I bought the workbook in conjunction with The Options Course and it helped my trading so much! The workbook lets you practice the information you're learning in the course book with quizzes and summaries. I definately recommend that you buy the workbook as well as The Options Course book.

Over rated ..........2000-08-26

This book contains 90 pages of (mostly) multiple choice questions with the answers at the back of the book. It is the type of material that routinely follows a chapter in any textbook. Though the questions are to the point, my objection is that it is published as a separate book at the price of many complete works. Properly published, these questions would not add 90 pages to the original text which was itself under 300 pages. The questions did not help me understand the material, only tested my recollection. I feel that publishing this material as a workbook is only a marketing ploy and cheapens the product.

I have bought this book and the Options Course Book. This book is designed to directly relate to the hardback book (Options Course Book) and has no application to be read on its own.

The author has used the workbook to test your knowledge of the hard back book. The work book pulls the salient points out so that you ensure you got what you need.

The tests are accompanied by the answers at the back of the book. I thought it a great idea to combine the two books as I never know if I got it all when I read a book.

This book has no practical use on its own and should have been bought with the Course Book.

Great idea. However, if you are looking for the detail you should buy the Options Course Book.

If you're looking to read and assimilate information about options and then test yourself on the information just acquired - this is the exact wrong book!

This book contains only questions and multiple choice answers. The answers are in the back. The learning method is to take the tests blindly and then see how many you guessed correctly. It is learning in reverse.

I was hoping for an explanation of a term or concept and then a follow up test. There are only tests. As such it may live up to the letter of its title but it fails miserably as a teaching tool. For what it purports to be and for what it delivers it seems ridiculously overpriced.

I used this book in tandem with the OCB to pull the points that I wanted to understand. The author has used the additional book to ensure that each chapter of the OCB is pointed and hits the mark.

Great book.......2007-02-14

If you have done the optionetics course or read the Options Course then you will love this book. It only covers a few chapters on Volatility, which I would have liked there to be more, however, there were a number of chapters on practical ways to trade it. I particularly liked some of the indicators to trade volatility such as bollinger bands and ATR. Overall a good read and a clear, understandable approach to help improve you as an options trader. Its probably worth a second read, as its full of a lot of great information.

This book is the perfect compliment to The Volatility Course by George Fontanills. It uses real case studies and guides you through step-by-step just like the main book. It tests your knowledge learned from the main coursebook. As with any new subject, learning options takes time and this book really helps the time you spend feel more productive.

A Must Book for the Beginning Options Trader.......2004-06-27

As someone who has been trading options for a couple of years, mainly has a hedge against adverse price moves in stocks, I wanted to try my hand at a more aggressive strategy, using options to make money, and possibly become wealthy. I knew that a thorough understanding of volatility was necessary for options trading. I was drawn to this book because I had previously bought the Options Course from George Fontanills and thoroughly enjoyed it.

The Volatility Course has two themes: Understanding volatility and integrating volatility into your options strategies. There isn't a lot of theory to bog the options trader down but good examples to bring home his points. While I may have wanted to see a little more theory for handling the futures market, the book is excellent and would recommend it for the beginning options trader.

Advice for the fearful!.......2001-05-24

This book was terrible, maybe the worst book I have read on investing. It was so basic I felt like I was in pre-school learning how to tie my shoes. It's a book for whimps who are full of fear and are too scared to do anything with their live's. There is even a section warning you not to use drugs. Come on..... Don't waste your money..........

First let me say that I bought the audio tape and not the book. The tape is 3 hours in length so I assume it highlights the most important points of the book. (if there were any).

The book does cover 1 or 2 relavant topics like the importance of compounding interest and begining to invest at a young age. However, if you are like me, I was hoping for something a little "meatier." Oh, it does give you many examples of how X dollars over time will turn to millions. My tip if these type examples interest you: buy a calculator.

The other points covered in the book/tape I considered filler waste. For example the author explains that married people are more likely to get rich. He then goes into many statistics about those that are married. Also covered, Why divorce is not good and some tips on how to avoid it. His premice: Married people live longer. If you live longer you'll have more time to save and become rich.

I could go on with examples like the above mentioned but since time is money I'll save a little of both. My point however is this: If you're looking for REAL ways to increase your assets and you comprehend basic concepts like compound interest and time, this book will bore you with off-topic detail.

When I buy a book on this subject, I hope it will be one that has content that I can learn from and refer back to. This book however, is a once read and a waste of time and money.

