Great book!!!.......2007-01-09
Used this for our caribbean cruise. Found this book to be very helpful!!!! Love the input!!! Helped us out at ports!!!!
Very Helpful Cruise Guide.......2000-07-09
This book provides a great guide for people on cruise ships that port in any of the following islands: Antigua, Barbados, Dominica, Genada, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Puerto Rico, St. Kitts, Nevis, St Lucia, St. Maarten / St. Martin, St. Thomas / St. John. It gives you lots of ideas on things that will not be offered by the cruise line as well as self guided tours, shopping info, beach info and much more.
Extremely Helpful!!.......1999-10-15
I bought this book as a reference to use on my cruise on the Carnival Fascination and it was extremely helpful. It gives detailed information on all the islands that cruise ships call to on both the Windward and Leeward side (no info on Mexico, Jamaica, Caymens... ONLY WINDWARD and LEEWARD!!). They actually provide you with other activities you can do on the islands that the ships don't even tell you about. My wif and I went horseback riding on Orient Beach in St. Maarten. The ship has no mention of this, but the book tells you how much, where to call, and how to get there. We were able to do several islands on our own with help from this book. And you can save a lot of money when you avois the ships expensive excursions. A must for anybody sailing the Windward and Leeward islands!!!
Incomplete.......1999-07-19
western caribbean cruisers beware! There is not one mention of Jamaica, The Caymans or Cozumel.

PERFECTION.......2007-06-13
Book arrived quickly and in perfect condition.
Praise from a Dummy.......2007-03-23
I really needed this book....a well-organized, concise how-to reference guide for fundraising dummies! It provides essential knowledge and a broad overview of how to organize, how to proceed, and how to avoid problems. I have now ordered several copies for board members. If you are a fundraising novice with limited time or just getting started and want a handy desktop reference, I would strongly recommend this book.
EXCELENT.......2006-06-27
I used to work for the Capital Network Libraries of my city. I was in charge of making fundraising strategies and projects. This book HELPED a lot. It will help you from making a project through other topics as getting to know your donor, cultivating major givers and writing winning grant proposals.
Fund Raising for Dummies.......2005-12-17
All is good in this simplified examination of fund raising--certainly excellent for the novice. I do challenge, however, the single comment on page 180, that appeal letters should be "short and sweet." To get nominal response, this may be true, but for those wanting to impact donors on an emotional level, a comprehensive "case for support" (as displayed in well-written appeals), letters must be at least three pages, four being even better. Readership is not the point--it's response that counts and all research from longer letters prove that length is best. Please be careful about "Gimmicks" in appeal letters. Be honest, tell the story of one person, touch the heart of readers, and watch the funds pour in.
Building blocks.......2005-10-02
"Fundraising for Dummies" will not give you a Masters degree in Non-profit Management, but it does contain EXTREMELY valuable and assorted information all under one cover that used to take quite a bit of research and pavement pounding to track down. Save that pavement pounding and learn what types of fundraising are going to work the best for you, and how best to employ them. Like the title states, this book is geared for folks who may not have any previous experience with fundraising, or may need a refresher on old standbys and new avenues.
There are many avenues available to organizations now, and this book breaks each down for its strengths and weaknesses, as well as how to employ them, many of which many folks may not have even considered to be viable. Everything from bake sales to preparing for and writing grant proposals, as well as everything in the middle, can be found in the chapters of "Fundraising for Dummies".
Whether you are looking to buy new little league uniforms, set-up an online donation portal for a local community center, or are pursuing grants for a national level non-profit, this book can substantially help you understand where to start, how to evaluate which forms of fundraising will work best for you, what leg-work needs to be done before you can hit the ground running, how to gauge what aspects your team can handle and what aspects you may need to hire a prefessional to handle, fundraising ethics, and what follow-up you need to do AFTER the fundraising to keep donors "writing checks" for long term endeavors. The writing style is straight forward, accessible and quite enjoyable, without talking over/down-to the reader. A very worthwhile investment for the return-potential!

