Useless!!!.......2007-04-15
First and foremost, be aware if there are any reviews referring to "textbook", they are not for this "Cram 101 Textbook Outlines" which is supposed to be a textbook companion.
"Cram 101 Textbook Outlines" is useless!!! This is nothing but a bunch of glossary. And a half of the book is blank for writing notes. What a rip-off!!!
There's no outlines at all. No chapter summaries, no
explanation of concepts. Totally useless.
I have used "Collins College Outlines" series (I rate them 3 stars) and "Barron's Business Reviews" series (I rate them 5 stars).
Never buy any of "Cram 101 Textbook Outlines" series.
Technical notes: "Cram 101 Textbook Outlines" is POD (Print on demand). No wonder quality of printing is inferior (Looks like a xerox copy). And priced too high for this quality. For those who are not familiar with publishing industry--POD is used for ultra small quantity less than 100 copies. This is a telltale sign that book is not expected to sell minimum quantity (usually 3,000 copies) that commercial publisher is willing to
commit to publish. Simply put, POD means inferrior and
overpriced books. A work of amateur.
Very good resource.......2005-10-06
I'm CEO of a medium size business and wanted a resource to teach me accounting. This is a great book, with plenty of assignments which fully reinforce the lessons. The only disappointment is that there are no solutions and the publisher only gives them to you if you are a registered teacher.
Great transaction and product.......2005-09-26
The book arrived early and in great shape - US edition, hardcover, and no surprises.
Used it in place of my assigned financial accounting book..........2001-08-16
NYU's Stern School Of Business uses this book and its a well-crafted introduction to financial accounting. While taking accounting at the other New York business school, I deep sixed my assigned accounting book and instead borrowed my wife's. It coverage of topics and pedagogical flow are quite approachable and manageable. Struggling friends begain to purchase it for themselves. An excellent book. An interesting book as well. Case examples and references keep things interesting. Not just dry rules.

great book on grouse hunting.......1997-04-10
"The hardest thing to do when praising Chris Dorsey on grouse is to avoid quoting him. He knows that the passion for grouse hunting is akin to the passion for living life well, and has the words to tell us why." -- Stephen J. Bodi
Book Description
James Krenov's delicate, lyrical cabinets have inspired a generation of wood craftsmen, as has his impassioned insistence that one do his very best work, no matter what. In this volume, first published in 1979, Krenov invites the reader into his workshop, where he shares his techniques and uncompromising approach to craftsmanship, along with thoughts about his work and its place in the world. Photo sequences show how Krenov composes a cabinet directly in the wood, without dimensioned drawings. He also discusses working with shop-sawn veneers, the technique of fitting curved doors, and the problems of accuracy and mistakes. The book concludes with a detailed exploration of three furniture projects: a curved showcase cabinet, a writing table with drawer, and a chess table.

The Spirit of the "Wood!".......2007-08-13
I've read the other reviews. From 2 star to 5 star they say it all! What can I add? "Norm" is a practical "New Yankee." Watched him grow from working with Bob Villa to his multiple projects and present ease of construction. Like some of the reviewers I was looking for more of that. What I found was more. "Impractical Cabinetmaker" is far from my learning from PBS. It was a shocker, and a mover. I have been making things in wood since I was told by my dad, "If I show you how to use the tools and I give you your own, will you stay out of my toolshed?" I live in a remote area, and the woodworkers I've found are a solitary bunch of "individuals" who would rather do than talk. With this book I became Mr. Krenov's temporary apprentice. With words he gives a feel for being "in woodworking!" For me words are important, for other woodworkers they are not. I've had the book and read it twice, about 3 years apart. It is not a book about "what we do" but "why we do it!" Other books are more factual, more practical. This one is spiritual!
Didn't match the hype........2007-03-10
I just didn't like this book. Way too much new age "fluffy" stuff, not enough meat. I didn't even like the furniture the guy built - just didn't fit my style. I expected to like this book a lot more given its reviews - should have paid attention to some of the more negative reviews I guess. I certainly was not "inspired".
Of course, I do not consider myself an artist either - I hack stuff together, trying to follow good plans where I can. My stuff turns out OK, but I have no asperations of making a work of art. Those with different goals may find more value in this. I don't have much interest in creating something new from scratch, an 'original' composition.
