Jay Fenster knows all there is to know for the visitor to Las Vegas. Having his book was like having the best possible tour guide right by my side.

I love Mr. Fenster's writing style, and the organization of the book, his grouping of attractions based on the visitor's length of stay. As a non-gambler, I was especially interested in what else we could do. Following Fenster's recommendations, we requested a high room with a street view (gorgeous at night!), had a buffet at the Rio (over 300 dishes), saw Cirque du Soliel `Mystere', and ventured off the strip to the Green Valley Ranch, Lake Las Vegas, and Red Rock Canyon Conservation area. We had two fabulous Thai dinners at Lotus of Siam. I can honestly say Jay Fenster's book really took our Las Vegas vacation to the next level.

Las Vegas Guide.......2000-07-13

This was a comprehensive look into Las Vegas for the average traveler. This book was very good at pointing out various hotspots and steering the reader clear of tourist traps. The one fault of this publication was that it contains no pictures of the area and only text and a few maps. Pictures would have enhanced the purpose of the travel guide by giving the reader visual cues to the Las Vegas when actually in the city.

Good Enough For Me.......2003-09-04

People tend to look at "perfectionists" with admiration. After all, perfectionists try with all their might to do everything correctly in the most efficient way. Are we wrong to admire them? Shouldn't we try to emulate them?

If you are a perfectionist, you know that the desire to be perfect becomes an exercise in futility; you're never good enough no matter what you do. You can work harder, longer, smarter - it's just not enough. Dr. Basco's book first helps you determine if you actually are a perfectionist. After taking the self-assessment, I discovered I was a full-fledged perfectionist. And in my case, it was impacting my life in a negative way.

Part of the problem with perfectionists goes back to their early beliefs and expectations. Basco shows how these early thoughts influence us to become perfectionists. She also shows how uncontrolled perfectionism can destroy relationships at every level. Uncontrolled, it can ruin lives.

That's why this book is so valuable. The author shows perfectionists how to begin the road to recovery, and how to stay on it. If perfectionism is influencing your life and those around you in a negative or hurtful way, you must read this book. I'm thankful I found it. It has made a huge difference.

It Takes One to Know One--and That's Not Necessarily Bad!.......2002-03-25

The implied main purpose of "Never Good Enough," by Monica Basco-Ramirez, is about developing learning strategies through self-evaluation to "free yourself from the chains of perfectionism." Actually, this book is more a treatment of obsessive-compulsive behavior. The tone is sincere, as are the general instructions, but who but a perfectionist could write a book about perfectionism? Right away the implication is that being a perfectionist is "bad." So it may be, up to a point. But it shouldn't take 273 pages for the reader to get it. The salient points are made in the first 28 pages (preface and introduction). While I respect Dr. Ramirez's message that some people can expect too much from themselves and others, I must disagree with the "Perfectionist Self-Assessment" on pages 30-31. There are 30 statements the reader is to rate on a scale of 0 to 4 on such life aspects as "having an eye for details that others miss," high self-expectations, grooming, making mistakes, personal organization and others. The higher the score, the more of a perfectionist we are labeled--and thus the more "wrong" we are. And I disagree with the back cover, where one doctor who reviewed the book said perfectionism is a "deadly behavior." That's going overboard, don't you think?

Personally, all of the aspects on the self-assessment are important to me. I apologize if it's not helpful. But I care about how I look. I care about how others perceive me. I need to be organized and detail-oriented. In today's competitive marketplace, it is usually the "perfectionist" who gets the job, not the one who with a half-hearted approach. The message here from Dr. Ramirez is that the "3's" and "4's" on the importance scale are meant to count against us, that we need "help"(!) For these reasons, this book is only suited for someone extremely obsessed to a point ad ridiculum. And in that case, they would think the whole book is mistake as a perceived threat to their way of life. Only a small minority of citizens could possibly benefit, therefore, but I think the author was expecting a broader readership, and therefore more money. I don't see the book taking off. The central message is that it is wrong to expect rewards, to expect recognition, to receive praise from others. It is not a matter of flattering one's vanity. It's about effort in an extremely competitive world, where mistakes are not tolerated. I sense the author's reproach at trying to be the absolute best at anything in life, and her indirectly labeling effort as a character defect. Sometimes we NEED to be a perfectionist. Sure, the author is a also a doctor. She doesn't have to try as hard, because financially she's already set. But most things in life come down to income level, and when you're hovering at the poverty level the only way up is to go out of your way to ensure details are attended to. If that makes me a perfectionist, so be it. Perhaps one day it will pay off.

