gives a candidate acceptable to many. While none would wholeheartedly jump behind Garfield he was able to take a nomination. The New York crowd who backed Grant was particularly bitter. Roscoe Conkling who is made out to be the great villain in this story provides an interesting foil. Chester Arthur is shown to be a man even more unlikely than Garfield for the presidency and it is telling that after his term is up he is hardly even considered for another. The election process also proves to be interesting showing a time before TV and radio when stump speeches reigned supreme. Garfield's assassin turns out to be one of his campaigners who want a political appointment. He feels that by killing Garfield he will be rewarded with a patronage position. Garfield's election seems to bring about a divide in the country that is already distrustful after the election of Rutherford B. Hays. Ironically it is the death of Garfield and the unlikely ascension of Arthur that will heal the nation. This dark horse unified the country in his death and paved the way for civil service reform. For those who have an interest in the Gilded Age this is a must read. For those who are fascinated by political history they will find this a riveting tale that cannot be put down.

5 out of 5 stars Very Readable History Lesson.......2006-10-27

I read this book desiring a biography of James Garfield. This book failed at being a true biography. What I received instead was an excellent description of a year and a half of American history, starting with the 1880 Republican convention that eventually nominated Garfield to President Chester Arthur's taking office following Garfield's assisination.

This book reads like a novel. It also contains numorous historical nuggets. It is fair to each of the people dealt with. For example, Senator Roscoe Conklin is not very likeable, but it points out he was one of the few to welcome a black senator.

The focus of this book is the division in the Republican party at this time, which was a factor of Garfield's assisination. While there is no effort made on the part of Ackerman to give a warning to us today, one can learn from the intense hatred that existed in this time, and try to avoid the same in our present day.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent look at a near forgotten time.......2006-10-12

Ackerman did a superb job in peeling back many layers of politics that few people understand. While keeping it interesting and easy to read, he informs and educates the reader on a little known/understood time in our history.

      5 out of 5 stars A very informative and well-written book.......2006-04-10

I have for some time been interested in James A. Garfield, one of the most intelligent people to have held the office of President of the United States. He was a distinguished academic (who created an original proof of the Pythagorean Theorem, though that gets no mention in this book), a successful Civil War General, and an equally successful politician. But although this book only covers a period of less than two years, from Garfield's nomination by a Republican convention deadlocked between supporters of Ulysses S. Grant and James G. Blaine to his assassination by a mentally-deranged office-seeker, Charles Guiteau, it told me a lot that I did not know about Garfield and about 1880s-era politics.

The book is rather thick, given the short chronological span that it covers. But it's all fascinating reading; I couldn't put the book down at night when it was time to go to bed. The author does some things that I am very happy about: when he describes something, whether the geography of Washington, D. C. or the inner workings of the U. S. Senate, that was very different in 1880 from now, he gives a good description of the differences, helping the reader understand the context in which things are happening in the book.

His description of the feud between the two factions of the Republican Party -- the U. S. Grant/Roscoe Conkling "Stalwarts" and the Blaine "Half-Breeds," provides a major explanation of the political happenings of that era. And following the political maneuverings between Garfield, once elected President, and Roscoe Conkling (the powerful Senator from New York and leader of New York's Republican Party) gives me a great appreciation for how politically savvy Garfield must have been. He could have been a great President, I believe, if he'd been allowed to live.

Ackerman makes a good case for the thesis that medical malpractice, not Guiteau's gun, was the cause of Garfield's death. His claim that, even with the rudimentary state of medicine in 1881, Garfield would have survived if the doctors had treated him differently, is hard to dispute. This is enough to give one some reason to think.

This is a very good book, and I echo the other reviewers' recommendations.

This first-person account of Alzheimer's ties several powerful stories together. Losing My Mind blends personal history with the fear and pain of developing the disease at the age of 57; it is both a sadly fascinating account of Alzheimer's progression and an attempt for the writer to remember his past before it is gone for good.