Guinea Pigs: As A Hobby (Save Our Planet series).......1997-08-06
Run of the mill guinea pig book--it's more of a picture book than an INFORMATION book. It is more appropriate for pre-teens than for all ages, as it is billed as. The text is downright murky at times --if your guinea pig is ill or you don't know what Piggy's behavior means, you won't find that information here. However, the sections on food are very good--what to feed and what NOT to feed--and save the book from being a total loss. Also, the author has some negative personal opinions about Peruvians and Agouti guinea pigs that will DEFINATELY offend those of you who own/breed these WONDERFUL breeds of guinea pigs. (Can you tell I have a definate opinion here?)It's odd to note that on one page she will condem the breeding of Peruvians (because the long hair obscures eyesight and mobility) and yet on another page recommend selling guinea pigs as LAB ANIMALS. Huh? Continuity between the photograph captions and what the text is talking about is also a problem...sometimes you think the captions are for a different book. BUT if you have a kid thinking about getting a guinea pig, the basics are pretty much covered, the section on feeding is very good and the photos can be killer cute...that's all it takes, sometimes

interesting.......2007-06-13
I got this book from the library and I am not sure, if I am going to buy it. These project are not to my taste at all, but the author does show some interesting techniques that I was not familiar with. The faux tortoise shell pattern does not look like tortoise at all, but it is an interesting and attractive pattern that I would consider using for various projects. Her Mokume Gane construction is the simplest I have seen so far. The faux faberge pill box is one of her more attractive ideas and this is the first time I have seen embossing powder used as an enamel-like glaze. All in all, as with her other book "Polymer Clay Extravaganza", I was intrigued with the techniques, but not really interested in any of the the projects she presented. Some items were pretty good, just not my style - others were simply cheap and cheesy looking.
Great Book!!.......2005-12-04
If you're new to polymer clay, this book is a great way to begin learning more advanced techniques. The step-by-step instructions with pictures make "claying" easy. The photography is wonderful! I made presents for friends and they just LOVED them! Thanks, Lisa!! Keep 'em coming!!
Excellent Elegance.......2004-10-11
Lisa's new book is excellent, in my view. The instructions and photos for the upscale gifts are well laid out and easy to follow. She offers 20 projects from purses to watches to decorating ideas that are all new and fresh. It speaks to her diverse creativity which she so generously shares.
It is a book for both "newbies" and more experienced clayers. I highly recommend it.
New ways to use a great medium.......2004-10-05
Lisa shows how to take your clay to another level, using it on watches, clocks, purses and other items. Her instructions are clear, the photos show great detail and are very inspiring. I would definitely recommend this book for beginners and advanced clayers alike, as there are items for all levels.

Whether you are already a parent or just suspect you will be one someday, I'm Okay, You're a Brat is sure to change your perceptions about the responsibility. With individual chapters devoted to topics such as full-time parenting, breastfeeding, custody in case of divorce, and remaining childfree, the realism presented will shatter any remaining illusions you may be harboring. Determined to explode the myth of continually joyous parenting, author Susan Jeffers replaces it with a more realistic view of the life changes and emotional difficulties associated with such a long term and essentially thankless task. Jeffers accomplishes this by emphasizing the difference between loving your children and actually enjoying parenting them, a difference that is rarely examined in this age of guilty, overworked parents.
Peppered with quotes from parents, researchers, and her earlier works (Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway and End the Struggle and Dance with Life), the first chapters may come as a bit of a shock to parents not able to freely admit to the daily struggle of parenting--while there are most definitely rewards, who among us enjoys being spit up on? Where's the fun in attending soccer matches when soccer bores you to tears? Who loves parenting when the child just dented the new car and broke curfew? Jeffers insists it's time to openly talk about the downside of parenting--the loss of privacy, lack of sleep, financial struggles, and the instantaneous guilt felt by the majority of parents whenever they attempt to express these downer feelings. Often funny, and always thought provoking, you'll feel quickly reassured that you are not a bad parent for feeling this way--in fact, by freeing yourself from the good/bad parent complex, you may ultimately find greater personal fulfillment both as an individual and as a parent. --Jill Lightner
Book Description
In this refreshingly honest book, bestselling author Dr. Susan Jeffers breaks the conspiracy of silence, pulling no punches when she details how difficult parenthood can be. With humor and compassion she uncovers the guilt traps set for parents by many child-care experts. She questions the myths and half-truths that make parents feel inadequate and offers valuable survival tools for those whose kids are driving them crazy.
Customer Reviews:
A must read for anyone who wants children.......2007-06-06
Finally an honest no holds barred view of what it's like to raise a child.
