For one thing, this book is all aboyt dog breeds.(Plus a little history) It has EVERY SINGLE DOG BREED IN THE WORLD. No exagerations. It has a few stats before each detail about the dog, such as class, height, weight, and such.
For seconds, this book is BIG. That's even underestimating. This book is HUGE, GIGANTIC, HUMONGOUS! It has over 800 pages! And I thought the DOG BIBLE was big...
Trust me. I've been studying dogs for 4 years now and haven't found a dog book so impressive with ABSOLUTLY ALL the dog breeds. So, if you want to find out if SAINT BERNARDS are good watchdogs, what dog comes from NEW GUINEA, what breed of dog isn't capable of barking or just want to find an exctinct type of dog to put in your mystery novel to make it all the more mysterious, this book HAS IT ALL.

This book is so good. I have a couple of breed books and they can't hold a candle up this book. It is the best book I have ever read. I think that if you want a good research book this is the one. I really enjoyed reading this book. I've read it cover to cover many times! I always use it as a reference to learn something new about dogs. It also helped me to decide which breed of dog I should get (along with some other wonderful books). What an enlightening read! We use this book constantly at our small animal shelter. Good photographs of breeds, and the breed key with each description helps people focus in on breeds they'd like to do further research on, and to drop from their list, the breeds that would not be suitable for their lifestyle. It's great for showing people what kind of personalities are blended together in that adorable mutt they are considering adopting from the shelter. The adoption helpers almost never put this one down while showing the dogs.

Ernie Conover is one of the best(if not the best) writer of books on using the Lathe in the United States. I have all of his work and could recommed any or all for the serious wood turner. The only other writers who would come close to Mr. Conover are two gentleman from Australia. My wood turning library exceeds 24 books, Ernie is the best.

I actually used this book to help me become more informed before I made a lathe purchase.
It gives a great overall overview of many sizes and options.
Quote from the book, "New entry level lathes cost from $500 to $1000 dollars. Also gives positive comments to mini lathes @ $300-$400. That would include bed extension with which you could turn countless spindles. $575 Delta/Jet 12 inch, nice start as well.
Great overall picture of turning, tools, sharpening and accesories. Speaking of pictures what's shown is fine for what's being illustrated.ie; size and content.
Save your money.......2004-03-15
As an advanced woodworker I decided to try my hand at turning so I purchased this book based upon the other reviews. The book is written in a confusing, disjointed, and rather condescending manner. Conover seems to want to impress with his "expertise" at the expense of clearly disseminating information.
Additionally, photos are extremely small, poorly cropped, and show no worthwhile detail. He states that a minimum entry level lathe will cost you over $1,000. That must be Canadian dollars since he recommends equipment as if he's employed by the Canadian Department of Commerce. There are numerous run-on sentences in the book that will leave you scratching you head and asking "what the hell is this guy talking about?"
If you want to get started in turning, this is not your book.

Great Read about a Great Designer.......2002-07-09
This is a well-written biography about one of the leading industrial designers of the 20th century. Anyone who has ever marvelled at the simple elegance of the 'round' thermostat has Henry Dreyfuss to thank, and this book tells much of his story.

Book Description
To celebrate Peter's birthday, Frederick Warne is publishing new editions of all 23 of Potter's original tales, which take the very first printings of Potter's works as their guide. The aim of these editions is to be as close as possible to Beatrix Potter's intentions while benefiting from modern printing and design techniques.
The colors and details of the watercolors in the volumes are reproduced more accurately than ever before, and it has now been possible to disguise damage that has affected the artwork over the years. Most notably, The Tale of Peter Rabbit restores six of Potter's original illustrations. Four were sacrificed in 1903 to make space for illustrated endpapers, and two have never been used before. Of course, Beatrix Potter created many memorable children's characters, including Benjamin Bunny, Tom Kitten, Jemima Puddle-duck and Jeremy Fisher. But whatever the tale, both children and adults alike can be delighted by the artistry in Potter's illustrations, while they also enjoy a very good read. Because they have always been completely true to a child's experience, Potter's 23 books continue to endure.

These books are are so beautifully written and create an imaginative world for your child. I have wonderful memories of these tales from my childhood and love introducing them to my children. They are timeless!

It would be almost impossible to pick a favorite of the Beatrix Potter books, but if I had to, this would be it. The story and the artwork combine to make a perfect children's (or adult's)book.
A classic for slightly older children.......2000-10-13
This is my favorite of the Beatrix Potter books, and I probably read all of them as a child. It's ideal for a slightly older child. A very sweet story of a tailor, his cat, and a group of mice who save his business when he is too ill to work.