While his history is recounted in chronological order, these memories--of his childhood; marriage to his wife, Joyce; their years in writing and politics; his passion for herbs and the growing of a successful business--are interspersed with unrelated musings on everything from his cat's sudden deafness to losing his wallet. Clips from articles on Alzheimer's research are sprinkled around, and statistics like the $174,000 that a patient spends on the disease over a lifetime are sobering. Throughout the book, he clearly speaks of his diagnosis as a "sentence"; the lack of a cure is dwelt on in many sections, and a story about an accidental overdose of his prescriptions is particularly grim.

This is not a book that supplies any "power of positive thinking" messages, but instead shows the daily struggle of a man coming to terms with a terrible disease. Poignant and thoughtful, DeBaggio's life will hold meaning for anyone who has been touched by Alzheimer's. --Jill Lightner

      Book Description

"We are foolish, those of us who think we can escape the traps of aging," writes Tom DeBaggio. "I was one of them, dreaming of a perfect and healthy old age....Now, at fifty-eight, I realize the foolishness of my dreams as I watch my brain self-destruct from Alzheimer's." Losing My Mind is DeBaggio's extraordinary account of his early onset Alzheimer's, a disease that "silently hollows the brain" and slowly "gobbles memory and destroys life." But with DeBaggio's curse came an unexpected blessing: the ability to chart the mechanics and musings of his failing mind.

Whether describing the happy days of his youth or lamenting over the burden his disease has placed upon his loved ones, DeBaggio manages to inspire the reader with his ability to function, to think, and ultimately to survive. By turns an autobiography, a medical history, and a book of meditations, Losing My Mind is a testament to the splendor of memory and a triumphant celebration of the human spirit.

      Download Description

When Tom DeBaggio turned fifty-seven in 1999, he thought he was about to embark on the relaxing golden years of retirement -- time to spend with his family, his friends, the herb garden he had spent decades cultivating and from which he made a living. Then, one winter day, he mentioned to his doctor during a routine exam that he had been stumbling into forgetfulness, making his work difficult. After that fateful visit, and a subsequent battery of tests over several months, DeBaggio joined the legion of twelve million others afflicted with Alzheimer's disease. But under such a curse, DeBaggio was also given one of the greatest gifts: the ability to chart the ups and downs of his own failing mind. Losing My Mind is an extraordinary first-person account of early onset Alzheimer's -- the form of the disease that ravages younger, more alert minds. DeBaggio started writing on the first day of his diagnosis and has continued despite his slipping grasp on one of life's greatest treasures, memory. In an inspiring and detailed account, DeBaggio paints a vivid picture of the splendor of memory and the pain that comes from its loss.

      Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Very helpful for family and caregivers, albeit frightningly honest.......2007-07-16

Mr. DeBaggio is so wonderful to have shared his experiences with diagnosis, physicians, others reactions, and his own struggle to understand and deal with what is happening to him. This book brought a new enlightenment to me, newly dealing with a family diagnosis. It is so easy to forget the person who is actually fighting with the disease when it affects so many in the family. His true account of what his feelings are throughout the months it took to write the book has given me more compassion for my mom and the ability to be angry at the disease as the culprit for all of the cruel things that are happening to all of us while we watch the progression. Thank you, Mr. DeBaggio, for opening my eyes to my mom's struggles.

4 out of 5 stars An Interesting Read.......2007-05-15

For those interested in this subject this book is an engaging and rewarding read. Some may find DeBaggio's anguish a bit excessive, but to me it was a genuine expression of his emotion, not buffered by what is 'proper'.

      5 out of 5 stars A Courageous Work.......2006-04-16

How to describe "Losing My Mind." The author, Thomas DeBaggio wrote it as a person making the lonely journey into the opaque fog of dementia. What courage! Dementia is a disease that knows no boundaries. It is blind to the categories in which we usually place our fellow human beings. It can occur at the age of 55 or 85. It can happen to Blacks, Whites, Hispanics, Asians, Jews, Christians, Muslims, males and females, rich and poor. It has not spared ex-presidents. Dementia did not spare my mother whose tale is told in my own recently published memoir. I recommend "Losing My Mind" to anyone dealing with this terrible disease either by him or herself or in a loved one.

