A great read for an interested reader.......2004-09-03
I lived in Naples from 1991 through 1994 in the days prior the the Internet. I LOVED my stay there and daydream about it even today. I was a single 21 year old male and could not get enough of wandering through the country and meeting its people. For me it was a very important part of my life - not only was I in a foreign country, but also finding myself, finally emerging out of the shadow of my parent's home (a good one). All around me were these people whose langauge I learned so slowly who were all motivated by ideas and goals I could not seem to pin down. In the end I discovered their values and goals were much like mine but how they arrived at them through "The Arrangements" was unlike anything I had even known.
I dearly wish I had then some sort of guide (like this book!) and history to teach me a few things about the people all around me. With my Italian friends I enjoyed long conversations but I found they were most interested in learning about me and my country and discussing current events rather than explaining their culture to me and how their history had influenced their society. I was a celebrity often invited to their homes for meals and family gatherings. I was welcomed morning, noon or night.
"That Fine Italian Hand" took my superficial understanding of the Italian culture and added history and context to it, finally in 2004 answering dozens of questions that had remained unanswered for me.
I was a 21 year old Navy Petty Officer (enlisted) thurst into a foreign land without explaination or choice. Around me were many Americans unhappy about their destination, unwilling to explore the culture and experience the Italian land and the people's generousity. There were some of us though who took this stay as an opportunity that most people never get. It changed me and my friends - for the better. I recognize now that the world is not just an American one, but a world full of people divided by politics and language. I learned the language - or enough of it - but a book like this has helped me with the author's perspective understand everything else much better.
I recommend this book to be one of many you should read if you have a facination with Italy and her peoples. You should definitely read it if you plan to visit Italy. Go there with an open mind. Please don't be the ugly American that I saw in 1993 exiting a very clean and well equipped Pompeii bathroom loudly cussing a refusal to tip the cleaning lady who sat just inside the door. He made us all look bad. Her sign asked for 500 lire - less than 50 cents - for her cleaning services...
I encourage everyone to get out and travel with an open mind, be a good American visitor, study first to arrive with a bit of education to understand and respect your destination, to vote for your government, and if you are a young person without direction or resources to start your adult life, join the military for 4-6 years. You'll come out an adult, with money for college, and some golden experiences. Contact me anytime if you have questions or comments at: busbodger@earthlink.net

Worked like a miracle.......2004-09-10
I bought Stock Market Miracles along with Wall Street Money Machine back in 1997. Using Wade's option strategies I was, as a total beginner, green as green could be turn $250 into $1350 in three weeks on my first play, $400 into $4800 on my second play and $1500 into $7000 (on a 3/1 post stock split play) in 3 days.
As a total novice, I was excited to say the least. Wade Cook and Robert Allen are two of the very best financial coaches today. I also recommend Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki.
Take the naysayer with a grain of salt. This guy obviously has an agenda that does not include helping you.
By the way, I made those gains without using Wade's newest and more advanced strategies disclosed in Wade's newest book Wade Cook's Stock Picking Handbook. I recommend that you go to Wade's website www.wadecook.org.
More powerful strategies from Wade.......2004-07-16
In this sequel to the best selling Wall Street Money Machine, Wade Cook goes even deeper into his revolutionary and new strategies for cash flowing the stock market. There is more information on stock splits, options, rolling stocks, buying and selling calls and puts, tandem plays and so much more. This book makes a great companion to Wall Street Money Machine.
Miracles do happen!.......2004-07-11
Following the strategies in this great book by Wade Cook, I have made 20% returns since 1997 and I still made money even during the Clinton Bear Market.
Most of Wade's strategies are bear market in nature anyway. They are as safe as safe can be when trading in the stock market. Big upside. Little downside. Great book.
Great addition to Wall Street Money Machine.......2004-07-09
I bought this book along with Wall Street Money Machine back in July 1998 during yet another "Clinton Bear Market" I was amazed to see that I could make money even during a down market. Highly recommend Stock Market Miracles and Wall Street Money Mchine (now known as Wall Street Money Machine Vol I & II.
Powerful returns playing stock splits.......2004-07-01
Following WADE COOK's advice in this and his classic WALL STREET MONEY MACHINE, I bought options on YHOO prior to their last split and nearly doubled my money in one day.
Stock splits are predictable, safe and easy way to make money quickly...as long as you follow the advice and precautions that Wade teaches. Many will remember that stocks like Compaq, split and never came back up again. In fact, dropped by 300% after splitting. But Wade warned us about Compaq and other stocks like Compaq that should have been avoided.
Following WADE'S advice has enabled me to quit my full time job, stay home with my children and make a nice living.
Thanks WADE!

