Book Description
The floating exchange rate environment has created a need for banks and their corporate customers to arrange their currency exposure on an active and commercial basis. This book addresses current practice and future issues and is written for both new entrants into the markets and for seasoned professionals seeking to refresh or broaden their knowledge. The book covers issues such as: A radical new settlement system for FX will be going live in the 3rd quarter - named continuous linked settlement or CLS for short, Foreign Exchange Portals Atriax and FXAII, Electronic Broking EBS, The increased profile of the spreadbetting agencies in the FX markets e.g. IG Index, Emerging Markets, and New Exotic Currency Options.
Customer Reviews:
The one FX book to grab when you need to know it all!.......2006-04-21
After reading almost 50 books on the Forex Market and trading the markets live for a few years, I decided that Ms. Taylor's Mastering Foreign Exchange and Currency Options: A Practical Guide to the New Marketplace is the one Forex Book I would take with me if forced to select one. Why? Because it is the only book to somehow comprehensively cover topics as diverse as Currenex, the application of Technical Analysis to FX, Buy Side vs. Sell Side FX Dealer dynamics, Corporate Treasury Hedging, and of course a fairly essential history of both the economics of foreign exchange and the fundamentals relevant to trading it. The book is only 380 pages and most certainly does meet the needs of entry level traders. Intermediate traders or professionals will certainly find topics covered which prompt an occasional: " I didn't know that !". Again, Ms. Taylor has given us the essentials of both the theoretical dimensions of Foreign Exchange pricing both Spot, Futures, and Options AND the nitty, gritty incidentals of how the technology works to make the market happen. What most books on Forex fail to do - this book does achieve. Few Forex primers squarely place Spot Forex into the Inter-Bank context where it belongs. Few books adequately integrate information about Corporate Treasury concerns with the nature of Central Bank Intervention. Trading Forex on the Retail level without understanding CLS or the Flow Information available through Currenex is like Racing Nascar without knowing how to change a tire. Ms. Taylor's book achieves this through the gift of being able to simplify, coordinate, and render the essential of a topic without loss of rigor or information. Usually books achieving this are a dense read, but this book is not - and that is the work of a great teacher.
An ok book but not for the beginner.......2005-06-02
This book has a well written chapter on the economics of foreign exchange. This books' chapters on e-foreign exchange and innovations in e-fx are rather useless for the beginner and also outdated.
The chapters on technical analysis and the individual trainer are short and to the point. It's good information but not enough 'meat' to assist the individual to make better trades. More or the same information can be found in other books that also explain in more details.
There are several chapters that are mainly written for large institutional traders which I didnt find very useful other than getting a 'birds-eye' view from their position.
In my opinion, this book is more for intermediate traders but I wouldn't recommend it to beginners.

Book Description
Cats may be an enigma to us, but we are also a mystery to them. They might want to know why, for instance, we keep them in the house, feed them strange foods, scold them for scratching the furniture, and reject their proud offerings of freshly killed birds and mice. Veterinarian Bruce Fogle, who is an expert in cat and cat-owner behavior, explains in this question-and-answer guide why cat owners do what they do, why cats react in the way they do, and how humans and felines can better understand each other. He also looks at why we are so content to live with the world's most efficient small land predator, revealing the reasons to be more complicated and more interesting than we might imagine.
Customer Reviews:

