An easy look at Blue Ridge flora, fauna and folk life.......2000-08-17
Ron Fisher wrote this "bookazine" in a very plain, homespun style which causes one to learn tons of information about people and places of the Blue Ridge without realizing it. There was too-scant mention of the region's physiography and natural history; however, once I got far enough inside to notice that, I was already sufficiently captivated by the tales of human history and folklore that the book was well worth finishing. Like Fisher, I cruised the Blue Ridge Parkway on a cool, misty weekday; and he captured the peaceful mood perfectly in his description of that jaunt. Whether from watching a Salem Buccaneers minor league game, interviewing Foxfire writers, or recording the tales of an elderly wood whittler, the hundreds of micro-stories of Blue Ridge folk life come out well done. Of course, as is the Geographic's gold standard, the photography is splendid. Any high school or college student writing about the Appalachian way of life must have this work in his reference list. And I strongly recommend this book for anyone planning a driving trip (off the interstates!) through western Virginia, western North Carolina, eastern Tennessee or far northern Georgia.

I am from the Blue Ridge Mountains and I think this magazine was great. It has alot of information about the people, parks and places of the Blue Ridge. There are tons of pictures and suggestions of places to visit. READ IT!

Yes it is expensive but it has been a worthwhile investment. Certainly nuch better than listening to the pundits on TV who have their own opinions. This title is no longer available from the publisher. Over 30 awesome new trading strategies never released to the public before - for options, futures and equities traders. Connors best book.......2004-01-27
This is definitely Connors best book. I have most, but this one puts a lot of Connors best strategies into one book.
Connors has made his money from these trading strategies. Like a previous reviewer pointed out, these strategies don't usually produce home runs -- mostly singles and doubles. But I think that makes these strategies more realistic in the world of trading. Anyone who is selling strategies with triple-digit retuns should be avoided like the plague.
Beware of this Overpriced book.......2003-08-24
I have to repeat here what I said in reviewing another (ridiculously overpriced) Connors book ["Street Smarts"]. The only "advanced" strategy Larry Connors knows well is how to make money out of the miriads of hopeful wannabes that overpay for his expensive books and for his TradingMarkets.com web site, which costs more than a thousand dollars per year and is just a hook to get the members to buy more overpriced "trading services", $5,000.00 tutorials, "ultimate" courses, fantastic techniques, books, etc., etc. Just think of this before you dish out your money to this guy: if he knew any "advanced" Trading strategies to make real money he wouldn't be peddling his overpriced merchandise for a living. Wouldn't it be nicer to live as a rich trader, trading from your yatch your great advanced strategies for millions, instead of busting your rear running a Web site in downtown LA to trap yet another fool who thinks that perhaps this new advisory service will "make him" money? Let Connors first show that he can make millions trading before he calls his strategies "advanced". Obviously, they are just not advanced enough to make him rich --though he will be soon, if you pay him ...for this mostly charts collection of silly trading advice. If you still feel you have to learn the basics from the popular self-appointed "gurus", do it at least with a minimal expense.
I like Connors' style.......2001-11-10
I like Connors' brevity. He doesn't try to wow you with big mathematical theorems, he just gives you common sense explanations of why he markets work the way they do and gives you the zing-bang-boom version on how to take advantage of these market conditions. Not much thought is needed once you are set-up but, does it need to be complex to work? My only problem is getting out with my profits intact. I read the 2-for-1 strategy but mentally I can't execute. Need more discipline. I'm checking out Mark Douglas' book for that part. I am still reading it but it looks good so far.

This book is for anxious traders who think the found the get rich quick book. 250 page book in 16 font size, half of it are charts for stocks that worked using his system. Again no testing is done. Mostly about Wilder ADX, DDI for day trading. If your day trading system is not working you may try this one. The best method is the simplist method. And the high priced books are not the best books.

I went to a local wood hobby shop and looked at several carving/whittling books. This one looked good so I bought it on ebay and saved some $s.
I'm a total novice, so this book was perfect. Full of photographs that explain every step. No previous experience necessary. Tip: I've managed to cut myself a few times so I'm wearing gloves until my technique improves. A very relaxing pastime. Highly recommended. If you are wondering which beginners book to buy then buy this.

Although I can't say the book is bad, it was not what I was expecting.
I was expecting a manual that would allow me to pick up my pocket knife and start working on my first piece :-)
Having said that, the book does give a nice general overview of the subject of whittling.