A good companion.......2007-01-03
A pleasant book when you already konw woodworking.
Not the first book to purchase when beginning with wood, but it deserves a good place among philosophy items.
none like it.......2006-05-21
I bought this book a few years ago and I'm still reading it...or I should say re-reading it. As I progress with my woodworking skills, build some pieces, work with a different wood, etc, I find things in this book I didn't see before. There's a little bit of how-to here, but for me that's not where the real value lies. I love the philosophies of working with wood that Mr. Krenov offers -- they are worth the price of admission, and should be the reason for reading it. So my suggestion is to acquire the books you need about joinery, shaping, cabinet construction, etc., and as you go along every now and then take this book from the shelf and re-read it. Maybe not all of it, but I'm betting that as you grow in woodcraft you will react to it in a different way than you did the last time.
If all you want to do is cut out parts and fasten them together, why not get an erector set?...not so much sawdust. I agree with the reviewer who suggests that it should be required reading for every consumer as well.
The Krenov syndrome.......2006-02-21
First of all - my rating of this book is not guided by Mr. Krenov's abilities - it is obvious he is a rare talent in the woodworking and design field...a man who has thought much about what he does and why and in so doing, has mastered his craft. The other side of the coin is that this book is not for everybody - it is heady, filled with a lifetime of introspective philosophy and covers advanced techniques the average person will never use and is nearly useless for the average woodworker who is looking for a "how to" book. Unless you are into an almost Zen like approach to woodworking or are looking for inspiration at an almost unreachable level, this book may not be for you. Is it a good read? Yes, and worth reading, no doubt. Will it help you go out to your shop the day after you read it and actually do something you gleaned out of it? Probably not. This book CAN be depressing. On the other hand, it will most assuredly open your mind to a rare and beautiful area of woodworking that to this point may have escaped you. Read it, enjoy it, it may inspire you to do better work or at least make you wish you could. His creations are beautiful. At the very least, you will come away with a certain amount of awe at what a dedicated, thoughtful and talented man can do with rather simple tools :)

The author lays in simple, easy to understand concepts the biblical foundation necessary for men to turn their hearts to home and change the world.
Customer Reviews:
A must read for all men.......2007-09-28
This is the best book I've read on what the biblical role of men is in leading their families. It reviews what has happened in recent history that has led to the break down of the family and then turns to the bible to give practicle instruction on how men need to get back to their God ordained role as leaders of the family. I have recommended this book to my married and single friends as well. This book gets 5 stars from me.
The Best.......2007-05-12
We have a Christian counseling center that operates as a ministry out our church and we use this book to work with men. It was not written specifically for counseling but it is simply the best book on Christian manhood that we have found. A MUST have book for every Christian man. Oh, and here's a hint, if you feel like you're "ok" then you definitely need this book!!!
I would also HIGHLY recommend this book Equipped to Love : Idolatry-free Relationships and anything else by Norm Wakefield. [...]
Great Read, Dead on!.......2007-01-16
This book is right on! I would recommend it to any man I knew. There are plenty out there who need to read and adhere to the principals found within its pages. People who read this with open hearts and will see this is how it is supposed to be before liberalism took over our society and churches.
Arguments repeated over and over, and a labor to read - repeats stuff over and over again.......2006-01-20
The idea of the book is great! Returning the home to the male lead role.
However, the author repeats the same aruments over, and over, and over, and OVER AGAIN! After a while, its a REAL turn off to someone who is looking for real theological content? After all, isnt that why I buy a book, for the content? This book was a real labor to read, repeating the same arguments over and over and over again!
Also, the book uses a big font, and the pages are double spaced.
The book would only be approx. 150 pages with a normal font and single line spacing.
This is a good topic for the book, but the content of book itsself left me asking "Why am I reading this?"
I fianlly gave up 1/2 of the way thorough it, and started to read parts of the book here and there, instead of reading it straight thorough. I cannot help but feel VERY DISAPPOINTED with this book.
Father? Future Father? Read this book........2005-05-21
This is one of the best books on the subject of marriage I've ever personally read. Every man needs to understand his role in his family. This book helps to explain that role in an easy-to-read, biblically-grounded way and gives solid principles as to how that role plays out into practical, everyday life. If you're a father, about to be a father, or hope to become a father someday, you should read this book.