Robert Tell, Author of "DEMENTIA DIARY, A Care Giver's Journal"

      2 out of 5 stars Pronounced negativism.......2006-03-30

I agree with a couple of the other reviewers in that it is hard to condemn this book since the author has an incurable disease. However, I find his endless harping on his mental condition and just how black everything is to take away from the other excellent material in the book - quotes from various other sources about the disease and its ramifications.

He implies that this is the worst disease anyone could ever get. I think of Parkinson's (and Michael J. Fox), being paralyzed (and Christopher Reeve), muscular dystrophy and MS - and how all of those worsen over time. I also think about acceptance and taking action as the two people mentioned above have done. The action I see this author taking is to constantly dwell on his own decline. This is not a book I can recommend to others with the same affliction unless you can use it as a springboard to act in a different manner.

      5 out of 5 stars Terrifying Insight.......2005-07-07

This book recounts the downward decline of the mental state of an Alzheimer's sufferer. At the age of 57, DeBaggio was a successful businessman who ran a plant nursery out of his home. Some annoying problems recalling scientific details of his plants led him to ask his doctor if there might be something wrong with his brain. He consulted with a neurologist who subjected him to a battery of tests, which all pointed to early onset Alzheimer's. In this book, DeBaggio describes his diagnosis, treatment, and losses of mental acuity. One aspect of Alzheimer's is that memories from childhood return with new vividness, so interwoven in this story are the memoirs of DeBaggio's life, from the meeting of his parents to his birth, childhood, and earlier career as a journalist. Juxtaposed with these details are descriptions of his present mental state, his meetings with doctors and struggles with daily tasks, as well as lengthy informative quotations about Alzheimer's research.

The prose floats from one time period to another, repeating itself often with slight variations. But instead of being tedious, this comes across as being an extremely honest portrayal of a person with failing memory who is struggling to communicate. DeBaggio's life story in itself is fascinating and very well-told. The insights the book provides on what it is like to live with Alzheimer's are most informative and riveting.

This is one of the best books I have ever purchased for hand made cards. This book provides you with lots of ideas. Paper Crafts by far is the leader in card making.

I reach for this book first every time I need to make a new card. I also find here inspiration (especially tags) for my scrapbook pages. The ideas are clean and simple and even though I usually prefer a lot more busy and "arty" look (which is why only four stars) I don't have the time to spend hours and hours on every birthday card. The instructions are clear and to the point. The only difficulty I have with this book is to choose which card to make first.

This book is so great that I bought several copies and gave them as gifts. You will not be disappointed. The book is full of great ideas listed by event or holiday so it's easy to find what you're looking for if you're short on time. It's also fun to simply flip through until you find something you like. You can copy exactly the projects, or use the many pictures as a jumping-off point for your creativity. All patterns are included for the more in-depth projects, and each sample also lists tips and additional ideas for variations.

4 out of 5 stars Great compendium of ideas.......2006-11-07

Beginner and seasoned card makers/crafters will all find items in here to spark the imagination and get the creative juices flowing. I am pacing myself and reading it a little at a time. It's organized by theme, though, so if you want to go straight to the Easter or Halloween sections, it's easy to do so. Best of all, it's not strictly about cardmaking; there are a lot of party throwing tips and other fun things to make up (gift baskets, mini albums, table decor, gift tags).
It's definitely a companion piece to PaperCrafts' Tips and Techniques book, which goes into more detail onto how to actually do the stamping/bleaching/cutting techniques often used in paper crafting. I'd say if you had the 2 books and weren't itching to try out some of the ideas and tips they contained, you should pursue a different hobby!

            Book Description

With colorful photographs of more than 400 plants, this comprehensive treatment of the selection and care of seaside plants will be welcomed eagerly by gardeners from Virginia to south Texas.

As more and more of the nation's population moves to waterfront property, and as coastal construction surges, legions of business and residential owners have discovered the challenges of coastal gardening. Plants that might thrive inland often decline and eventually die. Though salinity is the most common and most hostile environmental stress, gardeners also battle poor soil, drought and downpours, high winds, humidity, and heat, not to mention occasionally freezing temperatures.

