We did six walks from the book. All of them were shortened versions of the original longer walk.
The book is extremely helpful on arranging the logistics of how to reach the stating point and returning from a walk.
Most walks are very clear and precise, but sometimes the times are not accurate so one should walk carefully and pay attention.
To summarize, if you want a taste of the natural splendor of Peleponnese, this book is a must. (Walks 23 is very confusing so one should start early and have patience for the "barely-used trail through bush hillsides")

      Book Description

During the Civil War, few outside Abraham Lincoln's immediate circle of family, friends, and advisors had as much access to the president as young California journalist Noah Brooks, who first met Lincoln in Illinois. As the Washington correspondent for the Sacramento Daily Union during the Civil War, Brooks met with Lincoln nearly daily between 1862 and 1865 and was privy to many of the president's decisions and thoughts. Brooks's dispatches, letters, and personal reminiscences -- collected here for the first time by noted Lincoln scholar Michael Burlingame -- offer an intimate portrait of Abraham Lincoln himself as well as an engrossing account of life and politics in wartime Washington.

      Book Description

A boy born without arms or legs tells his own amazing story!

Oto came home from school one day and told his parents he had signed up to play basketball. Most parents would be delighted; his were shocked. After all, Oto was born with no arms and no legs. But as this extraordinary young man has proven again and again, hard work, humor, versatility, and an
upbeat approach to life are as valuable as limbs. No One's Perfect is his true account of how he slam-dunked one challenge after another, including basketball.

In a style purposefully meant to reach all ages, Oto writes about his unique childhood in Japan, a country that traditionally has shielded the disabled from the public eye. But hide Oto? Try hiding the sun! From his earliest days, he brought such a winning optimism into the crowds around him-curious
kindergartners, skeptical members of the public school board, gaping passersby-that it was hard to resist him.

Now, as a young adult, Oto has taken on the work of establishing a "barrier-free" environment for others, in the government, in the media, in the eyes of all he meets. His book has sold over four million copies in Japan, where he has utterly changed the way people view the disabled.

Unsentimental and understated (you know the day-to-day routine can't have been as easy as he makes it sound), Oto's message nonetheless hits the heart. And though you need bravery and constant energy to overcome disabilities, you also need the understanding of those around you. Strong parents and
unconventional teachers bucked the rigid status quo to give Oto a chance at a normal life, and he took it from there. Running races, learning to swim, even getting into fights, he made his classmates feel "He's one of us," so they were willing to join forces with him to help break down the barriers
      he faced.

5 out of 5 stars Stupid thing for English.......2004-04-03

No One's Perfect a book about Hirotada Ototake the man with no arms or legs. It takes place in Japan where Oto grows up and deals with the trials and tribulations of life. As kid without a disability most people don't see the reality of the hardships for the disabled or elderly. In this book you follow a young man as he grows up and faces these trials. The book shows us that everyone can do something if we just give it a try.
Imagine what it is like to be two or three feet tall in elementary school with stubs for arms and legs and having your teacher tell you, you are going to learn how to swim. To use at first we think no problem but that's because we don't think of the disability, and for him it was hard. But through it all he still tried his hardest and never gave up. Through out the book he faces many obstacles like this, and he faces them and never gave up.
The story teaches us more then to never give up. It also shows that we all have potential for something, and if we all work together we can reach it. It also shows that the reason people are called disabled is because the way things in society are set up. If people would just take 5 extra minutes to think of ways to set things up to help disabled people they wouldn't be disabled. This many-themed book deals with lots of issues that need to be addressed.
This book is written in an excellent way that captures the hearts of readers of all ages. The language is simple enough for younger people, but complete complex and complete enough to keep adults' attention as well. This all works because he writes in a way that every one can understand and relate to. He does this by putting things in the view of a younger person relay. As you read it you don't think hey some adult wrote this you think that it is written by some one your own age no matter how old you are. Along with being able to get through to younger generations he is able to reach out and touch the lives of adults at the same time.
One thing that didn't work, however, was the way he sometimes jumped around in time. This does not work because he doesn't give enough detail to figure out at what time every thing is happening. But also at the same time he never seems to lose the attention of the reader, through laughter and what he is trying to get through peoples heads.
This book is wonderful for all ages and types of readers. It's full of humor, sadness, pride, hope, love and the want to make your own life better. Along with all the emotions you get to feel, you also get the chance to see some of the issues that some people face every day. Reading this book you begin to realize that life isn't as bad as you had thought it was. After all if this great person could make the best of his life and be happy with out arms, legs or the opportunities of normal people then I think that you can make your own life better. I recommend this book to any one who has a caring heart of the thirst for a wonderful and emotional experience. I also challenge you all to try and do some thing that will help you reach your potential or help make life a little easier for some one you know that cant always do for them selves. Thank you.

