Book Description
The only practical travel guide on the subject ever published, this book provides useful and current information on haunted places--complete with addresses, instructions for finding sites, historical background on the place and region, what to look for when you get there, and what to expect once you've had an encounter.
Customer Reviews:
Buy it on sale.......2002-02-03
I bought this book for $1.97. It was worth the price I paid--not a penny more. It wasn't very helpful in finding the haunted places within. I agree with the others in lowly rating this book
Boring and Uninformative.......2002-01-06
Probably the worst book I've ever purchased on the Supernatural.
To say that the information on the ghosts themselves is brief would be an understatement.
If I just want to get directions to a place I'll buy an atlas.
Save your money.
Get out and meet a ghost!.......2000-07-28
Hans Holzer tells you where the ghosts are... just in case you might want to go out and socialize with the discarnate. Not all of the places are easy to explore, and my favorite haunted vacation get-away isn't listed, but he only lists those sights that he has verified as being the subject of unusual phenomena. Also, it covers the whole USA, Canada, and England.. so not everything can be local, but most states have places listed. I'm planning to visit at least two of the sights on my next road trip. In all, its a good reference book for those who wish to track down and photograph some ghosts, or those who just want the hair on the back of their necks to stand up during their next trip.
Ghostly Roadtripping.......2000-06-13
I have always wanted to go on a trip and base where I went on haunted houses and other various places that had some sort of haunting attaced to it. This book has been a guide on the trip that I have set up and plan to take this summer. Very in-depth and detailed.

Customer Reviews:
The hows, whys, and wherefores of employee ownership.......2002-10-08
Now in an fully updated third edition, The Entrepreneur's Guide To Equity Compensation from the Foundation for Enterprise Development provides an excellent and highly recommended introduction to the hows, whys, and wherefores of employee ownership, as well as how empowered employees can help build a cutting-edge, proactive organization. Individual chapters address both individual-based and company-wide stock plans, savings plans that can hold employer stocks, crucial issues that can interfere with success, and much, much more. A recommended primer for any employer, for The Entrepreneur's Guide To Equity Compensation costs far less than what an unwise stock options decision would impose upon a corporate bottom line!
AN EXCELLENT, CLEAR GUIDE TO EQUITY PLANS!.......2002-06-12
This excellent and clear explanation of approaches to equity plans, provides a guide to creating an employee ownership strategy. The book covers: stock grants; direct stock purchase programs; stock option plans; qualified employee stock purchase programs (ESPPs); employee stock ownership programs (ESOPs); 401(k) and other qualified retirement plans; nonqualified deferred compensation plans; stock appreciation rights and phantom plans; stock programs for American companies operating abroad; and the most suitable equity arrangement for various types of legal forms of companies. Explains the concept, pros and cons, and tax and cost implications. Viewing this work as a compensation consultant, I find it to be an outstanding reference, providing highly accessible explanations. Very highly recommended.
This is the best work of its kind on the subject........1999-08-23
I have used the Entrepreneur's Guide for several years. It is an excellent tool - comprehensive yet easy to understand and logically organized. It presents a very complex area in a clear fashion that goes a long way to helping the interested person decide on a general approach to equity compensation that will fit their needs and help reach their goals for a very reasonable cost. I recommend it to anyone considering exploring an equity compensation strategy of any kind.
A good practical overview of how stock compensation works.......1999-07-27
I found this quite useful as a concise reference to the legal and tax implications of various forms of stock compensation.
Terrible book.......1999-07-04
Terrible book and great disappointment. It's too much outlined with little elaberation. The authers just assume the readers already have great comprehensives how employee equity compenstion works and all the tax isses reated, such as section 1042. But for those who are knowledgable enough, then this book will be too much ABC. I'll return the book