My tip for getting rich in america is don't buy this book and save your money. Over time it will be much more valuable than the book. If you must own it though, email me and I'll sell you mine.

I hope this review saves someone the disappointment that I went through.

HI.. I would say most people should run, not walk, to buy this book. It doesn't matter where you are starting from, everyone can benefit from this stuff, and there are a variety of ways to compile wealth that the authors talk about. I found it to be very inspiring and well worth the money. I would recommend it to all my friends, especially those who are befuddled by the markets, because it has simple straightforward advice. good luck to all the savers and investors among us! for socially conscious people, they also tell how to help society (as well as get wealthy.)

The most well rounded financial advice book I've read so far.......2000-08-18

As the name states, this book explains how it is possible to build wealth AND achieve a satisfying life by following a few simple rules. There are no off-the-wall advice or get-rich-quick schemes offered here, unlike the material from some other "financial gurus". All of the principles presented in this book are logically sound and time-proven, but I hesitate to say "common-sense" because so few people actually practice them in reality.

For example, I think we've all heard about the power of compounding--and how it can turn a modest savings into a significant nest egg over time. However, very few people take this to heart and apply it to their daily money management decisions, because they feel it requires too much work or they feel helpless in controlling their expenses. What the authors do is demonstrate, by using specific examples and crunching the numbers, that even minor expenditures today can have significant economic impact down the road. They show that by making certain choices early on in one's life, nearly ANYONE can build a fortune in America. It truly doesn't require a genius or lots of luck to become rich today. Moreover, the authors point out that one doesn't have to sacrifice all of life's pleasures or live like a pauper in order to achieve financial security. All it takes is a little prudent savings and investing. If you believe in the opportunity to achieve wealth in this country, but have trouble getting motivated and taking action, this book is for you.

The chapter on investing is excellent. The authors explain how trying to beat the market is futile, and "safe" returns can be riddled with risk over the long haul (due to inflation). If you believe that you are just as capable of managing your investments as paid experts, you'll like this book.

Most people aren't aware of the return on education; I know I went to college just because it was the thing to do (and my parents wouldn't have it any other way ;) This book describes how increasing one's education level can substantially affect (negatively and positively) one's earnings. It's very interesting reading.

What this book also emphasizes, that most other financial advice books neglect to mention, is that living a good lifestyle is not only satisfying but also FINANCIALLY rewarding. Practicing good ethics enables a person to feel good about him/herself (leading to a more productive life), and making healthy lifestyle choices extends your life (thereby allowing the power of compounding to work longer). If you want validation that doing the right thing and living responsibly is rewarding emotionally AND financially, then read this book.

The only point that I have a minor quibble with is: getting married is good for wealth building. I understand what the authors are trying to say, which (I think) is: being in a committed relationship and having a contributing partner can accelerate the wealth building process. However, I don't believe that the actual marriage contract is necessary for achieving wealth. While marriage may help some couples stay together, it can also provide a false sense of security for others (causing them to stop working as hard on maintaining the relationship). Some people choose not to get married because they have no desire to produce offspring, others do it to avoid the "marriage tax penalty". I think unmarried, committed couples are just as likely to build significant wealth (and live fulfilling lives) as married couples. Anyway, I'm being technical here, and what's important is that the authors do get their point across.

I really liked this book, and I am practicing all the principles described in it. I find my peace of mind higher than ever, knowing that I'm well on the path towards a secure future.

Great Buy (for me).......2000-07-22

I first bought the book, then got the audio book. Wow! Many books focus on just $. Some focus on love. Others focus on only education, while some focus on health. This book covers it all. After all, what is $$ without love, and health. If you're looking for a "feel good" book which you can buy and just throw on the shelf, then DON'T buy this book. If you're looking for an action oriented set of doable wisdom nuggets, buy it. I'm a lazy reader, so I really liked the audio book better. I also recommend Dave Ramsey's More Than Enough; Millionaire Next Door; Multiple Streams of income.

Best Buy for self-taught sugarcrafters.......2003-06-18

Start with Book 1: Beginners, to get the foundation of sugarcraft skills then move onto this one, the advanced version with many more expanded techniques. As in Book 1, Book 2 lays out each technique step-by-step, with gorgeous photographs and easy to understand text. These are progressive lessons in sugarcraft, each building on the skills learned in the previous one.
The text is written for an international audience with metric measurements and imperial in parenthesis. There are occasional bumps in the translation for American readers(the reference to a "cake board" is actually a "cake drum" found in British import or specialty baking shops),however, 99% of the math is done for you and I had no trouble doing the little bit of calculating needed. It is good practice for other books on sugarcraft you will no doubt want to buy later that only use metric measurements and international terms.