The caption boxes scattered throughout the pages contain exact repetitions of passages found in the main text that serve only as filler. As a result, between that and the duplicate self-assessment pages, this book could have easily been reduced to half the total number of pages. The heart of the author's message is: "Don't overdo it." Okay, okay, I got it. But I knew that already. You made your point.

I never thought I was a perfectionist.......2002-03-05

A psycologist told me that I was a perfectionist and I was initially horrified! I wasn't neat and tidy or obsessed with tidiness. How ignorant I was! I now know that I am an inwardly focused perfectionist who has a problem with making mistakes, confidence and a lot of self doubt. This book is brilliant. I recommend it to anyone. It has helped me no end.

I have struggled to get a handle on my perfectionism all my life. Dr. Ramirez's explanation of the idea that there are different types of perfectionism, and that people can be perfectionists in some areas but not others, really made sense to me. I have a much better understanding of myself and my relationships. The book has made a huge difference in my life.

I was practically in tears when I read the first part of this book! Many people don't understand the real definition (and CONSEQUENCES!) of perfectionism, but this book was GREAT! Not only did it do an exceptional job describing the signs and characteristics, in went in depth into related disorders. This is a must read for almost everyone! The two things I was disapointed about was that it didn't mention any relation or overlap of ADD with perfectionism and it hardly ever (if ever!) talked about teenagers. I think the author underestimated the vast amount of teenagers who have to deal with this in combination with depression and eating disorders, not to mention obsessesive complusive disorders. Over all it was an incredible resource though!

GOOD voice ,BAD writing........2005-12-28

Charlotte Church can sing. what she Can't do is write. in fact I'm not all that sure she wrote all of this book herself. I think its more then likely that she had a ghost writer to help her. this book does give some good info about charlottes life and early career, but there is really WAY to much about her family. she also says that she read wuthering heights by Jane Austen. right. bottom line: get her CDs not her book. our get this book from the library like I did.

It's cute but the publishers erred.......2005-06-11

I bought this book recently at the Dollar Tree for $1 because I was curious. I read it and thought it was cute. BUT, that having been said, I believe the publishers really erred in how they originally released this book; they took it FAR too seriously for a "biography" purportedly written by a 15-year-old!

First of all, the book as released was too expensive. The audience to which it should have been geared was pre-teen girls, unlikely to pay $22.95 for a (thin) hardcover book; it should have been released directly to paperback. Secondly, since the book was written in a chatty diary format, it would have been appropriate and more entertaining to have had portions of it in Charlotte's own handwriting (assuming it's not too dreadful), and other portions done like a scrapbook, particularly the tales of her travels.

Given how Charlotte's life has changed since she wrote it, this book is also a nostalgic read. The "angelic" little girl with the lovely clear soprano voice seems to be long gone at this point, replaced by a "pop tart" who appears to want to be in the mold of a Britney Spears or a Christina Aguilara.

Music does flow in her blood.......2004-03-25

After reading this book, you'll know what music is to Charlotte; it's in her. I thought the book was well written. I don't know why some people seem to be passionately against her. One reviewer says Charlotte doesn't write about her music, but that's not true. Most of this book IS about her music! As a matter of fact, I bought "Voice of an Angel" after reading this book. I only wish she showed her Welshness more in the book.

Well Written And Enjoyable To Read.......2003-09-08

I too am a classical singer, and I must admit that Church might not be as wonderful as the World has made her to be. I do also have to say that I very much enjoy listening to her music and I think she has a lot of potential. Those who give her such low reviews, in my opinion, are jealous and unfair to Church.

As for the book? I thought it was very well written and I thoroughly enjoyed every chapter! I'm 15 and it kept my attention through the whole book. I found her life to be not that of a rich and famous singer/star, but that of a regular teenage girl. Sure, she's got about a million times more than most regular people will ever have, but she lives in a semi-regual way compared to other stars. It tells a lot of interesting facts about how she got started, her family, her home and travels.

In all, I have to say that this was very entertaining. I would recomend this book to those of you who are not jealous of this teenage star and for those of you who like to read about famous people.

Wow, no talent and no brains either!.......2003-01-23

I'm sorry, but this is ridiculous. Can someone please tell me why so much hype concenring this "child prodigy"? Yes, at 12 years old she was good, however not as amazing as America percieved her to be. Now, years later she's gotten worse, and still everyone fusses about her! and now the next thing i see, we have to read about her life so far? please! she seems very shallow according to this book, to tell you the truth, she doesn't seem interesting enough or have enough depth to her to write a book. she just seems like a one-dimensional money-making machine that once showed potential and now is just something to make money off of. I'm sorry if this is cruel, but that's the price publishers risk when releasing nonsense like this.

