Easy To Use.......2006-11-10
AAA tour books are small and easy to carry. They don't go into great depth on any subject, but if it's a short trip, they give you the highlights.I especially like the "Top Ten" listings in each book, and the star ratings for each attraction, which allow you to set priorities for things to see.
Cover says it all.......2005-06-21
A guide about the catalan capital that has a picture of a woman dressed in an andalusian (southern Spain) typical dress on its cover is like a guide of Edinburgh with a pint of Guiness on its cover. Only suitable for anglosaxon tourists with a very low cultural profile.
"Essential" highlights in a compact size........2000-08-08
The book has a good summary for the major highlights, and very nice pictures. Good overall coverage, but the best part is that the book is small enough to fit in a bag or a pocket to travel with you when finding the features of Madrid.
Good, but not detailed enough, map of central Madrid. One would still need a more detailed map for a lot of walking around the city.

Book Description
WHO ORDERED THE HIT ON RUSH LIMBAUGH? It's 2015. A Republican choke hold on the White House and Congress is in its second decade. Desperate Democrats continue to be pilloried in the polls and each election year, their party's faithful become fewer and fewer.
Facing extinction by the GOP, a splinter group of Democrats hatches a frightful solution. With the help of an organized crime lord, they plot to assassinate the mouthpiece of the Republican juggernaut conservative talk-show host Rush Limbaugh.
The Assassination of Rush Limbaugh is the fascinating multi-generational tale of two immigrant families set on a collision course one beholden to Democratic ideals and social change, the other quickly absorbed by the underworld.
For nearly a century, the two families' paths crisscross, until fate pits the scion of one family against the descendant of the other. The harrowing race to thwart the assassination of Rush leads to a spellbinding showdown that will have reverberations for generations to come.
Set against a backdrop of national politics, social upheaval, and the rise of talk radio, The Assassination of Rush Limbaugh is a breathless, brilliant thriller for our political times.
Customer Reviews:
A Master Storyteller.......2006-09-14
It was a great story or rather, several stories expertly woven together by a masterful storyteller. I truly enjoyed it. I find it hard to believe this is a first effort. I look forward to the next book with anticipation.
A Great Book.......2006-09-14
The Assassination of Rush Limbaugh is the story of two immigrant families in search of the American dream. The family from France takes up law, politics, and police work, while the Sicilian family descends into a life of crime. For the better part of a century, the families' courses fatefully intersect and intertwine until, in the climax, the youngest descendant of the French family finds herself in a losing race to prevent the hit man of the organized crime family from shooting America's number one talk radio personality.
Along the way, readers go to artillery training and World War I combat with Harry Truman. They experience Truman's angst for the Presidential decision to use atomic bombs on Japan and they go ashore with American troops invading Sicily in World War II. Readers sit in the courtrooms where three historical trials change the legal face of America. They experience the life of an American Mafiosi from birth through his membership in a violent Brooklyn street gang to his rise to the inner sanctum of a New York crime family.
Readers tune in to the development of talk radio, and the fear it instills in politicians, from its first broadcast at the 1915 San Francisco Worlds Fair to today's round-the-clock diatribes. They sit in on closed-door meetings where that fear gradually leads powerful politicians to plot the murders of the two most popular talk show hosts.
Readers feel the icy fear and terror in the minds of two victims of exotic and deliberate murder by a hit man whose very name means nightmare in Italian.
And finally, readers get to know Jodie Farmer, as she goes from adolescent to college pal of a mafia captain's son to heroic FBI Special Agent. They feel her take a terrorist's bullet while foiling a nearly successful plot to kill tens of thousands in America's northwest. And they're by her side in the climactic gun battle inside Rush Limbaugh's Florida mansion.
I love the book and highly recommend it.
Must set the record straight.......2006-09-10
I was hoodwinked into buying this book by the few reviews posted here, so I'm hoping to offer a little guidance to others who might actually be interested in political-thriller type novels.
This is a truly amateur, sophomoric effort at fiction writing. And whoever the publishing company is, they've apparently cut out the middleman by foregoing an editor. In a 20-page stretch near the beginning of the book I found a half-dozen anachronisms (using facial tissues in 1915, but not invented until 1930; a female Columbia Law grad in 1917, but no woman at Columbia Law until 1927) and malapropisms (Nez Perce glasses instead of pince-nez, a voice quivering instead of quavering).