Book Description
Based on a two-week course in woodworking fundamentals offered at the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship in Camden, Maine, this book takes a traditional approach to teaching, with the idea that learning basic skills is essential to craftsmanship. In the process, the book covers all the bases, from working with hand tools to cutting dovetails. Over 250 color photos and drawings and two complete projects a bench and a small cabinet are included.
Customer Reviews:
Great for beginners or for those new to hand tools.......2007-08-17
As everyone else has mentioned, this book contains wonderful introductions to the techniques and vocabulary of fine woodworking. In addition, it also can be a great introduction to the use of hand tools, for those who might be familiar with power tools and woodworking in general, but with no hand tool experience.
One of my favorite things about this book is that the author, Peter Korn, is not afraid to give recommendations for which tools to buy and which you can do without. He sometimes will even recommend a specific brand of tool, which is great since tools may all look the same even though they are most certainly not built the same.
Overall, a great purchase.
Amazon hasn't shipped my order yet!.......2007-03-30
Amazon solicited my review of this book. I'd really like to provide a review, but as they've taken over a month to actually ship my book, and well, haven't actually shipped it yet I've had a bit of trouble getting into the text. I have high hopes that it's a good, informative, and thorough text. I'll only be able to find that out when Amazon finally decides to actually send it my way. Gosh it was silly of them to ask me what I thought when they know full well I haven't got the thing yet.
Excellent for the beginner.......2007-02-10
I'm still fairly new to this, but I learned a great deal from this book about how to go about doing things the right way. I'm on my second read after attempting many of the different methods of joinery described. I recommend it to others just starting out!
More of a project book.......2007-02-09
This book is basically a collection of projects, and then explanations of the various techniques used for each step. Good if you want to make an end table, but not that useful overall. A better book to learn all the different woodworking techniques would be The Complete Manual of Woodworking by Albert Jackson, et. al., which contains everything this does (explained and illustrated much better), and much more.
Excellent woodworking course.......2007-01-31
I have to say I agree entirely with Jason T. Amsden's review. A lot of woodworking books focus on one or two skills and just brush over the rest, so as a novice woodworker, you are left to figure things out for yourself.
While this book isn't as good as a live, hands-on course would be, it is the next best thing.