I think every one should read this book before they decide to have children
Important.......2007-05-28
This book needed to be written. Come on, someone had to be honest about children. Way too many young women like me will not know what they are getting into unless they read this book. If you read this book and you still want to have kids, you are ready and will make a good parent! If not, like she says, leave your mark by being a blessing to other people who are already alive.
Glad I read it, but don't agree with her.......2006-07-17
I found it helpful to read that it is normal to feel frustrated, lonely, stressed, and daunted by the process of parenting. However, I thought the book was very negative and depressing. While kids can be difficult, they can also be truly wonderful. They have shown me what love really is. (And rage, of course.) :-)
If I "knew then what I knew now" about how difficult parenting would be, I may not have had the courage to do it, but I am so glad I did. (My kids are 6, 3, and not-yet-born.)
I was also put off by her negative attitude about breastfeeding. The reasons she lists why breast is not always best are very flawed; babies whose mothers have HIV in developing countries have a higher risk from dying of being formula-fed than from dying of AIDS, and if a mother has bleeding, scabbed nipples, she needs appropriate health care (such as a lactation consultant), not to be told she shouldn't breastfeed. I agree that mothers have the right to feed their babies as they see fit, but I think that statement could be made without bashing breastfeeding, which is a healthy, beautiful thing to do.
All in all, I think her message is good -- that you can love your kids and really dislike parenting -- but her writing is just too negative. And I do disagree that parents have so little control over how their kids behave. When I really step up to the plate and discipline/teach my children, their behavior really improves and makes them easier to be around. And that is part of what I signed up for. Putting my kids' needs as a high priority has helped me grow up.
kind of anti-parenting but an interesting and important read.......2006-05-09
This book seems to largely (1) make a case against becoming a parent for many people and (2) validate parents' negative feelings and frustration with the changes that come from becoming a parent. It's interesting and important because for those of us new parents who sometimes feel we're going crazy from the lack of personal space, time and sleep, it's validating to know that we're not alone and not crazy. And it makes one think about the choices one might make in the future and that one has made, and why, and next steps. While I don't regret becoming a parent (to the contrary), I had NO idea what I was getting myself into - and the author validates those feelings. She is definitely negative toward parenting (especially for people who get into it for the wrong reasons - and she definitely seems to think many or most of the usual reasons are the wrong reasons) but it's a good counterpoint to the saccarine "I love everything about being a parent" approach that doesn't ring true when one is exhausted and burned out. Definitely an important book, but a negative one and only one viewpoint. I recommend it to people considering becoming parents (but read it with a grain of salt) and those parents who need to feel a little better about their frustrations before trucking ahead.
Horrible.......2006-01-16
Read this book only if you have a high tolerance for adults who behave like selfish brats. The author is correct - they should never have children! More of an anti-parenting handbook and should be categorized as so. Not even going to donate this one.
Book Description
Does every parent consistently enjoy the sacrifices of parenting? Of course they can—and do. But until now no one has openly discussed the downside of parenting.
As people of every age listen to Jeffers’ audiobook, you will hear a loud, collective sigh of relief reverberating throughout the western world!
In this honest and direct program, bestselling author Dr. Susan Jeffers breaks the “conspiracy of silence” and pulls no punches when detailing just how difficult parenthood can be. With humor and compassion, she reveals the insidious guilt that some child-care experts cause parents to feel. She questions the myths and half-truths that make parents feel inadequate and offers valuable survival tools to cope with it all. Jeffers lets us know that it’s okay to be frustrated with parenthood—that it isn’t always the blissful experience we’re led to believe it is.
I’m Okay...You’re a Brat! explains:
• why parenthood is a joy for some and a nightmare
for others
• why our relationship with our spouse often suffers
when children enter the picture
• how we can love our kids yet hate parenthood
• how we can have great fulfillment in life with—or
without children
Customer Reviews:
The more prepared you are, the better.......2001-03-06
Though I agree with the previous readers that this book is negative, I believe that was the author's intention exactly. Positive images abound in the media on how wonderful children are, and that the only negative are dirty diapers and teen angst. As far as I a concerned, this is the BEST book on children and parenting that I have ever read. People are pushed into being parents by their family and by society, and for some it is a shock as to how demanding and how destructive a third wheel could be to their relationship and their lives - but armed with the knowledge that this WILL happen to every parent, one is prepared for the worst. And by preparing for the worst, you free yourself to enjoy the best that parenting has to offer.