Book Description
Candi Jensen, whose adorable designs were featured in Candy Tots and Candy Blankies, is back with something special for babies. From a too-cute denim-inspired jacket and a delicate wrap cardigan to whimsical South-American poncho and faux-shearling hat and booties, this stylish collection of designs will fit the younger set just fine. Beautiful full-color photographs and basic instructions accompany each project, but don’t be afraid to experiment with different yarns and colors. Warm baby up in a Pastel Parfait hat and vest set, inspired by vintage fashions; dress an All-American Girl in a red-white-and blue tank top and matching shorts; and put a little princess in the pink with a pint-sized cardigan. A complete list of yarn resources is provided in the back. The author lives in Oakland, CA.

Candy Babies crochet book.......2007-09-26
Absolutely adorable patterns in this book! The yarn they recommend you use can be a little pricey, but it can be subsituted with other yarns.
Easy and uncomplicated patterns.......2007-01-12
This book has a nice variety of crochet patterns, updated, in style for babies. The instructions are clear and any one who can crochet can create one of the delightful pieces in the book. The pictures are a must see, and the authors choice in yarns is very tasteful. I made a pair of the Ugg Booties and was thrilled with the outcome.
Was she in the dark when she picked the colors?.......2006-07-31
I know, I know...to each his/her own. but I'd really like to buy Ms Jensen a color wheel for Christmas.
There are some cute designs in here, but quite a few left me cold. That may have just been because of the really strange color combos Ms Jensen selected.
There are also a few designs that will require additional sewing to complete, which did not make me too happy either. If I wanted to sew baby outfits, I'd buy a sewing book.
For the few cute designs that are included, I'd save my money and look for the book at the library or Half Price Books, etc.
Single Crochet.......2006-05-10
The color suggestions are nice, and the babies are adorable. But it's mostly single crochet with little pattern variation. If you can adapt patterns, it makes a good reference book, as all the schematics are included.
Perhaps I'm spoiled, as I have a Jack Frost original book... that I use to adapt to the new yarns.
As I love the author's other book, Candy Tots, I have to admit I was somewhat disappointed with this one.
Wonderful, easy-to-crochet clothing for babies.......2005-12-27
I have to say that the baby on the front cover sold this book to me. How can you resist those eyes? And I'm glad because if I hadn't bought it -- I'm a knitter, not a crocheter -- I'd have missed out on some wonderful, adorable baby clothes. My niece is due any day now, and I've been whipping up ponchos and silly hats, and booties like a mad person. These patterns are remarkably easy, and have a kind of goofy charm that just works with babies.
If you have a baby to make clothes for and you're handy with yarn at all, even if you're not big on crochet, I suggest you take a look at this book. You can't fail to create memorable clothing items in almost no time at all with these patterns.

Lovely, Natural Christmas Decorations.......2004-11-22
I've used this book over and over to decorate my home at Christmas with Southern style arrangements. Demonstrating these techniques for garden clubs and at libraries, I always found a ready audience for this and it was really easy. I learned it all from this book.
The supplies are easy to gather (pinecones, apples, oranges, holly, greenery, wire, ribbon, etc.). The results are spectacular. Your arrangements will look very professional!
Each page shows four or more drawings showing the steps for attaching the pieces to make a different decoration. It shows various wreaths, table decorations, swags, roping, corner accents for doors, mantel decorations and an herb kissing ball.
If you ever visited Williamsburg at Christmas, you will want to recreate these beautiful arrangements in your home. This website gives you an idea of the variety you can create:

Excellent presentation and accompanying text........1999-07-23
I have seen this book at the publisher's and it is outstanding. The photographs are exceptional and the descriptions well composed and pertinent. You have, however, left out the name of the CO-AUTHOR, Mary Miley Theobald. I hope you will correct this as both professionals worked long and hard to assemble the edition.