Robert J. Black and Edward F. Gilman tell gardeners how to conquer these hurdles and establish aesthetic and functional plants that can adapt to a coastal site. Beginning with basic gardening precepts, they present step-by-step information on specific plants, planting, best landscape uses, cultural needs, and plant maintenance. They address watering, fertilization, pruning, and other care concerns of salt tolerant plants.

This guidebook will be indispensable for all southern coastal homeowners, landscape architects, landscape designers and installers, landscape maintenance personnel, retail nursery personnel, extension agents, and for inland gardeners who face problems that result from salt water intrusion. Compact and handy, it will help them plan, plant, and maintain a beautiful seaside landscape.

The Tao of Motherhood is ideal for mothers who long to blend their spirituality into parenting. This collection of brief essays draws upon the ancient teachings of Lao Tzu, reminding mothers of the fundamental truths that prevail when every other piece of parenting advice fails. Because the passages are brief, the book is accessible at any harried moment. It is also applicable to every stage of motherhood--from tending to infants to the mothering of adult children; for example, in the passage on "Paradox," author Vimala McClure writes, "There is nothing more receptive and flowing than water, yet there is nothing better for polishing the stone. A mother's nature is paradox. Your strength is in your gentleness. Your authority is in receptivity. Your power is in letting go."

I received this wonderful book at my baby shower. My son is 3 and a half now and I credit the passages in the book with totally helping me be a much better parent than I ever could have been without it. I highly recommend anyone who might need some uninvasive advice and direction in the parenting department to get this book. It has been on my bedside table for years and whenever I need to I pick it up, read a page and feel much better.

1 out of 5 stars not the tao te ching.......2002-09-13

This may be a fine book for parenting/motherhood, but it is not Lao Tzu's tao te ching. His classic text has broad applications to many areas of life, but the stretch to motherhood is too great.

This beautifully written book has been a comfort to me during the trying times of parenting a young child. Her words are gentle and touch the inner core of who I am trying to be as a good parent. I have found strength when I was at my lowest and yet she reminds me that we are in this world but not of this world. With her guidance I have been able to put aside the demands and comparisons society places on me as a parent and to focus on what truly matters. I have given this book to my friends and I plan on passing it on to others that are looking for a spiritual connection to their children.

5 out of 5 stars Easy read w/ usable solutions to the hard job of parenting!.......1999-11-17

This book was given to me after the birth of my 3rd child over seven years ago. Amazing how much I had to learn about being a parent, and what a patient teacher Vimala can be. Without guilt she enables you to make changes in the type of parenting you've learned and supports you in teaching yourself to parent if you feel unprepared. Written for easy access, as a soon to be mother of five, I always have a moment(that's all it really takes) to reread a passage and regroup my parenting skills.

            5 out of 5 stars A beautiful inspiration for today's busy mothers........1998-12-24

I carried this book in my store "Vortex", in the East Village of NYC in the late 80's. It had a big impact on me as I explored spiritual aspects of birth and parenting. Many books have come in and out of my life since then, but I always remembered the gentle words of quiet wisdom Vimala had to share. I recently had the good fortune of meeting Vimala in person, and immediately remembered this beautiful book. I have 2 copies now: one from my old store that I loan out, and a new copy that my mother gave me a few months before I met Vimala. I loan the first copy out to mothers who are caught up in the frenetic pace of today's busy, stressed - out world. It is a quiet place to retreat to. Thank you Vimala! -Luana

            Book Description

In The Tao of Mom, author Taro Gold shares with us 365 rare and insightful quotations from mother figures around the world, revealing on each page the wisdom, courage, and compassion that define motherhood. Tao is a Chinese word meaning way or path. The Tao of Mom, then, is literally The Way of Mothers. Many of the women celebrated in The Tao of Mom are well-known, while some are not; many hail from the West, yet all impart distinctly Eastern sensibilities. To further enrich our journey into the thoughts of each motherly figure, background details are included about each woman, such as Rosa Parks, mother of the modern civil rights movement; Aung San Suu Kyi, leader of the democratic movement in Myanmar; Maria Montessori, Italian educational reformer; and Abhirupa-Nanda, Indian poet-to name only a few. Lavishly illustrated, this gem of a book is for you to give to the moms in your life, for moms to give to you, for everyone to give to dads (as a loving reminder of how wise moms can be), and of course for you to give to yourself. The Tao of Mom is for everyone in need of a daily dose of motherly wisdom, inspiration, and comfort.