EXPENSIVE and LACKING!.......2006-11-10

This book is lacking some definitive bidding strategies (just read chapter 3) and is VERY expensive. I highly suggest other books on tax liens like Profit by Investing by Loftis (ISBN: 0793195179) or The Beginner's Guide to Real Estate Tax Lien and Tax Deed Auctions by Sausa (ISBN: 0978834607).

Both are more comprehensive and are a lot cheaper!

I bought the two volume set and after reading through and doing some research took advantage of the free one hour consultation. That and the books were really all I needed!
Over the past few months activity has been brisk in Texas. .. Like the author mentioned to me several months ago, if you find solid properties investors will come. She was right. I had very little money to start. I now have three solid liquid investors that are willing to source money for me. There is still a lot for me to learn but, I just want to thank the author for writing these books and for being there for me in the very beginning of my tax deed career. I have began to build a good list of reference contacts in the real estate industry and am beginning to succeed beyond my wildest dreams. Not only did I get the info I needed in these books but a grounding in Real Estate terms and many sample forms some of which i have put to good use. The books are worth evey penny if you put them to use and I did, big time!

I bought both volumes of this book and found they provided everything I needed to get started. Although it took a while to get my free manual, it was not the reason I bought the books. My free manual however did arrive freshly updated and I have actually bought some liens and a Building lot for $420! It really works if you take the time to learn. Its set out step by step and the forms, annotations etc were very helpful. And, I got a free one hour consultation!

More overpriced and useless information.......2004-12-14

Volume two continues the stream of general information available for free on the internet by restating the information in volume 1 and adding little new of interest or real worth. The offer of a booklet with information specific to your state has not been honored even though I sent my $3.00 check in almost two months ago. E-mail responses have been vague and the request to return my check has been in vain. Save your money and don't order this book.

Don't waste your money on this one..........2004-08-20

There are about 10 valuable pages in this book, and the remainder is all fluff. I bought the second volume because I figured the author must've put all the substantive material in volume 2 since it wasn't in volume 1. I was wrong!!! I was also interested in the free coaching that's available if you purchase both volumes, and that hasn't materialized either. I submitted copies of my receipts, as requested, expecting to get an authorization code and further instructions but I've not gotten a response back after about 3 months. I mailed in $3 to get a booklet specific to my state, and although my check was cashed, I have yet to receive that either. I've tried to email Lillian Villanova at her website, and my emails have not gone through. Don't waste your money...she doesn't seem to deliver her promises, and this second volume seems to be mostly a pitch for their mentoring services. If you're looking for some solid information, look elsewhere-- you won't find it here.

Maskell takes a baseball bat to the Accounting Bee Hive with a call to ACTION for Accounting to become an integral part of the transformation of their business.

Concise, with clear steps to creating an improvement plan, the book is meant to start a dialogue among the Accounting community that will inevitably lead to a fundamental shift in how Accountants see their role in the organization. "Traditional Management Accounting is irrelevant at best," is enough to wake up even the stauchest dyed-in-the-Wool Cost Accountants and start them on a path to looking forward in the organization instead of focusing on past results.

Alfred Wright played drums with The Sun Ra Intergalactic Research Arkestra and The Myth Science Arkestra under the name of Alzo Wright. This jazz band played in cities from New York to San Francisco and abroad (London, Paris, Rome). Being in the presence of the Ancient Egyptian and outer space philosopher/musician Sun Ra, Zo was actuated to another level of consciousness. After seven or eight years of intermittent travel, Zo returned to his hometown of Red Bank, New Jersey, where he intensified his wood sculpting and musical study. He taught himself how to play the viola and created two instruments which use viola strings. He refused to play music, supporting his wife and daughter (a product of home schooling) as a substitute teacher and odd job worker. Zo determined to sculpt a thousand pieces of wood as a challenge to his psyche, but ultimately created close to 1200 discrete works — two are permanently in museums — which range from detailed miniatures to the colossal, before he laid down his mallets and chisels a few years ago. Important, though, is that during this period of sculpting he was jotting down each pithy thought which came to him whether it be erudite or humorous, philosophical or witty. After compiling numerous sayings, he classified them into book form. Thence emerged Zo Sez.

What a sad book!.......2004-02-23

I met Mike Jacobs at the Dallas Holocaust Memorial Center and he told me about his experience with the Holocaust. He sold me his book, with his signature on it and it said:

Remember, "Never Again!" with all good wishes. Have Hope, Believe, and Think Positive!

I really do admire Mike Jacob's courage and stregnth that got him through WWII. I encourage you to read this book! That way, when you think YOUR life is bad, you will remember Mike Jacob's triumph over tragedy, and how HE got through it!