      5 out of 5 stars A Spiritual Lift.......2002-05-05

      A Spiritual Lift

This is an autobiography of a great soul.

The author Oto (Hirotada Ototake) was born without arms and legs( a disease called tetra-amelia). Thanks to his great parents who didn't grieve over his disability, Oto was brought up in a way no different from the able-bodied kids(I bet you are interested in knowing how).In addition, through his experience of being often denied the school opportunities under an explanation that the school didn't have full facilities for wheelchair users, he developed his unique viewpoint - able-bodied people cannot cater to social welfare for the disabled from a more thoughtful perspective than the disabled people themselves. Motivated by this idea, he became actively involved in a campaign for a "barrier-free"society( namely, to make public facilities accessible to those in a wheelchair) as an undergraduate at Japan's prestigious Waseda University.

Enormously amazed by the reassuring tone of Oto, I sailored into a chain of touching stories. A particularly contagious one,to me,was about fashion shopping. Oto is a fashion lover and wouldn't miss any chance to shop on sale at a favorite store. On Jan 15,1998, he took the risk of travelling in a blizzard for a sale starting that day. His rationale was,"I wish that people with disabilities would take more pleasure in the way we dress, both to change society's image of us,and to give a lift to our own lives." Oto,thank you,I did get a lift here.

Ten pictures of Oto can be found in this book.In most of them,Oto smiles so shiningly, which seems to be proving his words" Even with a disability, I am enjoying every single day. No one's perfect."

Another person I must mention is the translator Gerry Harcourt, winner of the 1990 Wheatland Translation Prize. Without his efforts,I couldn't have had so much enjoyment in this book.

      4 out of 5 stars Inspiring story.......2001-05-03

One of the main points of the book is that it really shouldn't matter whether or not someone is disabled. That said, being disabled gave Hirotada Ototake many challenges and opportunities which are uncommon. You can imagine the challenges, but what really struck me was how the author took advantage of his opportunities, working hard to get into excellent schools and taking on leadership roles throughout his life... and he's only 4 years older than I am! It seems like an awful lot to accomplish in such a short time.

The best part of this book, however, is not the story or the accomplishments, but the attitude. It's very difficult to read this book without being inspired. When I was younger, I read "Anne of Green Gables" whenever I wanted to remind myself that hard work and dedication can make all sorts of things possible. "No One's Perfect" has the same message and the same kind of inspiration.

The only reason I gave this book 4 stars instead of 5 was that, like some other reviewers, I was hoping for more emotional insight. In some ways, the story is a little too abstract, and I'd like to know how the author FELT, since I know that most of the time, my situation cannot be completely expressed in logical thoughts alone.

      Great book!

2 out of 5 stars I Was Hoping for a much better Literary Piece of Work..........2001-04-04

I was curious as to what was going on in the mind of this person. Unfortunately, you don't get into the underlying PERSONAL feelings, emotions and thoughts of the main character/author. The title really caught my eye (No One's Perfect) and I thought it would explore more facets of human imperfection. While you initially feel sorry for Oto just from seeing the photo on the cover of the book...by the end, you come to visualize him as a real and regular person. I found the book to be a more of a scrap together simplistic journal of his life so far. I suppose I have never discriminated against the disabled as it's obvious they've lacked something through life. Each individual finds their own way and it's clear that Oto points out how we must value ourselves more & enjoy every single day no matter what. This book is ideal for a little inspiration for any one (at any age) because it is easy to read & helps one examine 'What one should do to make a difference in improving their life'.

4 out of 5 stars Limitation and Help.......2000-10-24

As a Chinese, I can't read the Japanese version, so I can't rate the writing technique of this book. But, base on the Taiwan vesion, I think that the book tell me "a lucky person need many persons to help and support". From the book, I find that, every person will have their limitation, base on the different limitation, we could pick our positive life style and just for these different limitation, we should help others.

