Customer Reviews:
helpful, but, beware of all the others's with the same guide.......2003-12-05
The book was very helpful to define our Itinerary, however, we kept on bumping into the same people over and over because they had the same guide. I guess it is very popular because it is good. The only thing is, when you are abroad you don't want to be cooped up with people from where you came from. Also, it was hard to find good places to eat using the guide. There are also mistakes in the maps and street address, watch out when taking taxis to double check locations!

Book Description
While working alone on his parent's farm one January morning in 1992, eighteen year old John Thompson became entangled in a piece of machinery. In an instant, both arms were ripped from his body and he was knocked unconscious. Not knowing if he would survive his injuries, John get off the ground, staggered over 100 yards to the house, and opened a door with his mouth. Once in the house he grasped a pen in his teeth to punch numbers on the phone and call for help. He then went to the bathroom, climbed in the bathtub so he wouldn't bleed on his mother's new carpets, and waited for help to arrive.

A True Hero!.......2002-11-30
Being from the midwest I had heard about John Thompson.
Well really who did not hear about this awful accident.
I had no idea he had written a book, until I went to
the gift shop at North Memorial and had been a patient
there. Right on the counter was his book. Bought it,
read it in 2 days. It is hard to take at times as he
mentions the operations etc. You relize what he went
through beyond the spotlights. And it was not nice at
times, but he held on. What was so sad when his dog
died, Tuffy was the one who licked his face when his
arms were torn off and awoke him. Tuffy was his hero.
John is a hero and will always be a hero in my heart. Also
he had signed the book!
I learned about courage.......2002-02-02
For a period of a few months ten years ago, just about everyone knew who John Thompson was - his accident was front page news. His book relates not only how he coped with the loss and subsequent reattachment of his arms, but also how he dealt with the publicity that followed and how he came to terms with having his life changed forever.
Exceptional Story, Exceptionally Written.......2002-01-21
John and Paula collaborated to bring this compelling story to print. Makes you appreciate all that you have and realize that there really are still hero's in our chaotic world.
A Touching Story.......2002-01-18
I was living far from North Dakota when the news about John Thompson's accident became national news ten years ago. Like many, I was struck by John's courage and the inspiration it brought to all who heard it. Many of us wonder how we would deal with a traumatic accident like this to ourselves or to a loved one. John Thompson's book honestly tells us the story behind the headlines and how he has struggled to overcome both the physical and emotional challenges this accident brought him. As difficult as this must have been for him to write, he has given a gift to anyone who has survived a similar ordeal. His story is a must-read. Once I started, I couldn't put the book down!
This one you don't want to miss!!!!!!!!!!!.......2001-11-29
Normally this is something I wouldn't pick up and read it's not my thing. But I did pick it up out of curiosity and read a page or two out of the midsection. That made me go back to the beginning and read it in total from the beginning. It's great! Well written and a very compelling story. Pick it up you won't regret it.

Book Description
Intended for the individual whose sleeping and waking dreams revolve around horses or the individual who so desperately wants to count himself among the ranks of horse owners, Janet E. Dzurnak's "So, You Really Want a Horse!" is a no-nonsense book about the pain and pleasures of owning one of these magnificent animals. This informative volum encompasses a wide variety of topics, including leasing versus owning, care, feeding, when and why to call a veterinarian, and even riding etiquette and potential riding hazards.
Passionate yet practical, Dzurnak is forthright and open, detailing the necessity for commitment and hard work, as well as the heartaches and disappointments of making a horse a part of one's life. Peppered with anecdotes about Dzurnak's own horse adventures - both on horseback and off - "So, You Really Want a Horse!" tackles all the brass tacks of horse ownership: from choosing the right horse to having an animal put down.
Dzurnak engagingly offers straightforward advice to the novice horse fancier, sharing all the joy, grief, and fun of owning, caring for, and committing to that special companion.