Product Description
History: Fiction or Science? is the most explosive tractate on history ever written - however, every theory it contains, no matter how unorthodox, is backed by solid scientific data. The book is well-illustrated, contains over 446 graphs and illustrations, copies of ancient manuscripts, and countless facts attesting to the falsity of the chronology used nowadays, which never cease to amaze the reader. Eminent mathematician proves that: Jesus Christ was born in 1153 and crucified in 1186 The Old Testament refers to mediaeval events. Apocalypse was written after 1486. Does this sound uncanny? This version of events is substantiated by hard facts and logic - validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources - to a greater extent than everything you may have read and heard about history before. The dominating historical discourse in its current state was essentially crafted in the XVI century from a rather contradictory jumble of sources such as innumerable copies of ancient Latin and Greek manuscripts whose originals had vanished in the Dark Ages and the allegedly irrefutable proof offered by late mediaeval astronomers, resting upon the power of ecclesial authorities. Nearly all of its components are blatantly untrue! For some of us, it shall possibly be quite disturbing to see the magnificent edifice of classical history to turn into an ominous simulacrum brooding over the snake pit of mediaeval politics. Twice so, in fact: the first seeing the legendary millenarian dust on the ancient marble turn into a mere layer of dirt - one that meticulous unprejudiced research can eventually remove. The second, and greater, attack of unease comes with the awareness of just how many areas of human knowledge still trust the three elephants of the consensual chronology to support them. Nothing can remedy that except for an individual chronological revolution happening in the minds of a large enough number of people.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Book Description
The name Frank Zappa often conjures up the image of a deranged satirist. But for close to thirty years, between 1966 until his untimely death from prostate cancer in 1993, Frank Zappa was one of the most influential, innovative, and controversial musicians in contemporary and popular music (despite little airplay on the radio). Beginning with his band, the Mothers of Invention, Frank Zappa built a formidable career in rock and roll by combining a wide range of styles, including serious contemporary music, jazz, rhythm and blues, doo-wop, and social and political parody. Yet Zappa was often portrayed as a drug addict (even though he denounced drug use) and a fetishist (despite a normal married life). In The Dangerous Kitchen: The Subversive Art of Frank Zappa, Kevin Courrier explodes those myths by illuminating the facts about this outrageously gifted composer. Courrier examines how Frank Zappa`s emergence in American popular culture during the eclectic and experimental sixties was no accident.
Courrier illustrates that Zappa`s musical career - which poked fun at middle-class conformity, the hippie sub-culture, disco, the rock industry, and the Reagan era - had its roots in the artistic rebellion against Romanticism in the nineteenth century. The book draws links to the musical and cultural antecedents of Frank Zappa`s career, including Erik Satie, Arnold Schoenberg, Anton Webern, Igor Stravinsky, Charles Ives, and Zappa`s true hero, Edgard Varese, who was as much a scientific inventor of electronic sounds as he was a dynamic avant-garde composer.
In The Dangerous Kitchen: The Life and Politics of Frank Zappa, Kevin Courrier examines Frank Zappa as a composer, performer, political artist, and American original.
Customer Reviews:
The best Zappa book besides Frank's own.......2005-01-28
Courrier's thorough knowledge of 20th-century music informs his argument that Frank was a brilliant composer and one of the very few "real guys." This volume proves meticulously detailed, well researched and a delight to read from beginning to end. What I was most satisfied with, once I'd started sinking my cerebellum into Mr. Courrier's pleasantly voiced prose, was his attention to the MUSIC (who needs another bio about Frank's life? Who needs another dissertation on the various weaklings who've been offended by Frank's lyrics?).
This book follows up on Frank's own statement that anyone with a decent store of musical knowledge would realize that what he was hearing was more outrageous, in terms of how it was MUSICALLY flying in the face of custom and history, than any lyric or story idea could ever be. We need more books like Courrier's; it's time to focus on the music itself and make an educated case for that music's importance in revealing the so-called "high/low art barrier" as being purely mythical. I highly recommend this book to anyone curious about, or already entranced by, the music of Frank Zappa.