3 out of 5 stars Very nice - nearly 4 stars but --.......2006-09-27

What I loved about this book: it involves characters of Spanish descent and it's set in New Mexico; the hero Tomas has a warm & loving family (& so does the heroine Erika) and that there are legitimate reasons for the hero & the heroine not to immediately fall into bed or in love with each other. He's a single father with a teenage daughter he's trying to do right by, and she's got a career that she really cares about. The teenage daughter is a very realistic character; her little breakdown with Erika while looking for formal dresses was very true & really caught my sympathy.

But what I didn't quite love about this book was that the author kept the couple apart for too long after they finally admitted their attraction to each other and made love. I felt that this was kind of a writer's attempt to make book longer -- that in "real life", after such an experience and with the feelings they now had for each other, Erika and Tomas would have worked out their problems and finally gotten together much sooner.

Still, it's a good romance, and I recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars One Perfect Man.......2005-02-04

      Back cover reads:
      THE PERFECT NIGHT...
Single-minded events planner Erica Goncalves was stuck on maintaining her independence--even if it meant turning down a job to keep a sexy single father away. But after he made an offer she couldn't refuse, Miss Independence learned that passionate love could smolder but not smother.
COULD IT LEAD TO A LIFETIME OF MORE?
Tomas Garza needed Erica's help turning his daughter Hope's quinceanera into the perfect night. And though he was immediatley drawn to Erica, Tomas wouldn't risk having his daughter's heart broken-or his own-by getting involved with a woman who swore home and hearth were not for her. Still, he found Erica irresistible. Could he convince this career woman to turn in her single status for the family plan?

      5 out of 5 stars Fabulous!!.......2004-09-20

New-to-me-author Lynda Sandoval is now on my list of auto-buys. What a fantastic author! ONE PERFECT MAN was exactly that - perfect. Deeply emotional, real-life characters, and witty dialogue make this one of the more compelling series category reads I've had the pleasure of devouring.

KUDOS, Ms. Sandoval! Thanks for the delicious read!

5 out of 5 stars MAKE ROOM ON YOUR KEEPER SHELF.......2004-07-10

I read ONE PERFECT MAN on a flight from Orange County to Hawaii and then picked it up again for a second read the next day. Sandoval delivers a believable tale about a single father who wants to give his awkward 14-year-old daughter the perfect quincenera and against his rule of keeping his lovers separate from hearth and home, hires a sexy driven event planner. Single women who wrestle with the decision how let love in her life can relate to Erica. And every single woman will certainly want a man like Tomas!

This is a book you'll want to read over and over again because when you reach the end, you miss the characters.

Are you sometimes struggling with your feelings about yourself? Sometimes you just feel so different from everyone else. Perhaps you are singled out as being odd and no one wants to be around you. Sometimes you get so angry that you wonder how anyone can stand to be around you, much less love you. Zack is a ten-year-old boy who has an anger problem but has someone who loves him and keeps reassuring him that he is a great kid.

Kim Hix has written a book about her son Zack. He deals with his feelings differently than most kids. Her motivation for writing this book is so that other kids that struggle with their anger can see that they are not alone. She shows her love to her son through the pages in this book. It is easy to see that she does indeed love her son Zack even though he is sometimes a challenge to deal with. Kim is a very talented writer and her books shows much love and feeling for her son who is "a great kid." This is her first book and I hope that she writes more books for kids.

The illustrations in this book add to the storyline of the book. The pictures show so many different emotions. Lee Dillingham uses her art education to bring the text to life. I'm sure kids will be able to see themselves through the pages of this book. Of course, we all have bad days; after all, no one is perfect but we are all great kids.

Note from Brianne's Mother: Every child has their own characteristics. Sometimes Brianne struggles with feeling like she is different from the other kids much as Zack did in the book. I think "No One is Perfect and YOU are a Great Kid" will make kids understand that they all have unique gifts to offer. This is a must read for all children so they can understand each other's differences and appreciate them. After all, diversity amongst people makes the world a better place.

I just finished reading it, and the author truly writes from his heart and soul about life, love, nature, and his profound faith in God. And he often combines each of these elements into a single poem. Here is one of my favorites from this book:

"If you listen in the morning, as the sun comes into view,
You'll hear a love bird singing, a song meant just for you.

This haunting melody of love, will echo in your ears,
It will fill your heart with joy, and cast away your fears.

So when you hear this love song, Know that God is very near,
He comes in many guises, But His voice is very clear.

The author's voice is very clear in each of his poems - and I enjoyed this book very much.