Wonderful book for the beginning horse person........1999-05-06
I have known this woman for 30 years and have kept my horse in her care. This book is genuinly helpful, thoughtful and very well written. I personally know so much of what is written in the book to be true. It is easy to read, easy to understand and highly informative. It tells it like it is and makes you think. The information is down-to-earth, point blank and truthful. I highly recommend this book for anyone who is toying with the idea of owning a horse. A must to read.
Excellent book, well writen, Author is very informed........1999-04-17
I have read this book and find it to be very informative. The author tells it like it should be told. This book is a must for anyone wanting to buy a horse for the first time
Excellent, Down to earth, Tells it like it should be told........1999-04-17
This book was very informative. The author was very knowledgeable. Anyone wanting to buy a horse for the first time should put this book on their must read list. The author semms to speak with many years of experience.
Good writing! Very helpful to read before buying a horse!!.......1999-03-22
This book was light reading and an enjoyable look at buying, caring for and owning a horse. So often people get animals and do not know what they are in for in the future of that animal's life. The book helped my husband and I to make our decision about horse ownership. Check it out!

Not as thrilled as I had hoped.......2007-04-02
Since I do mainly jewelry, this book for me was not what I was looking for.. It does contain a lot of good information, fusing times, tools and projects.
Pluses is that the photos are in color.
Good book if you want to do larger type pieces and slumping.
Don't Waste Your Money.......2007-03-29
This book was a waste of my money. I was looking forward to getting this and I was VERY disappointed. I'm new to glass fusing and I was hoping to have a good reference and some pictures showing the placement of the fiber paper to make a channel in my fused pendants for stringing the chain, buna, etc. There was no such thing here. In fact, there are only a couple of pages that actually talk about fusing, the rest are wire working techniques, which I already know how to do!!
If you don't yet have a grinder with various bits and a ring saw, you will only be able to do two of the projects, a ring and a bracelet. Since I'm just starting out with the kiln, I don't have either of those pieces of equipment yet.
The first 25 out of this 77 page book is just very general information about glass, equipment and kilns. You can get that info at any good glass related web site. There are 20 pages with only pictures, all of the author's jewelry creations. This is more of a brag book than an instructional guide.
If you want inspiration or just want to look at "pretty pictures" go to the many on-line artists' wonderful web sites and enjoy their beautiful and varied creations. Save your money to buy more glass or get this book, which you can use for years as you increase your kiln working skills:Contemporary Warm Glass: A Guide to Fusing, Slumping & Kiln-Forming Techniques
Innovative Adornments: An Introduction to Fused Glass and Wire Jewelry.......2007-02-08
Love this book. Great ideas with excellent instructions.
Certainly a good inspirational book for any jewelry artist.
Mother-Daughter Jewelry Team.......2007-01-23
Got this for my mom for Christmas since we just got our kiln, but have no real teacher. She loved it--she had been looking for different things to do with dichroic and fused glass instead of just pendants. We're looking forward to trying out our kiln this January.
Not for beginners.......2005-12-22
I feel like I wasted my money on this book. Although some of her projects are interesting, her explanation of the fusing process in general was skimpy, and of no help to beginners at all. For example, how long SHOULD one leave glass for a cabachon in the kiln? She gives average temperatures, but no times for actual fusing. 10 minutes? 2 hours? The beginner is left standing there holding pieces of cut glass and staring at her kiln, having no idea what she should do next. And as for advancing to the wire wrapping and cutting, no way... There are much better books out there, and I wish Ms. Persico would return my money on this one.

House & Garden
The book is sprinkled with garden plans, recipes (for an Egyptian condiment called Dukkah and a geranium-leaf sorbet), and ideas for achieving what the designer calls humble elegance. Or, better yet, pastoral panache.
Customer Reviews:
Living by Design - an Apt Title.......2002-04-27
John Stefanidis does live by design; and with purpose and clarity he also designed his home and gardens, with wonderful results. He used his own textile designs to good use throughout the home, which is indicative of a man who knows his own mind when it comes to design. The results of the transformation of old stables into a comfortable home are spectacularly simple, by design, making the home a most usable, gracious, and gentle environment for him. There are also numerous design elements which any would be designer/decorator could use to good advantage in their own homes.
Yes, but..........2002-01-29
The other reviewer of this book gave it five stars, calling it "intelligent and top of the line." Yes, it is a beautifully photographed book, and Stefandis is one of the great decorators of our era. But I was looking for a book that would help me decorate and design my new house, bought in 2002. And, alas, "Living by Design" is already dated. It was published in 1997 but was photographed earlier, AND IT SHOWS.
Sophisticated; top-of-the-line; intelligent.......1999-08-19
Not your ordinary coffee-table book; an essential guide for anyone interested in a house and garden that is original, witty, mindful of place and time. The photographs are unusually good and the text compelling --- it makes the good life seem accessible and within one's means of both pocketbook and imagination.