One other point the author tries to make is that parenting advice is a fad - and gives examples of contradictory advice given to parents over the years. Her point is empowering - that you are the best judge for what is right for your children and family, and to ignore those who would try to guilt you into doing something you feel is wrong.
I send this book as a congratulations present to every newly pregnant couple I know, and have reccomended it to everyone else. Yes, it may convince some people that they aren't meant to have children, but if reading one negative (read truthful) book causes them to make this decision, then they probably aren't ready to be a parent yet anyway.
A book for the disillusioned.......2001-01-12
As the mother of a 6 month old, I agree with some of the points made in Jeffer's book. I do believe that our culture is too child-centered, and that mothers are made to feel guilty if they don't wish to be with their children 24/7. However, I think that the book is too whiny and negative about child-rearing. Yes, children can be very self-centered and demanding, but that's the way children always have been. I think that too many people go into parenthood thinking that it's like the movies and TV, and when they discover the hard reality, they become frustrated and angry at their kids. I will be the first to admit that having a baby has made my life more difficult. I don't complain much, though, because that's what I expected after observing friends and family with their children. My marriage has changed, but my husband and I expected that, too. Just what is Jeffers trying to accomplish with her book? She says she wants to destroy "the mad myths about parenthood", but after reading her rants about kids on page after page, I wonder if she just wants to persuade people to remain childless. I think her views are egocentric- she didn't enjoy child rearing, so most other people must feel the same way about their offspring, but are too ashamed to admit because of societal taboos. As for her opinion that people who love raising children have special LBP (love being a parent) genes, I respectfully disagree- enjoying parenthood is about attitude, not biology. I think that Jeffer's book will reasonate mostly with people who need affirmation for their decision to remain childless or by those who have become disillusioned because because they over-idealized parenthood.
Can You Get Anymore Negative?.......2000-08-23
Being a new mother who knows too many peers with rude and unruly children, I unwittingly picked up this book thinking it would help me to postively discipline my child. If only the back cover stated what it really is about- (how terrible children are); rather it had glowing reviews from the authors' peers. Luckily, each page has an indented paragraph- a highlight of sorts, so it didn't take me long to get through it. I have never read such a lop-sided view of parenting, and I'm very sad to see it come from such an educated and influential person. Needless to say, it was a very depressing and discouraging read. I'm no Pollyanna, nor am I very religious, but this author needs to take a chill pill and appreciate the absolute miracles that are our children for better and for worse. All I could think of was her poor children and daughters-in-laws. Yes, children can be very challenging, but this negative spin was really over the top.
A KID AND A PARENT BASHER!.......2000-07-27
Many desperate and frazzled parents would certainly welcome this book with open arms. I thought it sounded like an excuse to bash and dump on childen. Naturally a child cannot give or show the same generosity that a parent can. The relationship is not equal. Naturally allowances have to be made for the needs of children as they cannot care for themselves. What an angry, toxic dumping ground this book is to many groups -- parents, would be parents, praying-to-become parents and children. After reading this Book of Wrath, one wonders who ISN'T included in the free=for all bashing? If I could have given this book a zero star rating, I would have. Don't waste your money or your time on it.

Book Description
This is the first modern study of William Waynflete, powerful and influential bishop of Winchester from 1447 to 1486. Waynflete was one of the great educationalists and patrons of learning of late medieval England, and his career was dominated by an interest in education. He played a leading role in some of the changes which transformed education in 15th-century England: the emergence in Oxford and Cambridge of new and larger colleges; the influence of continental humanist ideas which reshaped English thought; the introduction of the teaching of Greek; the composition of new grammars; and the introduction of printing as a means of disseminating the new learning. Through her examination of Waynflete's career, Davis challenges the received view of the gangrenous corruption of the medieval church and instead supports recent research which suggests the truth to have been far more complex. As this biography records, Waynflete himself was politically linked to Henry VI and the Lancastrian administration and most of his time was spent in southern England, However, he retained close links with his native Lincolnshire, and his committments there are also fully considered.VIRGINIA DAVIS is lecturer in history at Queen Mary and Westfield College, University of London.