nothing new.......2007-01-05
Although the author clearly thinks they have discovered something new and insightful, they offer minimal advice that any father doesn't already know. The fact that the author is a tennis pro and has the ability and personal skill to make it easy for his kids to take up the game makes this book irrelevant to most parents with normal jobs living in the suburbs. The author is clearly impressed with himself, which is annoying, especially because the good points he makes, could have been spelled out more succinctly and effectively in a couple pages. I would not waste your time with this one.
Change the way you raise your children.......2006-03-15
Reading this book was probably one of the best things that I did. In fact, I did eventually by another one as a gift to my friend. I could see lot of things which I have been doing wrong with my son. I learned to put less pressure on him to perform on the tennis court and get him to enjoy the sport more. In fact, it has improved his love for the sport and improve his mental strength as well. It is a must read for all parents.
A must read for all tennis parents and Coaches!.......2006-01-21
I just have to comment on the review written by R.D.H. It is obvious that this person is envious and jealous of Wayne Bryan's success with raising his sons to be great champions. I also personally know Wayne Bryan and he practices what he preaches. He and his wife Kathy, have raised two incredible sons to be great people and gracious champions! As a tennis parent and tennis enthusiest this book has helped me to be a positive force in my kids lives. I would recommend this book to ALL parents and coaches so they could be a positive force in their kids lives.
A very good guide for concerned parents.......2005-09-07
This is a very good book, and I have been recommending it to other parents, especially with children in competitive tennis. We tennis parents are rather all alone, and we need help. This books is comforting and is a great source of help. However, a reader should take care not take the book too seriously. For example, it is impossible to be positive and praise your child all the time w/o criticizing... there is a limit. Also, I wish Wayne gave more examples of "side door" to inspire. No book is perfect, but this is a great book for parents who want their children to be successful in life and become a champion!
Oh, please!.......2005-04-26
I didn't read the whole book as I started to gag on the second paragraph (where the author states how he is against pushing children to fulfill their parent's dreams). I've known Mr. Bryan most of my life. He's a tennis teacher and plays in a band. His boys had tennis rachets and guitars in their hands before they could walk. He has about as much expertise about raising children as my pet goldfish. He has succeeded in life because he was blessed with talented, intelligent boys and a wonderful grounded wife.
Book Description
Willem and Elaine de Kooning shared not only a tumultuous, on-again, off-again 'open' marriage, they also navigated a 1950s New York art scene at the center of an artistic revolution.
Customer Reviews:
who needs enemies?.......2002-11-21
This book is just chock-full of rumor and gossip, much of which is totally insubstantiated. Some of the 'facts' are just plain wrong. With friends like Lee Hall, who needs enemies? Do yourself a favor and if you do read this, read it with more than a few grains of salt. There are better stories about the New York School - John Myers' memoir comes to mind, for one.
An art-world exposý.......2000-08-17
Thank you, Cooper Square, for reissuing Hall's valuable book. Elaine and Bill deserves a wide-based readership. Biography readers interested in Elaine and/or Willem de Kooning in particular, or American artists of this century in general, will learn a great deal. Hall's friendship with Elaine lays the groundwork and is enhanced by her discussions with friends (and wannabee friends) of both painters--although after the fact some refused to acknowledge their participation. The author also brings long-delayed attention to Elaine's neglected painting--art that is very much her own, not the weaker shadow of her husband's work often suggested.
Perhaps this book's principal contribution, however, is its cool and calm expos of the "art world's" best-kept secret: that, at base, it is a fraud that has less to do with expression than financial gain. Readers get a clear, well-written, and easily believable picture of an artist's life during that time of near-mythical when hard drinkin', butch fightin', and tough paintin' were the mainstays of New York's boy-culture art scene of the 50s and into the 60s. The book provides a much-wanted description of why there's so little "there" there in the articles by the likes of Greenberg and Rosenberg. In light of their various affairs--both amorous and financial-one understands how these critics' and their cronies' small-scale star making paved a sort of on-ramp to the market-driven farce the art world is today.
By all means read Elaine and Bill. It is fascinating reading on many levels and, when all is said and done, provides a window--for some too clean and revealing a window--into the machinery driving the manufacture of art today.
Book Description
Examining the legal foundations of the war on terror, this book investigates the loss of the civil liberties of American citizens and legal immigrants. In a detailed look at bills such as the 1996 Antiterrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act, the USA Patriot Act, and the Homeland Security Act, and executive orders, it provides a comprehensive picture of the war on terror and explores the claimed victories by the Bush administration. Chronicling the major battles with Muslim charities, immigrants, lawyers, and "enemy combatants," this exposé reveals how the values and freedoms of all Americans are at risk or have already been destroyed. Also surveyed is the growing grassroots dissent by groups such as the ACLU and the resistance movement against the policies and major figures of the Bush administration.
Customer Reviews:
AFTER PATRIOT ACT II THIS REMAINS THE BOOK FOR EACH AMERICAN TO READ.......2006-08-04
WAtch the dissolution of our once great and honored BIll of RIghts. We must read this book and weep for our lost once great nation. It is time to take action now. IT is never too llate. Never surrender. Read this book.
Famously we americans do not know our own constitution. We have been reduced to honoring a tri-color military banner once used for positioning on battlefields. We do not know our own Consitution, anymore than most self-proclaimed religious people have studied the Bible. We are ignorant of our own great Bill of Rights, and when we hear for the first time the rights we have, we figure it must be some communist liberal document. It is the rights our forefathers fought and died for. IT is the rights we now have lost forever.
REad this book and weep, grieve, and act.
The War on Civil Liberties.......2004-08-26
I cannot think of a title for this review more clever and apt than Cassel's. If David Cole is the Samuel Adams of our time, then Elaine Cassel is the Mercy Otis Warren. This book takes on the herculean task of documenting the erosion of civil rights and liberties during the Bush/Ashcroft regime. To the extent that some topics about which she writes have been superseded by events (such as the Supreme Court's enemy combatant decisions, the 9/11 Commission Report, and the revelation of the government's torture memos), Cassel is the first to recognize that her subject matter is a moving target, with daily incursions that make up-to-the-minute comprehensiveness impossible. However, her book is still timely and current events only augment her point and serve as an "a fortiori" argument.
Not only does Cassel do a great job synethsizing the numerous instances in which we have surrendered liberty to purchase security, but she shows how this is a false tradeoff and offers real solutions, from staying informed to voting.
One can only hope that this book will become a victim of its own success, but we will have to wait until November to see. Meanwhile, for a cogent and important argument about how our leaders have eagerly sacrificed civil liberties in the name of fighting terrorism -- and how this strategy is unnecessary, unwise and unconstitutional -- this book is a must-read.

CD rom problems.......2003-05-25
Once installed the CD provides several good mini-programs. However, the programs require a small fee to continue use after 30 days. The links provided to get this continued use do not work. If you want to call France there is a number you can call. I do not recommend installing the software from the book.

If you wish to learn the advanced features (or anything), this is simply the only book to buy. If you know nothing about computers then you may wish to consider some of the other books as well.

