Worse than useless.......2003-10-16

We wasted a precious day of our vacation searching for a music center listed in this book that has been closed for two years. The guide implies that activities are within walking distances when they're not. I felt that I had to confirm every piece of information I read in this book. Hotel listings were sparse and inaccurate. I was very disappointed.

Best information in a easy to read format.......2003-06-20

Stop the presses. I used the new guide this year and was disappointed, not nearly as good as in the past. I tried posting a review but it did not make it to print. There are major mistakes in the book of venues that have been closed for over a year. Better to stick with another guide.

Restaurant info must also have been based on visits in the past as many of the recommended places offered poor service and high prices. The book just does not live up to what it used to be.

Best information in a easy to read format.......2003-06-20

I will be taking my 6th vacation to Ireland this summer. I have used Birnbaum, Rough Guide, and Fodors. None come close to Frommers in giving me the information I most need. All the great places to see are easily found and marked. The hotels are truly gems in many price ranges and the dining recommendations are only second the the famous Egon Ronay Jameson Guide which unfortunately went out of print in 1997.

So if you like staying in hotels instead of youth hostels and b&bs,like eating really great food and don't want to follow the average tourist, go with this guide. Don't get me wrong you don't have to spend a fortune but the recommendations cater to the 2-4 star crowd. Works great for us.

The first review above is right on the money. And yes don't buy this is you are on a tour group and need something to read on the bus or want a lot of pictures of the places you might visit.

Can't Go Without It!.......2003-03-15

I am a huge Frommer's fan and will purchase the newest Ireland book before every trip there. I'm on my 6th trip and my 5th Frommer's Ireland book.

I love how the books are set up with nearly everything included; how to get there and get around, what you need to travel to Ireland, the money, top attractions, accommodations, shopping, night life, places to eat and (of course) to drink. There's even a new chapter dedicated to all things outdoors. Included for the attractions are accurate phone numbers, dates and hours places are open, up to date pricing and web sites.
Places to eat and stay are divided by price into categories; Very Expensive, Expensive, Moderate and Inexpensive.

For each major town, Frommer's includes basic facts (ie. tourist office location or where's the nearest pharmacy), sights to see, how to get around and a map. The lesser towns also have a list for interesting places to see, things to do, places to stay but usually no map.

The book starts with a `Best Of` list then moves on to all that you need to know to plan your trip. Use this list Best Of list to help you plan your trip, especially if you only have a limited time in the Emerald Isle.
New and improved are symbols that highlight Special Finds, Fun Facts, Especially for Kids, Overrated Places, Insider Tips and Great Values which are sprinkled throughout the book.
Also new is their star system. Very Expensive and Expensive places are listed from 1 to 3 stars, the other categories are 0 to 2 stars while attractions and regions get 0 to 3 stars. The lowest rating is still considered "recommended" so you just can't lose.

The next chapters go through Ireland county by county. The book concludes with Northern Ireland and all the same detailed information is listed for them. The appendix explores Ireland's history through modern times and it's language.

If you want to spend less money (and who doesn't these days?) or you're on a tight budget then get "Frommer's Ireland From $60 A Day, 19th edition". It has all the same information but with a bigger, better selection of less expensive places to eat and stay. It also let's you know where it would be worth your while to splash out if you'd like.

I really like the size of this Frommer's book, some other Name Guides I've tried to read are too small and want to flip closed all the time. Others have a lots of information but it's so packed onto small pages with no breaks or lists it's too hard to absorb or remember what you read about. Frommer's are just about right in my eyes. There are only about 8 color photos and these are at the beginning of the book. Do not buy this book for photos because you will be sorely disappointed. However, the amount of information contained within will keep this guide way up on the top of your list when planning or just dreaming your trip to Ireland.

Frommer's Ireland 2003.......2003-02-03

This book is great. I plan to drive Ireland on my next trip and this book offered the best tip of all the books I have read. The website for AA of Ireland (ww.aaroadwatch.ie) is a goldmine. I can now get directions, distances, and times to use to plan my drive.

This book was also great with it's ratings of overrated sites, and recommended stops.

I have bought many guide books, but this one has jumped to the top of my list. I will not be leaving home without it.

some question about the book.......2007-06-10

This book covers difference area of fundamental analysis... but I find the book not covering cash flow a whole lot... it says that depreciation is a real cost... but i wonder why if it is a business that bought its own office? Then it has got a lot of depreciation but it is not real cost. the real effect is that the company constantly needs to spend on capital expenditure... and particularly, the capital expenditure that will go down in value. real estate goes up in value, for example. but if you have to keep on buying computers, they probably go down to 1/3 of its value in 5 years... so they are different.

I loved this book. It was a warm, sensitive, and informative story about a man and his dogs. It was the type of book that would make an excellent Christmas gift for some one who has had or who once loved a dog. It was a book that made you both laugh and cry. In the end you are happy you read it.

Not just for quilters; .......2007-05-15

For anyone who works with "other people's" colors (that is, NOT painters and people who make their own colors). The book can help move people from a quilt made with 5 or 10 "matching" colors purchased at JoAnne's to quilts made from 100 or more; IMO, those quilts are MUCH livelier and sparkly. I found the computer-adjusted pictures of quilts made from "exact match" vs "100+" fabrics helpful.