Book Description
Whether there is a fire burning or not, there is something about a fireplace that gives a room warmth. The mantel we build around the fireplace becomes a focal point of decorating, bringing to all that surrounds a sense of elegance. In this new book Steve Penberthy and Gary Jones help the homeowner build a classic fireplace from stock materials and moldings and tools found in the most basic of workshops. From measurement to the finished product, they take the reader through the complete process. Every step is illustrated with a color photograph and a concise instruction. In the back are drawings and photographs of many design variations that can be made using the same building techniques. This is the, without a doubt, the best book ever published on building mantels and will be a welcome addition to the woodworker's library., 200+ color photos & line drawings, 8 1/2" x 11"
Customer Reviews:
Great book for new woodworkers.......2004-09-26
If you are fairly new to woodworking and need a mantle, this is the book for you. I just finished our mantle and it looks great. All the materials used in the book can be found at Lowes or Home Depot and the entire mantle and surround cost me around $85. It does call for a table saw, biscuit joiner, brad nailer and miter saw, but if you are wanting to get serious about building, you will need these tools anyway. This book will lead you through every step so there are no questions. Save yourself $200-300 and buy this book and build it yourself!
Great book but dont order via the market place.......2002-09-10
This is a very good book with some basic designs. If you are a beginning woodworker or have some basic tools, you can build one of these. As pointed out, the design is simple, but it is flexible and you can customize your own design. I build a surround from stain grade birch with pine trim and moulding. It was finally painted white and primed. We are very happy. I give the book 4 stars, ...
Step-by-step, but not much variety.......2000-02-22
Great instructional book for building a traditional style fireplace surround (title a bit misleading - the mantel is only the shelf above a fireplace - the surround is the mantel, columns, etc.) Limited, though in that it only covers one style surround with different variations.
If you like the style of fireplace surround on the cover of the book, then buy it. It steps you through building that style in "great" detail.
building the classic mantel.......1999-03-21
this book cleared up a lot of questions i had about building a mantel.written clearly so that most anyone could understand the sequence to get a very professional job.this was money well spent.
Detailed Pictures every step of the way.......1998-09-04
We just completed our fireplace mantle construction using the techniques outlined in this book, and I must say I'm thrilled with the outcome. A detailed layout guideline, what to measure and how, and what to buy made the project come together more effectively. Although a fairly complete woodworking shop will be needed to complete your project, the instructions and closeup pictures will aid even a novice in reaching the ultimate goal of an attractive centerpiece of the home to be admired for years to come.
Customer Reviews:
Lovely, on beyond the coffee table!.......2006-06-07
When this book arrived to our all-green-thumbs and "plays with dirt" T-shirt household, I thought it would make a lovely coffee table book: more about ideas, and getting to see what other folks are doing, and not so much a how-to book.
Well, it is all of those things, and a reminder that the inspirational look at this gorgeous thing these folks did sorts of books really are just that: inspiration to get out in one's own garden and start digging, and making the green space thrive. Gardens are not just for market veggies, or even just for table flowers; they restore the soul and feed all of one's senses, and that's echoed beautifully in this book, through the four seasons.
As good a gift for someone who doesn't have room or ability to garden, as for those who are able to peruse its pages and then go plan the current year's new corner, or item, in their own gardens.
Thank you, Elizabeth Murray, for this wonderful book, and for showing us more of some gardens we'd love to see in person some day!
A great gardening book!.......2000-06-12
I happened upon this book at a swap meet and purchased it on a whim. It was beautiful and I thought it would make a great "coffee table" book, if anything. I opened it and couldn't put it down! There are 4 "chapters", one for each season. I especially liked the section of the book describing Murray's favorite gardens. I can't tell you how many extra hours a week I've spent in my own garden because of this book. It worked, Elizabeth! Thank you.
Inspiring.......2000-03-15
I especially liked the "coverage" and photos of the inner-city urban gardens projects in Philadelphia. Ethiopian angels! This book looks at "sacred gardens", old and new, around the world. Also looks at labyrinths and the work of Findhorn and Perelandra, among other things. A beautiful book.

Hailed by parents and educators, Your Child’s Growing Mind is a window into the fascinating process of brain development and learning. It looks at the roots of emotion, intelligence, and creativity, translating the most current scientific research into practical suggestions for parents and teachers.
Dr. Healy also addresses academic learning, offering countless suggestions for how parents can help without pushing. She explains the building blocks of reading, writing, spelling, and mathematics and shows how to help youngsters of all ages develop motivation, attention, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
Using the science of childhood development, she also examines today’s hot issues, including learning disabilities, ADHD, influences of electronic media, and the hazards of forced early learning. From infancy to adolescence, this is the perfect guide to helping and enjoying a youngster’s mental, personal, and academic growth.
Customer Reviews:
Essential reading for parents of young children.......2007-09-07
This literally spells out what's going on in those little brains. Full of great advice on parenting and supporting young learners--and letting your child show YOU how they need to learn. I wish there'd been a bit more about the developing adolescent brain. You can't start reading this book too early.
If You Have Children, You Must Read This Book.......2006-02-24
I appreciated the valuable information about brain development, how children learn, how we can help them, what real education and learning are all about, and the things we do that hinder brain development.
I assigned it to my teens for part of the homeschooling program, and they enjoyed it so much they recommend it to friends, too.
Jane Healy writes well, and she makes a lot of sense. Reading this book also helped us understand why one of our children has some of the learning issues she has. I just can't recommend it highly enough.
IT IS A MUST READ!!!.......2005-07-16
THIS IS A GREAT BOOK. All my childhood development classes requires me to read this. I WOULD HAVE TOTALLY AGREE WITH MY PROFs. PARENTS, TEACHER, and anyone who have to interact with children must get this book. READ THIS & YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!
A Classic for Parents and Teachers.......2005-05-27
I am the proud author of this new edition of Your Child's Growing Mind, which is completely revised and updated with all the newest brain research and the applications for teaching and parenting. I am only sorry that Amazon has not included all the fantastic reader comments that accompanied the book before the new edition came out--it is still the same great resource. Enjoy!