The designs are unique and very do-able, although patience is a requirement. Practice, practice, practice.I strongly recommend purchasing Book 1:Beginners, as this book is a continuation to advance your skills and not a starting point. Recipes are included with an array of patterns and a glossary of terms. My only complaint with these books is that they aren't spiral-bound to lay flat.

I am so thankful for this book.I was desperatley searching for help. I ordered 3 books. Two were beautiful paperbacks and then this little paper back. I threw it aside because i didnt like the way it looked (small book and printing was small) After reading the 1st 2 and being very disapointed i finally picked up this one, and i was hooked. For once a book that not only offers suggestions but gives you steps to accomplish them. My son is 7 and adopted (at birth)has ADHD, ODD and some fetal alcohol problems. Nothing seemed to work and i was losing all hope of ever having any peace in our home. The hold down method seemed somewhat extreme but i had no luck with making him stay in time out. I decided to do exactly what the author suggested and i was determined to take it as far as i needed. I had to hold him for a solid 2 1/2 hours the first time. He tryed biting, cursing, spitting and anythng else he could do to get me angry. He was shocked that nothing he could do seemed to upset me. (on the outside anyway)The rest of the day went well. The next morning i was praying that he wouldn't hit anyone again because i was so sore i wasn't certain i could hold him down. Well, he did and i had to hold him again. This time i only had to do so for 1 hour and 10 minutes, the next day 20 minutes and that was 6 weeks ago. I havent had to do it again until yesterday, and that one was an amazing 5 minutes. He has been more loving toward me than i could ever imagine. He wants to be with me and it is enjoyable. The book suggests that you use this with only 1 or 2 of the biggest issues. Ours was hitting anyone he walked by. This is to establish authority in the home. Children with ODD tend to put themslves on the same level as adults. Children need to be secure knowing that they have boundries. I used to let him get away with things because i couldn't find away to keep him from it. I walked on eggshells to keep any confrontation from happening. I am certain now that he wasn't secure and was crying out for me to set boundries for him. My have big hopes for my son. He is the next generation and i cannot allow him to continue down that road of destruction. It may seem extreme to some but ODD is not just being hard to get along with. It's the toughest thing i have ever dealt with. I have 3 married children, have fostered 52 and adopted 3. ODD is real and one of the hardest types to deal with. You are not sterotyping your child but doing something for him that will enable him to get along in the real world. God doesn't let his children get away with things. The Bible says that the Lord disciplines those he loves. It isn't alway plesant but it is always for our best. I ordered another for my sons teacher. Of course there are things she can't do but many others she can and we can work together.

Worth owning.......2006-09-08

I happened upon this book at the library when I was desperately trying to deal with my 2 yr-old's tantrams, hitting, unsocial behavior. I think it is fabulous. As many others have said here, the authors offer great techniques and the couple of pages of "brain dead phrases" appear to be incredibly useful for now and for the future. I found many of the ideas in here so important that I want to own the book so I can refer to it any time. I also have a feeling those "brain dead" phrases are going to be a life-saver as my daughter grows up. Definitely get this book if you need some great ideas to help refocus your parenting skills, time, effort and want to change your child's anti-social frustrating behavior.

Solid Practical Advice.......2006-05-16

Our 8YO was recently diagnosed with PDD (a form of autism) and his psychologist recommended this book. I'm usually skeptical about these things, so I was a little hesitant. But I'm happy to say that the advice in this book was very good. I like the idea of parents having the tools to cope with difficult children while not having to resort to physical punishment or yelling. It's all about keeping your cool and being 1-step ahead of your difficult child (who as in our case, and in probably most cases, is highly intelligent and knows exactly how to press buttons). The best thing we could do for our children (especially the difficult ones) is teach them responisibility and consequences for their actions....either that, or they'll learn it the hard way in the "real world". I've already recommended this book to friends and will continue to do so.

As a child psychologist who deals with the most difficult of children I save "Try and Make Me" when all else has failed. Parents who are at the end of their rope will find unique ideas in this book. It is best used with the help of a child psychologist who can help you put the techniques into action effectively and guide you along the way. If you have to use this book, you probably could use a professional to help you.

This book is the best I've seen on handling crazy-making kids. My son certainly qualifies as one of those. I've found the Hold Down technique to be really helpful.