Color Confidence helped explain to my mind why I find so much polymer clay work slightly flat; in most cases, there are <10 colors in a p.c. cane and none of the gentle variety and shading that one finds in the kind of quilts I really like. Same is true for intarsia and Fair Isle knitting.

If you're already working with > 50 fabrics per artwork, you're probably doing this automatically, in which case the book might offer a new way to organize your color thinking. If you're in the "5-10 fabrics is enough" club and want to get out, or if you believe that decorator or SIL who said, "if you mix more than four patterns in a room, it will look too busy", the book offers a safely structured way to stretch your creativity.

Kaffe Fassett must be doing something similar, but I can't recall him ever discussing his process in print. Karen K. Stone writes about her own color-selection process in her book, but it might not be quite as accessible as the method Jinny presents.

Four stars not five because I don't need to own it; read, grasp the concept, and go. OTOH, if you didn't spontaneously knit your own Fassett knock-off from your own stash, it might be a book you turn to often to keep the color muscles loose and flexible.

This is a different way to look at colour, and has led me to be more adventurous than before. Jinny explains in clear detail how to apply her colour technique. I now look at fabric in an entirely different light.

Excellent book on color theory, with lots of illustrations, exercises -- really stretches your mind and makes you see "outside the box".

Is He Straight ?.......2007-07-26

Having read many books on the topic of straight spouses, I highly recommend this book. It would be especially helpful for someone in the early stages of dealing with this issue. The first book I read four years ago that helped me this much is Grevor's My Husband Is Gay. Kaye's book does not claim to be scientific, but is packed with EXPERIENCES compiled from her own doomed marriage and thousands who have traveled the same road. Also read Kaye's Doomed Grooms. I did not think Kaye needed to go into as much detail as she did about her own former sexual experiences, and she overstated and oversimplified some things, AND she needs to hire an editor to take out the typos. But in spite of those drawbacks, the book is EXTREMELY helpful for any straight spouse who is in the confusing questioning stage. I'd buy two--one to keep referring to, and one to give to a friend.

I found the book predicable and predispose at best. i was given to book becasue I asked a gay associate, a lesbaian for the book. I'm a heterosexual man and a reader of books from A to Z..primarily to understand what is on the minds of authors, more so than the message of personal condemnation as a receipe to enlighten the masses as demonstrated within the contents of this book. My personal comment as such is this, if you as a partner(heterosexual) have to wonder or suspect in regards to your financee(male or female) or NOW HUSBAND or WIFE, you either don't get married ..or if are married, confront your husband or wife in regards to a truth that is discovered, and then decide as a married couple by law what is best for the marriage with all honesty. There are countless arranged marriages, which stay together for whatever reason, either there is a gay married partner, male or female, or the fact, husbands and wives have fallen out of love with their spouses and stay together for the children or financial stake at hand, where is the secret with this knowledge?> Good, bad or indifferent. However, I do believe in truth in regards to any situation, not to void the truth, also let's remember, one person truth comes at times which is not convenient for others involved, which is the consequence of it all. Why would a person lie or surpress their deepest emotion and passion for the same-sex attraction?(gay or bi-sexual) I will tell you why; This anglo-neo-traditionalism society breeding in the United States, which opposes moderernism, liberlism, radicalism, causing people in america to surpress who they are, the freedom to be without being labeled as ostentatious, these same people still want a piece of the pie as like anyone else as americans in the united states , (a home, property, etc.,) and to be sucessful tax paying citizens. This society of the america which holds all these trues evident, freedom for all and equal justice under the law doesn't hold a ring of truth. So connect the dots as related to the content of this book . All in All, I gave the book (2) stars because IMPO, it's predispose writing, when reading the book you know what the author is going to say as you approach the next page in the book. Where is the flip side of the coin within the pages of this book? Where is the understanding and underline why a situation as describe is taking place in so many marriages in america?.. as opposed to husbands labled as a monster for loving his wife, who haven't quite understoond himshelf because of the infraction of neo-traditionalism society imposed.. (2) stars, satisfied reading, but poor content descriptive format, non-formidable conclusion.

I am a gay married man who is at the crossroads of his life. After 14 years of living with a woman who is loving, kind, and understanding, I have decided to make the most difficult decision in my life to date--namely, be honest with her. After reading the book "Straight Wives, Shattered Lives," by Bonnie Kaye,I realize that the longer I withhold this truth from her, the more damage I am doing to her life. When I read some of the stories of these women in the book, I was faced with the reality of what I am doing to my own wife. I have fought these feelings of male attractions for many years. I wanted to be the husband my wife needs. I never meant to hurt her. I take my marriage vows very seriously. I married her because I was in love with her, and I still love her so much. But now I realize that I can never love her in the way she deserves to be loved--totally and completely. I know this because I have read the book "Forbidden Love With a Married Man: Email Diaries" by Dennis Schleicher. In his story, I saw the kind of relationship that I too desire with someone of the same sex. Between these two books, I realized I had to be honest with myself before I could be honest with my wife. I know my life will never be the same after I reveal this news, but I don't want to keep hiding behind a lie. Wish me luck.