Customer Reviews:
Know Someone Who Is Expecting? Buy THIS BOOK!.......2002-11-27
Just ordered another 3 copies of Healy's book (1994 edition). This book was recommended in my doctorate program in education as a MUST HAVE for anyone who is expecting. The suggestions of how to build brain capacity and learning begin while a woman is pregnant, so I've purchased it for all female family members who are now expecting as well as those who have recently had babies. I've also purchased a copy for my elementary school's parent resource center. The information presented in Healy's book presents the transitions of the brain through the school years in a practical, easy to understand manner.
Great for parents of newborns AND older kids!.......2000-06-28
If you buy this book to learn about your baby, plan to hang on to it for many, many years. I have a newborn AND a 14-year-old. Although there was a lot of interesting information concerning my newborn, I learned even MORE about my older child! I really wish I had had this book a few years ago when she was struggling through sixth and seventh grades. I finally understand why she struggled! There were tips in this book that would have helped. This is a book I will try to reread at least once a year because the information is relevant to so many stages in your child's life. It is easy to read, enjoyable and useful. I especially like the bullet points of things to do at the end of each section.
Every parent should read this book!.......1999-03-16
It details in a clear, parent-friendly way the various developmental phases growing children go through and explains why it is so important that they be allowed to go through those phases. I wish this book had been available when my children were young! It makes an excellent gift to give to new parents.
A Must for Parents.......1997-07-27
This book is a must given the intense pressure on kids placed by parents and educators on the young nowadays. I have enthusiactically recommend this books to all my friends with young children. The topics on the development of the brains is definitely a good read for parents who are pushing their kids beyond their development stage. Beware that your kids may miss out on developments/experience that will be necessary in the later part of his/her life
Excellent, informative, useful book about child development........1996-05-22
This excellent and easily read book is a "must read" for parents. As a support group leader for 37 home schooling families, I recommend this book as a priority buy for the home library. It gives parents a realistic view of what children are and are not capable of at different stages in their developement. It helps us realize just what our children's capabilities are and how to maxamize our teaching.
Dr. Healy's writing style is very easy to read, informative and lively. The chapters are laid out in such a way as to make it easy to find any area of interest. For most of us, motivation is a subject we discuss often. Under "Tools for Learning," she lists "Motivation (pg.190)," and "Ingredients for Motivation (pg. 214). In each chapter, she outlines key information about the subject, for example "Raising Motivated Learners," and "Dealing with Motivation Problems." She gives anecdotal stories to underscore the information she presents, which makes it much easier for a layman to understand.
This book definitely impacted not only my teaching style, but bettered my relationship with my teenager. This is an important book to have in your home.

Customer Reviews:
interesting book.......2003-11-28
It is one of the nicest surprises in terms of Botticelli scholarship. The author (an illustrious Leonardo scholar) is trying to interpret a number of paintings on which there is already quite a lot of bibliography, and does a pretty good job. My only complaint is the fact that sometimes I wish he would deepen and extend his very interesting comments (the book has 128 pages and 72 illustrations, usually taking up the space of a page, so there is not a whole lot of text, and the fonts are pretty big). So, if you are looking for interesting theories concerning Botticelli's mythological paintings, than this is one of the books for you. If you're looking for books with nice pictures, there are better ones available (this one is smallish, and because of the format, although has nice details, the main pictures do not generally fit on a single page).
illuminating and engaging.......2003-01-12
After reading this book I went to the Uffizi and saw Botticelli in a new light. His writing leads you through the paintings as if you are unravelling a mystery, giving you insight that a modern viewer would otherwise never have. The book is both wonderfully concise and substantial, with details, illustrations, references to the cultural of some of the most beautiful and well-known paintings in the world.
Good book on Botticelli.......2000-05-19
This is a good book to start with to learn about Botticelli. It says it has 57 color images (72 total), but many are details of the same works, or related works by other artists. 6 most famous paintings are focused on. The text is pretty interesting, including some art history and explanations of those works. But the small size of the book (about 10 inches high), doesn't allow detailed reproductions. Basically, this is a great book to own if you would rather not pay (the money) for a more complete book, or if you prefer lighter reading. I found "Botticelli: Images of Love and Spring" a pleasant surprise.

Customer Reviews:
Pure and Simple a great book about the law!.......2000-01-10
The first amendment gives us the right to free speech and for the most part this is a fairly simple concept right? Well in 1994 in Massachusetts this became a complex legal issue that turned a simple parade into chaos.
Riveting from beginning to the very end, this 600-page fact filled legal expose on how our court system really works, is like nothing else you'll ever read. The authors take you on a journey from the state court right the steps of the highest court in the land.
Using actual trial transcripts and painstaking detail, the author's leave no stone unturned. I was simply amazed at how much information was packed into the book. I was simply astounded by the way the system works.
Law professors and students of law need to take and read this work. It is most likely the best book of the first amendment law. A great work in the legal field and a very good read - well done!
Well-writen First Amendment primer........1998-08-05
As an attorney, what I found most interesting about this book was the use of trial transcripts to help frame the debate on the larger First Amendment constitutional issues. The authors did a superb job of telling a complex story from beginning to end. I would recommend some of my old professors take a close look at this work, and consider using it in trial advocacy and constitutional law classes. I don't remember anything like this when I was at school, but can say it told me a lot more about how the judicial process works than I learned in the classroom.
Comprehensive and Informative.......1998-06-08
By far, this book tops all others on how our courts operate. The authors have given a detailed look at the legal system at every level, state and federal, and cover so much territory in so short a space that the book borders on being overwhelming. This is the definitive book on "process". Using rich citation to trial transcripts the authors show in meticulous detail how some judges try to unwrap constitutional guarantees to achieve what they think the law shoud be. I read three other works which aspired to this detail: "Out of Order", "Civil Action" and "Closed Chambers" and can state that none were as insightful as this. This is truly a remarkable work, and should be mandatory reading in every law school in this country.