                5 out of 5 stars Heart-warming Romance.......2003-10-14

Everyone says Kathleen Monroe is perfect---the perfect wife, the perfect hostess, the perfect mother. But after a lifetime of practice, Kathleen is beginning to wonder if perfectionism is a good thing. After all, it didn't help her marriage and might just have led to her daughter's illness. And if those aren't enough reasons for her to doubt her priorities, then meeting Logan Carr should be. Logan's great. He's kind, patient, and nothing like her first husband. But to Kathleen, he's far from perfect...

Under One Roof: Three Women, two kids, one cat...and the three men who are about to change their lives. It's the family you choose that counts.

Janice Johnson crafts another heart-warming romance where the characters are so real and compelling that you root for them from page one. This trilogy, including Taking a Chance and The New Man, is one of her best yet. All romance readers should pick these up today!!

interesting reading but it wasn't what i was looking for. nobody's fault im still keeping the book because i may just get an idea from that book later on

5 out of 5 stars Easy woodworking patterns........2005-09-06

This book turned out to be even better than I'd hoped. I can't wait to get started building some of the pieces. Easy to read and understand the diagrams. Condition of the book was great, and I've read it over and over as I plan the remodeling of my "new" old house.

5 out of 5 stars Great shop guide and overview.......2005-08-04

This is a great book for someone with shop skills and tools. The book shows a good variety of furniture most likely to be of interest to a person building furniture for their own home (or perhaps a gift!).

5 out of 5 stars Great Book of Plans.......2003-08-05

This book is a great "helper" for those who make Stickley inspired furniture. It has nominal dimensions for most pieces, which is a plus in helping with getting the proportions correct as well as milling lists for the projects. If you are looking for a "how-to" or complete plans you are in the wrong place. The illustrations in the book are straight from the original "The Craftsman" series.

1 out of 5 stars Save your money.......2003-02-03

The 62 proects are only a small picture of each final project with couple of drafted views of how the piece of furniture looks from different views. There is a parts list of materials needed, but no help in how to construct the furniture whatsoever. Any magazine or anything else out there has to be better than this. Everyone else has far over rated the book. Instead, subscribe to a good magazine like Popular Woodworking or something like that.

At last! An instruction journal for us 'Organic Nerds'! And in plain, understandable terminology. When it is advertised as covering 50 years of gardening (the right way) experience, you can take that to the bank! It was a revelation to read that some of the concepts I had been using for years, actually have merit. I knew they had worked for me, but it is always nice to be validated. If you can only purchase one gardening manual, this is the one to buy. It covers everything and because the methods are tried and true, you can feel confident following Ogdens' suggestions. I can remember when, years ago, neighbors thought me barmy for directly composting kitchen waste(sans meat products). I am vindicated!

Shepherd Ogden's Step-by-step guide to growing vegetables is a great companion to the Ogden's other book--The Cook's Garden-- and their catalog by the same name. The Ogden's practice what they preach and it shows in the solid recommendations for planting and preparing freshly harvested greens and veggies. Any gardener understands that the challenges we all face are precisely because we are living and gardening in a less-than-perfect and highly unpredictable world. Shep's suggestions and guidance will definately help even those of us who have been gardening for a lifetime to find greater success.

In a world of pesticides and GM foods, Mr. Odgen is trying to help us all out. He has wonderful ideas, and is able to convey his message to all readers. Nothing beats the taste of fresh, organically grown food. You will find this book every summer, dog eared and smeared with dirt, just where you left it with your garden tools last fall.

                      5 out of 5 stars Mr. Organic.......2000-12-30

Another master work from the master organic gardener! Shepherd Ogden has done it again. I have had the pleasure to meet Mr. Ogden and his wonderful family in the picturesque community of Langrove VT. Upon travelling north one summer we decided to seek out this man and his garden. It is an "earthly delight!" The property is an organic gardner's dream. We were fortunate enough to find Mr. Ogden (who insisted we call him Shepherd) at home.....out in the garden...hands in the soil...practicing his craft....which he makes an art! His lovely wife Ellen was also there, preparing a heavenly salad of succulent greens and vegetables from the family plot. Mrs Ogden who is an accomplished writer in her own right ; adds knowledge and grace to all that she endeavors. Her recipes have added tasty ideas to our menu! Shepherd Ogden's other books including Step by Step Organic Vegetable Gardening and Flower Gardening create a veritable encyclopedia and home guide to the organic gardening enthusiast. The addition of "Straight Ahead....." keeps the resource shelf well stocked.... "Straight Ahead....." is a great book for the novice gardener or the master.... There will always be space on my gardening bookshelf for another Ogden book. Shepherd Ogden comes from sturdy VT stock. We were introduced to this through the memory of his Grandfather "Big Sam" Ogden. Who wrote the organic gardening "bible" and had it republished in the early 1970's.

