Really is For Dummies.......2002-03-24

I am a long time user of Quicken (Quicken 98, 99,) and found this book giving fair instructions for first time users, but answered NONE of the questions I had regarding features missing in the new Quicken 2002....Very disappointing. May be ok for those who have never used Quicken AND can't follow the HELP from within the program.

Not just for dummies.......2002-03-04

I have struggled through various "For Dummies" books in the past, painfully slogging through the dry material. This book was full of lightness but without distracting from its main purpose: to help the Quicken User understand how to use the tools at our fingertips.

I recently upgraded to 2002, and this book filled in all the cracks for me in a very enjoyable way. Highly recommended.

I can't say enough good things about this book. It is simplicity at its best. The pages featured by Ms. Caveney are beautiful and inspiring, yet not extraordinarily difficult or requiring a million expensive embellishments.
This is a fabulous addition to my scrapbooking library, better than most!!!

I'm a big fan of Lisa's work and this book was outstanding. I love her simple, clean style. In addition to the great scrapbooking tips, you are treated to Lisa's beautiful photography throughout. Her travels make for such interesting pages! I think both the beginner and the advanced scrapper will find much inspiration in this book.

Scrapping with elegence.......2006-05-10

I loved this book, and not only because I prefer a clean, classic style over a cluttered look anyday. The author has an obvious eye for color coordination and combinations that are a step above most scrappers. Her work inspires me to focus on what really matters: content. I am often distracted, even dismayed, by overuse of embellishments in many popular designs these day. It's refreshing to see someone focusing on what's important and doing it well. If you like to scrapbook, but want to skip all the outlandish embellishments, this is the book for you. Again, I absolutely loved it!

Great for simple scrapbookers without kids.......2006-03-09

I love this book, and look at it a lot to get ideas. I am using bigger pictures now in my pages and I like the effect. I also really like seeing a scrapbooking book by someone without kids. A lot of scrapbooking focuses on kids growing up, so it's nice to see other page topics, particularly travel photos. I liked her photos a lot because they are like ones I take and scrapbook. Not artsy, close-up portrait shots, but everyday travel and event photos, made more interesting by simple scrapbooking pages. This book isn't for every scrapbooker, but if you like simple pages that focus on the pictures and the story behind them, this might be a book for you. It's particularly good for 20-somethings without kids.

I am not a scrapper that likes the 'overdone' and 'overembellished' look, but this goes to another extreme and the authors pictures ARE generally nothing to get that exited about. Also, when I pay for a book, I like there to be more reading content - what really disappointed me that they supplies used (what little there were) were not specified. When I see items I like (patterned paper, stickers, etc.), I like to know what brand they are so I can seek them out myself...

Traditionally, bedding plants are those plants used to provide color in summer garden beds. Although some writers include any herbaceous plant started under controlled environmental conditions and sold for outdoor use, embracing a number of fruit and vegetable crops, in this book ornamental bedding plants include tender herbaceous ornamental annuals and biennials only. As with other titles in this series, the aim of this book is to present scientific principles that underlie production practices. The author discusses traditional and plug methods of production, the latter having revolutionized mass-market production during the last decade. The principles of propagation and growing on, including the role of nutrition and media, temperature, light, supplemental carbon dioxide and growth regulators, are described. Aspects of postproduction, diseases and pests, and mechanization, are also considered. There is also an appendix providing production guidelines for 15 major bedding plant species, including begonia, impatiens, petunia, marigolds and pansies. Written by one of America's foremost horticultural scientists and writers, the book is invaluable for plant producers or growers, as well as for students of ornamental or amenity horticulture.

A guidebook that really works!.......2002-05-19

I've read more than my share of how-to-get-organized books, but this is the one that works! Emilie Barnes is such a pleasure to read, her sincerity shines through, and her ideas, if you actually follow them, really work. Not everything will necessarily work for every reader, but the basics for an organized home and life are all here. Other books of this type all seem to insist that a reader must do it their way, but Emilie shows how to do it your own way. Reading her book is, as she says, like conferring with a wise friend. It's a treat!

Emilie Barnes is an easy author to read, with some very creative ideas on how to be organized. Many of the ideas seem a little exessive and silly, but with a little more creativity they can be modified to one's life!

This book should be given at every bridal shower... Emilie has done a WONDERFUL job of teaching us how to change our homes to be more organized, productive, relaxed, enjoyable and GODLY! She shows step by step how to get organized, without becoming overwhelmed. Emilie's Christian testimony is an inspiration to any woman... One online review called her "born organized" and that may be true, but that makes her a wonderful authority in showing us the way to total rest! :)

Not useful for a "messie".......2000-01-17

If you are familiar with the usual "messie" terms, I would say Ms. Barnes is "born organized". She talks about how she helped her mother from early on keeping up the house and a business. She apparently was never at a "total mess". If you are completely disorganized and don't know where to start, this book probably will not help you. There are some sections on closets and the kitchen that give you directions on organization.

Photographs of Samuel Beckett by John Haynes, one of the leading theater photographers in the field, appear here with three new essays by Beckett's biographer and friend, James Knowlson. Haynes' photographs include previously unpublished studies of Beckett in addition to productions and rehearsals. Knowlson's first essay combines a verbal portrait of Beckett with a personal memoir of the writer. The second essay considers the influence of paintings on his theatrical imagery while the third offers a detailed account of Beckett's work as a director of his own plays. James Knowlson was the original founder of the Beckett archive (now the International Beckett Foundation) at the University of Reading, which also houses the Beckett Collection, now the world's largest collection of Beckett resources. Knowlson's previous publications include Frescoes of the Skull: The Later Prose and Drama of Samuel Beckett (Grove, 1980) and the highly praised biography Damned to Fame: The Life of Samuel Beckett (Simon & Schuster, 1999). John Haynes was privileged to work alongside Beckett as photographer in residence at the Royal Court Theatre in the 1970s, when Beckett was directing his plays. Haynes continues to work with the leading directors and actors of British contemporary theatre.

John Minihan's collection of photographs of the Irish playwright Samuel Beckett are truly amazing. The cover photograph of Beckett seated in a Paris cafe in 1985 is truly one of the great portraits of the 20th Century.

This books confirms--as if any of you were doubters--that in addition to his writings, Samuel B. was one of the coolest LOOKING human beings who has ever graced our environs. From the beauty of his "eagle" haircut to the absolutely perfect crease in his trousers, this book captures it ALL. He hangs out, drinks coffee, has a smoke, similar to mortals you'n'me. Best bet: look at the pictures in this book while listening to the old Columbia recording of Bert Lahr and E.G. Marshall doing "Waiting For . . .". I'll tell ya, like a Chesterfield, it satisfies!