The characters are cardboard and events follow the most cliched patterns: in the climactic gunfight in the year 2016 the hero and villain each shoot each other in the right shoulder; then as the villain claws across the floor after his gun, Rush Limbaugh dives onto the floor (at age 65!) to grab the gun and to squeeze off a kill shot. Cheesy, cheesy, cheesy.
This is truly bottom-of-the-barrel stuff. Be forewarned.
Amazing read..........2006-09-02
I loved this book and could not put it down...I found myself up at 3:00 in the morning rushing to the next page. The intelligence and compasion the author put into the book was admirable and fantastic at best! I also could see this book as a movie....Sal....James Gandolfini? Isn't it about time for another great Hollywood Goodfellas movie? Great Book!!
The Assassination of Rush Limbaugh.......2006-08-02
I absolutely loved this book I could not put it down. I can see it as a movie and I hope it gets there. I also hope Rush is bright enough to read this. It's a great read.

Book Description
Robert Ferrell tells an engrossing tale of ruthless ambition, secret meetings, and party politics surrounding the Democratic choice of a running mate for FDR in 1944. Startling in its conclusions, impeccable in its research, Choosing Truman is an engrossing, behind-the-scenes look at the making of the nation's thirty-third president.
Customer Reviews:
Deja vu.......2002-05-18
I remember how avidly (at age 15)I followed by radio the excitement which was the 1944 Democratic Convention. This little book does an excellent job of trying to tell what happened behind the scenes, and reads like a novel--where one must continually remind oneself that it IS going to come out all right, that Truman will be nominated, that he will go on to be an outstanding President, and that some things do work out for the best. An entralling and fascinating book, it brought back to me all the excitement which permeated Chicago and the people who were following what went on there in those momentous July days in 1944.
Book Description
Since 1990, Jean Driscoll has been one of the most inspiring leaders in women's sports. Her tenacity for winning at women's wheelchair racing has delivered her into the record books, and her charisma and enthusiasm for life has captured the hearts of audiences worldwide. Best known for her eight victories at the Boston Marathon and her two Olympic silver medals (1992, 1996), Jean has inspired both men and women, athletes and non-athletes, and those with and without physical disabilities. She's been featured on Good Morning America, ABC Nightline, and the Today Show, and twice in USA Today. A documentary highlighting Jean's life story, Against the Wind, has aired on over 400 PBS stations nationwide. In addition to training and racing, Jean serves as a corporate spokesperson for Ocean Spray Cranberries, Inc. As a motivational speaker, she delights in sharing her "Dream Big, Work Hard" message at conventions, corporations, schools, and with the media.
Now in trade paperback, Determined to Win, chronicles Jean's journey from physical paralysis to true spiritual freedom.
Customer Reviews:
Determined to Win...What an Inspiration.......2003-09-25
My son was in the hospital when I read this book, the Child Life Specialist asked if I would "look" at it. I read it in five hours (and I am not much of a reader)! It took off like a rocket and never stopped. Jean's story is not only an inspiring one, but it helps a parent of a child with Spina Bifida see from the child's point of view. That alone makes this book priceless. Thank you Jean, for laying it all out in the open. You have a graceful courage that any mother would be proud of.
Determined To Win is inspirational.......2000-10-31
Determined to Win was an excellent book. It sounded so much like what has happened in my life. Hopefully some day I'll be as sucessful as Jean in wheelchair racing but this book surely inspires me to push myself to ultimite limit in everything. I highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone!
"Determined is a winner".......2000-09-27
Determined to win is an absolute winner. This book flowed like an exciting best selling novel. I feel I've not only been into Jean Driscoll's head, but also in her heart.

Mucha Posters Postcards: 24 Ready-to-Mail Cards (Card Books)
ASIN: 0300074190 |
Book Description
This lavishly illustrated book presents the full spectrum of Alphonse Mucha`s works, from his innovative posters and decorative panels to his architectural designs, jewelry, sculpture, photographs, books, and interiors. The authors discuss Mucha`s years in Paris, his iconography of Sarah Bernhardt, his service to the Czech government, his distinctive style that became nearly synonymous with turn-of-the-century French Art Nouveau, and much more.