One of the main reasons that our family purchases these books is that we feel that through ....Shepherd's...forward's and intros to his books ....we are part of his "organic gardening family".... We highly recommend this and Mr Ogden's other books. Also we purchase most of our seeds from the Ogden's seed business "The Cook's Garden."

5 out of 5 stars Destined To Be A Classic!.......2000-12-29

An excellent offering by master organic gardener, forward thinking and practical minded Shepherd Ogden. This book covers all of the basics in an accessable way and would be of value to both new and experienced organic gardeners. More than a how-to book - this is a reference book that will become filled with compost enhanced thumbprints from my frequent use. I rate is 5 stars and a must have for anyone serious about their gardening library. This book is a workhorse for sure. It also would make a wonderful gift to anyone who yearns to go the organic way.

                                      Book Description

Here is a family guide to classic novels, contemporary fiction, myths and legends, science fiction and fantasy, folktales, Bible stories, picture books, biographies, holiday stories, and many other books that celebrate virtues and values.

There are more than 300 titles to choose from, each featuring a dramatic story and memorable characters who explore moral ground and the difference between what is right and what is wrong. These books will capture your child's imagination, and conscience as well-whether it is Beauty pondering her promise to Beast, mischievous Max in Where the Wild Things Are, the troubled boys of Lord of the Flies, generous Mr. Badger in The Wind in the Willows, or the courageous struggles of such real-life characters as Frederick Douglass and Anne Frank.

With entries arranged by category and reading level, there is something here for all readers-from preschoolers to teenagers-whatever their tastes may be. Each entry features a complete plot summary and publisher information so that you can find the book with ease in your local library or bookstore. It's not always easy to teach a child the difference between right and wrong, but stories-whether they are based on fantasy or rooted in real life-can speak to children more eloquently than any list of dos or don'ts and can impart moral values as they nurture a child's imagination.

5 out of 5 stars Great Resource for Choosing Books.......2007-10-04

This is an excellent book. It has chapters on various aspects of reasing as well as an annotated list of recommended books. The emphasis on the role of stories in building character is so true and valuable. This is a great resource for any family.

2 out of 5 stars Where Have We Seen This Before?.......2002-09-19

This book is OK, but I think it is merely a rerun of William Bennett's "Book of Virtues", sans William Bennett. And maybe it's just me, but I think the most important and fascinating book to have come along in a long time, if not ever, and is not even included in this book's list, is Norman Thomas Remick's rising star, "West Point: Character Leadership Education, A Book Developed from The Readings And Writings Of Thomas Jefferson".

5 out of 5 stars excellent resource for finding worthwhile books for kids.......2001-11-25

The title of this resource sounds stuffier than it is. The authors' philosophy seems to be one of "less is more" -- making the case, in an interesting and literate foreword and five introductory chapters, that books can be useful and even important resources for trying to help your child figure out what makes life interesting. These books can help provide role models, teach empathy, and transport the reader to a different world or state of mind. The authors de-emphasize problem novels for young adults, which they feel teach self-acceptance rather than improvement and whose authors often sacrifice story for message, opting instead for the mythic, transportive style. I've read a lot of children's literature and still found a number of new and interesting titles here.

Books are divided into genre and then age group (4-8, 8-12, 12+). There is a good science fiction/fantasy section. Other chapters include: picture books; fables and fairy tales; myths, legends and folktales; sacred texts; books for holidays and holy days; historical fiction; contemporary fiction (post WWII); and biography.

The book list contains about 300 books and includes title, author, illustrator, publisher, year of publication and number of pages, as well as a one-page summary of the plot and brief discussion of issues or virtues covered in the selection. Also included: a list of the books, in the order they appear, sans commentary; a short chapter about the Book List; a list of twenty videos deemed worthwhile viewing; a notes section in case you want to delve deeper; and an index. The index is the weak link here. For example, on page 35, one sentence ends " ... just as most good parents, whatever their views on censorship, tend to buy their children books by A. A. Milne and Mark Twain rather than books by the Marquis de Sade." Then the Marquis de Sade is in the index (!) while useful subject terms, like 'loneliness' and 'friendship', are not. Later editions should include a thorough subject index.

