Find another book on Options........2003-12-07

This is definitely not an easy reading book. It's essentially a dry college textbook, drier then most Physics textbooks. I am not too sure why people like this book. It's rated fairly high, which was why I initially bought it, but now I regret it. The book is written by multiple authors, therefore some chapters are better then others. But overall it's difficult to read because in some areas, the descriptions are too terse, in others too detailed to the point of confusing. I've owned this book for almost three years and I've never been able to consistently read through it. I will drop it because it's too frustrating. Then I try again a couple of months later and I drop it again. I essentially gave up and decided to go ahead and read Lawrence McMillan's Option book. His book has a better flow because it's the same author throughout, and he does a pretty good job of explaining the subject. This book is only good for probably a reference book, but not for advancing your techniques of Options trading. I am going to try and sell this book instead of using it as a reference.

A thorough walk through options trading.......2001-03-08

This book is somewhat like 'A Random Walk Down Wallstreet" only applies to option trading, not just Wall Street and goes beyond.To the nit wit that blasted this book, I seriously doubt if he took the time to read it.I also recommend Safety First Investing and Wall Street Money Machine for more option techniques.Good books.

Can't say enough good stuff about this book.......2001-01-16

Wow, amazing, excellent, insufficient superlatives to describe my feelings - this one and Sheldon Nattenberg's Option Volatility and Pricing and you know more than most of the wall street professionals in my opinion. I found it practical and insightful, particularly with respect to the institutional trading strategies and how the trading floors operate.

An Excellent Overview of Options.......2000-07-04

This book presents a highly readable overview of the subject of options and I would recommend it to anyone. I have not been able to find one book on options which is as wide ranging in its scope (i.e., history, pricing, strategy, individual and institutional investors' approaches, how the trading floor operates, how market makers trade, etc.). The authors have struck a good balance between depth of the subject matter and readability. There are more detailed texts available in the area of strategy (McMillan's _Options as a Strategic Investment_) or pricing (Natenberg's _Option Volatility and Pricing_), but I would especially recommend this book to individual investors interested in options. After reading this book they will have a much stronger footing from which to approach the forementioned other books (which are also excellent, by the way).

The previous reviewer's comments should be disregarded as I cannot conceive of anyone writing about this subject matter any more clearly (yes, I have read both of Fontanills' books) -- the authors appear to have put much effort into this book judging by its clarity, and one nitwit's daffy comments should not dissuade you!

Misses the mark for a practical book.......2000-05-30

I was very disappointed by this book. I had attended some free events by the OIC and purchased this book at their encouragement.

It is not easy to follow, does not cover the subject in an easy to understand manner. They try to publish to justify their existance.

Great for Inspiration.......2006-12-30

I have totally enjoyed this book. I had already done some bead embroidery, but this book gave me a lot more to think about and the photos in the projects and gallery sections were very inspirational. While I'm working on a piece, I look at this book to think about new stitches that I haven't done or color combinations and more. I haven't made a lot of the projects, but I use the information from them to build my own pieces. I think this book is a MUST HAVE if you want to create bead embroidered work.

This book is one of the most exciting beading books I have read. Not only does it have beautiful projects with a variety of techniques, but the gallery of pieces made is out of this world. I would recommend it strongly for any serious or even beginning beader. Beading rocks!!!

Very comprehensive - Excellent!.......2006-03-27

I am just beginning with fabric arts and this book was just what I was looking for. I had never done beading on fabric before. This book gave a little history, talked about supplies and showed several basic steps. It had several nice projects to work on as well as several lovely pictures of other artists' work. It also goes into color theory and talk about design which I only skimmed over, but that's just me. Overall, very, very helpful for someone starting out in this area.

This is a must have if you do spirit dolls or any beading at all..The color pictures threwout the book alone make it all worthwhile but the lesson plans are very detialed and easy to follow.Im really really glad I finally bought this book..I only wish I had before now..B.W.

Well-written, organized and illustrated but curiously out-of-date for
a book published in 1999. Very little about low voltage lighting which
must be a rarity in the UK (this is a Brit book). The emphasis is on
"mains" lighting (240v in the UK, 120v in the US) and the
recommended lamp types and wattages are much too intense for
residential projects. Definitely not a DIY book; the author states:
"Before anybody electrocutes him- or herself and reaches for a
lawyer, I say now-leave electricity to a qualified electrician."
Some nice photographs (and some strange ones too) but many of the
night lighted scenes were photographed well before dusk and did not
provide the kind of view that one would experience after dark.

An almost unbelievable character!.......2003-03-04

John has been a friend of mine for many years now, and I've always been amazed at some of the absurd and hilarioius situations that he finds himself in. I'm glad that he finally got a few of them in print.
The reader of these stories may find some of them hard to believe, but if they ever got a chance to meet John in person, they'd soon realize just how true they all are. I know of a great many more that didn't make it into the book for various reasons -subject still alive; litigation; self-incrimination; etc.- that seem much more far fetched that some of the vignettes presented in "Shiva's......"
John is perhaps the warmest, and friendliest person I know, as well as one of the most intellegent, which makes the book even more interesting.
For her part, Ann MacDonald did a fabulous job of collecting and editing John's stories and presenting them in a clear and concise manner. I KNOW that without Ann, John could never have completed this book.

If you're a fan of this seminal blues rock band, this book tells their story and puts all their songs and records on one place. I like it because it gave me a better understanding of the various albums produced of the group. I wanted to collect their body of work, but with so many different albums, I needed something to make my selections. This book is it!

A Lot of Fun.......2002-09-19

Read this book from cover-to-cover in a day. Now that we're getting more perspective on this period, as we get older, the ramifications of this band are pretty astounding. In my mind, the Yardbirds were better than the bands that their three superstars spawned, but I'm not so sure what the ramifiactions of the band was when they were active. Eric Clapton, JImmy Page and Jeff Beck, however, re-shaped rock n' roll.

This book is so detailed, but without a lot of commentary, that it leaves one to draw conclusions about the band to themselves. Well worth a read.

THE 'Bird Watchers Guide.......2002-05-08

For years I dreamed of writing the definitive Yardbirds tome to honor the legendary group behind "For Your Love", "Heart Full of Soul", "Happenings 10 Years Time Ago" and the phenomenal "Shapes of Things". But my hopes were dashed with the appearance of the second printing of this magisterial biography. How hard core is this? Let's examine the evidence: 1) We learn Relf's middle name was Keith; his first name was William 2) We learn future Cheap Trick guitarist Rick Nielsen played organ on "Ha Ha Said the Clown" 3) We have a thorough rundown of the band's gigs from 1963-68 4) We have labels from the tape cartridges of the group's final NY recording sessions 5) We learn Page's revamped Yardbirds lineup was never called "New"; Russo reprints numerous concert ads for the pre-Zep quartet - poster after poster bills the combo as "Yardbirds" or "Yardbirds with/featuring Jimmy Page" 6) We learn what the heck happened to Top Topham after he made way for some guy named Eric Clapton. Granted, the book favors the recollections of drummer Jim McCarty and rhythm guitarist Chris Dreja. You don't suppose it's because they were the only ones (bar Keith Relf) in the band from start to finish, do you? After all the misinformation that has been passed down over the years concerning ownership of the band's name, what records they played on and the behind-the-amps friction that contributed to their early demise, it's refreshing to finally hear the whole story outside the context of a Clapton, Beck or Page bio. Anything anyone would want to know about the Yardbirds, from asthmatic Relf's three-pack a day smoking habit to the band's recipe for lemon butter chicken is in here in greater detail and affection than I could have dreamed possible. The holy grail of Yardbirds information.