Customer Reviews:
Another textbook masquerading as an art book . . ........2007-08-29
If you are looking for an art book, avoid this one. I adore Mucha's work. That being said, I was decidedly underwhelmed with this massive tome. I was really looking forward to this because it seemed like it would be loaded with full color images from Mucha's career.
Half the book is black and white pictures with text. Then comes the 'Catalogue' which I'm finding means code for 'small pictures ahead'.
The entire Slav epic is reproduced, however the images are so tiny you can barely make it out, except for a couple pieces that take up half the page. Even more annoying is the fact that the teeny images occupy what is largely a blank page. Two or three images way down at the bottom and blank space for the rest of it.
I guess it's part of 'negative space' and art or whatever, but it felt like a rip off.
The rest of the 100 or so pages of art is much like this. Small images of most of his work, like 'Seasons' and 'Jewels' with mostly a blank page.
Why wouldn't they use more of the page and blow up the image so the reader can enjoy the works? This large book could have been the definitive book on Mucha for art book lovers. That is why I would rate this as an over hyped textbook. The best Mucha book out there is the one I imported from Prague.
Don't waste your time with this unless you are into a scholarly approach to this fantastic artist. For classroom study at best.
not what I expected.......2007-08-07
this book was more like a text book. I'd say that 2/3 of the book was text, when I expected a book with mainly illustrations/examples of Mucha's work.
this book was made out to be a mainly-illustration book with full color images. the images are mostly in black & white and most are of bad quality.
Excellently.......2007-01-27
The detailed comments written with feeling.
Illustrations reflect all stages of creativity
The book, worthy any collection
A great addition for a personal library.......2007-01-13
I purchased this book from Amazon.com after visiting the Mucha Museum in Prague in September '07. Believe it or not, there were NO English versions of Mucha's life, works, or anything in book form. I was pleased to find this book available here and have enjoyed it greatly. It has good coverage of his life, and his works and a complete section in the back of his works in color. The only drawback is that not all of the colored pages are true to the colors that I saw at the museum, but most are good.
Awesome, comprehensive book - but hard to get from Amazon directly........2005-10-01
This is an extremely handsome volume, beautifully printed and presented. The content is vast: sketches, photographs of models, finished works - if you like Mucha's work, it's a must-have.
However: the review entitled, "Beware Amazon doesn't stock this item" was accurate regarding direct purchase from Amazon - after several months and delays, I cancelled the order and followed Amazon's "used & new available from ..." link to purchase it from one of their affiliates. Once I did that, I had the book within a week!

Book Description
Peggy and Pam were two desperately disorganized sisters. After analyzing their lives, they set up a rotating card system that scheduled their chores on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis. with a combination of the sympathy of a fellow former slob, and the firm resolution of a for-your-own-good mother, they show readers how they too can get organized.
Customer Reviews:
The Best...........2007-10-11
This book fit me to a 'T'. How many times have you said, "This is it, we're finally going to have a clean and organized house", then this book is for you. I must say I wasn't prepared to actually have to make up a system. You have to buy different colored note cards, card dividers and a nice box that they'll fit nicely into. It's not really that big of a deal, I just wasn't expecting all that.
It's very helpful though. It keeps you organized on what needs to be done and when, to keep you on a schedule. Now I just got back from a weekend get away so I am not caught up, BUT I know I will get there. This system is very helpful.
On top of it all, THIS BOOK IS HILLARIUS! I was crying sometimes I was laughing so hard. It's fun to read other people's messy house horror stories. Like the panic of the door bell ringing, do we answer it, or go out the basement door to meet them inside so they don't have to come in to see our pig sty.
I highy recommend! These sister authors are hysterical and helpful.
Read this book first!.......2007-09-30
I have been a fan of Pam and Peggy for over 25 years. Their system really works. I decided to get back on board the organization train as a new empty nester and decided to buy the second book, even thought it has been out for over 10 years. I wish I had read this book first. The card system is streamlined and easier to set up and follow. Have fun reading this funny practical guide to getting back on track.