Love it!.......2007-09-08
I have been searching for months for the right baby book and my mother and I found this one. It has everything that you could dream of from all of the firsts to the little things that we sumtimes forget. It has a great binding and is great for a boy or girl. My cusion is getting ready to have her first child also and I plan on this being the book I get for her. The only draw back is that it doesn't have a lot of room to write about the 2nd- 5th birthday but I plan on creating a scrap book to go with it so if you want to be able to add more about those birthdays try to be creative.
THE baby book of all baby recording books!.......2007-04-26
I had this book for my son and bought one for my second son this year. It's such a perfect size and contains the right amount of recording pages from year one through school grades. You can't go wrong with Susan Branch ~ her artwork is so charming.
An amazing keepsake.......2006-07-05
This is an amazing keepsake book. When I first read through this book I was so moved and touched by the kind, gentle words and poems. This book is so warming and beautiful I recommend it to everyone who's looking for an amazing memory album. It's just wonderful. The words and illustrations are light in color but meaningful and to the point. I am sorry I couldn't get one for my other two children.
I Have One For Each Of My Six Kids.......2006-06-27
My mother gave me a copy of this book for my first child born in 1994. I am a little picky about things such as baby books and I loved this one. The illustrations are darling. The pages have little quotes and drawings in the corners. The author gives some pages with specific things to write about and many empty pages for whatever you want. I have just received my sixth copy for my last child. I love this book. I still pull out my now twelve year old's book and read it. It has congratulation cards, birthday cards, his first teeth, locks of hair, his birth announcement, and those of his siblings stuck into it,- yet there is still a little space to write a little something more.
You will enjoy filling this wonderful book for your bundle of joy!.......2005-11-08
i bought this book for my baby boy and i've got to tell you all, you will not regret buying it. from the very first day you found out you were pregnant, to the time he moves inside your tummy, to the day he/she gets born, info. about their weight length through different stages to teething, favorite food, foot and hand prints..etc. no kidding, YOU'LL love this book. i've bought also "winnie the pooh keepsake book", wasn't as good as this one though. it's the best so far :)

Book Description
Over a period of four decades--from the early 1960s until his death in 1994--artist, writer, and designer Joe Brainard contributed greatly to the arts in a number of media. From his early paintings and assemblages, which built upon the work of Jasper Johns and Joseph Cornell, to his set designs for LeRoi Jone's The Dutchman and Frank O'Hara's The General Returns from One Place to Another; from his comic book collaborations with various poets, C Comics and C Comics 2, to his later drawing, collage, painting, and assemblage work, Brainard exemplified the link between avant-garde art, writing, and theater that defined the New York School. In addition to a checklist and bibliographies of work by and about Brainard, this exhibition catalogue includes the artist's published and unpublished writings, as well as interviews and letters. Also included are essays by John Ashbery, Carter Ratcliff, and Constance Lewallen, who chronicles Joe Brainard's formative years in Oklahoma and move to New York City, his involvement with Pop Art, assemblage and painting, and his literary and artistic associations.
Customer Reviews:
Oh Joe!.......2002-01-25
I first learned about the artist Joe Brainard in two articles published in Art In America in July 1997, written by Edmund White and by Carter Ratcliff. I saved those features and came across them recently. Sharing my renewed enthusiasm for this artist with a friend, he informed me that he had seen a wonderful retrospective of Joe Brainard at the Berkeley Art Museum last year and that he had purchased a fine catalogue of the exhibit. I was delighted to find this incredible catalogue at Amazon.com. A tremendous overview of this underappreciated genius with relevant text and fantastic color reproductions of exhibited work. Amazing to see work created 20-30 years ago that has so obviously influenced a generation of contemporary artists. This book is highly recommended to anyone interested in contemporary art. If you don't know the work of Joe Brainard, this retrospective will impress, and if you are already an admirer of this extraordinary talent, this is a must have for your art library.