5 out of 5 stars Best book of mothers' wisdom.......2005-01-13

I have a collection of books filled with inspirational quotes from mothers, and this is the best of them all. I give it away at baby showers and for Mother's Day gifts, birthdays, and whenever. I've always thought of myself as a good mom, but I must say this little book has helped me be even better. What a joy and what a surprise to be able to say that about such a small book. The Tao of Mom is worth its weight in diamonds.

Joy can spring like a flower even from the cliffs of despair. ~Anne Morrow Lindbergh

For years, Taro Gold was the recipient of journals given to him by his mother each New Year's Day. From these journals, Taro has selected 365 of his favorite quotations. He also includes biographical notes about each quote contributor.

I was captivated by quotes by Madame Chiang Kai-shek, Sei Shonagon, Patricia Clafford, Rosa Parks, Humishuma and Lady Murasaki Shikibu.

Many of the quotes are exclusive to this collection. Taro has included wise quotes from his mother and wise women in his extended family tree. There are quotes filled with humor and profound quotes filled with wisdom. I especially enjoyed the quotes by Great-Grandma Edi and Taro's Mom. Great Aunt Iko explores the idea of expectation and Aunt Kimiko defines adulthood in a creative way.

Everything you want to become on the outside you must first become on the inside. ~Mom

Taro Gold has spent much of his life living overseas. He has been successful as an author, children's counselor, teacher, interpreter, actor, singer and songwriter. He has traveled to over thirty countries and has lived in Australia, Spain and Japan. He has also written extensively for international Buddhist publications.

Taro Gold's books are well worth collecting and make the perfect gifts for any occasion. They are universal in their appeal and always bring moments of enlightenment to your life. The art and patterned pages also add to this books visual appeal.

I met author Taro Gold in Chicago on his book tour this month and he was as delightful and interesting as his books are. I have enjoyed all of his books but I think this one may be my favorite of all. It is called Tao of Mom but it's really a book for everyone and is probably the most diverse and thought-provoking collection of wisdom I have come across in my life.

            5 out of 5 stars Awesome.......2004-05-01

I love this book and have given it to every mother I know, and some fathers and kids too. Everyone I know who has read it enjoys it. Some of the quotes are profound and thought-provoking, others are funny, some are deeply inspiring. Totally gorgeous inside and out with colorful illustrations that I like to just stop and look at because they are so beautiful. It's priced so low, I think it's the best valued book I've ever bought. Makes it easy to buy a bunch as gifts, which is great because that's what I keep doing.

                Book Description

Albrecht Dürer is the most significant and admired artist of the northern Renaissance. Tracing his work and influence from his earliest career to his powerful posthumous role within German culture, this richly illustrated book surveys all of the artist's best-known prints as well as numerous drawings and watercolors.

The catalogue of a greatly anticipated exhibition of Dürer's work in England--including loans of many precious works rarely seen by the public--the volume features 85 color and 267 black-and-white illustrations. It follows Dürer's career from his first work in the medieval tradition of Martin Schongauer, through his Italian education in the classical tradition, to his sophisticated development of the woodcut and engraving techniques that changed the history of printmaking. The book examines Dürer's long-lived influence, from the obsession of artists and collectors with his work during the late sixteenth century to the iconic status he acquired amid the rise of German nationalism in the nineteenth. It considers how the popularity of his images migrated into a range of materials as diverse as porcelain and banknotes. This assessment of his art and legacy concludes with a contemplation of Dürers famous print, Melancholia, written by the Nobel Prize-winning German novelist Günter Grass, himself a printmaker.

Offering a much-needed fresh look at the work of a major Renaissance artist, this handsome book is certain to deepen the broad international appreciation that Dürer's work already enjoys.