From Pigpen 2 Paradise to Phil Donahue.......2007-08-14
These ladies have such a wonderful way to look at life. I've been following them since they were on the Phil Donahue Show in their early years. They changed my life over the years to take control of a very closet "pigpen" person. I've watched them when they've added family members, their grand babies, to when they have lost family members, their Mother & Father, God rest their souls. These ladies always feel like they are real people.....not just a book person trying to earn some extra money. I've enjoyed watching them over the years and think of them as part of my "own" family.
Their few point has been so helpful in getting the junk out of my world. From getting a handle of my messy house to getting a handle of a messy relationship.
If you are someone that is trying to get from out of the bottom of the pile.. this book is for you.
Peggy & Pam have been a lifesaver through out my life.
Saving lifes with Three by fives.
I hope they don't mind that I post this for them.
"Using humor, we are dedicated to helping people improve the quality of their homes. We know that the strength of the family has a profound effect upon the schools, the community, the workplace, the country and the world."
God Bless you Peggy & Pam.
L
an ok book.......2007-07-05
Some good ideas, shows those who are overwhelmed how to tackle things one step at a time. I am not using the method-I found it too constraining and made my own system. It did give some advice that I was able to chage to suit my own system but over all I don't think there is much here. If you can get a used copy for a couple bucks go for it! Personally I think if someone has so much junk in their house they can not move they need to see a professional to find out why they are holding onto junk-there is something deeper going on and they need help.
Erma Bombeck Meets Julie Morgenstern.......2007-06-23
Why I read this book: I got this book largely because of the title, because I work out of my home (and I fancy myself to be an executive!). However, in this book "home executive" refers to housewife... running a household. As a bachelor I could certainly use the help with that, so I read it anyway.
The strength of this book is it's home-spun style. Pam and Peggy are sisters, each of them tell their tales of woe... what it was like being disorganized slobs, and then tell how wonderful their lives are now that they have "the system." The way they unfold their story is very personal and funny. Kind of like Erma Bombeck. If you've had to run a household, particularly with kids involved, you will relate to them. They add to the personal nature of the book by including several pages of photos of them, them as kids, their kids, spouses, etc.
The Book's Weakness: The book is 165 pages, and only one chapter of 25 pages is devoted to the actual "system." Although it may work great for them, for most of us disorganized types we read it and say, "What?" I need a lot more hand-holding, step-by-step instructions. It seemed that this was a book of their experience and then they did a drive-by when it came to helping us put into practice what they did.
The guts of the book: Their system revolves around the use of 3x5 cards. I do like that part, because I have grown so weary of "lists," and have recently changed to index cards exclusively. Lists always need changed or rewritten. Cards can be "recycled" for future reminders, or thrown away if the task is done. And I'm just a more tangible, visible, feel-it type of person. Also, with lists, all I need to do is look at it once and I'm already feeling overwhelmed. I need to "see" one task at a time. In any case, the last thing I wanted to do after reading this book was to try and figure out and implement their particualar 3x5 system. Way too complicated with way too little instruction in how to really get it up and running, even though I've read several books on organizing, and have experimented with many "systems." I did pick up a few tips here and there that were helpful in my continuing quest for creating my own personal efficient and effective task, time, and information management system.
The flavor of the book: As well as home-spun stories with glaringly real anecdotes of their daily life, the book is interspersed with poems, cartoons, and their philosophy on life and happiness.
Evangelical Alert: The book is interspersed with occasional god-talk and spirituality, but loosely defined. On one page they quote Oral Roberts and Paramahansa Yogananda right after each other. In one chapter they discuss the effect that "getting their act together" had on their marriage. Peggy's went through some changes, but came out better. Pam ended up divorcing her "critical" husband.
Quote from book: A disorganized person's Christmas prayer (p. 96) "O Lord, bless my desperate search for the twenty-five gifts I need to find in two hours. Let ther be cash somewhere I havent' looked, and let my bank card work one more time without an authorization call. Let there be just one more Polly Puberty Doll somewhere and let there be batteries included. Guide me to just the right store, and lead me to the correct sizes and colors. Let each selection be exactly what my loved ones had hoped and dreamed for. Keep me calm as I grope through crowds, scrounge through sale items, and dash up and down escalators. O Lord, forgive me for leaving this to the last minute again. If you'll get me through this one more time, I promise I'll get organized."