Not impressive steps........2006-07-13
I found this book very disappointing. The step by step instructions are very sketchy leaving you to look at the photography and try to duplicate it. The diagrams seem to leave off after step one or two leaving beginners to flounder along and hope. The photographs are very good and clear so at least they are easy to use as a checkpoint in your designs.
There is very little variety in the designs of this book. She is very keep on balls and topiary trees that look like balls on sticks and mass round designs. If this is what you like fine, but if you are hoping for some variety you won't get it here.

Book Description
Using a lively array of anthropological and sociological sources, The Vital Touch presents a provocative examination of the reasons why, now more than ever, we need to make consistent physical connections with our infants and children.

Great seller to work with. Sent item promptly and in the condition it was described to be in.
Independent mom.......2007-05-24
This book makes a fabulous point on how we need to be closer to our children, however, the rosy picture the author paints of other cultures is not accurate. East Indian mothers I know are exhaustd. Yes they recieve help from their own mothers for one month but after that they return to their husbands home where in many cases its a joint household. The daughter-in-law is on the bottom of the pecking order and her needs come last. Her child is taken care of by her in-laws, and usually is allowed to do anything he/she wants. The mother is not allowed to discipline the child. In fact, the mother is dependent on everyone else in the household and does not have the freedom to make decisions on her own. Many mothers I have met are incredibly unhappy in this situation. America is not all that bad. We are able to decide to touch our child more if we wish, which may not be the case in many other cultures.
Just one word : WOW!!!.......2003-04-16
This is an AWESOME book! I bought this due to subject, and reviews. Keep in mind I LOVED my social anthro. class in college! LOL! But seriously, it reinforces our "attachment" choices, but not based on someones opinions, but based on evidence based research! It shows our culture verses more contact oriented cultures. We are suffering. Or, actually, our children are! I love Dr. Sears, but this, well, this is exactly the reinforcement I needed. I read so many "co-sleeping CAUSES problems" or you NEED to start a loose schedule, or your children will not be well adjusted", that they were clouding my decisions-making me doubt my choices. But OK, here is a concept, we ARE animals. And yes, many moms have jobs, but that doesn't mean you can't make better choices that will benefit the child. Time for America to stop thinking in the vein "oh, if you hold that baby too much, you'll spoil it". Uhm, DUH! You'll feel better if you need reinforcement for current "contact parenting" and you will get some solid knowledge about how you are attached to your child can affect it socially, emotionally and physiologically. This, I think is a MUST read for anyone wanting some true knowledge about the basics in the way we conect with our children.
My favorite parenting book!.......2002-02-18
I am a psychologist, specializing in work with children and families. I'm currently not working, because I'm staying at home with my two daugthers. I have read countless books on the subject of babies, children, families, etc., and have found this book to be the most incredible I've ever read. I truly believe this book will make a difference in your life, and the lives of your children. It's worth every penny, and then some.

Book Description
Swedish glass sculptor Bertil Vallien's most recent body of work, Somna Vakna (Sleeping/Waking), is the culmination of a 30-year career that has remarkably close ties to American art. This first book-length study to be readily available in the U.S. sets the art of Bertil Vallien in the context of both American art of the 1960s and postwar European existentialist/humanist cultural and artistic strains.
Matthew Kangas examines how the artist's cast-glass abstract and representational forms alternately epitomize and transcend their original cultural context of production, the Swedish glass factory Kosta Boda, where Vallien has worked since 1969. Lavishly illustrated and beautifully designed, this book is a must for contemporary glass collectors and others who follow Scandinavian art, figurative sculpture, and new approaches to traditional materials and processes.