A good companion book to Jim Trelease's The Read-Aloud Handbook, and a valuable resource for anyone mentoring children. The commentaries are thoughtful and well written.

5 out of 5 stars A Great Guide to Books Worth Reading.......2001-11-10

As another reviewer pointed out, the title and subtitle of this book may put people off. But this isn't a book that applies a preachy sort of moralism to the task of building a child's character through literature. Far from it. It's a very valuable guide to books that have, and will, stand the test of time as classics. I discovered many wonderful books through this guide and had a great time reading them to my children. The best children's literature is as satisfying on an adult level as it is for the child.

This book is valuable not only for the lists and summaries of good books for children (grouped by age level and category) that takes up most of its pages. The first 60 pages contain five short chapters on the importance of reading for children and of selecting the sort of books that will build their character and intellect. It explains why it does matter what your child reads (not just that they read). Don't skip this reading. No matter how convinced you are of the importance of good literature for a child's development, your conviction and understanding will deepen by reading what the authors have to say in this introductory material.

The fifth chapter has some especially useful guidelines on selecting and sharing good books. Distinguish between issues and virtues: "Having enlightened opinions is no substitute for having character". "Good books are people centered, not problem centered." Context of behavior portrayed in a book is crucial. "Character building books are not simply about good people doing good things. ... The question is not whether unethical behavior is present, but how it is presented". Look for stories that "open up new possibilities and stretch the imagination. ... be wary of stories that focus exclusively on narrow teen or preteen preoccupations, or those that offer nothing more than the therapeutic reassurance that everything is okay". "Look for books in which the main character grows". There is an education here to help you discern for yourself the quality of children's literature. There is also some good advice on how to read to your children; a good list of "do's and don't's" that make reading aloud more productive an fun. It won't be long before your kids are turning off the TV and asking you to read to them. You will have plenty of good material to draw from with this book as your guide.

                                      5 out of 5 stars Character Building.......2001-10-01

It's important for people of all ages to be concerned about character and moral values, especially in these modern days. Themes of classic stories have not really been improved upon over the years; wisdom is timeless. I also recommend Storybook Mentors, Grown-up Wisdom From Children's Classics.

                                      Book Description

Andy Warhol is usually remembered as the artist who said that he wanted to be a machine, and that no one need ever look further than the surface when evaluating him or his art. Arguing against this carefully crafted pop image, Reva Wolf shows that Warhol was in fact deeply emotionally engaged with the people around him and that this was reflected in his art.

Wolf investigates the underground culture of poets, artists, and filmmakers who interacted with Warhol regularly. She claims that Warhol understood the literary imagination of his generation and that recognizing Warhol's literary activities is essential to understanding his art. Drawing on a wealth of unpublished material, including interviews, personal and public archives, tape recordings, documentary photographs, and works of art, Wolf offers dramatic evidence that Warhol's interactions with writers functioned like an extended conversation and details how this process impacted his work. This highly original and fascinating study gives us fresh insight into Warhol's art as practice and reformulates the myth that surrounds this popular American artist.

                                      Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Warhol and writers.......2000-10-30

Warhol is often portrayed in films and literature as a superficial, aloof, overtly homosexual artist. What is often overlooked is that Warhol was an intellectual. Reva Wolf does a wonderful job pointing this key factor out to the reader. Warhol was associated with some of the world's greatest writers. People like Kerouac and Dylan came to Warhol for a reason; Warhol offered them a world that was worth writing about. Wolf delves into Warhol and his relations with various writers. The factory scene is covered in that great detail is given to Gerard Malanga (who was often viewed as Warhol's sole intellectual). Gerard was an aspiring poet (much like many at The Factory) and Warhol was often spotted at various "happenings" listening to the current spill of contemporary poetry in the sixties. There are relatively few flaws in comparison to the overall book. Wolf provides the reader with several rare photographs. The clarity of some of them is slightly weak. Yet, the layout of the book is modern and a few of the photos catch Warhol fairly intimately. The entire book provides the reader with an intellectual perspective to viewing the life of Andy Warhol. Wolf proves that Warhol was more than his facade by addressing the gossip and writings that surrounded Warhol. Wolf does not attempt to explain the enigma which is Warhol, but merely gives a new angle in which to view. Anyone interested in Warhol and the intelligencia of the sixties must read this book. Wolf's book is a fabulous companion to The Andy Warhol Diaries and Popism.