Great book! Everyone at the office borrows it from me.
The most complete Word 97 reference available.......2000-09-26
I selected this 1028 page black and blue behemoth off the shelf due to the quantity of in-formation it provided. Not only does the Special Edition come with more details about macros and Visual Basic, but it also came with an electronic version of the book in CD format. That does not mean that the book is not well laid out or is not easy to read, for it is both of these important things.
By comparison, I have a few of the Microsoft Press Quick Course books for learning new applications. I find them simple to read and easy to use, enjoyable tools that can get a new user one up and running fast. However, Microsoft's Running Word 97 was a disap-pointment to me as an advanced reference. It was as light and lively as their Quick Course books. But, it did not go into advance depth on many subjects - indeed, it seemed as if the text was merely lifted from the Help screens of Word itself. Running did not delve into macros and barely mentioned Visual Basic.
The Sybex competition was not much better. While it did not have the wide-open white spaces trimmed in blue like the Microsoft books, it too did not delve into advance topics.
The hefty Que book bills itself as the "most complete Word 97 reference available." In-deed it is.
Excellent Reference for a Complex Software.......2000-02-04
I provide advanced Word support for a company of over 1,000 people, and this book is an invaluable resource for me. I recommend this book to anyone needing to learn more than just surface knowledge on Word.

Book Description
Multi-cultural, cross-generational anthology of new political poetry of 144 living poets from every continent on Earth.
Customer Reviews:
A wonderful book........2000-03-11
I go to a somewhat conservative boarding school and lent this book to one of my writing teachers, who previously had said that there is no way that a political poem can be heartfelt. This book proves that notion wrong. Normally when people think about politics, they only think about who is running for office, but there is so much more than that in this book. This book should be available in every library in both the poetry and political section. This is an inspiring book that speaks not only to the mind, but to the heart.
Will Work for Peace is a triumph of poetic Davids........1999-10-30
As one of the poets featured in Will Work for Peace, one might expect me to be a bit biased, but nothing could be farther from the truth. Most poets work in a virtual vacuum, only tenuously connected to each other by the occasional workshop or shared membership in a 'poetry society'. When Brett Axel first approached me for a submission to an anthology he was considering, the names Marge Piercy, Lyn Lifshin, Moshe Bennaroch and so many others were abstractions to me as a fledgling poet. I knew these tremendous writers were 'out there' somewhere, beating down doors with their words and keeping a struggling artform alive. But to think that someday I would ever share a credit with these dynamic modern poets would be a pipe dream at best. It is through the sincere efforts of Brett Axel that many newer voices like mine have an extraordinary opportunity to appear with Pulitzer Prize winners and other poetic heavyweights. By way of an honest review, however, I will say this- not everything in this book will be to your particular liking. I myself came across some works that did not move me in the way the author may have intended. Some imagery can be raw and visceral, using shock value in place of craft at times. But to ignore those voices would be an even more shocking turn of events, so praise be to the editor for not sacrificing his vision to a senseless conformity. As Pete Seeger so aptly put it in his quote, trying to read all these poems at one time would be like trying 'to swallow Manhattan whole'. I say to you- buy this book, read this book, but understand that it's what you do after reading this book that will ultimately define who you could be. Poetry is alive and well, and lives in the blunt pages of Will Work for Peace.
Good work!.......1999-10-28
This book has been a long time coming. Brett Axel has really contributed to the poetry world in a way that is noticed, rather than swept into a corner. Many of the poems are good, some are great. Not all the poets are famous, but most of them contributed good work. I liked Amy Ouzoonian's and Brett's poems, as well as "Pinaud's Tonic" by Michael Pollick. I recommend reading that one. The only criticism I would have of the book is of the extreme scatalogical nature of some of the poems, which do not seem to fit with the theme of the anthology, and would, perhaps, be better in collections by that particular poet, rather than in such an anthology. But, overall, it is a great work.
Thumbs Up.......1999-09-20
Just amazing start to finish! I like the disregard for fame used in putting the book together. That great poems got in even if they were writtenby nobodys. Look at Roger Bonair-Agard's poem on page 74. Shortly after Will Work For Peace came out he won Slam Nationals, becoming Slam Champion of 1999, which will be getting him lots of offers. But Zeropanik Press didn't need to be told he was good by an award. They could tell by his writing! Good for them and good for all of us because Will Work For Peace is a literary milestone. It's a new standard for all future anthology editors to try to live up to. Thumbs up to Brett Axel and Thumbs up to Zeropanik Press for their guts and integrty.
Good reading.......1999-09-19
I liked this book. It has some of the best poetry I've ever seen in it. I especially liked the poems by Marge Piercy, Antler, Diane di Prima, and Susan Griffin, but all of it was good. I think there was only one or two that I didn't like at all and they were short. I'd give it 5 stars but the type was kind of small and I'd rather it be easier to read. My eyes aren't what they were when I was 30.