A different view.......2004-10-18
While reading DANGEROUS KITCHEN on a plane, the person sitting next to me commented on the title of my book. "Who is Frank Zappa?" she asked. When I began to explain who Frank Zappa was, I was struck by the fact that numerous books have been written about or by Zappa. To digress a bit, Amazon offers more books by and about Zappa than Chester Arthur, our 21st President. As for me, I have read the following books by or about Frank Zappa. In addition, this list constitutes a ranking of my assessment of the quality of these books.
1. THE REAL FRANK ZAPPA BOOK by Frank Zappa and Peter Occhioigrosso
2. DANGEROUS KITCHEN: THE SUBVERSIVE WORLD OF ZAPPA by Kevin Courrier
3. MOTHER! THE FRANK ZAPPA STORY by Michael Gray
4. FRANK ZAPPA: THE NEGATIVE DIALECTICS OF POODLE PLAY
5. ELECTRIC DON QUIXOTE: THE DEFINITIVE STORY OF FRANK ZAPPA by Neil Slaven
6. NECESSITY IS... THE EARLY YEARS OF FRANK ZAPPA AND THE MOTHERS OF INVENTION by Billy James
7. COSMIK DEBRIS: THE COLLECTIVE HISTORY AND IMPROVISATIONS OF FRANK ZAPPA by Greg Russo
8. NO COMMERCIAL POTENTIAL: THE SAGA OF FRANK ZAPPA by David Walley
9. MY BROTHER WAS A MOTHER by Patrice "Candy" Zappa
10. THEM OR US by Frank Zappa
11. UNDER THE SAME MOON by Suzannah Thana Harris
12. BEING FRANK: MY TIME WITH FRANK ZAPPA by Nigery Lennon
The extraordinary feature about all of these books is that each presents a totally different aspect or dimension of Frank Zappa. In many ways, it seems like I am not reading a book about the same person. Each of these authors sees Zappa through their personalized lens. Courrier presentation is different from the others because he offers details of the environment surrounding virtually every composition. Since his book is one of the later publications on the list above, he often quotes and/or cites from the other works. Interesting, I didn't get the feeling of reading the same information as I have read in the other works.
I liked DANGEROUS KITCHEN: THE SUBVERSIVE WORLD OF ZAPPA. Every Frank Zappa fan will enjoy it.
Dangerous indeed..........2002-10-09
This book is fun to read , mainly for little tidbits and stories about the man and his many bands. But if you are looking for a literary or critical evaluation of his work, look elsewhere. There are no annotations ;you have to take the author as the authority for much of what is presented. Some of the analysis is wanting and has a psychedelic gleam. For example there's very little examination of how feminists view Zappa.Their objections to some of his "nasty" songs ( eg. Harry you're a beast) are glossed over by appeal to some "superior" position FZ supposedly had- as if he were poking fun at the males in the situations. I can't claim to know where he stood , can you ? There's surprisingly little analysis of his family life; I think that's where the answer to questions about the man would be found . That is if anyone cares to ask them.
Good, but uneven.......2002-10-08
This book does a good job as an extended discography of Zappa's work, but fails as a biography of his actual life, personal or professional. I enjoyed the detail that Courrier brought to Zappa's early life, especially the assembly of early albums from compositions and live recordings. But as Zappa got married and developed a family, it seems like his personal live was entirely minimized within the book. The PMRC trial hardly got a page of ink, although it was a large event in Zappa's life, and other events were quickly mentioned and then left behind. Meanwhile, each album had pages and pages of detail for each song. I did appreciate the play-by-play on the albums, especially the long appendix detailing the differences in the current CD releases from the original LPs, but I was hoping for more third-person detail about the man Zappa, aside from what was officially presented in his own book.
Zappa is a god to Courrier, but not to me.......2002-08-31
Yes, the book does a decent job of covering the various phases of Zappa's career, but Courrier's admiration of Zappa colors the book and prevents it from being an even-handed view of his career. There's plenty to admire in what Zappa accomplished, but Courrier dismisses off-handedly legitimate criticisms of Zappa's role as bandleader, composer, purveyor of comedy music, panderer to the juvenile, and cultural icon that might have given the book balance. For Zappa maniacs only.