This book has very detailed instructions accompanied by step-by-step photographs. It teaches you how to carve several different things (spoons, forks, knives, stick figures, flowers, and walking sticks among them) from twigs.

This is the best book I've seen for Water Garden plants. The detailed discription of the vast veriaty of plants is incredable. I would recommend this book to be the first and perhaps the only book you'll need for choosing your plants for your pond or water garden.
What every water gardener needs if they grow water plants!.......2000-03-21
This is a truly excellent book. For those of you who have already purchased water garden books, you know how frustrating it is when they don't give any detail about the plants they use, ("for a small container garden, use a dwarf water lily..."), but is that beautiful Panama Pacific water lily a dwarf, is it medium, or large? This book will give you those details. It tells you about the foibles of water plants, (did you know that some water lilies will melt in too much heat?) It includes basics on many different varieties of water plants, some basics of planting aquatic plants in the water garden and some very bare-bones on putting fish into a water garden, (but that's not what it is designed for). I am giving it 4 out of 5 stars, because they did not consistently include the common names in the index, even to reference back to the latin name. You can find water lily, which refers you to Nymphaea, but you can't find hair grass except under Eleocharis. If you are looking for a book that covers a wide variety of aquatic plants, I highly recommend this one.

In this memoir Morris Wyszogrod recounts his experiences from the time of the Nazi invasion of Poland to the liberation of the Theresienstadt concentration camp in 1945. He describes in detail the time he spent in the Warsaw Ghetto; his work as an artist for various Luftwaffe personnel at the Warsaw military airport; his experiences at the Budzyn concentration camp, where he was assigned to decorate the living quarters of the SS and to produce drawings at an orgiastic Oktoberfest; his removal to Plaszow, where he was put to work digging up mass graves and burning the bodies to eliminate the evidence of Nazi war crimes; his witnessing of the firebombing of Dresden in February 1945; and his subsequent liberation at Theresienstadt by the Red Army in May 1945. Just as an artist may register what she or he sees against a sensitive visual and moral template, so Wyszogrod doubly registered what he saw and felt, both in his drawings and in his memories.

Sensitivity and Brutality Combine For a Stunning Remembrance.......1999-12-26
This review is hardly unbiased. The author, Morris Wysogrod, a commerical artist by trade, is my cousin and quite truly, a hero of mine. Whenever I visit my Cousin Morris' apartment, I am greeted as soon as I step off the elevator with genuine warmth and enthusiasm. His smile,unbreaking and his conversation,always scintillating, I am amazed at his sincerity and good nature despite what he has witnessed and experienced as a Holocaust survivor.
His warmth and love for his fellow man is evident throughout his memoir. Morris provides a vivid look at pre-war Poland and the lives that were stolen from our families. And, much as he greets his guests with genuine warmth and affection today, he treats each character in his book with similar respect and reverence.
His memory is outstanding as he remembers the many personalities and every day people of his Warsaw youth, and later in the death camps. His descriptions are detailed and he suceeds in bringing out the special qualities of each character. This is so important because more often than not, the people he describes with such affection will soon be dead at the hands of the Nazis. Much of Holocaust literature refers to the millions who were massacred. Morris didn't know the millions but he pays beautiful homage to the hundreds who crossed his path.
From homage to carnage, Morris's story takes us into the Nazi occupation and his incarceration in several death camps. Similar to his skills in painting a picture of his pre-war youth, he is equally and shockingly vivid in his memories of the camps. The brutality, anguish, and sheer inhumanity he witnessed is brought to life as only a man of his artistic talents can do.
And in the midst of the brutality, there is the friendships, the shared moments, and the appreciation for his fellow prisoners that is necessary for the reader to grasp onto so that he or she may continue with the chilling chronicle of Morris' survival.
A Brush With Death has warmth, beauty and brutality. It is one of the many stories of the Holocaust experience, and one which I am confident will provide a unique perspective to the most horrific period in recorded history.

As a fellow survivor of the Warsaw Ghetto and the Budzyn concentration camp, I can attest the accuracy of the author's harrowing descriptions of his experiences.
I am amazed at the author's ability to recall so many details. He writes from the heart, without artifice. His spare drawings provide haunting illustrations of what words can't always describe on their own.
Read this book. You will be moved.
